Roman Cucina is a place I have enjoyed going to with the family over the years. This place has great ambiance and the service is consistently on point. Today, opted for takeout. Ordered one of my favorites - the Chicken Parm and the calamari. The chicken parm was executed to perfection again. Delicious breaded chicken with melted cheese and great seasoning, The calamari, however, missed the mark. Aside from the serving size being smaller than before, it lacked flavor, certainly wouldn't be something I'd recommend going forward. You may ask, why 4 stars then? It's warranted because this restaurant typically executes well and has great service and ambiance to boot. I found out about Roman Cucina via an online ad. After reading reviews, I was excited about visiting for the first time. First, no reservations on weekends. We got there thirty minutes after the 5 o'clock opening time so it wasn't yet full, so we were seated immediately. The place was lively and the menu looked promising. The wine and beer list were small, but some decent ones were offered and they have a full bar. Prices were very reasonable and portions were on the larger side and delicious too! So what's not to like? My pet peeve. The portable machine which figures tip on top of tax! When I and another in our party asked to see the itemized bill, the waitress mumbled some lame excuse that they were not "allowed" to go back to those numbers once their grand total is displayed and that tax was "not much" anyhow. Must be something to do with the programming of that infernal electronic holdup device! Stopped by for Mom's birthday dinner with my parents and in-laws! It wasn't super busy yet on a Tuesday night when we arrived around 6 but progressively got more packed as the evening went on. We didn't realize until we were ordering that they do a BOGO half off deal on entrees every Tuesday, as long as everyone orders an entree. As a result we definitely had too much food on the table but it was nice for our party of 7 to try a bunch of different things! I didn't have time to take pictures of it all, but we started with the bruschetta and the sautéed mushrooms. Bruschetta came out hot and great as usual, but the mushrooms were a bit salty. The complementary salads were nice and light and our servers were great at refilling waters and bringing out more free bread throughout the night. For our entrees, we ordered the creamy lemon shrimp pasta with spaghetti, the eggplant parm with fettuccine, the lasagna bolognese, the shrimp spezia, the tortellini bolognese (one of the specials that day), and the dolce e salato & cesarini pizzas. My favorite items of the night were the dolce e salato pizza (the sweet and savory combo was excellent and the crust was light and fluffy) and the shrimp dishes - the shrimp was cooked very well. I'm not a big red sauce person but the bologneses were also pretty good. The long noodles were a little mushy in all the sauce but the tortellini was not bad. Portion sizes were huge so we took three boxes of leftovers home! And one of the ladies at the host stand helped us take some nice group pictures outside the restaurant after our meal. For a solid local red sauce joint that will fill you up and then some, look no further! read more

Ina Garten's fennel and sausage rigatoni is my go to pre marathon dinner- if it's a marathon I'm not traveling for. This isn't exactly a home town marathon because I am not from Dallas but I am currently residing here so I suppose in that aspect, it was a home town marathon since my kitchen is in close proximity. Bestie flew into town to support me along the course but we decided to not make my go to dinner and go out to grab dinner to save time. I selected Roman Cucina. We drove over and had about a 30min wait on a Saturday evening. This provided time for me to quickly study the course and elevation chart before being shown to our table. The dining room was really cute! We had a table for two near the bar and I like that they have several TVs in the restaurant. I ordered the shrimp scampi and bff ordered a sausage lasagna (which he later said mine is better than, I do make a really exceptional meat lasagna with beef + sausage). My shrimp scampi was very yummy! I was eyeing the pesto pasta and I'm glad the server mentioned it was a bit heavier. I could only finish half of my shrimp scampi following the yummy dinner salads that accompanied both of our entrees. I decided to forego alcohol with dinner since we'd had a boozy brunch and I had a glass of prosecco while out holiday shopping so it was time to play the hydration game if I wanted to execute a marathon in the morning. The cannoli I ordered to go, was also quite tasty - I devoured about half of it before bed for a little sweet treat. We had our leftovers days later and they were still yummy. I'd definitely return here in the future. Solid spot for Italian food in Allen! There may be a long wait on weekend nights (we previously tried to go on a Friday evening and it was a crazy long line), but weekdays are a good bet for no crowds (we went on a Monday this time). The ambiance inside is nice, making this a good place for date night or a meal with family / friends. We started out with the calamari fritti for our appetizer, and it was super tasty paired with the calamari sauce. For the main entree, I got their pasta special at the time which was cavatelli with shrimp, mushrooms, and sun-dried tomatoes in a cream sauce. Everything about this pasta was absolutely delightful -- the pasta itself was cooked perfectly and the sauce + everything else worked well together. My fiance got the sausage lasagna and this turned out to be the big miss of the night... It was way too salty and we found it difficult to finish all of it. Fantastico! Came a week ago with family for birthday. The place was packed! We had reservation and got seated within a few minutes. Everyone really liked their food. From the scampi, lasagne, chicken parm, and all. Everyone was pleased. We had apps of cheesy garlic bread and calamari. Both excellent. Salads come with meal and are simple and fresh-with very good house dressing. Service was equally excellent. Especially since the place was packed and we were a group of 7. I had eaten here previously and was very impressed with their pasta Bolognese. So decided to meet a friend for dinner recently and I must say I was very disappointed. I mentioned to my friend that I felt the sauce tasted like a blob of tomato paste. Didn't have the meaty consistency as the last time I had eaten there. My friend had ordered chicken parmesan and agreed with my assessment. Unfortunately we won't be eating there again. Wasn't sure if they were under new management, but we won't be eating here again. I went this past Saturday 5/2 as a new customer with my mother. 1st off the restaurant has a nice interior and a good atmosphere to it. Our server was quite bland and not really interactive with us, which we didn't mind at first. Then as we ordered and got our basic salad that comes with our entree before our food came out, we ate it which had a decent flavor to it. Unfortunately, as my mother was almost done with her salad she found a broken toothpick, which is not only unsanitary but also dangerous if someone were to consume that. Thankfully she caught it, and when she told our server he apologized but didn't seem fazed by it and didn't pay it any mind at all. We were shocked that he just dismissed it and that it seemed that he thought it was a small inconvenience. Previous restaurants we have visited over the past years that may have had something wrong with their order or it was messed up, the staff would be greatly apologetic and offer a compensation for their mistake (which we weren't really expecting compensation or anything of that sort). This establishment did nothing other than apologize twice (almost forcibly and nonchalantly) when we reinstated that dangerous mistake and went on with their day. My mother was in disbelief and called the day after, on Sunday 5/3, and the staff member who answered her dismissed it again and said "that may happen, and we are going to let the kitchen staff know." How are you going to say that that accident may happen and basically dismiss it again, without a care in the world?? He also stated that the reason no manager came up to apologize for their mistake was because "the server said you guys didn't seem upset," what kind of policy is it to where you go based off of how people look and what emotion they're presenting, to determine whether you come to see us and apologize or not??? That statement is pretty ridiculous for ANY establishment to say and go based off of. That situation would be upsetting just for anyone and they should be grateful we didn't cause an uproar or a scene like others may cause if they were in our shoes. When my mother said that it was disappointing and that she's going to leave a bad review for their lack of safety and care for their customers, it was finally when the staff member offered to give a gift card. How pitiful, that you are going to offer a gift card so you don't receive a bad review after not showing any sympathy beforehand? We of course didn't want nor accept the gift card, all we were wanting before calling and during the call was to hear some sort of care, regret, or sympathy for their mistake and dismissal of the safety hazard. 2/10 experience. Their chicken parm spaghetti was decent, but lacked flavor. I was planning to eat there for a while so this is unfortunate and disappointing how this establishment is run and how things ended.
