The food is wonderful. I love going to this place because the owner is so involved. He is so sweet and he waits on his customers. The ambiance is nice and relaxing. The Mangia scallops are delicious. I had that last time. This time I got a margherita pizza which is amazing! I had gastric bypass so I do not eat a whole lot. I am worried the owner thought I didn't love my pizza. That is not the case. I just couldn't fit anymore. Everything from this restaurant is delicious so far. We got 3 cannolis on the house. He personally has our food boxed up for us every time we go. The wine list is extensive. Please give this restaurant a chance! You will not be disappointed. The live music was also very enjoyable. read more

Friday Date Night: Decided on take-out Cioppino but relaxed at the bar, sipping our way into a bottle of Sangiovese. Not really Italian food as much as it's an attempt to blend Mexican and Italian cuisines. The ceviche was overloaded with guacamole and then weirdly drizzled with balsamic glaze. Not a great combo. First time coming here for a dinner party, and i'm not sure how to feel about my experience. Staff was lovely and helpful, especially when dealing with such a big group. We started the night with the limoncello cocktail and it tasted decent. Not sure if I would reorder the drink again personally, but it wasn't a bad way to start the evening. Next we tried the calamari as the appetizer and I have to say I was very disappointed. Our food took a good minute to come out, but I did appreciate that most of the food came out together. I ordered the shrimp alfredo and thought it saved the evening for me. The side salad that I chose to pair with my dish felt very small, but had a great dressing. Overall, I enjoyed my evening, but not sure if I would be choosing this restaurant as my first pick. read more

Took friends to Mangia Bistro during the late afternoon/early evening. We had such a great time. The food is amazing. All of us were impressed with the choices as well as the quality and taste of each dish. Our sweet server did a great job. It was obvious they were understaffed that afternoon but he did his best to cater to all of our requests. He did a great job! Came here for the first time for a girls night. It was affordable and our waiter was super nice. We had stuffed mushrooms Caesar salad, fried calamari and chicken piccata. All the food was fresh and flavorful but not overly greasy as some Italian American food can be. Will definitely come back. read more

I had been wanting some lamb chops but didn't want to drive far. I looked this place up on yelp and gave them a call to ensure that they had lamb chops and they did so I got dressed and we headed to them. Now I must say this place was decorated nicely it wasn't too busy but it's very spacious very. I ordered the rack of lamb and it was actually prepared by the owner himself he seasoned it to perfection and even came to the table to make sure everything was good while we was there we had some wine the owner made sure that this was a night to remember for us. There were four of us and we had no problem getting a table and sitting in the main dinning area, the place is very bright for an Italian restaurant but very nice. As the self-proclaimed leader of the the Hot and New Crew, I came across Mangia Bistro and thought I would get down with some Italian from a new purveyor of pasta. We entered a bit after lunch time. The interior was decorated with wine and wood furnishings. It was nice. We were warmly greeted and offered our pick of tables. There were only 2 other parties there but I consider that to be part of the work of a new establishment building up clientele. We were provided the menus and subsequent to that came warm bread with oil, infused with garlic and herbs. We dined on Eggplant Parmigiana and Arrabiata with beef meatballs. The servings were mighty and the food delicious. The eggplant was cooked well, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The star of my tastebuds however, was the Arrabiata. It. Is. Good. It has a kick to it that spice lover's will absolutely adore. I love this dish. It will be hard for me to try any others. It is 'that" good. We went here this evening. We had a 6:30 reservation. It was myself, my husband, & my brother-in-law visiting from Oregon. I had eaten here a few weeks ago with friends and recommended we have dinner, sure we wouldn't be disappointed. My husband & I split the lasagna & my brother-in-law had the tartufo- both were excellent. The service was attentive. They kept our water filled, brought my milk with the meal and the bread was warm when it was served. The only problem was our Caesar salad had a lot of water in the bottom of the plate. The lettuce has to be dried further before putting it on the plate! We all commented on the lighting. We could actually see our food. It did seem to dim at one point but then went back to the same. The restaurant is decorated nicely. We enjoyed it very much. One of their patrons was even there helping out - that says a lot about how much she thinks of the restaurant!!! read more

Not even sure where to start on this one, but what a crazy night at Mangia! My husband and I traveled from OKC to Plano to visit our son. We decided on Mangia for dinner because the reviews were good and we were looking for a good, local place. We met at the restaurant. We got there after our son and his roommate, and sat down and ordered drinks. Our waiter, Isaiah, was so sweet and friendly. Moments later, a manager from the front of the restaurant shouts to everyone in the place that a Bronco Sport is being towed from one side of the building. We knew immediately that the car was our son's. My son and husband went flying out of the building to stop the process. Our son had not seen the (rather arbitrarily placed) signs in front of other spaces along that side of the building. He was the only car parked there. Meanwhile, Isaiah explained that there has been an ongoing war between Mangia and the restaurant next door, Fish 'n Tails over the parking spaces, which are actually up against Mangia and much further away from FnT. My husband quickly hopped in the Bronco to prevent the tow. The tow truck driver demanded that he leave the vehicle. Husband refused. As long as someone is in the vehicle, it cannot be legally towed. Meanwhile, Mangia's lovely owner, Artur Pira, repeatedly offered to pay the towing charge so that everyone could get on with their evening. The tow driver refused. Somewhere in the process, Plano police showed up in force and tried to work out the details. All the while, husband is waiting it out in the car. One other guest had already had his car towed and a Mangia manager graciously drove him to the tow lot and paid the fee. Amazing. My son, his roommate and I decided to make the best of things. I paid for the three drinks and glass of wine we had ordered and proceeded to order two large pizzas to take to the parking lot and enjoy there while we all waited out the belligerent tow truck driver. He gave in before the pizzas were ready when Artur offered him a cash payment. My husband and I had also been offering to pay the fee the entire time. Vehicle released and moved, we went inside and were offered free drinks while we waited on our pizzas, also generously provided at no charge by Mangia. At about 10:15, we took the pizza to our son's apartment and they were absolutely delicious. The whole ordeal took about two hours and Artur and other employees were there for us the entire time. To say we will return to Mangia is an understatement. However, we will NOT park on the south side of the building! I went to Aboca's in Richardson this evening and it was very busy. Since I found out that they had a sister restaurant in Plano, I decided to stop by to check it out. When I walked in, it immediately smelled like raw sewage and there were no customers. The landlord or owner needs to get this corrected before they get any more business. read more
