The chef is well trained at some famous Japanese restaurants. Food is good and very affordable. Highly recommend it.

Medium spice was not spicy at all for us. - Duck curry: a bit small on the portions but the curry is magical. Was scraping this plate clean. - Bo luc lac: star dish for sure. Beef melts on your tongue and the marinade is slightly sweet and smoky. - Summer rolls: small portions but the flavor is there. Super refreshing and special bc they pickle the vegetables inside. - Crispy pork belly: reminds me of the crispy pork I had in Vietnam. Really well done, pairs well with the lettuce and herbs. That green sauce is so addicting. - Papaya salad: super refreshing, nice fish sauce. - Crab fried rice: reminds me of the din tai fung fried rice bc of how clean the flavor is. Great dim ambiance for a date or dinner out. Definitely coming back soon.

It was a quiet and nice spot to catch up with a friend. The service was also great, as the food came out quickly and they were very attentive with refilling our waters. We each got the pho bo, which was about $28 after tip and tax. I liked the meats in the soup a lot, and the broth was tasty. The noodles did clump together quite a bit though, so it felt like they weren't the most fresh.

First, its located off Columbus Ave steps from the corner of a quaint and quiet residential W 82nd St. There are 4 large steps out front, so be mindful if you or a member of your party has mobility issues. The steps feel a bit taller than traditional height but these buildings are over 100 years old so just be mindful when walking. They are navigatable with a cane and someone to assist, as we did for a member of our party. The interior of this location is beautiful. There is a bar area at the front and large hibachi seating just beyond to accommodate large groups. The staff are friendly, professional and personable, with our chef providing his spin on the usual hibachi chef performances. Aside from the standard onion volcano, sake spray, food toss and egg catch trick, our chef did a few gags I'd never seen performed at any hibachi place we've visited. The food was good and the service was great. The lobster tail and scallops I ordered were delicious. The surprise ringing of the gong and ice cream with sparklers was a nice surprise for the birthday girl! This is our 2nd visit to this location and we will be back

The chefs were so funny and entertaining - they seem to love their job which made it so enjoyable! They also had a fun birthday celebration for one of the people in our party, complete with a gong, sparklers, and ice cream. We only got hibachi, which came with vegetables, protein, and an appetizer. I was disappointed that it did not come with noodles or fried rice like some other spots include, you needed to pay $6 extra which was steep for the amount of rice you got. The noodle portion, however, was very generous. The appetizers were also quite small, with options for salad, soup, tofu, and/or two potstickers. Food overall was well seasoned. I would return if in the area.

This restaurant sits comfortably on the middle of the block and definitely looks like it's been there for a while. I think for over 30 years? Yes I came for the fried chicken and green sauce. They have a $15.50 lunch special but ended up picking up dinner since I was finally in the area. The #12 Crackling Chicken (white meat) w/ Pork Fried Rice is $26. The portion is Very Generous! Literally 6 large pieces of chicken breast (split open thinly & battered). I made sure to ask for the green sauce & they gave me a little bag of 3 containers. It's a kind of cilantro garlic herby aoli. I always expect a kind of Mama's Empanadas (Colombian) spicy version, but this (maybe Peruvian?) will always be mayo-forward? It's tasty, but nothing *So special - better than the Chino Peruvian place in my Queens neighborhood; but idk it's mayo. For some reason they gave me a House Special Fried Rice instead of the Pork Fried Rice that comes with the order. This was excellent! (Haven't had American-style Chinese Food in years...cuz when you grow up selling quality versions of it...) Had large cubes of seared! ham, char sui (Roast Pork) & bouncy shrimp. Nice umami undertones. About the chicken - it was good, medium crispy, medium juicy, slightly brined & well made. BUT - it's Just Fried Chicken. TBH after a few bites, I wonder if they're inspired by Popeyes. The chicken meat is better than Popeyes, but overall that's what it reminded me of (& Popeyes does a good job btw). IDK - I was influenced to expect some kind of special seasoning with the chicken, maybe a Chinese salt & pepper blend? I wonder if I'd like the bone-in chicken / dark meat option more. I recommend this combo meal, would be interested in seeing how their other dishes are if I had a group to eat with. Happy to support a small business. I froze the other 3 chicken pieces for a future meal. Wonder if one of the little green sauces freezes well too. The restaurant feels really homey and was full on a 6:30 PM on a Sunday. But people didn't seem to have to wait too long. There were a few customers waiting for to-go orders alongside me at the front bar area. It's funny when the young staff acts abruptly rude "How many!", but you know they're 2nd Gen. hope this business sticks around for many more years, very 80's - 90's Chinese American Latin feel!

Happy New Year! In…read morecase you were wondering where I was after a three and a half week absence, I had to attend to some personal matters, but I am back and here to get 2026 off the mat with someplace I have never been to. Conveniently located only a short walk from the 72nd Street station on the 1/2/3, this restaurant follows the same model as La Caridad 72. Chinese/Cuban cuisine, mixed in with other dishes from South America. These are two cuisines that are integral to the human condition. Do not frown upon this combo, or you will instantly regret it. As I got here at the tail end of their lunch rush, I was given a lunch menu, so I ordered a wonton soup, with a chicken lo mein with a side of plantains. Got all that? Unfortunately, the wonton soup lacks a little here. The wontons fall apart and the soup has little character. It does come with several wontons as well as a side of crispy wonton strips, and some duck sauce, but overall it was an underwhelming soup. The duck sauce and wonton strips were a great way to set up the main dish, much like peanuts at a bar. They also allowed my stomach to reset in order to get ready for the heavy stuff. Lo mein is not heavy by any means, but combined with the plantains really created an excellent combination. The noodles are good perfectly, the chicken has tons of flavor, and the plantains are cooked to perfection with an outstanding taste and texture. I will eat these anywhere, anytime. The portion is nice too for a lunch meal. I did not feel shortchanged at all. The menu has other offerings that tried to seduce me into staying longer and having a more expensive bill. Any other time I would have caved like a 18 year old at a strip club. Thankfully I have more restraint than that, so I just asked for the check, paid, and walked out. As I speak some Spanish, I was hoping to use this skill there, but I read the room and saw that this was not the arena to do that. Oh well. There is a time and place for everything. Now I have to make some time for a return visit. If a visit to this restaurant was any indication, I think 2026 is going to be a unique year for me.

If you're craving authentic Peruvian cuisine with a strong Chinese (Chifa) influence, this is a spot you won't want to miss. The dining room has a lively yet relaxed atmosphere, with soft music in the background that makes it perfect for everything from a casual dinner to a night out with friends. One thing to know before you go: this place is popular, especially during peak lunch and dinner hours. You may have to wait for a table, but don't let that discourage you. The food, generous portions, friendly service, and overall experience make it well worth it. After one visit, you'll understand why locals keep coming back. We kicked things off with a couple of appetizers that set the tone for the entire meal. Yuccas Arequipeña (not pictured) featured perfectly fried cassava topped with red onions and a rich, creamy huancaína sauce made with queso fresco, garlic, red onion, and aji amarillo. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with flavor. The Choros a la Chalaca were just as impressive. Fresh mussels topped with diced tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and lime juice. Bright, refreshing, and bursting with fresh flavor--I could have easily ordered another plate. For our entrées, every dish arrived piping hot, beautifully presented, and generously portioned. The Lomo Saltado was everything you hope for in this classic Peruvian favorite. Tender slices of steak stir-fried with onions and tomatoes, served with crispy fries and fluffy white rice. A true comfort food classic. The Seco de Res was outstanding. The beef was fork-tender, slowly braised in a rich cilantro sauce with carrots and potatoes, then served with rice that was perfect for soaking up every bit of that incredible sauce. The Broiled Pork Chops were juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, paired with delicious fried rice and a fresh salad. We also ordered the Mixed Ceviche, loaded with fresh fish, squid, and octopus cured in lime juice with onions. It was bright, citrusy, incredibly fresh, and the perfect contrast to the heartier entrées. Every dish came out hot, fresh, and surprisingly quickly, even with the restaurant being busy. A huge shout-out to Carlos, who made an already great meal even better. He was attentive without hovering, knew the menu inside and out, answered every question, and made excellent recommendations. Service like his is one of the reasons this restaurant continues to earn such a loyal following. If you visit, definitely ask for Carlos. From the warm hospitality and inviting atmosphere to the outstanding food, generous portions, and excellent value, Flor De Mayo delivered an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. It's easy to see why this Upper West Side gem has been a neighborhood favorite for years. If you're anywhere near Amsterdam Avenue and looking for incredible Peruvian-Chinese cuisine, Flor De Mayo should be at the top of your list. Whether it's your first visit or your tenth, it's absolutely worth the wait--and I'll definitely be back to work my way through the rest of the menu.

I think its so interesting how Chinese immigrants came to Cuba and incorporated their cuisine with local Cuban food. Came during lunch time to Flor De Mayo and was able to get a table for 3 very easily. - Chupe de Camarón - I saw a lot of people rave about this soup on Google Reviews so I decided to give it a try. At first glance, it looked pretty good and I had expected it to almost have a cajun broil like flavor profile but I felt like the soup lacked a bit of flavor and was a bit watered down - 1/2 Chicken, A La Carte - Becuase I wasn't sure if I was going to get my protein fix from the soup itself, I ordered their rotisserie chicken and I thought it was okay. Although the skin of the chicken had a lot of flavor, the chicken itself didn't really retain that flavor and was a bit dry. Overall, I think the food is interesting to try once but I'm not sure I would come back again.

Within an hour, it started to fill up due to the heat rising outside. One thing worth mentioning is that it was breathtaking inside. It has beautiful decor and just felt like I was in a different part of the world. Our table was literally a cut stone and the plates were picked with great detail. Our server was kind and patient as we agonized over what to select for our meal. My friend doesn't eat red meat or raw fish but that didn't deter me from ordering the whole royale dorade sashimi. That was really soothing and delicious being that we walked in on a day hot enough to be considered a heat wave. My friend had the Thai tea swizzle. Yes, they have refreshers (non-alcoholic drinks) along with cocktails (alcoholic). I know my friend decided on the grilled chicken Lao style which was really good, whereas I ordered the grilled branzino which came with this delicious salsa Verde. I was debating on whether to get more: looking at the other delicious salads, gai lan, and the Isaan beef meatballs, but my tummy couldn't fit in another bite. I even saw a dessert section which looked yummy (ube creme caramel or the Thai tea affogato). I would recommend this spot especially for a celebration. I did not know about the tasting menus. The Peekytoe Crab Fried Rice was an excellent side as was the Charred Brussels Sprouts. The Bamboo Sweet Sticky Rice was also good and presented on a unique way.
