I purchased two gift cards as birthday gifts for friends. At the time of purchase, the employee mentioned that they were using a new system, so I was understanding when the process seemed a little difficult. However, I only received one of the two gift cards by email. I contacted the business separately to request the missing gift card. Rather than simply re-sending it, I was repeatedly asked to check my junk/spam folder. While I understand that emails can occasionally be filtered, this became frustrating when the gift card still wasn't received. The owner eventually located the missing gift card several days later, but by then my friend's birthday had already passed. What should have been a simple gift purchase turned into a frustrating experience and ultimately ruined the timing of the gift. Unfortunately, the problems continued when I tried to redeem the gift card. There was another significant delay and difficulty getting it processed, and I ultimately had to contact the manager myself to get the issue resolved. What was most disappointing was not simply that mistakes happened, but how the situation was handled. I would have been much more understanding if there had been a simple apology and an effort to make the situation right. Instead, I felt like I was being given a hard time for an issue that was not caused by me. Businesses can have new systems and occasional mistakes--that's understandable. What matters is how those mistakes are handled with customers and lack of training with their employees. In this case, I felt the communication, follow-through, and customer service were lacking. I was a returning customer and would have continued supporting this business, but after these experiences, I unfortunately will not be returning or purchasing gift cards from here again.

At Craft Sierra Madre, I can pick up very high quality supplies quickly, chat with the owner, and look around at all of the other things people are doing. So much fun. The class was scheduled for 2 hours. We ended an hour early with an end product that was a bit underwhelming. Our instructor was friendly enough, though never introduced herself nor took the time to ask the class (all 3 of us) our names. I wrote a letter to the owner and never got a response back. Highly unlikely I will return. Below is the letter I sent, including a few other underwhelming aspects to the class: "Hello! I took last evening's Macrame Weaving workshop. As I was driving back to Long Beach last evening after the class, I had some time to reflect on the workshop. I signed up for it to learn a new skill that I could potentially teach my students. (I've been an Art Teacher for many years). Unfortunately, I feel very disappointed with the class as a whole, as well as with our end result product. I believe the owner was there last evening; I regret not having pulled her aside to chat, though I wasn't quite clear on how I felt about the class until I was on my ride home. Our instructor was very friendly and I so appreciate the use of the high quality organic cotton cord. I also appreciated the hand out with the images of various knot styles. However, I don't even know what our instructor's name was. She never introduced herself or asked our names - there were only two other participants besides myself. We ended class nearly an hour early. This feels like a waste of project making and learning time. Either the project we did was too simple or our instructor wasn't thoroughly prepared. Her instruction was okay, though I don't think it is very helpful to physically do something for the student which she did a number of times. I believe it is more helpful to walk them through it verbally while allowing them to do it to experience the motions and acquire muscle memory. Craft is a great space! The shop owner was incredibly patient with my girls, walking them through their decoden creations and making sure they had everything they needed. They genuinely had a great time, and it was a fun, creative activity that kept them engaged. There was one more hiccup at checkout--they initially charged us the additional sitting fee per person because they hadn't realized we had already booked an appointment. Thankfully, they caught the mistake afterward and promptly refunded the extra charge, which I appreciated. Would I come back? Maybe. Instead, you get to pick from a selection of paint colors and their team finish glazing and fire it for you. You also need to wait about 6 weeks for it to be ready for pick up, which is standard for community pottery places. I picked the white paint with specks which I regretted. The glaze came back with some uneven spots and a dark brown mark on the outside. Since the studio glazed it for us, I was a little disappointed with the final result. Pottery definitely tests your patience and perfectionism. Not sure if pottery is for me, but I might come back for their wheel throwing class.

There's a huge selection of unlimited charms and icing colors to choose from. But warning!! Don't grab too many charms because whatever you don't use, you have to put it back. They showed us a demo and assisted us in putting our charms back. The parking was easy and cheap. There's a del mar parking lot right around the corner across the street from the gas station. The spot looks a little small, but they have private back rooms to work on your rugs. One of the hardest parts for us was having a design ready! That maybe took an hour lol I would come with multiple designs in mind and to make sure the color blocking is larger, especially for your first time. After we chose our design, we got a lesson on how to use the tufting guns and especially the safety of how to hold them because the needle is quite sharp. We were then set up with our rugs, and got underway. You trace your design with markers first with a projection. When you start tufting, the key is to have a steady hand, try as best to evenly space your rug lines as you go and keep a good pace, and only doing one color at a time. After this they will show you how to save down your rug and then will add the backing for you because the glue/iron is very hot. This spot was conveniently located to grab drinks and snacks at nearby businesses. Overall a really fn experience and Iove seeing my new rug everyday!

Remember to bring your design on your phone to show them! The worker was really nice, he guided us throughout the whole process. He demonstrated how to properly used the tufting gun and his tips to remember when using it. First, they project your design on the canvas for you to trace. After, you start the tufting process which took a long timee. My hands would cramp up and my back got tired from standing. They do have chairs for you to sit on but I found it was harder for me to put enough pressure on the canvas when I sat down lol. I think they have a good selection of primary colored yarns to choose from, but I think they could have more shades of colors. This part took the longest! I was worried that we wouldn't finish in our appointment time which was 3-6pm but they were very lenient and said we could take as long as we want or even come back another time to finish it. So we ended up staying till 3-9pm. Once you are satisfied with it the worker showed us how to cut and shave the rug for the final product! Overall was a really fun activity and worth the experience for the price. Tips: do prepare to spend a lot of time there especially if it's your first time.
