I would suspect they are content on trying to persuade the public away from a fantastic establishment which prides itself on providing true asian dishes. Captain C or whatever his name is likely more accustomed to pairing an egg roll on a chicken farm than appreciating what authentic food from Asia actually taste like. It should sound an alarm whenever someone repeatedly creates reviews either praising or tarnishing an establishment. It should tell you it's highly personal. Fact is from my personal experience having first dined at Mai Pearl at least 4 years ago and having the pleasure to repeat a genuine excellent dining experience at least once every 6 months when I'm in the area I have yet to experience anything other than great sushi, great entrees, good cocktails & decent enough service in that it's attentive without unnecessarily being interrupted while enjoying the good food & drinks and company I'm with. Please beware there are people on Yelp who's job it is literally to shake down or destroy an establishment. There's plenty of businesses who shouldn't be even opened their so poorly managed while often being unsanitary. This group of owners, managers, whoever they are care far more than most on what it means to be hard working responsible and fair as well as clean. You are assured from the moment you arrive that this is the best Asian establishment in the area and from my personal experience the best tasting Asian food of Chinese heritage that I have personally come across in North America. It is certainly not the best Chinese food around, but it is not the worst either. I do like that they offer combination plates, which is becoming harder to find at some restaurants, and there are still a few decent options on the menu. The biggest issue for me is the overall condition and atmosphere of the restaurant. During my visit there were tiny fruit flies, gnats, or similar small insects flying around the dining room and even in the men's bathroom. That is definitely not something you want to deal with while trying to eat and it really takes away from the experience. Another thing I have noticed is how empty the restaurant has been. The last few times I have been here there have been very few, if any, other customers in the dining room. Obviously I cannot speak to their overall business, but seeing the place consistently that quiet does not exactly inspire confidence. Overall, Mai Pearl is just okay at this point. The food is passable and I appreciate the combination plates, but between the cleanliness concerns, lack of atmosphere, and decline in food quality compared with years ago, it is difficult to recommend. I remember this being a much better place, and unfortunately it just does not seem to be what it used to be.

The promise of some yummy drinks got me and in the Mai Tai delivered. I could have ordered a few but I stuck with one. I was pleasantly surprised with the veggie lo mein, it was a decent portion. To top it all off we waited almost 2 hours for our food we asked multiple times when it was coming out and every time the answer was "it'll be out shortly". It took so long for the food to come out we had to get it to go and even that took almost 30 minute. when receiving the food the waitresses practically threw our food at us upside down. when opening our food there was no sauce on half of our pasta. Some of my friends asked for sauce to be added to the food and saw that our waitress was crying honestly so embarrassing to be crying when it's your fault for messing up all our food and the whole experience. Will never go back and I hope the management deals with this appropriately.
