This place has been run by the most amazing owners for about 10 years now. Just took new ownership (crab rangoon has changed :-(, but still the nicest people you'll meet. They know your name, remember what you order, it's great food and good portions. I love this place and we eat at a lot of chinese restaurants. This is by far the best Chinese restaurant in the area. IMHO, it's even better than the big name national chain place. The funny thing is, my 2 boys were the ones who initially told me they liked Mandarin Chef best. So the next time we went, I paid close attention to all the food they and I ordered. While they may not have the best ambiance (it's still OK), their food is fabulous. And that's why I go Chinese - for the taste, not the atmosphere. Do your own taste test. Try and compare. You'll see, too. For example, the Crab Rangoon was amazing, with more filling than I've ever seen anywhere. Their version of General Gau chicken was exceptional. I've had this tasty dish at many Chinese restaurants over the years, and this had to be among the best, if not the best! My son ordered the Crispy Orange Beef. Wow! A little on the sweet side for some, perhaps, but he said it was so much better than other places. Oh, and the price is very reasonable, and they are easy to get to from route 95. read more

The first time I came her was after swimming at the YMCA across the street... I was absolutely starving and couldn't wait to get home to eat. I walked in and was greeted warmly by Steve, the owner. After ordering some chicken and broccoli to go, he invited me to sit down until it was ready. While I waited, we struck up a conversation about how he was a swimmer and diver too. Even though it was my first visit he treated me like a regular, and remembered my name the next time I came in even though it was a few weeks later. He's obviously a guy who takes pride in his restaurant and enjoys what he does, and it shows in the quality of the food and the service. Great experience. Ordered online though their website. Order was ready when requested. Gentleman inside the restaurant was very kind. Restaurant itself is small - which is fine, we usually do takeout anyway. Very clean which is hugely important to us. Food was good and the portions were good as well. On our third return in a month with more friends this little building just off the Rotary in Foxboro has to be 2010's best hidden treasure. This is not your typical msg-drenched Chinese food. The dishes are delicious and well prepared. The staff is extremely friendly too. We tried this new place last week and it was really good! Very small but impecable, neat, and great service! Unlike most Chinese around here the food had is fresher, tastier, and much better prepared. It is not straight of some mom's kitchen in Beijing but compareably the food does not feel so bogged down in grease and soy sauces. Good for the family or anyone. Not crazy about the eat-in dining atmosphere here because it's not that big and it's either too loud or too quiet depending what time of day. Be careful ordering here on New Year's Eve because it can be chaos. Found the new owner (not Stephen) to be very nice... but he really ticked me off when they put the wrong broth sauce in my chicken cashew dinner (it's usually a dark broth but put this light tasteless broth) and refused to do anything about it saying I "waited too long to pick it up" as an explanation why it tasted wrong. Total BS because I've ordered the same meal almost every time. Like the food but refusing to go back unless it's tied to a fund raiser for my kids sports league in town or my kids are dead set on a Pu Pu Platter. I was a big fan of this restaurant when steve the previous owner took it over. I am still a fan now! The new owners have made some minor tweaks to the building itself which I think are for the better. For the most part they have kept the menu the same and pretty much the dishes are the same. The only difference I have seen is that Steve use to have more specials which don't bother me as I am preety much set in what I get! On the other hand I am pretty much set in what I order and the new owners are flexible in excluding items that I don't like in my food like bell peppers! Maybe the new owners don't remmeber your name but the go out of their way to make sure you get what you want! read more

I created my yelp account primarily to review this restaurant. It's the best Chinese I've found in town. I can't speak about how it was when Steve was the owner, but I'm always happy when I go there now. To me the portions are fine. Hot and sour soup is tasty. General Gao's Chicken is well paired with steamed broccoli (other restaurants omit the broccoli and I find that disappointing). Maybe I would like a little more punch to the garlic chicken but it's still pretty good. Most important, the staff is very friendly and the restaurant is very clean and relaxing. As you sit there you see a constant stream of pick-up customers so it seems they're doing something right. read more

No MSG! I love how small and quaint the dining room is - you can really enjoy a nice dinner here and not feel so rushed as in most Asian restaurants. The food is excellent - the staff was spot on. They watched us like a hawk and made sure meals came out - right as we finished the previous. Loved the chicken wings, sesame chicken and Hot and Sour soup. No doubt fresh ingredients is their key. Finally , excellent Chinese without going to Chinatown. The spare ribs are what Chinese ribs are supposed to be, the fish dishes fresh and the soups are out of this world. You won't be disappointed! read more

We have visited this restaurant a dozen times in the past six months; every visit has been met with quality food, good value and stellar service. Even the take out was top notch. After thinking Chinese restaurants in our area were all the same, I am pleased to say that Mandarin Chef is one that stands above the rest. Checked out the reviews and figured I would give this place a try. Doesn't look like much on the outside, very small looking, and inside is small as well but the food is better than most around, prices similar, comparable to Mai Pearl down the street. Unlike Mai Pearl, this is not really an eat in place but there is a small dining area and the owner makes you feel welcome. Menu is typical Chinese selections and the portions are very large so we sort of over did it with our order but we tried Lo Mein, Fried Rice, Pu Pu Platter for two, chicken with broccoli. All tasted fresh and were prepared to order, with exception of the chicken fingers which tasted old. The amount of calls they were getting while we ate was unreal, phone was ringing off the hook and people picking up orders. I gave it 4 stars because it was good, but not the best Chinese I have ever tasted, but still would recommend this place. read more

Fellow yelpers... I think the new owners heard your messages because I went back there tonight and the food was simply outstanding. They now have lunch and PM combos and have really expanded their menu. Stephen was outstanding... but now it's even better... I had beef teryaki, chicken fingers and wonton soup.
