I ordered 14 mattresses to replace some older ones, so I was a little hesitant, because I was purchasing in bulk without having the opportunity to try one in person first. I am happy to say they have exceeded my expectations! They are thick, comfortable, well-made and look great. Everyone who will be using them will be pleased. I honestly expected a car-sales-type experience, but it was the complete opposite - Excellent customer service + no pressure: Sorosh and Jerry were both incredibly helpful, took time to explain the differences between mattresses, and focused on what actually fit my needs rather than upselling. I tested 90% of the mattresses and felt confident in my choice -- my neck and back feel so much better. - The showroom is clean and spacious with a great pillow selection - Delivery was smooth and on time. I was very unhappy with my experience here. the mattresses for from about $1500-10,000. That was a shock. The manager (Gerry Kite) recommended a Casper Snow - which was on the lower price range so I bought it. I got it home and immediately hated it. I went in the next day and Mr Kite said well if you didn't like it, why did you buy it? (I layed down on it for about 30 seconds, I guess that was supposed to tell me everything I should know about sleeping for 8 hours on it). Then I was informed I couldn't bring it back for 30 days. So the next month was a misery. the mattress was so hot I had to run a fan at night which gave me a head cold. I"m still coughing now. If I didn't have a decent couch I would have had to check into a hotel for a month. To be fair they did give me a set of bamboo sheets they said would help with keeping me cool. They didn't, but it was at least an acknowledgement. Finally they did take it back and gave me a refund minus $200. I"m not used to paying 200 to be miserable for a month, but I was happy to get out of the whole mess. I finally went to Costco and joined - for $65/year - they have a huge selection of mattresses, for a fraction of the cost. And they'll take it back any day since the day of purchase up to 3 years! As long as the mattress isn't soiled. I immediately bought a Sealy Icon for $400 and I love it. read more

My mother and I went here to pick up a new mattress for a rental we have. There was virtually no one at the store, so we were wondering why it was taking them half an hour to track down a mattress from their main warehouse that interested us. William came back and gave us a breakdown of everything they had done to get us the best possible deal on an open box of this one that would have been even lower than their Labor Day sales offer and still, for all intents and purposes, brand new. I was floored by the amount of work that went into getting this for us. I won't say the price, but it was a BARGAIN! They've also got a HUGE showroom and wide selection. I want to thank the store manager Jerry and sales associates Sorosh and Billy for making the experience such a pleasurable one, and for helping me find the right mattress for my situation. Jerry was professional, very knowledgable (30 years experience in the mattress industry) and a pleasure to work with. He was kind, patient, knowledgable and informative. I never felt rushed, allowing me to take the time I needed, to find the right mattress and base for my situation. When I told him I wanted wheel casters on the adjustable base, he went out of his way, taking the time calling different manufactures, in order to locate wheel casters that could fit the adjustable base. He didn't even charge me for the castors! Jerry also gave me a great deal on the mattress, base and pillows. Jerry. You are truly a class act! I had to get a new mattress, and they are very very expensive. I don't give them a high rating for their high price. But this was being paid for by someone else, so i went there. A few weeks later i was back. In this new place i'm at i noticed water stains on the ceiling above the bed. That means the ceiling was leaking right over the bed. They had tried to sell me a mattress protector but i declined, saying i don't really need it. Well the stains made me think twice. I told the guy i changed my mind and needed it after all. Bravo to Mancini's and the professional and kind people who run the Berkeley store. It is the best customer service experience I have had in a very long time in this world which suddenly seems to be run by robots. I came to Mancini's to look for a new mattress because every morning I got out of bed from my old mattress and had severe pains in my lower back (which had been a long-term problem). Billy greeted me at the door and welcomed me in. He listened to my concerns and introduced me to a group of beds which were much more comfortable than the one I already had, but not quite perfect. Then he and Gerald suggested a different type of mattress that they thought was a better solution for my problems and although they were absolutely right about how much better these mattresses felt, they were also very expensive and and probably out of my price range. When I told them that despite how extremely comfortable the mattress was, at 83 years of age, I was hesitant to make such a big purchase. Then they told me about a financing plan that was available to me, which allowed me to make interest free monthly payments and suddenly I realized that I could in fact afford to buy what seemed to be the answer to all of my back problems. We then proceeded to the paper work which they helped me fill out and because I had been there for quite a while, even offered me lunch. I felt completely pampered by their attention to me and the time they took to make sure that everything was in perfect order. The next day the installers came and were efficient and very professional in taking away the old mattress and installing the new one...right down to teaching me how the remote control worked. Imagine how I felt when the very next morning I woke up and realized that I no longer had the back pain that had been such an annoyance for so long. Nothing can actually fix my lower back, but now I realize that a lot of the day-to-day pain I was suffering was because of the mattress I had on my bed. This review is almost entirely about Jerry of Mancini's Berkeley store. He is a true jewel. My wife and I have a close relative who was discharged from the hospital the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Although she has her own home and family, she needed to come stay with us for a while. We'd rented an uncomfortable hospital bed (are there any hospital beds that are "comfortable"?), but on that Saturday we decided we wanted a really good mattress topper for her. And it was very timely because she was coming to stay with us the next day. So, we called Mancini's. Jerry picked up the phone. Even though I assume it was a very busy shopping weekend for Mancini's, Jerry took lots of time to discuss the options for us. He was very kind, honest, and compassionate. Eventually, it became clear we were going to buy a mattress topper elsewhere and that Jerry was not going to get a sale. Nevertheless, he continued talking to us for quite a while and gave us more advice based on his experience with his elderly grandmother. We very much appreciate the kind advice Jerry gave us. He really helped us solve our dilemma. We highly, highly recommend him. FYI, this is consistent with our past experience with Mancini's in Berkeley. Some years ago, we went shopping for a really good memory foam queen size mattress. That sales person (I can't remember his name) also took a lot of time with us, showing us a number of different mattresses, and going into the pros and cons of each. Dropped by Mancini's Sleepworld last weekend to look at mattresses. Not the most exciting task on the to-do list, but it needed to happen. When entering and exiting the cavernous store, an automatic chime goes off, alerting the sales team. When we arrived, a handful of staff were on the floor with few, if any, other customers. Even though Alameda County just resumed the mask mandate in workplaces and indoor public settings, no staff were wearing face coverings. Salesperson Josh provided knowledgeable and pleasant customer service without any heavy-handed sales tactics. After trying out a few options, we identified a strong prospect, however opted to do more research before purchasing. While Josh provided his contact information and specifics on our choice to my partner, I looked around the sales floor, testing furniture. Twice, in maybe fifteen minutes, I walked in and out of the store, accompanied by that automatic chime, both to take a mask-off break from the chore of shopping and to get fresh air, since the staff were completely unmasked during another rise in coronavirus case numbers. Upon my second reentry, a staff person immediately approached and somewhat apologetically and awkwardly advised that I was messing up the staff each time I came and went, essentially asking that I stop entering and exiting the store. Embarrassed, I apologized and immediately sat down so as to not further annoy the staff. That odd ending to the otherwise positive shopping experience sticks with me. I understand the irritation that the recurring chime must present when you are working in the store, especially if customers are unwittingly setting it off repeatedly. Not sure if that entry alert sound doubles as a data-collection tool, tallying the number of customers, or a way for the team to equitably divide sales opportunities; regardless, for the sake of the customer experience when a spendy purchase is on the table, it seems that management should come up with a way to monitor customers that is less disturbing to their staff, or advise the team to accept the security alert sounds as part of the work environment and not "correct" customers for the noise pollution caused by their use of the door. read more

We just accidentally drove past it coming from another mattress store in the area, and figured we'd better check it out. This is what customer service looks like. It's nice to give business to family-owned places, which helps keep money locally. We wandered into Mancini's because I previously had a great experience at their Vann Ness location, so it seemed like a great plan to check out the Berkeley location. As soon as we walked in, we were promptly greeted, even though the salesperson was on thr phone with a couple other people. Due to COVID restrictions, it appeared there was just one salesperson on the floor that day, but he let us walk around and then joined in with us after we had made a couple laps around the store. We told him what we were looking for, and he was able to direct us to the appropriate beds, making small talk along the way. We were really torn between two beds, and he let us take our time going back and forth between them until we figured out what we wanted. He didn't try and pressure us into making a purchase, and yet he was still very knowledable and able to provide that intel to us in a non-forceful manner. We ended up getting one of the beds, and when I checked into Yelp, I realized that we get two free pillows along with the bed purchase, which was a nice surprise. You can definitely get the family atmosphere of someone lending a hand and getting you a deal here, which I really love and miss from shopping from these big corporations. In any case, I highly recommend this location for all your mattress needs. They also have a nice and somewhat massive clearance section that has some great deals, so everyone can go home with something nice. Definitely make this your first stop for a mattress, and it just may be your only stop. read more

I bought a platform bed that squeeked. It was the normal price where the salesperson and owner said it was a deal. And when I asked if I could return it they said they could only take a look at it and tighten any screws. That was the problem though, two screws were over tightened. Also the structure didn't have a solid beam in the middle if you wanted to add better slats instead of those poor ones with screws right through it. read more

I usually shop at Crate & Barrel, where it goes without saying that furniture can be returned no questions asked. I even had a piece of furniture that developed a defect 2 years after I bought it, and they gave me a refund for that as well and even picked up the furniture at no charge. This time I thought I'd give a local establishment a try, so I went to Mancini's Sleepworld. After waiting around quite a while, I was finally given some service and a nice bed (with no input from the salesperson) and also what seemed to be a nice recliner. I tried out the recliner in the store and it seemed comfortable enough. Once it was delivered, I sat on in for 20 minutes or so and it became obvious that the shape of the back was not going to work for me. There is no neck support and the head gets pushed forward, so my neck become quite sore after sitting on it. I called to store back and was told they give no refunds on furniture. I went back to the store to discuss this with the manager and he had no interest in anything I had to so. He wouldn't even let me complete my sentence when he interrupted me and said there was absolutely nothing he could do anything about it. Of course, they can do whatever they want about it, but that was all he had to say and now I'm stuck with a $700 recliner I can only stare at. Let me add that the salesperson told me absolutely nothing about their no return policy. A cursory look at the paperwork shows in bold font that they have a 120-day return policy. What they don't tell you unless you read the fine print is that they do not take returns on furniture. This is a deceptive sales practice, as I have always been able to return furniture. I only sat on it for 20 minutes and it still has the tags on it. Is anyone looking for a recliner? Maybe it works off you're over 6 feet talk. read more

After having poor experiences with a few of the newer mattress in a box options, I wanted to purchase a more traditional mattress. I did a bunch of research online and came to the conclusion that it would be best to visit a store to try out mattresses on my own. I was a little nervous about visiting this location after seeing a few poor reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised by my experience here with Jerry and Sorosh. It turns out the place is under new management! If I remember correctly, they used to be at the Pinole location and recently started at the Berkeley location. A previous reviewer recommended not visiting alone as a female after a particularly icky experience and thankfully, I did not have a similar experience when visiting by myself. A mattress can be quite the investment and I wanted to make sure I was making a good decision. I was able to try out a bunch of mattresses from different brands and they even had a few of the newer brands (Helix, Avocado, etc.). Jerry and Sorosh were very kind and didn't make me pressured to buy anything. I mostly worked with Jerry who helped me with choosing a mattress by starting off with questions about budget, preferred firmness, etc. He took the time to answer any and all questions I had and suggested additional considerations that helped me with narrowing things down. When I read some conflicting information online about the layers in a mattress I was looking at, they took the time to double-check things on their end before providing a final answer. I can be somewhat annoyingly thorough when asking questions and I sincerely appreciated how they took the time to provide me with thoughtful and knowledgeable answers. They also offered drinks (and even some of the food they had from a nearby restaurant, haha) while I was there. I was able to purchase a mattress that I'm excited about at a great price and left feeling happy about purchasing from a local store from people that I genuinely liked. The mattress I purchased was available for delivery the next day and the delivery process was super smooth! I was able to choose a delivery timeframe (I think it was morning-noon?) when purchasing. I received a text the day before delivery with a 2-hour timeframe for delivery with the option to either accept or reschedule delivery. An hourish before my timeframe, I was able to call and immediately get in touch with someone who was able to tell me how far the delivery truck was and approximately when my mattress would be arriving. I was able to have my existing, sad mattress removed by Mancini's too! To anyone who may not have had the best experience here in the past, I'd recommend making another visit if you're in the market for a new mattress. Very unhappy. DECEPTIVE business practices! Floor sample was a tiny twin. We asked: what about a king or a queen, have you no sample?. We were assured a larger size would feel the same. Wrong. We had to PAY them to take it back - they insisted. Totally un-acceptable - if they can not show what you will be buying they should offer a full refund. We plan to contact the State Atty. We were originally told we had to wait 90 days for an inspector to come back out and measure the indentation on the mattress. They finally called Beauty Rest and got approval, which should have been done at the time weeks before when we went to the store in person at our request Instead of giving us the website and claiming they couldn't call and offered to sell us another mattress. They just provided the website to Beauty Rest and got directed back to Mancini. It was a hassle and inconvenience, but we did receive a replacement mattress, and for that, I updated my review to two stars. read more

I recently gave this business a poor review because of a delivery snafu. The manager and sales person apologized for this snafu and personally made sure that the bed was delivered the next morning to the correct address. The night before the delivery, a representative from the warehouse called to make sure the address was correct. The next morning the bed was delivered early and expertly set up quickly.
