The best part was, when her sewing people had a delay, she made sure the covers were done for me before I had company come in from out of town. Great experience here. Was looking to re stuff a high end convertible sofa. Sofa was bought at hotel (Marriot) auction. No longer comfortable for sleeping so I tried to first aid it. Had experience sleeping on one (American Leather Comfort series) and it was the first convertible that felt maybe better than my bed at home. Triple platforms that fold into a standard looking sofa. So impressed by the service and expert professionalism at Famous Foam. I brought 4 large & long sofa bench cushions in to be reupholstered w fabric and piping I had (thought I would do it myself, as I do know how to sew expertly, but I decided I'd rather not turn my home into a furniture reconstruction site!). I have attempted to travel down (from Windsor) to your store during your extremely limited hours of operation. Prior to my travels today I verified online that you were open and phoned your business (however, it just rang and rang with no voicemail or answering machine). Upon arriving, I see a handwritten paper saying you have been closed since 6/3. It is now 6/9. Would you please update your online profile to reflect that you are closed so other potential customers receive better service? This is an expensive trip to have zero progress. I'm disappointed. As a self-employed person, I understand that "emergencies" happen. I'm sure that I'm not the only customer that you've lost because of this lack of communication. I loaded all my cushions into the car and drove all this way spending time and money (i.e.-bridge toll, gas, time off of work, and extra miles on my car). I went in this store and had 3 pieces of foam I was looking to buy. I had my measurements for one foam and brought in the cushion for the other two. The only person in the store was a middle age woman who was helping another customer. I stood in a safe place so as not to be in her way but still visible. She seemed knowledgeable in this position from what I observed. I got no greeting, no acknowledgment [ as Christine stated in response to other dissatisfied customers]. I believe in supporting small business, women and people of color. While waiting another customer came in, looked at me and sat in a chair in front of me closer to the staff person. I did not think anything of it at the time, giving the sales rep the benefit of the doubt that she would ask me how she could help me. When the staff person finished with her other client, she went direct to the person sitting down to help him. I was fuming at this point and waited to observe their interaction. The guy came unprepared with no sizes and told her, "I am doing this as I go". I have to give the staff credit for putting up with a customer who just drags on and takes up all her time. So I waited and still nothing from the staff person, like a Hello, I see you but this customer came in earlier" or something like that as they seem to have a relationship. I am an elder Latino 69 years old and was standing the entire time just to get some positive interaction and nothing. Rather than throw a fit, which I thought about, I decided to just observe. This staff person clearly lacks overall customer service, I give her an "F" as in Failed. She responded to 2 separate picking phone calls and being courteous to people on the phone that she had "customer's" in the store and she was busy and would call back. This was the closest to be acknowledged as one of 3 individual customers. So, I am not going to support a business that doesn't wants my business. Simple as that. It was the second time I was in the store, and this behavior of not seeing me, or purposely ignoring me for whatever bias she has is unacceptable in Berkeley and elsewhere. I do not want to give her credit for her years of work experience because I did not get that chance to have the glowing customer experience that others write about. Being retired, the only thing I can think of is that this sales representative has been doing the business too long and really is at the point of giving up. Sell the business to someone else and get some new blood in there that will have more than one staff person instead of putting it on yourself. Remember to greet a customer, so easy but not done. Keep customers waiting by recognizing them, so that they don't leave like I did. Not even a wink, acknowledging me. I will find another means to figure out my foam needs but not at Famous Foam Factory which I now will refer as "Unfriendly Foam Factory". read more

If you need foam right away, and this place happens to be open well then you are at the right place. HOWEVER, I find that the hours can be difficult so do make sure you check ahead of time. I also found it to be quite expensive. But I'm often pressed for time with projects so I continue to patronize this place. I've had custom foam cut for cushions and bought stuffing there. I looked up Famous Foam Factory on line and when I arrived from Napa the Foam Factory was just like I envisioned it so warm and inviting. Christine while assisting many customers helped me and asked questions with concern on what type of mattress I will need to help me. Christine also suggested a bed frame which would help me sleep better and get off the hard, cold, floor. I was very impressed and I would highly recommend the Famous Foam Factory. I am so pleased with this great local business. And it looks to be be women owned too! Or, at minimum, woman run. I came in with an old cushion cover that had missing zipper head making it useless as well as the 3 pieces of foam it covered. It was a tiny job, easy to blow off. She was able to find a zipper head in her inventory and install it. And she repaired it and repaired it on the spot! She made it all usable. I walked in and put 50% down to have 2 couch cushions refitted on April 15th 2023. I never got a call back. Got an appointment in June for Christine to shape my new foam, which had arrived. Sadly, Christine lost her father suddenly & the shop was closed for a week. I left a note asking for a call back. I ended up going down over the week later to speak to her. I was told "I'm really backed up and I don't know when I'm going to get to it." I left my couch cushions with her in case she has time. It's now August 7th. I'm sure she's feeling overwhelmed. However, it seems unfair that 4 months later, I'm still waiting for the 2 couch cushions. Need them before my total knee replacement next month. Papa bear was curious about foam. they sell "memory foam" here. memory foam reverts back to it's original shape once one gets off the mattress. specs: -starts $629 for mattress only (75" x 35") -foam made in southern california -100% foam, no springs -foam mattress can be folded and can fit in a sedan. -foam here not hard like the kind from china. -tried 3, one very firm, one medium soft, one too soft. I called Famous Foam to inquire about rates to replace a piece of foam from a chair damaged - you guessed it - by cat piss. As an aside - I will be so glad when George turns 6 next year and outgrows the whole bladder crystal blockage thing. Anyway, the shop was super nice - listened to my complaint, made constructive suggestions and was very clear about price, policies and such. I went in today and met Tom - he was professional, friendly & efficient. The shop is so tidy and well organized. I'm really glad that I brought in the old cushion - for $2, they send it to be recycled into floor padding (better than sending to the landfill!). I just purchased 2 extra firm latex coach cushions to replace my existing coach cushions which have had it. I was extremely anxious because there is no refund policy for the type of cushions I purchased. Also, I've never ordered replacement cushions for any of my furniture so this was a real first for me. I really appreciate the instructional video on their website on how to take measurements for the cushions. I was able to follow the instructions with no problem. The ordering process was easy as well. I received my cushions which were packed in plastic and well protected from the elements. I quickly opened them and slid them into my upholstery with no issues. It was a perfect fit. The cushions are nice and firm with very little give when sat upon just as I wanted. I will definitely be ordering again from them! read more

I bought some foam here a few years ago for some dining chairs and had an odd experience with the guy in the store who I'm assuming is the owner. Rather than being polite, friendly and interested in my business he made me feel as though he was doing me a favor by selling me foam. He complained that I had not given him enough time to cut four chair cushions, but there was no one in the store when I went in and he didn't appear to be busy at all. He was willing to cut my foam if I was willing to come back in an hour to get them. I had no time to shop around for foam so I agreed. It was expensive and he was a grump. Fast forward to my most recent visit. I called and asked if they could cut it while I waited, he said yes. He said bring me a pattern. So I took the actual seat cushion thinking this would be the best option. Instead he chided me on not bringing a pattern, refused to remove the foam from the cushion frame, and complained about the old foam possibly getting his store dirty. Rather than drive home to make a pattern, I asked if he had a piece of paper and I volunteered to do it myself on the sidewalk. He gave me a sheet of paper and a pen and away I went to make my pattern, but not before he warned me to not make a mess on the sidewalk. People, I'm not in the foam business. I do amateur upholstery of thrift store finds. I would expect someone who is in the foam business and must deal with upholstery or upholsterers to know more than me and to maybe throw me a bone when I walk in with the cushion instead of a pattern. What would it have taken for him to do it and create goodwill? Instead, I'm out on the sidewalk ripping open a cushion with my keys. He cut the foam and I got out of there. I asked how I should dispose of the old foam, thinking possibly he has some recycling bin that would be better than the garbage. But no, he told me to take it home and throw it in my trash. Great quality here! No trying to "sell" anyone anything that might not be quite right, though various year guarantees are available as well as firmness. Over the years I've bought 2 twins, 1 double, 2 queens. All have been quite satisfactory. Way back in the last century I purchased a foam bed here. It lasted forever, quite nicely, and probably is out there in Michigan still in good shape. Choose the higher grade foam and you'll keep yours forever too. My current bed and the one that replaces it (larger and now airing, just like a new car's interior), are fine. I recommend the zippered covers as that keeps material such as hair from becoming embedded in the foam despite homemade covers and quilted mattress pads useage. I haven't washed mine, as those are new to me. They appear well made, of a good quality material. Patience is the word here. If a customer comes in and appears pushy, this business will not suit. If one is polite and treats the gentleman courteously, service is stellar. Don't ask me why he's that way -- it's nothing personal, just his way of looking at the world. He does enjoy finishing whatever ongoing task he's involved in before moving on. Once you have his attention, he's dedicated to you and you only. I'd say that he's a traditional salesperson, gentleman even, who listens carefully and never tries to "sell", never rushes one, in what can be an influencial purchase on not only one's wallet but back health. Berkeley's like that, full of individuals who value their freedom and integrity over money. I respect that. I wanted foam for some dining chairs I was recovering and within about one minute the gentleman helping me gave me three different prices for the same thing ("I pressed the wrong button on the calculator"). Went to the store at 1:15pm on a Monday. Neon sign in window was illuminated OPEN, but the hang tag on door said "be back at 2:00." Huh. Well, I figured maybe they only have 1 employee and they need lunch, so I went for coffee and came back 45 minutes later. Finally open, with 2 employees. So, lunch is more important to them than business. Upon entering Store, no greeting from Salesman who was discussing something with fellow employee. Following conversation, he made a phone call while I wandered around store. Huh. After 15 minutes this guy finally comes over to the bed I'm now sleeping on. Tell him exactly what I want, have cash in hand. "No discount for cash." Really? No. Same as credit card. I guess they keep the processing fee instead. Lowest price $1580 plus tax and a 2-week wait. Drove across bridge and purchased same mattress for $300 less at foamorder.com on Howard St, who does offer a cash discount. Lunch comes before business? No cash discount? Very weird customer service. So I call, give dimensions, thickness, density, etc. that I want. They come back with a price and a suggestion to upgrade to a higher density foam, I say fine, I'll take the upgrade, and may I place the order. Here is the crazy response: "No, we just can't take my order over the phone". I say, well, I understand that there are no returns and I'm willing to take that chance, at which point I am told again, "I'm sorry - we just can't help you without having you come down to the store within the next half hour". Bought a Convertabed love-seat there 3 years ago for $750. Opened up the packing and it filled the living room with the scent of formaldehyde for days. I'm not chemically sensitive but it was nasty! They assured me that was normal. After a few months the cushions became very soft and unsupportive. (I only weight 155) I recently looked around at prices on this model and found they go for $250-$299. They didn't even deliver it. We had to borrow a truck and pick it up ourselves. The same guy, whom I complained about before, was actually pleasant and helpful, and gave me a piece of scrap foam for 50 cents. Last time, he was charging a lot, just for the scraps. Go figure. I (urban) sc-ored an amazing multi-patterned sofa at Urban Ore. While it's actually in great shape, the down cushions were deteriorating and leaking madly; they were also fully sewn up with no easy opening, and I wasn't sure what to do. Googling brought up Famous Foam, and I swung by. Simply while browsing - and unzipping a few cushions - I was able to find and clarify what I wanted. Christine tuned in right away, suggested new cushion cases with zippers (d'oh, of course!!) to be made by the sewing team they use, and sent me off with a big bag of stuffing for the upcoming cases.
