Direct Mattress Outlet is my goto vendor for mattress purchases. We have purchased a king size for our main bedroom there, plus two smaller mattresses (a queen and a twin) for our auxiliary bedrooms. The staff is always helpful and they have a decent selection. Its helpful going into do a little research online about what general types of mattresses (spring, memory foam, hybrid, etc.) are out there so you can have an intelligent conversation going into a place like this. Otherwise you are just overwhelmed by options. Sometimes they will have Tempurpedics as cheap as $800. This is a fantastic deal. But its kind of hit or miss on the selection of these high-demand luxury mattresses. We usually get a mid-grade mattress and just elect to change it more often. The cheaper mattresses do tend to sag quicker, but its nice to do a change. read more

Looked online and got confused by all the models made by the same manufacturer at various outlets, since I know you can price shop mattresses.. He does have amazingly priced mattress, texted him and he said he has a tempur pedic for $600, which is insanely good. The only reason I'm leaving a neutral review is I didn't get to book an appointment with him. The owner was out of town at first, but he still responded to my text which I'm grateful of. Although he still didn't give me a time after he came back, so eventually I just decided to spend 3 grand buying a mattress from a store since I do need one immediately. I went shopping for a new mattresses at a big retailer but my first pick was way out of my budget. I texted Pete, told him what my favorites were, and an hour later we met up so I could test the options he pulled from his inventory. I ended up selecting the exact brand and model of my top choice except last year's version (perfect condition, wrapped in plastic with original tags), and paid about half the retail price. *** Buyer Beware **** I would not purchase a mattress from this person unless it is the absolute mattress I have in mind and chosen. I provided the three mattress choices from Mancini as he suggested and yet he deterred me to a completely different mattress. I paid over 1350 for defective mattress that he refuses to acknowledge replace it or return. The mattress is not even a month old and it's sinking. I weigh 135lbs and no way it should sink. This business is unethical probably unlicensed ( I did a lookup ) and no integrity. A mattress is such an important purchase. I've communicated this to Pete and he was illogical and downright unacceptable in terms of a business person. SAVE yourself the headache and purchase from another distributor. This one is plain con man with no license and probably picks up the mattress in Livermore where Mancini has a warehouse. Cut out this middleman and purchase one at Costco. I had purchased one for my place on Maui and ut was fantastic I probably paid under 600.00 fir a queen size mattress and it's fantastic. This is the manner this person who has no storefront any longer and most likely just up sells the mattress to you. As I write this review from my California King bed, I must say that this is by far the best experience I have had with a mattress company. Product Knowledge: Pete Gregory at the Direct Mattress Outlet was very knowledgeable and helpful. He helped me narrow down my options and gave me very good options and deals based on my budget. Payment: Cash, Zelle, and Venmo. Delivery: Due to Direct Mattress Outlet being local, I had the option of same-day delivery. For a bed at this time is very rare. Direct Mattress Outlet does have COVID 19 guidelines due to all of the current changes. I had manpower at the house so I just needed it delivered. Overall Rating: I would give Pete Gregory 5 out of 5 stars. I recently relocated to the Bay Area and desperately needed a mattress to sleep on for the next week until my furniture arrives. I don't even have my car yet so I was really limited in terms of options for securing said mattress and debated staying in a hotel for a high price instead. I texted Pete early in the morning and he responded right away saying he had a Purple that met my size requirements. He subsequently delivered the mattress to me for free later that same day and I slept in it that evening. I was exceptionally grateful and it's super comfy! I saved so much money on a brand new, still sealed in the bag Sealy mattress--about $1000!! It's my understanding that the process has changed slightly from before, in that Pete doesn't have a warehouse for you to visit anymore, and so I would suggest you go to a mattress store, find a few that you like, and then text him. He gets the mattresses from his distributor connections from when he used to have brick and mortar stores, so that's where the savings come from, from what I understand. Really nice guy, great savings, so quick, included tax and delivery in his pricing and saved me a bunch of money. His texting style is very to the point and blunt, just FYI! I got exactly what I wanted, delivered right away, at a fantastic price. My old memory foam mattress was sagging and messing up my back, so I found this place. Since Covid they're operating on a personal shopper model instead of a storefront--I called and gave a general idea of what I wanted, and Pete suggested a couple brands and models that might work for me. I looked 'em up online & checked some showrooms, then texted back the next morning with a list of faves. He was able to get me the top-of-the-line version of my first choice (a king size Simmons' Beautyrest Black spring mattress, in extra firm) for 60% below retail--$2,300 off!--and $500 cheaper than the economy model I'd been considering before. I signed off on the model & price in the morning and he was there by early afternoon, helped me carry the thing up the stairs & onto the bed frame, and offered to exchange it within 48 hrs if I wasn't completely satisfied. I woke up the next day feeling better than I have in weeks, and shouldn't have to buy another mattress for years to come. If you've never had a *really* nice bed before, it's 1000% worth treating yourself. I was in the market for new really good mattress. I have a bad back and I need a very specific level of firmness for my mattress. I called Pete and we set a time and met at his warehouse. I tried two mattresses and the second one is was the right one, wow! Pete gave me great price and we set a delivery date and time. On the date of delivery kept me informed by text of when he would arrive, which was nice. After the delivery and set up, the mattress was too high because of the height of the box spring. He had said at the time of purchase I should of gotten the shorter one but I had declined. Even though it was my mistake Pete immediately offered to switch out the the box spring for a shorter one. It was important to him that my new bed was correct for me. So we set a date and time and Pete brought the shorter box spring to exchange for the higher one. I really enjoyed the down to earth unpretentious service from Pete especially when so many things today have become unnecessarily trendy and expensive. If you are looking for a CHEAP mattress this is the place! I got a Tempur-pedic Cali King Mattress with delivery and taxes and all for under $1000! The same exact mattress at Mattress Discounters was $2250! What's better - I got the mattress delivered within 45 min to my house! So some stuff you need to know: 1) Bring Cash for the best deal and don't be afraid to negotiate or to wait and come back when the right mattress comes in. 2) Know exactly what you are looking for - this place is not a showroom; it is a warehouse. You can lie on the mattress, etc but you should check out the other high end retail mattress showrooms and get your "bed-ucation" elsewhere. Another good thing to do is next time you are at a hotel where the mattress is amazing write down the model and do some internet research. I came in with 3-4 models/brands. I knew what I want and I got it for a good deal. If you have no idea what you want this may not be the best place to visit first. 3) It's called dirt cheap mattress - and you get what you pay for. Some stuff there is not going to be the best quality, and there are no returns, special financing, etc. This is where you go for a deal. Cash and carry or pay on delivery. 4) Inspect the mattresses carefully - the spring mattresses are more likely to be damaged. I highly suggest buying memory foam model here as nothing can go wrong with those. 5) There is no warranty. But remember if you bought at big big place the mattress manufacturer will demand you ship it back to the factory, and after you pay that shipping your better just to buy a new one. Note: I wrote this review a couple of years ago for the old store. It still applies, as I still have the mattress and still sleep like a king. The quality mattress that I received at this place inspired me to join Yelp just to write a review. Somehow, I'd made it through more than three decades of life without having to purchase a mattress. I'd never even given this kind of purchase any thought...who sits around thinking about mattresses? I just knew that I wanted something fly and comfortable for my new bachelor life in Lake Merritt. So, after realizing how expensive mattresses truly are, I somehow found http://directmattressoutlet.com. The site had a clip from the Bay's CBS affiliate that was cosigning the place's mattresses (and also explaining why they're so inexpensive), so I was game. I called up the place, not knowing what I was looking for...just with my mattress budget in mind: "Um...what can I get for 300 bucks?" Fortunately, the gentleman didn't laugh at me. He worked with me, figured out what kind of mattress I was looking for (king size, really soft), and told me he had a deal on a California King Size Simmons Black Label mattress (I forgot what order those words are supposed to be in) for $450. Since the sides of it were dirty, it was at a discount from its normal $2,500. After hearing me stammer and hesitate, he suggested that I google the mattress. I did some research, and decided that I would take the chance. I put in a $100 deposit on it via Paypal and told him I'd hit him up later that week when I moved in. I called him that Friday night, and asked him if he could deliver it. He was over with it on his truck in less than 30 minutes, which was a pretty big achievement since he'd just had surgery on his eyes (after seeing the fresh surgical scars, I really had to resist the urge to tell him that the mattress could have waited). He charged $50 for delivery, and I had my fly mattress. That was three weeks ago. I won't get into a long philosophical rant here on Yelp, but let me just say that sleeping on a good mattress really can change one's life for the better. I mean, I sleep like I'm in a 5 star hotel room every night. This is an EXTREMELY comfortable mattress. I haven't consistently slept this soundly in all my life. I even have some loud upstairs neighbors (I swear these folks fall out of their bed at least twice every night/morning), but my mattress is so comfortable that I don't stay awake fuming about it. I even find myself daydreaming about going to bed while at work. The only problem is that, more than ever before, it requires a sheer force of determination to get out of my comfortable bed every morning. For that, I'm going to take a star away...ah, nevermind. I HIGHLY recommend this place. I'm actually afraid the guy's going to call me up and tell me that he made a mistake...he meant to sell me a $450 mattress and not this high quality one (I couldn't even tell the sides were dirty). I came here looking for a reasonably priced mattress for a unit I wanted to get listed on airbnb immediately. Pete made quickly accommodated my request and I was able to tour his showroom. Once inside I was pleased to find many comfortable mattresses at my price point, overwhelmed actually. Pete helped me narrow my search with his expertise in depth knowledge of his products as well as my needs. He advised me as to which type of mattresses most people found the most comfortable, which was what I needed since it was for an airbnb unit and I wouldn't personally be sleeping in it, as it turns out my personal taste which I was leaning toward, is not comfortable for most people. In the end I got a great mattress, box spring and bed frame delivered to me the same day. 2 moths later my airbnb reviews are full of people commenting on how comfortable the bed is. I've since purchased and had several other mattresses delivered, one even in a last minute frenzy, (text Pete at 9am mattress in my unit by 12pm. I'm so glad that these guys were able to help us out. Our mattress was getting old and we've been on the market for a new one for sometime. We'd be looking up different options to get a new mattress. Dirt Cheap Mattress at first seemed like a too good to be true option but it worked out for us really well! My husband and I met with the owner at his garage (No showroom, hence the price break). He was willing to meet with us with no notice which was very handy. We told him what sort of mattress we were looking for. Our old one was too soft and we needed something on the medium to firm side. The garage is kinda awesome because it was nothing more than a bunch of stacked mattresses but the owner knew exactly where to find what we needed and he knew his brands, their limitations, and other options to consider. The selection isn't the best. It's definitely something you need to go in with an open mind. But if you give them a call a head of time looking for a specific size/brand, they'll be able to give you an answer without having to make a fruitless trip. While they do take credit card, I recommend cash. We got an amazing mattress for $900 INCLUDING delivery. It was mid-week so he was able to get it to us within a few hours. Pete is awesome, I bought a mattress that I looked up online that would run in any store for well over $3000 and I purchased it for a fraction of the price. When I ran into Pete, I wondered if he was either a great businessman... or a terrible shyster! He's just a guy who runs a great business and works his tail off to provide bottom bargain pricing. I truly am thankful to have found an outlet for reasonably priced mattresses that not only I, but many friends, have taken advantage of. I took a friend to Direct Mattress Outlet today and Pete, the owner, remembered me from my purchase last month. Pete asked me if I remembered the gentleman that was acting erratic and stomping around in his cowboy boots,and I replied, "How could anyone forget that guy". Well it turns out that Jerry S, the gentleman's name has written several unflattering Yelp review. Pete was great, super responsive by text message and accommodating. I told him what I was looking for and he showed me a few different mattresses that he thought I might like. I initially loved the Tempurpedic and he delivered it to my apt and helped get it set up. After a couple nights it was clear that it really wasn't the right mattress for me. My back was starting to have issues and I wasn't sleeping well. Pete was kind enough to let me try out a few other mattresses and I settled on a Keetsa. He picked up the Temprupedic and installed the Keetsa for no additional charge, was super friendly throughout the whole process, and now I'm sleeping great without back issues. As a single female, I'm always a bit weary of having to do things like...buy a mattress...or auto repairs...but Pete made the whole experience simple and comfortable. I never felt like I was being pressured or treated unfairly. Pete runs a low budget operation which I assume is how he's able to keep the prices so low. If you're looking for a nice store where you have sales associates, 12 yr warranties, and all the mattresses are in perfect condition. . .then you should probably go to a store where you can pay for that experience. This place is shady to say the least. No address on website so you have to call. No sign on building. Used looking mattresses leaning on wall outside. Mattresses piled up in a room behind a roll up door mostly unwrapped. Pete was very evasive when my husband and I went to look at mattresses. He was curt, if not rude answering my polite inquiries. When my husband noticed UN wrapped mattresses and asked if the mattresses were used Pete got defensive and responded with "don't let that deter you". When we asked if he had a full size beautyrest he pointed at a twin size mattress and rudely said "no that one over there, look where I'm pointing". We decided we didn't want to give this guy our money and as we walked out he raised his voice at us and stated "You gotta start out positively". As if asking if a mattress is used is not an appropriate question. Right, practice what you preach man. If you're looking for verbal abuse and rude customer service this is your place. I normally don't write reviews but I was compelled to do so in this instance. I just moved back to the bay area and had given my mattress away before leaving. Upon returning I was in need of a new one and had been searching EVERYWHERE. A friend of mine told me to look in penny savers but that wasn't my cup of tea so back to the internet I went. During my search I came across Direct Mattress Outlet and decided to check their inventory. Upon reviewing their site I saw a video of a Chron 4 special where they did a piece on the owner, Pete and in his interview he spoke about how he got started selling mattresses. Based on Chron 4's interview with Pete I decided to give him a call. I explained to him my need and what I had to work with financially and he was confident that he could get me what I need and save me a ton of money in the process so I made an appointment for the next day. I decided to bring my dad with me and upon our arrival there was a SEA of mattresses. He asked me a few questions about what I was looking for and found several California King mattresses for me to try out. To my surprise, the second mattress that he pulled out was a winner. I was impressed with Pete's knowledge about his inventory and the benefits of each particular mattress. He was very personable and didn't try to up-sell me another mattress to ensure a better profit; he promised to stay within my budget and give me a great mattress in return and he lived up to his word. In addition to that he delivered the mattress to San Francisco for next to nothing and being a woman on a budget I was appreciative of that. Why would anyone pay retail for a mattress when Pete G. will "fit" you with EXACTLY what you're looking for...and DELIVER it within a day...for less than half the price!? Maybe you sleep better with a genuine "Beautyrest Black" or "Tempurpedic" label under the mattress pad...A la princess and the pea? Fair enough. Maybe you're afraid getting stuck with a lemon? I was. It happens. And it happened to me with a mattress I bought from Pete G!! But fear not, there is a happy ending: Bought a top of the line, ultra firm, king, spring mattress in July and slept alone very comfortably on it 3 or 4 times ( I'm only in town part time) . Over Labor Day, husband & I came to spend long weekend, shared bed for the first time and found the untested side of the mattress had a huge lump and subsequent rut. For the 1-2 star reviews- I don't know what you're saying. There are various mattress warehouses - they get mattresses from dealers as they can, and never offer warranties. This allows them to keep prices low. A 1-2 star review should be comparing a mattress warehouse to another mattress warehouse and saying what was so bad about it. It's so weird to me that people would be surprised a warehouse preferred cash, or that it's in (gasp) a warehouse-like area, or that there isn't a warranty guarantee (though it seems like most bad reviews/problems have been resolved, or refunds were offered, as you can see per the responses/other reviews) So if you're reading this, remember, you're not going to sleep train to get sold really expensive mattresses with 3 year warranties for $2000. You're going to a mattress warehouse to get what is available for between 25-50% of that cost. I got a King size mattress that I like, latex top with memory foam base, bed frame, and 2 flexible box springs along with delivery from Pete, at what I felt is a great price (Less than $700). He gave me options, talked a lot about what I thought I wanted, etc...I looked on amazon because I was curious about the box springs (never heard of them), and saw the box spring system that I was given was selling for $150 more than I paid for the entire mattress + box springs + Frame. That's the box springs alone! Honestly, I can't recommend this place enough. I have two friends looking for mattresses and the works, and I will send them to Pete. All the good things everybody is writing on here are true - Great guy, great prices, great mattresses. Go here for your bedding needs. I thought buying bedding was going to kill my weekend and I'd have a weird delivery in the middle of a Wednesday and work it around work and it'd be 2 weeks from now etc.... We loaded it up. An hour later he showed up to my house. Wow. To get my entire new bed setup a few hours at a great price? Awesome. Thanks, Pete. My mattress is great and so comfortable! It was delivered a day late so they gave me a much nicer mattress than I originally chose, free of charge. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a new, inexpensive mattress! read more
