This was one of the best purchasing experiences we have ever had. From beginning to end the staff and Noor were helpful, knowledgeable, kind, accommodating; the rugs are beautiful works of art and history. They brought multiple rugs to our home and provided excellent advice on choice and size and worked with us on price. Highly recommend. read more

We loved our first rug from Noor and Sons so much we decided we needed to go back for a second. These are utilitarian, beautiful, unique pieces of art. And--we can confidently say, now that we've had our first for almost two years--these rugs are also very durable! They hide dirt amazingly well, disguise spills, and so far we don't see any wear on our first rug despite it being in a high traffic area. I'm sure these rugs will show their age over time, but that will only add to their appeal. We also love the rug pads Noor and Sons use. They have just the right amount of give underfoot and do not slide at all on our wood, and now linoleum, floors. The custom cut rug pads alone lend so much value to shopping with Noor and Sons. The quality of the first rug has made us confident to go for a second, this time for the kitchen. We tried out nine different rugs at home in a variety of sizes and colors. Noor helped us pick out the rug we ultimately choose and kept us within budget. The rug lends a lot of warmth to our otherwise no-frills apartment kitchen. The size is also super versatile and we think it will look great wherever we move next. read more

Our 8'x10' wool living room rug had been heavily soiled by years of traffic over a portion of the rug. Noor & Sons arranged for pick-up and delivery and washed the rug. The rug was returned in new condition (even better-than-new). All traces of traffic grime were gone, and the rug was uniformly clean across its entire surface. The richness and brilliance of the colors were completely restored. Very fast service too. We will be returning with all our remaining rugs for cleaning. It really is like getting a new rug for our home for the price of cleaning - such a bargain! read more

I had been looking for a beautiful rug for my new home for several months. I finally ended up buying something online that didn't look anything like the photo. What I found at Noor and Sons Rug Gallery is that beautiful rug and so much more: exceptionally attentive customer service and depth of expertise. Buying a rug from Noor and Sons is a heartfelt experience of meaning (supporting Afghani artisans), care (he delivered my rug to me on a Sunday afternoon) and competence (of design, color and style). I recommend them highly...in fact I have been to everyone I know! read more

Class and customer service! I had called several shipping places about sending a large rug to the east coast - no one would help me. I called Noor & Sons, Kirby picked up the phone, I told him my problem, and he told me to come over and his crew would wrap it for free, which they did perfectly (with a suggested gratuity). Now that's what I call good business! I also observed that the rugs were gorgeous (mostly from northern Afghanistan), and will definitely be making a trip over there if I'm ever in need of a beautiful rug. Thank you, Kirby! read more

My wife and I bought a rug recently from Noor & Sons and we couldn't have had a better experience. Our 20 year old living room rug had finally died and we had spent a great deal of time looking for a replacement online and at local stores before we met Noor Khan and his staff at his store in north Berkeley. After listening to our ideas and limitations and seeing photos of our room, Noor made a number of suggestions and personally brought two rugs to our house to determine which worked best. We picked one and we will now be asking Noor & Sons to clean two older rugs. In sum, great service and great product at a reasonable price. Noor & Sons has our highest recommendation. read more

Noor & Sons Rug Gallery - Rugs Near Me - Berkeley, California

Dear Yelpers, For Purchase and maintenance of your handmade and machine made wool rugs I strongly recommend Noor and Sons at the top of Solano Ave in Berkeley. They cleaned a rug I had acquired and brought to them. We looked at the rug before and after, identifying some spots that needed special attention. Viewing it after the cleaning it is startlingly bright, it's colors clear and consistent. Noor Kahn is very knowledgeable about rugs and has been able to give me a backstory on several rugs I have brought to him for cleaning. Needless to say he has a huge inventory of very beautiful handmade rugs including many he has designed himself. read more

Saw the Yelp ratings on this local business and popped in to see what they had. Noor was extremely helpful and educated us on what to look for when buying handmade rugs and how to care for them. After describing the color scheme in our LR, he immediately knew which rugs to show. When conflicted with which one to choose, he let us take a couple home to see which one would work best. Pros Noor was very personable, patient, and showed us numerous rugs He DID NOT try to pressure us into a purchase Pleasant staff Rugs GALORE and beautifully made Easy parking (Solano Avenue) Side note: the rugs are beautiful but I felt guilty stepping on them. read more

Noor did an great job cleaning my antique rugs after my poor dying cat peed and vomited all over them. The rugs showed no traces of what they'd been through. He and his sons were a pleasure to do business with. read more

Excellent service and wonderful place to get rugs or rug services. We had visited in hopes to find the perfect Gabbeh rug awhile back, but they didn't have any that striked our fancy. The owner so kindly referred us to many other local shops that could possibly help us find our rug. And we found it in Adib's in Walnut Creek. We came back to Noor & Sons to get a replacement rug pad and he had it all ready for us after a quick call with our rug size. We highly recommend this place for his wonderful demeanor, extensive knowledge and beautiful selection. Go check it out if you are shopping for a rug! read more

I just bought my second rug from Noor & Sons and I'm so happy with it. Noor is so easy to work with, and he has his entire inventory in his head so when you ask for a certain color or style he knows just what might be the right rug for you. I brought home four rugs to try out and one of them was just right. Noor works directly with artisans in Afghanistan and elsewhere to make rugs in diverse styles and sizes, all using natural dyes and high-quality wool. I've also had them clean my rugs, and they do an excellent job. I only wish I had more space for more beautiful rugs! read more

By far the best experience I have had in a rug store! I recently bought a new home and needed to purchase several rugs. After a few head spinning experiences at other stores, I found Noor & Sons. The store is beautiful, the service is exceptional and the inventory is fairly vast - don't let the seemingly small store fool you; they pack a lot of great product in and make it such a pleasure to review. They had so many beautiful rugs that it was hard to choose. NO PROBLEM; they offered to bring a few to my home (at my convenience, no less) and, once here, never pressured me to buy. Noor has such a good eye, however, that, of the six large rugs he brought for one room, I was torn between 5 of them! That's how well he listened! He was so generous with his knowledge and design sensibilities and my home looks better for having his help! In total, I purchased 5 rugs over a couple of months and I never felt pressured or that my equivocation in making up my mind was irritating to Noor or his staff. The prices were very fair and, here's the great part about that: they were fair right off the bat with no need to haggle about it. I have already referred several friends and, as a realtor, I would not hesitate to refer clients to this great store where I know they ill be treated so well. Back to the inventory - if you are tired of seeing the same old rugs, Noor has a big selection of bright, fresher designs. I know the rugs I purchased will last forever. I almost wish they wouldn't so I could go buy more from them! read more

We finally found our dream rug after a year of search and couldn't be happier! It was a pleasure working with Noor. We were impressed by his knowledge and passion. It was clear he takes a lot of pride in the quality of his rugs. He knew exactly what we were looking for and wasn't pushy. We are glad to support local business and will definitely be referring friends and family. read more

Pretty amazing in many ways... here are just a few: Noor is very knowledgable, he is warm, helpful, personable, kind and never pushy... he is the real thing, coming from the region of the world - Afghanistan, Turkmenistan - where rugs are woven into their history ... His prices are very reasonable ... his inventory plenty full . I took a small old rug that i love and thought it has had its days ..he knew exactly where it came from and took it in to wash it... When i came back it was not only clean, he repaired a tear and showed me how to repair another part... all for $35 ... i walked out very happy...thank you read more

We (husband, daughter and I) had such a fantastic experience at Noor that I wished I had a mansion -- more rooms, more rugs! The ones we bought have subtle gradations of color and charming patterns of animals and trees. They are sturdy, feel good on bare feet, and perfectly cleanable in case of pet accidents (we have three dogs). Other reviewers have praised Noor's service quality. I agree 100% -- it's top-notch. He brought the rugs to our house for an "audition" and his expertise helped us make perfect choices. At no point was there any hurry or pressure to buy. We found Noor's prices very reasonable considering their beauty and sturdiness ( they will literally last for generations) The cherry on top of the cake? After learning we were new to the neighborhood, Noor gifted us with a rug -- a friendly, warm and sincere welcome that moved us to tears. Lesson learned: Carpets can be magic even if they don't fly. read more

Yet another update to my 2014 rave review of the incomparable Noor & Sons: in addition to having a stunning collection of wonderful rugs, along with encyclopedic knowledge of oriental rugs in general, and maintaining an outstanding--I mean UNUSUALLY great--level of service, Noor is simply a prince among men. He's consistently gone way out of his way to be helpful as well as remarkably generous. Manager Kirby is also reliably helpful. If you haven't tried out Noor & Sons . . . do. At your earliest convenience. Think of it a a museum trip complete with docent tour and the opportunity to buy the artworks! read more

We found the perfect rug for our dining room at Noor and Sons Rug Gallery. Noor practically hand-picked our rug with our color scheme, style and most importantly; budget in mind. Excellent customer service and the patience of a saint! read more

Excellent. I can't say enough good things about this company; they were prompt, polite, professional, and provided an excellent service with full disclosure on risks and costs. I originally went in to have my expensive Persian carpets cleaned, having not cleaned them since I got them during deployment to the Middle East. They delivered my carpets on time, on budget, and I was so happy with their service that I went back and had them cut carpet pads for all the rugs. They even packaged everything so I could just throw them onto the moving truck and have them protected for the move. Definitely would recommend their service to anyone! read more

Noor & Sons Rug Gallery provided one of the best buying experiences I've had although I had initially been worried about a possibly high-pressure atmosphere in a shop with gorgeous rugs hanging everywhere. I'd been told they had, weekly, an item outside that would be on special sale and, walking by, I saw that week's special and thought that it would be almost ideal for the wall hanging I needed to absorb sound from a baby grand piano that had to be against a corner wall (which acts as a amplifier of sound, with more bass accentuated). However, it was long -- more a runner rug -- and I would have wanted it had it been shorter and if I could get another short one like it, that I could hang alongside it. Noor said if that's what I wanted, they could cut it and make two finished pieces from it. I then told him I'd first need to get some people who are able to move an 800-lb piano enough to work in that area before I could have them come to put up the rugs. He recommended that Noor & Sons just move that heavy piano while installing the rug. When I asked how much this would cost in labor, he said this would be an included service when purchasing the rug. The 'restoration' type work of making two separate pieces from that rug would also be included in the cost shown on the sales tag. He wasn't kidding. I decided to also use, for the other wall, a 3' x 5' wool rug I'd bought in southeastern Turkey in 2004 but I needed it thoroughly cleaned first. After checking prices in the bay area for careful cleaning of rugs of this type (fragile), I saw that Noor's price was very reasonable. So, I went with this plan after hearing some of his family's history and realizing the depth of knowledge he has and the amazing service he was offering. I really liked his low-key manner. He was able to identify the regional area I was in when I bought the older rug 11 years ago and also which tribe had made it. I took my time deciding, though, and he left me alone to think about it. No pressure. Noor is a real gentleman and was very helpful when delivering the rugs. His hanging of the rugs, after moving the 800-lb piano (alone!) was done well and all in all, he is just excellent to work with. He kept in good touch via email while customizing my new rug and during thorough cleaning of the old one and hung both of them on the walls for me. I did want to pay him something for all that added work (for a relatively inexpensive rug after special discount), but he wouldn't accept any additional money. Mainly, top-notch service and an excellent buying experience. Terrific store. read more

This place was pretty much a dream come true! I had been looking for a 4 X 6 Turkish or Afghani rug of a certain color and price range for almost a year. Either I'd see what I liked at an outrageous price, or I'd see lesser rugs that I could afford. Then I walked in here, already assuming that the beautiful corner location of the store would mean inflated prices. I couldn't have been wronger! I found the perfect red and black rug for under $400 with the kindest, zero pressure sales help. I took the rug home on trial and it was perfect. Came back the next day to pay and also got a free rug mat. I can't recommend this store enough. I'll be back! read more

Noor, Kirby, and Noor's sons delivered exceptional service through the purchase of two beautiful rugs for my home. We appreciate the opportunity to sample multiple rugs in our home and to see which one fits best. It has been a treat to enjoy fantastic artistry in many variations. A visit to Noor & Sons Rug Gallery is a sumptuous experience of color, texture, and smell; we love having fine rugs in our home. We have had such a positive experience with Noor and Sons. Our pre-1900's Persian rug was heavily damaged by our dog several years ago. We had many quotes for getting it fixed and all were completely out of our price range. Noor suggested, if we didn't mind the rug traveling that he could have it fixed in Turkey, and for half the price. So off it went and 6 months later.... it looks amazing! Even better than when I first purchased it! The rug was actually repaired in Pakistan and it is astounding what an incredible job they did. The colors and craftsmanship are of such a high quality, we just can't believe how beautifully they matched the colors and materials. We are thrilled to have it back in the living room and so thankful that Noor could find a workable and affordable solution for us. Thanks Noor, you have our heartfelt thanks. read more

Their service is fantastic, we had several rugs cleaned and repaired they all came out much better than hoped for.

Highly unethical. Please please beware. They destroyed a $5,000 rug they were supposed to clean and didn't take any responsibility, made me pay for the cleaning and didn't even offer to try again. Truly the absolute worst experience I have ever had as a consumer of a service. read more

Stay far, far, away from this dishonorable business. Brought in a very expensive rug to be cleaned. We were assured it would be no problem. Not only was it not cleaned, came back in much worse shape and wouldn't release the rug unless we paid full price for the cleaning. On top of this, they were rude and indignant. To add insult to injury, their comments below are untrue!!!! Please be warned, dishonest and unreliable!!!!!!!! read more

An amazingly wonderful rug rescue! Expensive, and worth every cent. I lost custody of my Chinese silk rug; when it came back to me 25 years later, it had been contaminated with dog feces and urine, and then stored uncleaned for several years in a storage shed. Ugh! The staff examined the rug carefully, then explained that they might not be able to get all the stains out, but could remove the odor. I chose the more expensive cleaning process. The first time they cleaned it, they called and said they hadn't been able to remove all the staining and wanted to try again. I OK'd the second cleaning. A couple of weeks later, I have my rug back. The dragons look as if they've had some adventures, but the color is good, the design is clear and as lovely as ever, and there's no odor at all. I really thought I'd have to throw the rug away. I'm very, very pleased and highly recommend Noor and Sons for cleaning. read more

I am so happy I finally walked into this place. I was greeted politely after walking in and was offered help to see the rugs without being pressured. I was thinking of replacing a synthetic persian style rug in my living room that I bought online and have regretted ever since. I've wanted to find a Kilim rug for a long time and assumed I wouldn't be able to afford one from one a shop like this. The 50% off sale got me through the door to look at the Kilim rugs and I was thrilled to take home a beautiful 7'x10' Kilim style rug for around $450, which I knew from my previous looking around online to be an excellent price. I was unhurriedly shown several rugs, and based on my feedback the owner also selected some additional rugs to show me and it was the last one he selected that was the winner. read more

Buying handmade rugs is a major investment, so I want to go to a local, honest, reputable business. I have bought two beautiful handmade rugs from Noor in the last couple of years, and I am really happy with my purchases. For my second rug, I needed a large rug of a very specific size and color scheme. I used their online gallery and found a rug that I thought might work. Kirby and a young man (one of Noor's sons I think) brought the rug over to my house and the rug worked beautifully for the room! Noor, Kirby and other staff are always warm, courteous and helpful, even when I just stop by to browse. I highly recommend the store. read more

Noor's took a carpet in for cleaning (Tibetan, sculpted, pale, fairly thick pile, 9x12), and rather than returning on the expected date, expressed dissatisfaction with the result , and with my assent continued to pass the object through several hands till it eventually arrived with subtle discolorations vanished, in excellent, even, dry condition. No question they made a loss on the task, but were determined to satisfy. In addition, on delivery (that they accomplish conveniently in the evening), they laid the carpet under a heavy grand piano, though i had assured them i was expecting to manage this laborious task myself. Conscientious and helpful: a very good impression. read more

For ten years Noor & Sons served the local community with love & connection, so I was dismayed to find another rug company move in 3 doors away with elaborate signage and window displays. Here's 5 reasons why I will stick with Noor: 1) Beautiful products at affordable prices. 2) Excellent customer service--Noor remembered my house and all of the houses on my block and recommends and advises, accordingly. He drops a few rugs off so you can see what works at different times of the day, then picks up all but your decision. 3) He knows what he's doing - Noor has been dying rug fibers since he was 5 years old. He sources his rugs from families in his village and makes sure he knows exactly where his rugs come from and what they are made of. I appreciate not participating in exploitation. 4) Family. The "& Sons" part is important. Noor takes time to get to know your family and introduces you to his. 5) Community. From the store's one-year birthday party, Noor has connected neighbors and friends across north Berkeley. He generously donated to my local nonprofit and he seems to know everyone. He makes our neighborhood a better place. I've purchased 8 rugs from Noor over the last decade and plan to purchase more as the needs of my home change. I will be a loyal customer because people like Noor are part of what makes Berkeley special. read more

Telephone quotes are meaningless! I needed to have an oriental carpet repaired and called several places for quotes. Others quoted approx. $300; Noor & Sons quoted $75 to clean the rug & $100 to repair it. I asked them again to be sure since their quote was so much less than the others. "Everything for way less than $200" they said. When I took the rug in, the actual cost estimate was $75 to clean the rug and $300 to repair. 3 times the original estimate. This seems like a classic bait-and-switch tactic. Needless to say they didn't get my business and won't be getting any business in the future. I read their response & it is compltely untrue. The person who wrote the review is not even the person I spoke with on the phone. Perhaps the telephone quote was a simple mistake, but when they lie about the interaction, just run away. read more
