IR has a very good inventory of tribal rugs, pile carpets, new and used, vintage and antique. It's one of the best collections on the west coast. I had my Room and Board wool rug cleaned at Istanbul Rug. They really understand how to clean rugs and restore. They are very friendly, and conscientious. One note, they pick up on Friday's, so if you drop off on Saturday, it might take a week longer than you are thinking. Last Sunday we walked into Istanbul Rugs to be met by an array of wonderful rugs. After 30 minutes we'd be shown many beautiful rugs with our favourites laid out on the floor in front of us. We narrowed it down to our favourite two and they kindly brought them to our house to see which one worked best, nothing seemed to much for them to accommodate. One of those rugs now takes pride of place in the living room of our new home. Istanbul Rug has become my "go to" place for middle eastern rugs. We just bought 3! What makes them so good? Esref and his staff provide excellent customer service - taking time to understand what the customer is looking, pulling out as many rugs as it takes, and allowing the rugs to be taken home and viewed in the space. For me, Esref and his staff brought over several rugs to my house, laid them out, and moved them around. Then, after negotiating for price, they all returned to lay them out and move our old rugs. That is just the service part. The store is big, well organized, and most important, has a varied selection of new and old rugs. We bought 2 old Persian Sarouk rugs (~9X12 circa 1890 and 1920s) that go perfectly in our vintage 1920s house. We also bought a new small runner made by Afghan immigrants in traditional style blends perfectly. All the rugs are lovely.
