Have gone here twice since they have opened. Good food and wine, and they're slowly working out the kinks from opening. Staff is friendly and accommodative. The only complaint is that they put ketchup on the patatas bravas instead of the aioli. Other than that, it's a small plates place with prices reflective of the quality of food you're getting. read more

Defintely one of the more slept on restaurants on Cortelyou. I've been here for happy hour and for brunch and both were great! They put a lot of time and thought into their food. Every ingredient feels purposeful and the portions are just enough. I recommend the Basque and Andalusia brunch options. You can't go wrong! read more

Went to Manchengo for the first time with my husband and I gotta admit I was a bit skeptical about eating at a tapas bar fearing that the choices were limited. I was pleasantly surprised and noted various options such as the coca Serrano (found in flatbreads.) I have to tell you I enjoyed each bite and washed it down with a glass of moscat! Staff was friendly and I received my entire order in a time span of 20 minutes! Perfect spot if you want a quick bite before a movie. read more

Giving it 2 stars in the hopes that it eventually irons out the kinks. The first time I went, 1/2 the food on the menu wasn't available. The second time I went, half the food I ordered was terrible. Will keep an eye on this place to see if reviews improve. Maybe I'll go back. read more

One of the best on Cortelyou! Their happy hour is worth the trip! Sangria is great and tapas are reasonably portioned!

Passed and saw this new Place on Cortelyou Road and decided to come back to try it. Great decision. The place wasn't pack, which was ok for a late Sunday night. The food was really great. The cojonudo was really tasty and the Pulpo A La Gallego was grilled perfectly and tasted excellent. The only thing that I didn't really dig was the amount of oil that accompanied the pulpo. There is a decent wine list, which makes the dining more enjoyable. Be aware that this place is cash only. read more

Just ok. Cheese plate and sangria quite good. Grilled shrimp tasted like lighter fluid and potato dish just heavy and greasy. Seemed understaffed for a Saturday night. read more

I celebrated my birthday at Manchego this past Saturday. I live a block away and have always passed by it but had never really gone in. I wanted to do something low key so asked if I could make a reservation at the beginning of August. Was told it really wasn't something they did per se, but was told to come nearer to my birthday and speak with them. I being the procrastinator that I am, after being pushed by my friends, went back this past Wednesday and spoke with a bartender and a wonderful server named Renanzo who assured me that we would be able to have a table for the 10 or so people I said I invited on Saturday just be sure to check in on Friday so he would hold the tables for Saturday. He actually contacted me and reminded me. We show up on Saturday at 7:30 and as an added bonus there was a guitar player and a flamenco dancer. Of course it wasn't the 10 I said because more of my friends, family and children showed up than expected. Renanzo and the other staff did not flinch but immediately set to work and set up the space to accommodate all. In total I had a total of 30 or so people come thru that night. The food was EXCELLENT and the drinks were well made. Kudos to the staff for their graciousness. Oh and I enjoyed my birthday cupcake. I am a big believer in supporting the small businesses of my neighborhood. This is one well worth the support read more

Love this place, nice staff, good food, not sure why it's at 3 stars, but I've been here at least a dozen times and really like it!

Was excited to try this place and went tonight. It was not overly crowded, but busy. I love the ambiance and decor! Also love that it's not crazy loud and you can actually enjoy conversation. The food was excellent and we really enjoyed the wine as well. Service was good but kitchen is very slow. Cash only for now. It's a lovely addition to the neighborhood. We will definitely be back! read more

Good service, good food, good ambience. Very nice. Relaxing restaurant. PS.: They have amazing Spanish wines read more

Though I walk by Manchego every day on my way home from the subway, I didn't get a chance to try them until yesterday. I'm going to guess that some of the earlier reviews about poor service may be related to the fact that the restaurant is very new and still working everything out. Our experience was absolutely lovely. Very attentive service, a server who helped us pick some great wines we might not have tried, and delicious food. I did ask the manager/owner about the reports of bad service, and she said one thing people weren't too keen on yet is that the chef of the place is VERY meticulous about the food, and works mostly alone. So he's putting out one dish at a time. Which works great on a slowish early Saturday evening like when we were there, but not so much when it's a busy Friday night. Good to know. :) I will definitely make repeat visits here. It's a charming place, and a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

This is our 4th time here. We hadn't been here in awhile. Their menu has expanded to main dishes. Our bartender was super friendly & generous. We had the grilled Bronzino & oxen chop! The grilled Bronzino was delicious. The oxen chop was okay, a little overdone, not quite medium. The Big Eye Tuna ceviche was excellent; however, not really Spanish more like Latin American. The bacalao croquetas we're yummy but pricey for only 4 croquettes. The selection of tapas are on point. I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't for the price! read more

One star for the space and live music, food was lack luster. The server was non existent had to go up to the bar several times to get his attention and when the check came was over charged by 2 wine's. This will be the only time I will ever go here. read more

So excited for another new restaurant in the neighborhood, and Manchego delivered! We ordered several tapas to share, and everything was scrumptious. The seafood was very fresh - we had mussels (healthy portion size), bacalao (also well-portioned), and shrimp al ajillo (not so much, only 4 shrimp!) - and brussels sprouts with bacon always hits the spot. We were the first to arrive for dinner but our countertop wasn't cleaned well, and overall the menu was a bit overpriced. Otherwise this would be a five star review. We'll be back, but not too often due to the $100 tab! Also it's cash only for now. read more

If I could give this restaurant 0 stars I would. Horrible cocktails. All the food has mayo slathered on it. So much money spent for such little quality. Hard pass, never again. read more

I'm here with my husband on a Saturday night and they have a wonderful Flamenco guitarist/singer and a dancer. The food is fantastic and the ambience is really special. What a special evening and I can't believe this place is just down the road from my home! What a great neighborhood spot! read more

Don't be seduced by the high end décor! If the owners had placed alittle more focus on the food instead of the décor I would have given them two thumbs up. As it stands, it seems like those thumbs were on my plate. This is not tapas and there isn't the hint of Spanish life in this place. No music, waitresses that don't know the food (and neither does their chef.) The cod tasted like a wet sponge with burned garlic and the other dish four sad looking defrosted shrimp in a garlic sauce. Yuk! What accounts for those prices? Certainly not the quality of the food. No non-alcoholic drinks other than soda and juice. Why? No ice tea in August? The desserts reflect their no thought of food... rich chocolate volcano?? Yuk! A nice sorbet would have done the trick. read more

Really excellent. It's time this place was properly discovered. Four of us went here last night. 2 of us are vegetarians and the other 2 are omnivores. We elected for an all vegetarian dinner. We worked our way through about 10 plates and 2 bottles of excellent Spanish wine. The spinach croquettes were phenomenal. The service was gracious and attentive. All in all a lovely experience. Highly recommended. read more

The food was tasty but over priced for tapas-they were charging entree prices for pretty tiny portions.

Saturday about 4. Good service, delicious food. I am a foodie. Portions for entrees were small, with no sides included...small piece of delicious codfish came with salad. Shrimps came with a small piece of toasted bread..we ordered the Brussels sprouts. They were delicious.. Will go back...4 stars for small portions. 5+ for food. We had calamari from tapas menu..Delicious! read more

The food is always delicious! Very consistent in quality! Nina is a great server - she knows a ton about wine. Get the: mushroom flatbread, grilled octopus, and Brussels sprouts with bacon. Also anything with manchego cheese, obvs. read more

I'd heard portions were small, and ended up overordering. Really great place, wonderful server, and no complaints whatsoever. I'll be back for the brussels sprouts, octopus, cheese, lamb sliders and the nice atmosphere. read more

Manchego is such a nice space for friendly after work happy hours and dates. Small, intimate and has great happy hour deals (wine, beer and small plates) from 5-7. I recommend the cheese and ham croquettes! read more

Probably my new favorite restaurant in the neighborhood, and I've lived here for over 15 years! First off I will admit like many other reviews on here, they are pricey for the amount of food they offer, and could possibly bring In more customers if they lowered the prices by even a dollar or two. HOWEVER, they have Some of the best Sangria I've ever had (and I'm Spanish myself), their steak with a delicious green sauce was great! But most of all they have some of the BEST fries I have ever had; deliciously battered with a hint of spice and spicy ketchup, honestly so so good! The atmosphere is modern and hip but not pretentious. Every detail from the wine bottle lights behind the bar to the beautiful exposed brick wall make it a perfect place for a relaxing night or to bring friends. Went in thinking it would be an overly hipster place and was completely wrong. Trust me when I say you should try this place out, especially for Happy Hour, I'm so happy I did read more

While the food was ok and I really liked the ambiance, the service really caused me to regret going here. My wife and I ordered four dishes and assumed, being a tapas place, they would bring one or two out at a time to let us enjoy the food at a leisurely pace. Instead we waited a while for the first dish and then they brought out all four at the same time. It was ridiculous because we had to use an empty table next to us to put the fourth dish and by the time we got to the steak, it had gone cold. Its really a shame because I really wanted to like this place, but its just not very fun to eat tapas when its all being thrown at you at once. read more

Food is delicious and prices can't be beat during their happy hour special. The sangrias were good. The steak and fries were phenomenal. So was the calamari and I don't even like calamari! We also got these fried cheese balls. They were alright, too much of their garlic sauce which they seem to put on everything. The service was also excellent. Highly recommend. read more

My boyfriend and I went after 9pm last night and there were people at the bar and at a few tables, but it wasn't crowded. The service was quite good and the waiter were attentive. We ordered a pitcher of red sangria, patatas bravas, bacon wrapped dates and the ham croquets. The patatas bravas were ok, nothing ground breaking, but the dates and the ham croquets were really great. I frequent an awesome spanish tapas place in the city and the croquets here are much better and the ones in the city are very good. The red sangria was ok- not overly sweet, which is great, but something was missing, maybe more fruit and less ice. The restaurant has nice ambiance and the prices weren't too bad, but may be too much for the neighborhood. The place has potential and could be really good if they add happy hour specials and start taking credit cards. Will definitely give it another go. read more

An excellent place. We, a party of four, shared two bottles of red wine and a lot of small plates which were wonderful. The service is friendly, and the ceiling is decorated with local branches. Check it out. read more
