Excellent prices even for protein plates made us think they would be much smaller sizes. Service was excellent and quick. The only thing I would change was with this being a fusion restaurant the croquetas weren't the typical style I like for tapas, but if you like a drier crunchier potato style you might like them. The Paloma drink was delicious and they were able to add a Tajin rim that I asked for so make sure to ask because they have it just not on the menu! Manchego was recommended by a local as a nice place to grab a bite. My daughter and I walked in and immediately liked the cozy ambience complete with festive holiday lights. The staff were great - friendly and attentive. We were seated at a table and given the regular menu along with a happy hour menu that we didn't even ask for. If I am going to a place for happy hour, I almost always have to ask for that menu so I was impressed. My daughter and I are huge fans of Spain having been there together a couple times in recent years. We decided to get some things we have had many times before and have even made myself: Patatas Bravas, Gambas Al Ajillo, and Pan con Tomate. We also ordered a couple red sangrias from the happy hour menu. We were served very quickly! Everything came out hot and fresh. We both were struck by how small the serving was of the Pan con Tomate - one smallish piece of grilled bread cut into two pieces. But the taste was on point. The Patatas Bravas were hot and tasty and delivered as a normal sized serving. The Gambas al Ajillo did not taste like the dish we are familiar with but the shrimps were larger than expected and the sauce had a good taste. It only came with one piece of grilled bread so we ordered more so we could have some to dip in the sauce. One piece of bread was not nearly enough. The sangrias were not the best that we've had but at $7 each, they were good enough! Overall, we are happy we went and would go there again. read more

When you find a good place! It's important to share it! So that's exactly what I'm going to do. Share this really good find. This restaurant is a nice blend of cultures. I went there particularly for the ramen but they have wonderful Spanish tapa plates. The ambiance is also very cool. Wood tones everywhere with interesting art on the wall. It creates a casual but warm and romantic vibe when you enter. The services usually very good. Since this is my third time there (and multiple delivery times), I did experience one time or service was a bit on the slow side. However I wasn't in a rush and had an opportunity to enjoy a wonderful meal. Most noteworthy on the menu for me were the Spanish spaghetti that had wonderful seafood. Everything tasted fresh with a healthy portion. Also the Tori Shio Ramen is delicious. I did have it one time and it was slightly overly salty but every other time that I've ordered it it has been sublime. While I enjoyed the drinks that I ordered they were a bit on the suite, light side making them taste more like juice than anything else. I had the strawberry basil Margarita and the caipirinha. Manchego Koko had been on my list for about a year (as it's the only Spanish tapas spot nearby that I know of) and I finally got to try it with two friends last week. We started with a charcuterie board that came with a mix of cheeses, meats, olives, and grapes. For tapas, we ordered dates wrapped in bacon, octopus, and chorizo, and paired all that with a pitcher of red sangria. My favorite was definitely the octopus, which was served on top of chickpeas and potatoes. The octopus was really tender and flavorful and it was some of the best octopus I've ever had. They played Reggaeton when we first went in. And at that moment, I was nervous because I didn't know what they wanted to be- Spanish restaurant or Caribbean. Located on Cortelyou Rd, Manchego's menu has all the bells and whistles of a Spanish restaurant: Tapas, Pinxtos, Desserts, down to the Sangria. Style is cozy but a bit odd- but hey...it works for them. Service was incredibly nice and between our 6 Tapas and the ones I could pick from hubs', they were very good. The young gentleman was so nice, especially when I asked about any dairy in any of my dishes. Which he in turn, came back to remind me of aioli in my Patatas Brava. Thank you. Hubs enjoyed his Chorizo and Manchego slices. Octopus could've been a smidgeon softer- but it was edible. The same way lighting to me is everything- so is Music- and it'll make or break the vibe. Manchego's playlist was so stuck in the 90's and 2000s it was just bad man. And while I popped some moves with Mr. Saxobeat back in the day, jammed to Beyonce's "To The Left" and No Doubt way back when and grooved to Sixpence None The Richer's '97 song- "Kiss Me"- that's not gonna fly now in this day and age. I had visited Koko way before the Koko Ramen and Manchego combined to be one entity. But with a newfound appreciation of Spanish tapas, my desire to return doubled with this partnership. The time I started by journey back it so happens that they re-introduced a happy hour menu in January. As a solo diner, this appealed to me (note: best place to know what is on the happy hour menu without visiting in person is on their Instagram account) For those who dine solo, the best time to eat would be early happy hour on a weekday and to sit near the bar counter towards the front of the restaurant. Other hours, it would be so packed that you might get missed for a while if you are not constantly near a bartender. And depending on the hours, you might get families who visit with their children to eat (I had a mini scare since a child popped out from under my table ) In terms of the food options, I was pretty satisfied with the items I have ordered throughout my multiple visits (to stay and to go). The meatballs (from the happy hour menu) was a delightful treat and not too thick. I did like their selection of house wines as well plus pork shumai. On their regular menu, I still think about the octopus I had tried once. It is one of the more expensive items in the tapas section but definitely a must get. I also think the hirata bun is a definite great choice as something quick for takeaway or as an appetizer. One thing to note is that the menu on their website is not up to date with the menu you would have in the restaurant. The order online option is more current. If you only rely on the website menu, you would miss items such as the Spanish spaghetti which I like (not pictured cause i ordered it to go). Our intention was to grab a light dinner and do some bar hopping on our way to a show at Kings Theater. We passed by several potential spots along Cortelyou, but this place caught my eye and we doubled back to check it out. Very nice atmosphere and pleasant staff. Prices were pretty reasonable too. We ordered the meat and cheese plate and a tuna app with avocado and lime juice. Both were great. After our meal we decided to just stick around for drinks and we invited a local friend to come join us. At this point, more patrons were arriving and we decided to give up our table and move to the bar. The bartender rewarded us with a round of infused tequila shots that were just delicious. Good food, great ambiance, great service! This is a lovely spot for apps/small plates. My wife and I shared the chicken karaage, shrimp shumai, spinach artichoke dip, and crab cake minis. They were well crafted, but just a note that these are definitely small plates (see photos). As my main I ordered the Lamb Sliders. They were juicy, flavorful, and had a good ratio of patty to bun. The side of fries they pair with the sliders are a hit as well. The interior seating options give you a relaxed feel with the dark walls and dim lighting. Alternatively, their outdoor seating is partially open and allows you to get some fresh air. Our server was friendly and gave us some great recommendations! read more

The quality of the drinks were a huge let down. It's Saturday evening, and I was served a very tasteless margarita. The food was... to say subpar would be an overstatement. I know ramen could be tricky to make, but c'mon. The broth was barely luke warm, and the overall flavoring was uneventful. Finally, there's the visible refrigeration. I LOVE this place and it's my go-to spot when I need good food, good music, good cocktails without the loud, obnoxious bar feel. It's attracts a good crowd. Ambience: Perfect for day or evening, date or friend hangouts. The most impressive art is on the ceiling-- look up and you'll be impressed whether you're arty or not. The lighting gets dim in the evening and it's perfect. Work & Play?: They have WiFi! It does not look like a place to work but they didn't mind me plugging up my laptop and me connecting to their WiFi while I sip on margaritas and listen to great music. Music: What a great playlist! Cuban tunes and live band (it was a Monday night!) with singers who play great acoustic guitars! Happy hour: 5-7pm. They opened right on time at 5pm, as I was standing outside early waiting to get in. They opened not a minute later than 5pm and they took our happy hour orders right away. No margaritas on happy hour, though. $6 tapas Food: Tapas: fried cheese balls, crunchy chewy fried squid, bomb grilled octopus, this sexy mushroom cheesy bread number made my stomach chuckle cause it's never had happy hour tapas that were actually worth a chew! All tapas would make great main dishes, actually. Drinks: The Manchego Margarita has just the right amount of chili spice. Pineapple Jalapeño Mojito perfect sweet & spicy- so popular they ran out of ingredients for it one time. Strawberry Basil Margarita was so natural tasting-- loved it. Sangrias are great, both the red and white-- I love how they aren't super sweet with added fillers and sugars. It's just good, REAL wine and fruit. Dessert: The molten lava cake was okay but not as great as this cold chocolate mousse tower of a dessert thinger they served. You can share it but I realized I personally needed my own so I ordered another. They have some other desserts in that display case by the bar and I'm sure they are delightful, too. Service: Super nice people! You can tell they are loved and appreciated by the owner and management. There's a waiter here I absolutely love-- he's amazing and so knowledgable on what's what on the menu! Then, there's another waitress who forgot to check on us from the time we arrived till the time we left. I was there a couple days ago for 5 hours straight from the time they opened for dinner to almost closing time (don't worry, we were ordering all night and not just taking up space!). My friends and I had to keep flagging her down for more drinks and tapas before happy hour was over. We were still ordering after happy hour but boy was it a task! For each additional order, and it was plenty, we had to get up from the table, walk over to her and give her our order. Annoying, but everything was good even after waiting forever for food that sometimes never came out until we reminded her of our order. Only reason why 4 stars instead of 5. I truly enjoyed my experience here! 1. The bathrooms were clean and smelled nice. (This is rare in NYC, y'all some nasties) 2. We sat at the bar and the bar tender was amazing and friendly and the other server was also wonderfully friendly. 3. We were there for happy hour, the white sangria was delicious and potent. We also ordered the grilled octopus, the croquetas de jamon, the Brussel sprouts, and the oysters. Everything tasted amazing. It was truly a great experience. What? I only have five stars to choose from? I need ten and I would give this restaurant all ten gold stars. My husband and I and our son, who lives in the neighborhood, ate a meal here tonight. We only had drinks and tapas but those drinks and tapas were superb. It was the best white Sangria I have ever had. Not overly sweet. Just right. The tapas were delectable. The Mac and cheese balls came in a little pot of cheese fondue / sauce and were absolutely delicious. I also enjoyed the crispy fish tacos and their seafood paella was not bad. I think this is a great place to grab some drinks and small plates with friends. There's ample seating and it's decorated nicely with wine bottles, brick, wood and vines. We ordered sangria and a few tapas dishes ($6 each) from the happy hour menu (asparagus, potatoes bravas, calamari) and rib eye steak as our shared entree. The sangria and food were appetizing, especially the calamari and potatoes that accompanied the steak. But what really stood out was the chocolate mousse dessert- may be the best chocolate mousse I've ever tasted. This place has the best seafood pasta - the Spanish Spaghetti. It's a huge portion of perfectly cooked shrimp, clams, and chorizo with a very light olive oil drizzle.
