I ate here twice on my most recent trip to Myrtle Beach. It was in the off-season, and right when they opened, so it wasn't very busy at all. It's definitely an older building, but very clean on the inside and the staff is super friendly. Plentiful items on the buffet, the usual breakfast buffet fair. The bacon is extra crispy (how I like), and the French toast is quite tasty. They also have bountiful biscuits and gravy and corn beef hash if that's your thing. The eggs do taste fresh and not some weird bio engineered product. Only two items keep me from giving it five stars First, the price, with coffee it's a touch over $20 a person. I don't think that's crazy, but for breakfast it's pretty steep. It's very tough to eat anywhere near that amount of food to justify the cost imho. Maybe drop the coffee price from $4 to $2? Second, food temperature. I visited two days in a row, both when they first opened, both when the buffet was super fresh. At best everything was room temperature. I'm not super hard to please, and thankfully it was tasty enough, but I could see, as other reviewers have mentioned , the food temp being a little bit offputting. All in all, I would certainly recommend and return. If they could get the food temp correct, then the pricing piece may be a little bit more in order. This place is delicious! It's a cute diner with great waitstaff. Their prices are cheap/reasonable in my opinion. They have a breakfast buffet with everything breakfast you can imagine. I've never tried it but my family has and they liked it a lot. Tons of fruit on there too! I've been twice and both times got the Philly cheesesteak off the lunch menu (available after 11). First time I got half fries half onion rings. Second time only onions rings. The meat is shaved finely, the cheese melted throughout makes the fish have a creamy texture, and there's a perfect amount of peppers and onions. It's so friggin good I crave it on a weekly basis. They close at 2pm which I'm not a fan of, because I never make it in time to eat here, but it's a breakfast place so I get it. If you have a chance, give this place a try! read more

Ordered steak & eggs after waiting 15 minutes for a server to show up at our table. Ordered steak no seasoning. When it came out it was loaded with seasoning& garlic salt. Hate garlic salt. After getting recommendations from friends, we put Mammy's Kitchen on our list of places to have breakfast. What a disappointment! First of all, the staff was rude, unfriendly, and barely communicative. There were never any "thank you's" or even "how was everything?', just very slight nods of the head for acknowledgment. The food was marginal at best - request for a poached egg produced something that more closely resembled a hardboiled egg and should have been sent back. An order of bacon was two very thinly sliced, tasteless, greasy meat that was served cold (I always thought an order was three slices). Be prepared to pay something like $1.59 for a glass of water, the same as for a cup of coffee. Nothing was seasoned at all and we left feeling we had wasted over $40 for a meal that wasn't worth half that amount. As for ambience - zero. Not any resemblance to a classical diner from a past era. They may have been famous in the past, but Myrtle Beach has so many other great restaurants this one should be avoided. read more

Customer service and professionalism are paramount. The customer is always right; customers fuel the business. No satisfied customers equals no revenue. Today, I requested to sit at a table primarily due to my many orthopedic issues. I can not sit in booths due to my height, weight, and handicaps. This is how you treat a cancer patient. The nonchalant attitude of the hostess was disturbing. There was not a crowd, so there were plenty of tables. I requested to speak to the manager. She didn't have the decorum to come and to speak with me directly. She finally wanted me to sit at a small table, but her attitude was so unpleasant. I left. I will never return. Finally, I want to address the offensive name of this restaurant: Mammy's Kitchen. A name that was given to black women in persecution and cruel servitude. NAACP and other civil rights organizations will be contacted for this business' discriminatory practices. We enjoyed breakfast at Mammy's Kitchen this morning. We all ordered the buffet and drinks. The food bar was clean and well stocked. The employees were continuously tending to the bar. All the food on the bar, whether it was the sausage and bacon, the French, toast, and pancakes, or the biscuits and hashbrowns were hot. There was a nice variety of fresh fruit also.
