my first red flag, pro-gun signs all over the place (just my opinion). but we were hungry and the view looked fantastic. we sat down, had to seat ourselves and waited a while for our waitress to come help us. that being said, she was lovely and we had no issues with her. i wish we caught her name, but she was brunette and was wearing a red shirt today on 05/09. we ordered 3 sprites with prickly pear syrup and when we received them it tasted like tonic water and syrup. we politely brought this to the attention of the other server (blonde and wearing a yellow shirt, i'm assuming she's primarily a bar tender) who brought our cheese curds and she rudely said "oh i made your drinks and i clicked the sprite" we were all taken aback, but she said she'd go check on that. then our server comes, and delivers our food, once again zero issues with her she was lovely. but the food wasn't worth the price, our burgers were bland and honestly i had a better one from burger king in the airport a few days ago. chicken tenders were ok, the girls enjoyed it. so we just took our burgers as a loss, it wasn't worth making a fuss, especially after the other waitress was so rude when we brought up our poorly flavored drinks, we just didn't want to be put in a situation where we felt bad for bringing up something incorrect to the wait staff. the waitress who was rude about our drinks finally comes back and tells us the syrup was out so the sprite didn't taste sweet and like sprite at all and brought new drinks, but here's the kicker SHE DIDNT APOLOGIZE for being rude and not admitting her mistake that the syrup was out and she didn't realize sooner. and to put the final nail in the coffin, THEY RELEASED 4 HENS AND A DUCK on the patio. they didn't ask first if the guests were ok with this (a guest in our party has a HUGE fear of birds) and currently the bird flu is running rampant between birds so this was a health code violation. i also took a look through the reviews of this restaurant and saw the owner replied to another customer about not being able to bring their dog on the patio by saying they got complaints about health violations with non-service dogs. but a non-properly documented dog was on the patio today.... i've included all pictures of these claims below. (dog is in the background of the chicken/hen photo) lastly, people didn't smoke in the smoke designated area, they were smoking all over the patio. however, to end this review on a semi-positive note; our waitress did notice the guest in our party was showing visible signs of distress and asked the person to bring the birds back inside, so HUGE props to her. she made the experience a little better and saved this restaurant from a one star review. read more

Other than that, the service is slow and forgetful as the last two times we'd been there they either didn't bring us our order at all, or they forgot one out of five of our orders until everyone was done eating! They didn't offer to compensate us at all...ridiculous! This time we only ordered french fries and quesadillas a long with our overpriced drinks. One order was $11 and (for whatever reason) the waitress thought she was getting a $9 tip (after waiting forever) as she brought everyone's credit cards back but no change for the cash order. We had to hunt her down. Then...after requesting toilet paper in the ladies room twice by myself and also by the ladies in my group, I was told " it wasn't their job"!!! WTF??? First time visiting the ghost town. Weather was perfect and gorgeous view of the Superstition mountains. Sadly that is about it and the other negative reviews are pretty accurate. Saloon is neat but the bartender with the dark hair and cowboy hat wasnt overly attentive or friendly, didn't even tell us his name. Not sure if that's an act or he was hoping for big spenders. Great restaurant to look at. While you're looking notice how dirty it is. It's in the desert so dirt is to be expected but not on things that should be cleaned after each table of customers use them. The ketchup and mustard for example; besides seeing how dirty the caps were you could feel it when you pick up the squeeze bottle. The mustard cap looked like it had been handled by a mechanic that had been there for lunch 2 years prior. The baby Chair was so filthy you could see it 2 tables away. Not loose food but dirt The first waitress I brought this attention to said she couldn't see it because she didn't have her glasses on. Neither did i and i had no problem seeing how gross it was. The second waitress (who was pregnant) said, "we will get to it when we have time". Cleaning these things she be done daily upon closing. Let's start with the biggest problem: the bartender "Cowboy Dan" was openly racist in front of my family. Our table was approached by this older man with a European accent, dressed as a cowboy in all black, who first thanked us for coming. My 4-year-old cousin asked him if he was a "bad guy", to which he smiled and held out his arm and said, "I'm not a bad guy, see? We are the same color." He was about to continue the conversation, but I asked him to repeat what he had just said, which he did, word for word, and then I asked what he meant by that. "We're both white," he responded. "I don't understand, what does being white have to do with whether or not you're a bad guy?" I said, actually already understanding completely. "You don't see *me* out burning down churches," he said. "I still don't understand." "It was a joke." "Yeah, I don't get it. Can you explain why it's funny?" "It was just a joke. I'm sorry I made it." I told him to have a good day, as he finally walked away, and I realized I was shaking from how angry I was that this man assumed my white family would be in on his racist garbage. It seemed only fitting that, a few minutes later, a couple of women, one of them black, walked into the saloon, took a look around, and walked back out. I can't say what they were thinking, but I know I could only think of what that man had just said as I watched them leave. Later, on our way out, I overheard Dan talking loudly with another couple about "Chinese Biden" and "Muslim Obama". Before you disregard my distaste as "liberal politics", I was with my Trump-conservative mother, and my libertarian cousin, who both found the man's remarks disgusting as well, especially in-front of my cousin's young daughters. To sum up the rest of the experience, there was another older American white guy in a white cowboy hat with a red, white, and blue feather in it, who came up to talk to our table three times. He didn't say anything offensive, just acted kind of strange and did a little two-step every time he'd walk away. The hot food was all frozen-variety, not inedible, but overpriced and bland. The only positive aspect of the experience was our waitress, a nice pregnant woman whose name I didn't get. It was surprising to find a place that obviously had a local clientele, in the middle of a tourist trap. There was live guitar by a few different players, and when one played a Bully Currington song, half the bar would raise their glasses and sing the chorus every time. And half-because I suddenly felt slightly unsafe after my interaction with their regular bartender, and didn't want to seem like even more of an outsider as I realized I was wearing my "Second City Diversity in Comedy" t-shirt, I sang right along with them: "God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy." read more

We walked in and stood for 10 minutes before another GUEST finally said " I think you seat yourself " so we sat and waited for 15-20 minutes saw another table walk in and get waited on right away. I walked over to where the servers were inputting orders and asked if the table we sat at was not in a open section- she apologized told us they were short staffed and unorganized. That should have been our cue, she came over took our drink order and never returned so we left. Thank goodness we didn't give them any money. Also outside the restaurant a white gentleman stared a whole through my black husband. We should have taken this as a warning when we walked in and saw the decor and some of the staff. We would have been better off at Burger King. My husband ordered the TBone Steak. Beans were definitely canned and the dinner roll was hard as a rock aka frozen dinner roll that was over-microwaved. Plastic silverware, paper plates, solo cups and frozen food that wasn't even reheated properly. $128 for family of 5 to eat dinner, what a nightmare. Don't waste your time or money. Worst experience I've had in a long time. I always go into a restaurant with an open mind and I try not to judge, but this place was rough. First off there's no a/c. They have three fans blowing the hot air around which honestly just makes it worse. OSHA requires public buildings to be between 68°-76°, so the fact that this place still has its doors open while it's 90° inside blows my mind. Secondly the service was mediocre. To be fair, there was only one server. But there was only four tables in the whole restaurant. I had to wait 30 minutes for the worst lemonade I've ever had. It tasted like it was made with tap water and the lemonade mix must have been expired. There must have only been one cook too, because the food took an hour and a half. We ordered at 12:30pm and finally got our food at 2:14pm. Once the food was brought out, our server put the tray of food on the floor to serve it to us. Why couldn't she use a tray stand or put it on the table next to us? As a restaurant manager myself, this server should no longer be employed. Health codes are being broken left and right by the staff. I also went to the bathroom and noticed our server was throwing up and didn't wash her hands afterwards. Hopefully she doesn't get us sick. The food was the only good thing about this place, but not worth the $100 our table spent. I will never come back. And I hope management sits down to reevaluate and correct all of these mistakes. We stopped in for lunch yesterday. I had a mammoth burger. The burger was pretty decent. I ordered it medium but it came out medium well. It certainly had lots of yummy toppings on it. But I would recommend either increasing the actual size of the burger in oz or flattening it so it fits on the bun better. My preference would be flattening it. Each time I would take a bite the burger would move around in the bun. Also, please consider removing the center spine of the lettuce it can be very bitter. The french fries tasted home cut, and all three of us agreed they were very fantastic. My wife and friend had the pulled pork. They said the actual pork itself was nice and tender. They both didn't like the sauce flavor and felt it needed something with a sweet flavor to it. The buns as a couple others have pointed out are onion buns. This means they have little tiny pieces of semi-moist onion on the bun top. I do think they should let everyone know as some people don't like onion in anyway. Personally, I love onion and it added flavor to the burger. According to their menu they don't have water on site. Something about a 100 year old well. So they bring water in for customers. The water is a bottled water they serve. However, $2.25 for a bottle of 16 oz water is extreme. So, my recommendation would be to get a soda at $2.50 with unlimited refills. I had a Coke. The carbonation needed to be increased as it was borderline flat without any fiz. Consider a different straw or cup please. That thin red straw just kept floating to the top and almost out the whole time. They did have ac, but the doors were open so it was only somewhat cool. They did have quite a few very large fans running. Our waitress, while efficient and very quick to refill our drinks needed to smile a little, and make a little small talk. She might of just been having a bad day or she may be like that as a norm. All I am saying is smiling and adding a little small talk goes a long way to better tips in general. There are two doors to enter. As you come up the main steps the first door is to the saloon/bar side of the establishment. The 2nd door is to the main eating area and if you need it the rest rooms. Both areas are connected inside so you can access either. We went into the second door. There was a hostess stand there but no hostess. Either I missed a sign or there isn't a sign at all, but they need one that says please seat yourself and someone will be with you. Since I didn't see one I went down to the bar area and waited until a waitress was available and asked. She said we could sit anywhere. The ambiance and decor is spot on for the 1890's time frame and it was nice. They had lots of things hanging around. Animal pelts, boots etc. The flies, the flies. They were driving us crazy. There were at least 5-7 around our table. They were non-stop landing on the food or on your face. We had to constantly swat them away. About halfway through my wife mentioned getting a to-go box because it had reached a point where it was fairly unbearable for her. Flies don't bother me much, but when they are walking all over my food, the edge of my drinking glass, that is a completely different story. We got a to-go box and paid. I ended up tossing the food when we got home. The flys unfortunately are what will stop me from visiting their restaurant again. But I will be back to see the other parts of the attraction. With a small amount of tweaking for some directional signs, change the thin straws out, a bit of money spent on fly management, increase the carbonation, it would have been a substantially better trip. read more

Seated and waited, ordered drinks and waited, ordered an appetizer and never got it, steaks were warm and all other sandwiches were cold, asked for ketchup and refills and double waited. Today, however, we ate there with some friends who are relocating and had a very delicious cheeseburger and fries. I came in on a pretty slow night with a group of ten or so. The service started off slow but I thought that was kinda normal with the size of our party. The mushrooms came from a can, and the chicken and beef were served luke-warm to cold. Fries weren't impressive either. The waitress also charged us 20% gratuity on our bill even though we had four adults and three kids under 6. When we asked to get the mandatory tip removed, the waitress just pointed to the menu where it said a "suggested gratuity would be applied to parties of six or more." I have no problem tipping 20% on a meal except for when the service is not deserving of such a tip. Had lunch here today with my in-laws and two young children. The meal was nothing special. At the end of our meal an older gentleman who worked there came over to ask us how everything was and thank us for coming. Then he proceeded to greet each of my children, and asked my 8-year old son if he wanted a job. My son said "no". He then said that he didn't want the job because the other option was just sitting at home on the couch all day and that only republicans had jobs. The best thing about this place is being pulled into the gold mining history. This restaurant is nestled at the top of a old mining town (refurbished version). The restaurant offer indoor and outdoor seating with views of the superstitious. It's within an equestrian community to travel by horse is common and accommodated. After hiking at the Arboretum on a fairly warm Father's Day, we trekked over to the saloon in the hopes of finding some great bbq and live cowboy music. I was impressed by the scenery and old west, ghost town decorum, but the food, service and entertainment left much to be desired. There was lots of seating in the dining area, while the bar served several thirsty customers. Large standing fans were used to cool the main area near the stage and we were told that the ceiling fans didn't work. It was warm but not nearly as bad as outside. It didn't matter, we were hungry and ready for some music! I ordered the Mammoth burger, medium rare, with everything on it. What I received was a very *well done* (no pink) burger slathered in mushrooms and onions, light tomato and lettuce. The mushrooms were overly slimy and large, and the onions should have been grilled more. I ended up picking them all off. Regardless, the burger was low quality and the bun fell apart halfway through. The fries were OK - crispy and salty. My stepmom ordered the burger too and the waitress confused it with my dad's order, removing the bun from both she and my dad's sandwich. When told about the mistake, the waitress insisted that's what she had ordered, citing another special request that my stepmom never made. She corrected it by bringing out a bun... a very sloppily fixed error. My gf's pulled pork sandwich was low quality too, being quite mushy and flavorless. We were under the impression that the music would start at noon, but it was nearly 1pm when a crooning cowboy guitarist made the stage. We were done at the point. If they could step up the service and and food quality, the saloon would really enhance the ghost town experience at this unique outdoor attraction. The beer selection is limited, but I don't hold it against them, I don't expect craft beer at a saloon in the middle of nowhere. Their prickly pear margarita was tasty and refreshing. My only problem with the food was that the New York strip was very thin. They did a good job of cooking it to order, and I enjoyed the taste. My issue was with the service. Our waitress was very slow. At the end she apologized for the slow service, and I can look past that, but not after receiving bad service. There were 5 of us, and when the bill came she didn't ask us if we wanted it split up. I tried to make things easy for her and collected everyone's credit cards and wrote next to each item on the receipt the last four of the credit card to put it item on. As I was about to finish up she came by and asked what I was doing. When I tried to explain, she told me I shouldn't have done that. She said she knew what should be charged to each person and she would separate out the receipts. She left for a while and came back saying that she didn't know who ordered each drink. Had she let me put it on the receipt like I had attempted, she wouldn't have had to come back and ask. The way she told me I was wrong to try to help her was insulting in front of my friends, and then to come back and not know who ordered what was frustrating. When she funally came back with the receipts we noticed she charged us a 20% gratuity. On their menu it says a "suggested 20% gratuity is added to groups of 6 or more." There were 5 of us so it shouldn't have been applied. There also was no option to remove the gratuity. I tend to tip generously unless the service is poor, or I am insulted. She never came back around so we could ask the mandatory gratuity be removed. We finally just left paid and left. read more

We went to Mammoth on a Monday evening. Food was mediocre but edible. Our server was very nice. The problem was there were three men on the deck drinking heavily...one of them was actually staggering and could hardly form a sentence. That would not usually bother me but they were carrying weapons. i could be wrong but it is my understanding that if you are carrying your weapon, you can be at a business that serves alcohol but you cannot consume alcohol. We did point out to our waiter that the man staggering around the restaurant had a weapon. He wasn't served any more alcohol and I don't know if he arrived there intoxicated or if he was drinking at Mammoth the whole time but for several reasons he should not have been served. read more

This was my first yelp review - Actually it was the bad experience that I had here which compelled me to join Yelp, so that I could maybe save others from a similar bad experience. I had out of town visitors with me, and I thought they would enjoy the ambiance of the mining town, etc. The visit was very disappointing - It took 30 min. for our drink order to be taken - After we ordered dinner, it took nearly 45 min. to get our food. We were very surprised at how slow the service was, because it was a Thursday night, and it did not look busy at all. What we ordered did not taste good at all - Chicken strips & Mammoth Burgers. The chicken strips were soggy & cold, and the burgers were cold with soggy, plain buns. A very poor experience, because of poor food and service. WILL NEVER RETURN. read more
