Jerk chicken fresh off the grill
    Ashlee G.

Best Authentic Jamaican food I have had since I've been in FL. The customer service was great! The young ladies were very accommodating for me and my children, although the set up isn't really made for small children because they only have high top tables. But my family and I were treated very kind and when I food came it was amazing! I've been eating there 3 days in a row because their food is that delicious. Now I will admit the area isn't my kind of comfortability but the food is worth every visit and the prices are great as well! It's nothing like having great food that doesn't cost a fortune! I've had plenty expensive Jamaican food that is either very Americanized or just plain out nasty on top of rude employees. This place is nothing like that. And they have great customer service! It's a WIN WIN! ‍ extra bonus, they sell Jamaican beverages and beer and wine as well. You can definitely eat good and drink good.

Hair in food & horrible customer service. I was trying to work with the lil attitude issue and gave them another try. But hair in food. Now that's just plain disgusting. They will not get my business again.

I ordered the brown stew chicken, based on yelp reviews. Horrible the best part of the meal was the sweet plantains & the Kola Champagne that saved me from chocking on that dry food. The food was inedible, just tasteless and terribly dry. Do yourself a favor and stay away. Not authentic Jamaican food, quite an embarrassment.

It's a small, mom-and-pop-like shop which of course is the best kind of restaurant IMO. When I walked in, everything smelled amazing and all the food was covered up, which I can appreciate for cleanliness purposes. I was greeted by a smiling and upbeat Simone, who is super warm and welcoming. This was a very pleasant surprise given how my beautiful Jamaican people do not always get the best rep for customer service (IYKYK). I ordered the oxtail, rice and peas and some jerk chicken. Simon gave me a beautiful, and packed plate. The rice and peas was SOO good, I was happy just eating it by itself. The oxtail pieces were big and juicy and FALL-OFF-THE-BONE good. The cabbage had a distinct color and flavor that I LOVED. I give the overall plate a 9/10 only because I didn't get any carrots with the oxtail or sweet plantains in my order which I personally prefer and personally feel should come with oxtail meals. Also because while the jerk chicken LOOKED AMAZING and was nice enough, it didn't pack as much flavor as I would like and they didn't have a signature sauce with it (again, a personal preference, try it yourself, to see how YOU feel). Overall, this was an awesome experience. I would definitely eat here again and strongly encourage you to give it a try if you haven't yet, even just to experience the pleasure of meeting Simone.

We arrived around 11 PM on a Friday and the place had great energy. It was lively without feeling overwhelming, and a few tables looked like they were celebrating special occasions, which added to the vibe. The music was excellent and honestly brought back a bit of that nostalgic, high school party feel in the best way. We ordered a couple of drinks and they were definitely strong and well made. The service stood out just as much as the atmosphere. The owner was incredibly pleasant and attentive, checking in with us several times to make sure we were taken care of. You could tell she genuinely cared about the guests. I also learned the owners are Trini and Guyanese, which I loved because it added a nice personal touch to the experience. As a first time visitor, I really appreciated that she thanked us for coming when we left. It made the experience feel welcoming and personal. I'll definitely be back to try the food. As a vegetarian, I'm hoping to make a special request since there aren't many Chinese vegetarian options on the menu, but I'm confident they'll accommodate it. We left after 1 AM and people were still coming in, so it's clearly a popular late night spot. Great location right off University with plenty of parking, which makes it super convenient. Overall, a great night, great energy, and a place I'll be returning to.

The location is not in the best neighborhood, and by looks of their front door (iron bars), it very well might be an unsafe area. The restaurant inside is clean, I'll give them that. Tables and floors were well kept and wiped down after guests left. There were a couple ladies behind the counter who were friendly and gave us some time to review the menu. Jason and I both ordered the same thing, goat curry (curry goat) with rice and peas and it came side a small side of steamed cabbage and a few sweet plantains as well. We took our food to go and all the way home it smelled go good! Immediately when I opened the container I knew right away, it was going to be a hit or miss (for me). The color or the goat was very yellow, which means, this curry was more turmeric than actual curry power. Being from the Caribbean, you know the difference between the 2 things.... Nevertheless, we ate, and we both liked the food, it was not something that I felt like I could not stop eating, nor thought 'wow I can't wait to go back'. The meat of the goat was tender for sure. The flavors that I'm familiar with, were not there. And I understand that this might be the restaurant's way of cooking, and their style, and that's totally ok, it's just for me this was not one of my favorite Jamaican spots.

Everything tasted great. The chicken was crispy, the rice and peas were well seasoned, and the oxtail gravy brought everything together perfectly. The plantains were a standout, sweet like candy and cooked just right. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. However, the ambiance felt more like a hole in the wall spot rather than a polished dining environment. That being said, the quality and flavor of the food definitely make up for it. Overall, it's a great place to grab authentic, delicious Jamaican food, and I'd definitely come back again.

I went with the boneless curry chicken, and this wasn't your basic Jamaican curry chicken. It comes loaded with pumpkin, potatoes, peppers, and onions, and the flavor is incredible. The curry is aromatic, well-seasoned, and developed without overpowering everything else on the plate. The pumpkin adds a subtle natural sweetness while the potatoes soak up all that curry flavor. And being boneless makes the entire dish even easier to enjoy. One thing I really respect is that the food is cooked to order. When your plate comes out, it is PIPING HOT. You may have to wait a little longer, but I'll take freshly prepared food over something that has been sitting in a steam table all day. That freshness makes a difference. Now let's talk about the Dry Basil White Rice. It sounds simple, but executing something simple extremely well tells me a lot about a kitchen. The rice is fluffy, aromatic, and seasoned enough to have its own identity instead of just being something underneath the curry. Even the vegetables get attention. The steamed cabbage and callaloo are flavorful and properly seasoned. Nothing on the plate feels like an afterthought. And DO NOT skip the homemade drinks. The lemonade is excellent, but my personal favorite is the Pineapple Ginger Lemonade. Sweet, refreshing, and balanced with that ginger coming through at the end. That drink with the curry chicken is a serious combination. Another major plus: the food is halal, and there are also vegetarian and vegan options. Everything I ate had this fresh, clean quality to it. You leave satisfied without feeling like you just ate something overly heavy. When you walk inside, take a second and look at the walls. You'll see Chef Rose's awards and accomplishments, and that immediately tells you there's pride behind this operation. This isn't somebody who just decided to start selling Jamaican food. You can feel the chef-driven approach in the details. After eating here, I understand why people speak so highly of the place. Other diners consistently mention the same things I noticed--freshness, big flavor, made-to-order preparation, and food arriving hot. My advice? Don't come in expecting fast food. Come expecting freshly cooked food. If you're in a rush, call your order in ahead of time. Quality takes a little longer, and in this case, it's worth the wait. Cheffield isn't just serving traditional Jamaican food--they're putting a chef's touch on Jamaican cuisine while still respecting the flavors that make the food what it is. Chef Harvey Approved. ‍ Food: 5/5 Flavor: 5/5 Freshness: 5/5 Presentation: 4.5/5 Overall: 5/5 I'll definitely be back because now I need to work my way through the rest of that menu.

Going in, the interior was very clean and clearly gave off carribean vibes. The tables inside were jumping with other patrons, but we were seated rather quickly. For dinner, we ordered 1x griot dinner complete (meaning the platter; rice & peas, pikliz, plaintains), 1x lassot complete (fried turkey), and 2x pate codes (think of a loaded hatian empanada; we ordered 1x fish and 1x chicken). Moving on with our review; everything was excellent! The griot had a nice crispy exterior but was tenderly seasoned inside. The lassot was surprisingly moist and crispy too. To include, the contrast of the onions marinated with the green seasoning on top. The rice & peas were cooked perfectly as they were light as air and plantains were crispy & salted nicely too. The pate codes were huge in size and flavor as well! My preference would be the original over the fish, but they both packed a tangy, savory, and spicy punch! Moreover, we had the pleasure of meeting and being served by the owner, who was very friendly and attentive. At the time, I was…read moreeager to try the local restaurants and find a spot that could be one of my "regular" places. The first few times I visited Chelly's there was always a pretty decent sized line (a mark of a good restaurant usually). I'm no stranger to island food, but I also don't know many of the dishes all too well so I always have questions. The first few times I came I met Chelly, the owner of the establishment. She was warm and welcoming and took time to explain what everything was even knowing that there was a line to get her delicious food. I ordered the chicken curry as my first choice with rice and peas, cabbage, and a Jamaican beef patty. The food was OUTSTANDING! Flavorful, fresh, full of character and the portions are BIG so it's a great value. They had earned my business from day one and since then I had been coming back on and off when I was craving Jamaican food. Fast forward to today, I'm still a loyal customer and I want to say...this is the friendliest, most welcoming restaurant I have ever been to. Sam usually takes care of me and always greets me when I come in, she's personable, and loved getting to know the clientele to the point where she remembers conversations you shared and will ask you "hey how's _____ going?" I really love the welcoming atmosphere. The thing is, it's not just her.....her husband Matthew, is the same way! He's super nice, super welcoming, takes the time to explain the food, gives samples, even sometimes hooks me up with a little extra on the house. It doesn't stop there though....Viannie is also just as nice, friendly, welcoming and enjoyable to be served by. The whole establishment is bursting with personality and friendly attitudes. THIS is something I highly value and has seemingly become lost in this post-pandemic world. Not at Chelly's, they take pride in not only serving up delicious food full of flavor and soul, but also serving it up with a smile and attitude that warrants becoming a regular. If you haven't dined here, or aren't sure about dining here....drop what you're doing and give this place a try. Also worth mentioning, their lunch special deal for 6.99 is a TREMENDOUS value given the size of the portions and the freshness of the food. Small businesses such as Chelly's need your support. We are living in a capitalist world and big name businesses are running small businesses out. Don't let that happen, support your local establishments and family owned businesses. Chelly's has earned my business for life and they should earn yours too.
