First time trying Haitian food and it was so good I can't stop thinking about it. The stew was so well flavored and so hearty and filling, I even had leftovers. The rice was to die for as it was flavored, texture amazing and such a good amount again of everything. The drink was oh my god, so strong lol! I don't eat meat so it's not 100% fair to review this restaurant as such. Items were limited but they were good, I liked the Caribbean cabbage with the pigeon rice and the black rice. The sweet plantains were also nice. This is place is located right next to Funky Buddha facing the street. My dining friend had the jerk chicken and he gobbled down that bad boy. For him it was a 4 star experience. Please keep in mind that some items will be already prepared buffet style so you won't get 100% fresh but close enough. The staff was very friendly and efficient, my waiter even ran out and gave me my card that I had left on the table, how good is that? They have a rather extensive menu. The prices are reasonable for the quality too 5 star food: both chicken curry and griot were terrific and among the best I've had. Chicken curry was spicy and the sauce was so good I put it all over my rice. My other half loves griot, and raved about theirs 5 star service: they were incredibly welcoming, prompt and fast. It brings me great sadness to say that the oxtail recipe has changed. The burst of flavors are undoubtedly missing from this staple fan favorite dish, that it makes me almost want to cry. I went in here during my lunch break to see if the oxtail still hit and sadly they do not. Do not get me wrong they are not bad at all, but I was not pleased with the consistency of the sauce whatsoever. It needed more flavor to me! This was my first time experiencing Marc's Cuisine, formerly Alberte's Restaurant. My school was fortunate enough to be recipients of a delicious donation for our holiday luncheon. I love when Oakland Park businesses look out for their local schools. Everything was delicious and plentiful. We served approximately 130 people. Next time ordering, I'll definitely ask for more of the curried chicken. Everyone raved about the flavor. I've come to this location several times and it has always been perfect. However I came back yesterday after a few months of not going and it was disappointing. The salon is pretty big with indoor and outdoor sitting. Some items are already made and some others are made to order. Chicken wings had a light breading and were crispy, but super salty. The Mac and cheese bites were dry and flavorless. The griot had a good amount of fatty parts , but again salty. Black rice was just ok. And I love pikliz but this was either the last thing in the jar or was made for the devil himself, because it was soooo hot that my nose hairs fell off. I wanted to like this place so much. It's next to Funky Buddha, has amazing smells the second you walk in, and has every Caribbean dish I love on the menu. But it fell so short of my expectations. Let's start with the good: great variety of food, restaurant was clean and nicely decorated, and there was a steady stream of people going in and out as we dined. The jerk chicken I ordered was flavorful and served hot with lots of sauce. But there were a lot of not-so-goods: they were out of some menu items (and no recommendations, just "uh-uh, we don't have that"), there are dozens of rules taped around the restaurant telling diners where they could/couldn't order/eat, the prices are exorbitant for what you're getting ($20 for a plate with lukewarm rice? $8 for a side of plantains?), and the takeout service took precedence over the dine-in service. Like, service was painstakingly slow from flagging down someone to place our order 20 minutes after we sat down, seeing folks who sat down after us finish their food before we even got ours, to getting our dishes (we ordered apps and they came after we were more than halfway through our meals, and we saw it had been sitting under a heat lamp for at least 15 minutes), to getting water refills and a side of pikliz. When it was time to go, we couldn't get anyone's help so we grabbed our own boxes from the counter and went straight for the take-out area to pay for our meals. I wouldn't come back here to dine-in, and there are better/more affordable spots down the street if you're craving Jamaican/Haitian food. But for convenience, it's nice to know I can grab takeout next to one of my fave breweries. read more

I came in an hour before closing on a Tuesday night. There was maybe two more customers in the building. The sign says please wait to be seated, but no one acknowledged us. Eventually we asked about seating, and someone sat us. The place looks very clean even down to the plates they brought out they look brand new. I ended up ordering the fried turkey with rice and beans. the turkey came out piping hot which is how I like It... and it was very delicious. But they turned around and put a nice pile of cold rice on my plate it had no warmth whatsoever. I could not figure out how it took almost 30 mins for me to end up with cold food. My mouth is watering as I type. Being Haitian, there is no better food and I am so glad that Alberte's is around to share the love of Haitian cuisine. I typically list out items that I've tried but , we ate so much food and enjoyed every bit of it, I'll just say try it all. Unlike most Haitian restaurants, Alberte's allows clients to sit down inside and be served. It was about 12 of us and our waitress did a phenomenal job. The only discrepancy, which was really unfortunate was that the manager was rude to our waiter. So much so, she walked out the restaurant before we could pay our check. The staff is super friendly and professional, the place is clean and well organized, and the food was delicious. The Kodenn nan sos (turkey in sauce) was freshly prepared and made quickly. I've had the oxtail and the island chicken and both times the level of spice and the level of food temperature have been very good....and the black rice, excellently prepared..........excellent kitchen staff. Service- 1 star. The two times I've been there, I have found the rudest people behind the counter. The first time, the lady basically gave one word answers to whatever questions we had about the menu, food, types, etc. Looking at me like What In the Heck do you Want ????? This last time (Thursday April 29th around 12:30pm) the lady whose name was Aqulla (server #35) - (based on the receipt) was the rudest person I have ever encountered in a restaurant. I walked in and mentioned how delicious the aromas were...She looked at me with hate in her eyes and basically said nothing. Just a GRUNT....that was what I got as an answer. Then I asked for my meal and said not a single word, but her eyes again were very piercing and almost hateful.... Owner or Manager of this place: There are thousands of restaurants in the area....dozens of Caribbean flair. People don't need this type of abuse nor poor customer service. This place is a pretty good Haitian Caribbean Restaurant. The place seemed pretty clean. I liked the concept of indoor and outdoor seating which Is always great to me. I popped I the place was not that busy which was great since I heard it was always super busy. I opted to sit at the bar which I preferred which n\made the hostess a little upset but whatever. I did try the recommended Port Au Prince drink which was definitely strong and worth every cent. I could not finish the drink which is pretty rare lol. Service honestly wasn't a strong suite. Great Haitian Caribbean food. Clean, large, contemporary decor, indoor/outdoor seating. The place was packed with patrons. This restaurant had a full bar, and great music to entertain you while you eat. The service was not the best. I felt rushed taking my order. She seemed to just stand there with a blank stare. Made no suggestions or recommendations. I advised her that 2 of the guests dining were pescatarian. I ordered 2 fish dishes, conch fritters, mac and cheese, and fried pork chucks (Griot). She did not advise me that the mac and cheese had meat in it, nor did the menu. So when it came out no one else on the table could eat it except for me. The conch fritters were flavorful but it definitely needed more conch instead of batter. My pork chunks (griot) were awesome. Very flavorful. It came with black rice (Diri Jon Jon), bunan (green plantain) and a salad. The fried fish was excellent, very fresh, flavorful, moist and flaky and fried to perfection. The salmon was sauteed and served with white rice and black beans (sos pwa) and also had great authentic Caribbean flavor. The atmosphere is better than most Caribbean restaurants. Kind of has a real restaurant type of feel, not a stop, grab, and go type of setting. They need to work on better service, but overall great restaurant based on food quality and decor alone. read more

5 star overall Haitian cuisine has got to be amongst the best cuisine worldwide. Great build flavors and plenty of options. We got our drink orders in right away: Tropical Island and The Reggie. Great balance of mixed drinks and if you arrive between 3 and 7, you can partake in Happy Hour specials. Onto the food, the appetizers: the accra is soo good! Dipped in the pikliz and its perfection. The coconut shrimp has the right level of breading, not overly coconut which I appreciate. Each entree is served with your rice of choice: white with bean sauce, rice and beans or mushroom rice. I love, love the rice and beans. Probably the best I've had other than my mom's. The entrees: goat stew was delicious! Served in sauce with onions it's the right level of spice and seasoning. My all-the-time favorite would have to be the whole fried red snapper (Market Price so be sure to ask). Its remarkably well-seasoned and perfection. Also heats up well, setting as though you'll be hard pressed to finish it all, even if you're sharing. Love that it is a sit-down restaurant with a bar and booths. If you are a frequent visiter of Funky Buddha and you have not stopped by this restaurant, you are doing yourself a disservice! This type of quality Caribbean food, at your disposal, east of I95, is hard to come by. In my experience. It is shameful if you have not gone at least once. Very clean and open. LOOOOOTS of space. The tables are quite large and I'm quite short. I could barely reach my friend across the table. I really could have used a booster seat! :-D The good thing is that the table size works for the amount of food that they serve. The portions are ginormous! The service was mediocre. This is not an upscale establishment but it is also not a divey, hole-in-the-wall place. Our server and many of the staff around (i.e. bartender on her cell phone will cleaning up a floor spill) kept missing the mark. Keep in mind that this is a Caribbean establishment. This is not an insult to Caribbeans or the restaurant . I basically mean that it is typical for Caribbean establishments to provide more take-out orders than restaurant sit down service. So I kept this in mind during my experience. I enjoyed the fact that while dining in this restaurant I saw a great mix of people enjoying this authentically amazing food with smiles on their faces. The prices are very very fair. And everything was amazingly flavorful! I had whole fried snapper, rice and red beans (d' riz cole?), plantains and salad. Snapper was nicely seasoned and lightly fried to perfection. It was way too big and I took nearly half of it home! I also ordered a mojito. I was a bit disappointed. Whenever someone serves me an alcoholic beverage in a 16 oz beverage glass I am already looking at them with one eye open. I tasted none of the rum and I learned a big lesson because I asked for the mojito thinking there was only one mojito on the menu. However there were two! The traditional island mojito and the regular island mojito. So unfortunately I did not have the opportunity of trying the mojito with Haitian barbancourt rum like I wanted. I had it with Bacardi superior which is a subpar "Puerto Rican" rum but I digress. My one issue was that we weren't offered dessert but process our bill. When we asked for dessert, they didn't have the one that we wanted. Instead of leaving it like that, our server came back with a slice of cake and place it on the table and walked away. We were happy thinking "oh that was a nice gesture since they did not have the cake we wanted." However, we were surprised when she quickly returned and asked us how we were going to pay for the cake since we had already closed our bill. We were quite shocked to say the least. Despite this, I will return. The picklies, the seasoned fish, the rice and beans were perfect! My friend has the chicken and the sauce with that chicken was sooooo good. I've tried my best to support Caribbean-centric businesses as a member of the community. However, this place is a stain on what the community wants to be representative of. This was my 5th or 6th time, literally navigating through some of the rudest "staff" which they have plenty of that are shuffling behind the counter not helping but - shuffling around. And, the food is not that great, it's ok. I'm sure there are great people cooking the food etc but the "team" they have servicing paying customers are rude, lazy, uncommunicative and ruin the experience. I recommend they make this a take out spot only with no customer servicing - the bar in there is a waste and a joke, give it to a real establishment that needs a license. Our waitress took our drink and food orders. The service was ok, the food came out kind of slow. I decided to try their guanabana fruit smoothie which was very good. Now for the food, I ordered their curry beef. I would've truly liked it if it wasn't super salty. Now I'm a fan of salty foods, but this was like all salt and no flavor. The food was amazing! I recommend getting the griot (fried pork) or some tassot cabrit (fried goat). The meat had the right amount of spice. The marinade was just right on the meat. The plate includes rice, salad, plantain, gravy for the rice and pickliz (spicy coleslaw). They have different types of rice (black rice, yellow mixed vegetable rice , white rice, etc). It didn't take too long to get the food and check out. I definitely recommend trying this Haitian cuisine. read more

This isn't my first time coming here. The last time I dined in here i didn't have a good experience but I still decided to come back. I use to love dining in but I recommend takeout. We waited over 20 min to receive our drinks and they wasn't even busy. Literally one gentleman that was by his self at first then one person joined him 10 minutes after we were seated. She actually gave the gentleman that join the guy his drink before us. She then brings 2 out of the 3 drinks we ordered.The waitress tells my friend they don't have any frozen drinks. The drink my friend had didn't even taste like Rum Punch. Why offer alcohol drinks when you don't have a bartender or your waitress trained properly to make the drinks. We wait another 20 minutes and the waitress bring 2 out of 3 entrees. Then tell my other friend that the snapper she ordered was too small and does she want something else. Why would she tell us that now after waiting so long. My friend decline her offer to order something else. We finished eating and left. All of us was unsatisfied with the food and service.
