The area to order had fliers for CDP lisences and other ads. The four sit down tables weren't super clean but had a nice fake plant. I wasn't the typical demographic. We waited in line about 5-10 minutes, although there's not a lot of space for a line. The electronic menus inside don't work and we just guess based on a Yelp picture of a menu. The person said it would be about 15 minutes. After about 20 minutes we got our food and paid. There was a line to order and the phone kept ringing the whole time we were there. Also people talk on their phones loudly here. We got the stewed turkey, large. $10 And the fried pork. $12 Both with rice and beans. Both were pretty good and large for the price. The plantains were almost like hash browns. The turkey was almost in a curry but different. The sauce was also great for the rice and beans Based on the food quality and portion size, the rest of the business doesn't need to be a priority since they have quality food and lots of customers. Ideal place to get food delivered from or call ahead.

I had the turkey stew with beans, and a side of plantains. It was cooked and seasoned to perfection, with a huge portion. Plantains were crispy and perfect too. The family-run nature of the place is authentic and adds to the "what a great find" feeling. Oh, and cheap Joe's favorite part? A full restaurant meal is roughly $7! The divey ambience of the place is part of it's charm and uniqueness. First off, I was the only non-Haitian-Creole speaker in the place. The owner said "can I help you?" (I think meaning "you must be lost or something?") when I walked in...when I laughed and said I liked Haitian food, she laughed too. It's in an unlikely location (a slightly run-down tiny strip of Haitian specialty stores across from a 7-11 and near a very large gay leather bar). Truth be told, I came in because her place is always mobbed by Haitian-Americans, inside and out. Definitely they come here for the fantastic food. The parking lot is always filled, for a reason. What really made it a fun experience was Verna, who seemed to be the owner. She taught me a little Haitian Creole, which sounds a lot like Quebec Street French. Just a warm-hearted owner, with a fun place and great food.

The ambiance is that of a fast casual restaurant with and order counter and tables lining the outer perimeter of the restaurant. There are TVs playing as well. The service wasn't particularly friendly, the two ladies up front seemed more interested in chatting than helping me with the menu. The lunch special came with a soda but they do not offer diet soda and they will not substitute bottled water. I walked in for pickup, and the two lunches probably took 15-20 minutes to be prepared. My husband got the griot, which was flavorful but dry. I got the stewed chicken which was slightly overcooked and underseasoned. I did enjoy the fried smashed plantains, but the rice and beans tasted weirdly ashy? We barely touched those. The pikliz was only ok. Overall, I would not return as I was disappointed.

Everything tasted well seasoned and made with care. My o ly issue was the macaroni was sooo cold, as if they didn't even bother to warm it up and the griot was really dry. Overall, If you are looking for great Haitian cuisine that leaves you full and somewhat satisfied, this spot is definitely worth a visit.
