    Taso Cabrit Comple

My nose is running right now... that means they got the pikliz RIGHT! Lol! I'm a lover of Haitian food and I moved to homestead where it's been a feat to find any good Haitian restaurants. So I had to jump on the chance to find some while I was up north in Sunrise. Haitian restaurants can be hit or miss because it's homemade and every one has their own way of cooking but my number way to rate a Haitian spot is with the pikliz! I must say I am glad I bought a jar! Which is another tell tale sign that their food is good. If the pikliz comes in a jar, it's in high demand and I definitely see why theirs is. It's soo good. Not overly seasoned or too spicy. It's just right! Enough about the pikliz lol. I ordered Tasso Cabrit complete which is the fried goat meal with Djon Djon rice which is mushroom rice. It comes with a salad, 2 banan which is fried green plantain, two sauces, and a small pikliz. Now I did end up throwing the salad away and making my own. The romaine lettuce was a bit brown and wilted but I didn't mind that too much. The goat was really good. Some of the pieces weren't so tender but they weren't too hard that I could t enjoy it. I just know I can't warm this up. The Djon Djon rice was really good especially since I haven't had it in a while. It wasn't greasy and it had veggies in it but very little. I came across a couple kernels of corn and peas but no beans were in the rice. Which is fine, like I said every Haitian restaurant is different. The ones in homestead use pinto beans! I appreciated that authentic flavor for sure. Even without the beans. The banan were a bit soft which I also liked. I don't like when they're old and too hard to even bite. I didn't use the sauce but they give you two so they get a thumbs up for going the extra mile. Finally, I called in to order and the gentleman on the phone was nice and professional. It took us about 7 minutes to get there. We waited an extra few minutes in the car and when we went in to get the food it was ready. So it took about 10 minutes. Which is fast compared to some places. It's located in a plaza. The plaza looks a bit shifty lol but the inside of Coco's is nice and they had good customer service here. Overall I recommend this place. Especially if you're new to eating Haitian cuisine. I'm not Haitian but I fell in love with it years ago and I've missed it sooo much. Coco's definitely hit the spot and cured my cravings. Highly recommended! The next time I'm in the area I'll be returning to try the turkey!

First time newbie to Haitian food but omg so glad I tried it! I got the Griot comple lunch plate and first bite was just full of flavor. I love good ethnic food and this hit more than the spot. Will be back tomorrow probably lol. Idk what the sauces were by I tried and used both. Delish!! Ordered pick up from postmates, super quick and easy, walked in and grabbed it. Guy at front was very pleasant in person and on the phone when I called to verify pick up instructions. Practiced CDC protocols with face masks and plexiglass barrier at register.

I really do love this Haitian restaurant.. it's not much good Haitian spots in Broward but this is one of 'em, this spot is really a hidden gem. The customer service I can't speak for others but with every interaction I've had has been nice and pleasant. The food is well seasoned, comes out piping hot and I like that they pay attention to what you ask for. For example, I ordered Griot and asked them to please give me the fatty pieces of the meat and they did! I was too happy lol. Also the salad & tomato that comes with the Comple plates is ALWAYS fresh, Never old and I appreciate that. The only thing I wish is that they didn't give ranch with the salad and offered other dressings to choose from like French, Italian, Caesar etc. Also if you love Pikliz like me, they offer jars and I always order the jars because the small cup they give is never enough for the plates (it's a lot of food) but it's a great investment with the jars because that Pikliz be BUSSIN! It's spicy and too damn good, I literally put that shit on everything I can lol. If you're in the area, I would highly recommend them.

Turkey in sauce with black rice..good but check out the oil sitting on top of the sauce

It was my first time visiting, i went because of the reviews, i ordered the turkey in sauce with black rice. It was pretty good, except for the fact that the sauce was full of grease! Before i could eat it i had to skim the top off with a spoon and more than half of the sauce was pure oil! Please make your food a little less greasy.

It's a small, mom-and-pop-like shop which of course is the best kind of restaurant IMO. When I walked in, everything smelled amazing and all the food was covered up, which I can appreciate for cleanliness purposes. I was greeted by a smiling and upbeat Simone, who is super warm and welcoming. This was a very pleasant surprise given how my beautiful Jamaican people do not always get the best rep for customer service (IYKYK). I ordered the oxtail, rice and peas and some jerk chicken. Simon gave me a beautiful, and packed plate. The rice and peas was SOO good, I was happy just eating it by itself. The oxtail pieces were big and juicy and FALL-OFF-THE-BONE good. The cabbage had a distinct color and flavor that I LOVED. I give the overall plate a 9/10 only because I didn't get any carrots with the oxtail or sweet plantains in my order which I personally prefer and personally feel should come with oxtail meals. Also because while the jerk chicken LOOKED AMAZING and was nice enough, it didn't pack as much flavor as I would like and they didn't have a signature sauce with it (again, a personal preference, try it yourself, to see how YOU feel). Overall, this was an awesome experience. I would definitely eat here again and strongly encourage you to give it a try if you haven't yet, even just to experience the pleasure of meeting Simone.

I decided to swing by for 2 ($5.50 total) doubles. I asked the lady for extra cucumber on it (its included for free). And extra tamarind sauce. (A little more of a squirt). The lady put maybe the size of a quarter of cucumber in both. Which is 100% the normal amount. I asked for a little more in one. She put maybe the size of a dime worth more. I gave up caring. Then gave me the normal amount of sauce. The short hair manager that was sitting down eating on her phone kept hearing "extra" "little more". Regardless of the extra not actually being given. The lady got up ran over to the register to check me out and instead of it being $5.50 before tax. It was now $8.00 before tax due to her adding a "small side of cucumber". She charged me $2.50 for i swear to you 1 cent worth more of cucumber. It was the size of a dime more of shredded cucumber. The first lady didnt mention it would be extra. The manager didnt mention it and I saw it pop up on the screen for 1 second and she didnt even mention it. Im not coming back ever again. Nor am I promoting this store again. I have gotten over 100 millions views on social media in the last month and all I have to say is ive chosen to leave a yelp/google review. Its not about the $2.50. I've been eating there since they were in their original location connected to Lauderhill Mall, and no matter how many restaurants I've visited as a chef, Joy's has always felt like home. Walk through the front door and you'll see the large photo of Mr. Vishwanath "Joy" Sawh. That picture is more than decoration--it's a reminder of the man whose kindness and passion built a place that has fed generations of South Floridians. I'm grateful I had the opportunity to meet him. He was genuinely one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. And the food? Simply outstanding. Their doubles are, in my opinion, the best in Broward--soft, fresh, perfectly balanced, and packed with authentic Trinidadian flavor. It's no surprise they're one of the dishes people rave about over and over in public reviews. The curry goat is tender and deeply seasoned. The curry chicken is rich and comforting. The curry duck is phenomenal. The stew chicken tastes like it came straight from a family kitchen. Pair any of them with their flavorful rice and peas, curry potatoes, or curry chickpeas, and you understand why Joy's has built such a loyal following over the years. But believe it or not... my favorite side is the pumpkin. Funny enough, I used to never eat pumpkin. Mr. Joy himself convinced me to give it a chance, telling me how good it was for me. If you know what I mean I finally listened--and I've been hooked ever since. It's funny how the smallest conversations can stay with you forever. Don't leave without trying their homemade pepper sauce either. It brings just the right amount of heat while letting the flavors of the food shine. As an Executive Chef who's fortunate enough to eat at restaurants across South Florida, I know great food when I taste it. But what separates Joy's isn't just the cooking--it's the heart behind it. The recipes, the consistency, the culture, and the people have made this place a landmark for Trinidadian cuisine. Rest in peace, Mr. Vishwanath "Joy" Sawh. Thank you for the meals, the conversations, and the legacy you've left behind. Your name still brings people together around a table, and that's one of the greatest accomplishments anyone in the restaurant business could ever hope for. Some legacies are written in history books. Yours is written in every plate that comes out of that kitchen.
