    Shark bake
    Mikki E.

I was in the neighborhood looking for something quick to eat, and my palette decided to take a trip to Trinidad. This spot was a great find. They had a decent crowd around 1pm with a steady flow. Great tunes playing and a comfortable chill environment. I ordered the shark bake. It was made fresh to order with about a 15-minute wait time. I also got a peanut punch and Sorrell. Though it was a bit pricey, I did enjoy my meal. The service was decent. It was a bit confusing where to go after placing my order because they had multiple lines with no directions. This caused a slight confusion when I was standing in front of the doubles prep station. With that being said, I would return to try other menu items, but I'm happy with my win today.

What i enjoyed most is the ambiance. This was my second time at this establishment and the service was just as the first time. I tried some new items on the menu but I must say the veggie roti is still my favorite dish with the buss up shut. I tried some doubles from under the umbrella with slight pepper and it made me feel like I was back home. I also had the Saltfish and fried bake. And it was very flavorful. Even tried tumeric latte and it was amazing. Can't wait to see what I try next

Best in town! Authentic, friendly and quick service! I like how they have the option to create your own meal with choosing a base, protein, and toppings! I also love their saheenas when they have them available and you can never go wrong with their doubles! Tabanka can really transport you back to the island!

My first impression was the limited meat options for the roti. I had my mind really set on a beef roti only to find out that they don't carry beef. So we got a boneless chicken dhalpourie roti, a goat dhalpourie roti, and two doubles to go. Food is decent, price was nice. I'm hearing that the aloo pie is good. Maybe next time I'll try it.

Heard so much about tabanka, and was in the mood for bake and shark so I dropped in to finally check em out. Upon entering I noticed the place was bustling with diners as well as employees. Good energy and smelled great. I ordered for pick up and pick up was efficient and went smoothly. They were also very friendly and efficient. The bake and shark was very good , filling, and fresh. I look forward to returning to try their doubles, aloo pie, and roti. And also do the dine in experience as opposed to take out.

In a word: fantastic! I loved everything about this place -- from the ambiance to the food. It's located on the west side of the street. There's easy parking right out front as the shopping center/strip was not very busy when we came for lunch. Inside, you are transported to an island restaurant. Maybe a little shack on the beach or on the side of a mountain. It's dark and cool inside. You order and pay at the counter. The menu is on the wall behind the counter. You can see some of the food displayed cafeteria style from which to choose. I asked about the daily special (you should too). It was stewed chicken, and it came with two sides. We both got the special. It came with mac n cheese and choice of beans and rice. We added a side of callaloo. They put it all one plate and we got an extra plate to share. The chicken was delicious. Rich and covered in yummy brown sauce. The pieces have bones so there's no other way than to eat than with a bit of finger licking. The mac 'n cheese was a large square of baked pasta and cheese. No runny mayo here. It too was very good. The red beans were slightly sweet and went perfectly with the rice and the rest of the meal. My husband really liked his side of callaloo, as well. He said it reminded him of creamed spinach. We felt it was one of the best island meals we have ever had -- and we have been to a lot of Caribbean islands and stateside Caribbean restaurants although never to Trinidad. The portion was quite large, and we ate every bit with no leftovers. They sell a lot of doubles and we would have gotten some to try -- if we'd have room. May be next time. And I hope it's soon. There are a lot of other items on the menu that I'd like to try.

Love love love Tabanka! Closest thing to Trinidad in Florida! I could eat their doubles for days!! Their pepper sauce is so good too!! All of the food we got tasted so good- the shrimp roti, bake & shark & coconut ice cream are all so yummy too! The ambiance was so nice too with decor matching the theme and Trini vibes. I loved that soca is playing the minute you walk in! Living in Chicago, we don't have any Trini roti shops or restaurants so it felt so nice to come and check Tabanka out when visiting our family back where we grew up. Everyone there was super friendly too! I'd definitely recommend Tabanka to anyone in the FLL area and I'll definitely be returning!

My new favorite spot in Broward. I start off with the doubles which is just a burst of flavor from curry to sweet to spicy. I get the hottest one. Literally can't get anything like it elsewhere. I've gotten their roti platter of curry goat, curry potatoes and sweet potato which gave me great leftovers. Top it with their hot sauce and tamarind sauce and I'm in heaving. I love their selection of juices - limeade, mauby and I typically get a bottle of coconut water. They have some nice ice cream selection too Soursap, Rum & Raisin to end your meal or take home. Plus everything is reasonably priced and everyone is really nice. Love it here.

Nice little cozy Trinidadian place to stop by for lunch. It's a little bit of a drive coming from Fort Lauderdale beach. The workers are so kind and nice. The doubles were excellent!! Lots of flavor and price was very affordable. The decor is beautiful, good old days in the Caribbean.

Must say top tier doubles is south Florida. Roti is also a must try and is cooked to order.Be prepared the portion sizes are big and packed with flavor. Quick and fast service always. Definitely will recommend. You will also love the unique old school Trinidadian decor.we will definitely be back to try other menu items.

On a rainy day nothing hit better than some doubles and a shark and bake. The food was great the people are also great. Very homey feel. I love their decor. Restaurant is very clean. Everyone is super friendly. One of the best doubles I've had. I got the bake and shark, if you don't mind waiting you get it hot hot. The bake just come for the Tawa and the fish just fried. Can't get better than that. Delicious.

The owner came over, broke down the menu with pride, and even made sure my wife could customize her order exactly how she wanted it. It's that kind of care that caught my attention. The food? Absolutely incredible. We were told to relax, take a seat, and the food came straight to us, hot and full of flavor. They checked in, laughed with us, and made us feel right at home. The ambience was on point with sweet Caribbean music pumping, real West Indies energy in the air. They were even thoughtful enough to check if the music level was good for our kids, which says everything about their heart. Honestly, it felt like we stepped out of Florida and got teleported straight to the islands. My wife was smiling ear to ear, the kids were doing their little dances, and my belly was happy, plus I had food to take home because the portions are generous. I was more than happy to spend my money at a place that truly gets it right. The prices were well priced also. We'll definitely be back for more goat roti, bussup, and veggies. Big vibes, real flavor, authentic island experience.

However, the bara was a little tough. We could tell it was reheated. Other than that, the channa, sauces and chutneys were yummy! Will be back to try the curries!

All that to say expect a different level of service. If you have traveled internationally, you know that less touristy places that do not cater to Americans are usually the most authentic and worth visiting. The other reviews rated this place down for no AC and the wait. I rated this place based on those factors too. Let's talk about it. First time here, and we really enjoyed the food. My husband is from the same country and told me the food is excellent and authentic. I really appreciated the cleanliness of the location too. Food Pholouri 12 pieces of soft deep-fried dough. Reminds me a bit of Brazilian cheese bread. Boneless Chicken, something I forgot. Roti dough is similar to naan bread and pita bread. Comes with soft chicken breast chunks and chickpeas mixture inside a soft roti. Made fresh, and it was delicious. The owner sat and chatted with us, and we learned a lot about her and her family. Made Fresh She makes everything fresh and on the stop to ensure the highest quality. Her menu is simple, only a few items, and she wants to make them fresh, which at times means it will take a minute. Spicy level? She only adds spicy if you want it. She makes it without because it is easier to add than to remove the spicy level. No AC Her husband passed a few years ago from living in the cold. They spent their last few years together in South Florida. The weather is similar to her hometown, so she doesn't turn on the AC. The fans blow, and it is cool enough. If you go in with the right expectations, it is enjoyable. Tipping Also, she didn't allow us to tip when we paid. She clicked no tip and gave us our receipt. Overall, it was a lovely experience, and it might not be ideal for visiting on a really hot, busy day. Still, any other day I say give it a go. If they had AC this place would be 5 stars hands down.

Shalama's Roti Shop offers traditional Trinidadian food items such as roti (chicken, vegetable, beef), doubles, phoulorie, aloo pie, and much more at reasonable prices. I greeted a male employee who took my order of stew chicken, one double with tamarind sauce and cucumber chutney, and one dhalpourie roti. My food was given to me within a few minutes. I started with the double which was delicious. The barra had a nice texture as it was filled with curried channa, complemented by the tamarind sauce and cucumber chutney. The stew chicken was served with a small salad, rice and peas, and boiled vegetables. Everything was well-prepared, especially the dhalpourie roti. In my opinion, I feel the food is not filling, as I was looking to eat again after an hour. Other than that, Shalama's Roti Shop is a decent place. Located in the Coral Springs Plaza, Priya's Roti Shop has the look and feel of a true West Indian shop serving homemade Trinidadian foods such as various curry or stew meats, cook to order roti (paratha or dhalpourie), phoulourie, bake & shark, doubles, and so much more. There's also homemade sweets & beverages, as well as various bottles of hot pepper sauce, spices, split channa, kuchela, and other Caribbean beverages. I was greeted by a gentleman with a nice Trinidadian accent. I kindly asked for a menu while he tended to the other customers. The prices range from low to moderate. Lord I wish I could get a bit of everything off the menu, but I will just stick to what I mainly wanted - roti. When the gentleman was ready to take my order, I told him I wanted boneless curry chicken which was served with my choice of dhalpourie roti and curry potato. I also ordered six doubles and a bottle of mauby. There was a bit of a wait cause the roti had to be made, which I didn't mind at all. Then he made the doubles. I watched him as he laid down two bara (flatbread) then scooped some curried channa (chick peas) on each, topping them with tamarind and cucumber chutney. Once the food was ready, I took everything to an available table and your girl was in foodie heaven. I started with one of the doubles which was absolutely delicious! The flavors of the curried channa and both chutneys complemented each other nicely, and the barra had a yummy texture...moving on...the curry chicken and potato was also delicious and flavorful with a mild pepper kick. At times I broke pieces of the roti to pick up some chicken and/or potato like a true islander. The atmosphere was truly relaxing with Indian music softly playing in the background. I was casually drinking the mauby which was lightly sweet and refreshing. I am definitely looking forward on coming back to try other foods, especially the bake & shark.
