    Authentic fresh Fante Kenkey!
    Hawa S.

A classic Ghanaian delicacy that never disappoints! Fante Kenkey is a must-try for lovers of authentic Ghanaian cuisine. Its delicate balance of tanginess, softness, and deep-rooted tradition makes it a standout dish. The plantain leaves impart a subtle earthy fragrance, enhancing the flavor and giving me the nostalgic feeling of being home in Ghana. Thank you Sankofa Kitchen International for bringing delicious authentic Ghanaian food such as this Fante Kenkey to South Florida!

Okra Stew, Banku and sorrel for two!

Sankofa - An Ghanaian eatery in West Broward Parking: actually, you don't need parking. The establishment is kitchen only. So you order ahead and when you arrive, they bring the food out to your car. Drinks: we had the traditional sorrel and it was rich, delicious and well priced! Food: We both had Okra Stew with Banku. It was authentic and largely delicious. We would have liked more flavor. Not more salt, just more spices. The menu offered a host of authentic dishes from Ghana. I'd say this is the best you can get in South Florida Service: The Owner, a Ghanaian, was extremely nice and patient with us asking questions over the phone. Atmosphere/vibe: it is takeout only so no comment on vibe... Age group: same as above... Bathroom: same as above.... Return: For sure! Especially when craving authentic African food

The food was wonderful from start to finish, and the atmosphere made the experience even more special. There was something about the ambiance that took me right back to France, to those moments of breaking bread with my North African friends, surrounded by warmth, conversation, and the kind of hospitality that makes a place feel familiar the moment you walk in. I felt right at home. Fatima deserves special recognition. She was so kind to me and made me feel completely welcome. Her presence was gentle, warm, and sincere, and it elevated the entire experience. It honestly felt like I was being looked after at my Moroccan auntie's house. That kind of feeling cannot be faked, and it means a great deal. As for the food, it was amazing. The pastilla with chicken and almonds, dusted with sugar and cinnamon, was absolutely delicious, with that beautiful balance of savory richness and gentle sweetness that makes the dish so memorable. The msemmen was warm, comforting, and deeply satisfying. The merguez tajine was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. The Moroccan harira had that soulful, nourishing quality that makes a great soup feel like part of the heart of the meal. The zaalouk was excellent as well, rich and flavorful and a perfect addition to everything else on the table. Dar Tajine gave us more than a meal. It gave us an experience filled with warmth, flavor, generosity, and heart. The food was amazing, the hospitality was genuine, and Fatima made a lasting impression. This place deserves real praise, and I would gladly return.

One thing I don't like is when I order at a place and no one comes to check in or offer a 2nd round of drinks. But the drinks were super expensive compared to other spots/lounges on the Boulevard. The Smokey old fashioned tasted like it was made with a mixed drink kit and they just had to add water. The drink I got was also pretty watered down tasting and also $16 each. I would have liked to see what else they offered, but I'm not sure overall that it's worth it. Food: I ordered an appetizer of plantains done "tapas" style which were awesome (9/10) and my boyfriend got the skewered steak but for some reason, they had to warn us it's not on a skewer after all and asked if we still wanted it. Well it practically looked like a plate of sides (cut up onions, tomatoes and beef) that someone would build a pita or some kind of taco (3/10). Was not worth $17. Should have come with some bread or starch, but that was extra. Ambiance: Music was fine but again, we were outside so it's hard to tell what it would be like from the inside. I just wish they could price their drinks and meals closer to other places in the area. I could have gotten a HUGE plate of shrimp nachos or 2 happy hour apps or 2 drinks from anywhere else for the price of 1 item from here. Speaking of which, it appears Happy Hour is 2 days or the week? Hopefully they will be a little more active online and I'll have a reason to return....Kwanzaa?? ‍!

While the (small) dance floor was empty, over the time of just dancing to the music it filled out and got fun. The DJs know what they're doing! Can't wait to go back.

I should've came months ago when he told me because I've been missing out. My boyfriend and I popped in on a Sunday shortly after they opened and were immediately greeted by a smiling, friendly woman wearing a Florida Panthers (Go Cats!) shirt so I already knew I was going to enjoy this place. The inside is super clean, organized and really easy to order. They have some tables outside, however we were planning on eating them down by the beach. As we stood there trying to decide which pies we wanted, she was sooo patient with us. Then, along came another smiling, friendly gentleman and I asked them both for help picking my third pie because I simply couldn't decide. We went with the chicken curry, lamb curry and beef steak (having to refrain myself from buying more)! Holy molyyyyyy these pies are beyondddd delicious. This is probably the only time I'll admit that the more crumbs I had on my shirt, the better! I have never tasted a more flaky, buttery, perfectly baked pastry like that in my life! The filling inside of each pie was fresh, hot, and absolutely made with LOVE! Both the chicken and lamb meat were sooo tender it made it so easy to enjoy; each bite we kept saying to each other: "wow!! this is good!!!" I'm kicking myself for not going back for more on my way home, but I cannot wait to visit again and SOON. This spot is truly one of a kind and I'll be thinking about these pies until I get back over there to try more of the options they have. I will be recommending this spot to any person I get the chance to tell! Yum yum yum!

I also purchased Crunchie candy bars and a small bag of Flings which are shaped like cheese curls. The Flings have a unique flavor and I like it. If you like feta and spinach, I do recommend you to try. I will be going back.

The restaurant is always kept spotless, and it's a wonderful spot for a date night. Do note, that this food is best eaten with your hands--so keep that in mind if you're taking a first date here who has never had Ethiopian food! This restaurant is right next to the train tracks on Dixie Highway, so it can get a little noisy at times when the trains pass through, but it didn't effect our overall experiences. My most recent visit was for my birthday, where I had a lovely dinner with my fiancé. We had some red wine, both the lentil and beef sambusas, and we shared the Taste of Red Sea platter. Sambusas: these are always a great appetizer. If you love empanadas, Indian samosas, or any kind of meat patty, you'll love these. There is the option of having either lentil or beef, we got an order of each. The sambusas are fried perfectly, with the right amount of crunch. The fillings are seasoned gently to where it tastes great on its own, but eating it with the sauce it comes with makes it even better. Don't skip the sauce! Taste of Red Sea: This is the perfect dish if you don't know what to order. Just get a bit of everything and don't be afraid to get your hands dirty! They have a hand washing station (separate from the restrooms!) for this exact reason. Everything tastes better when you eat it with your hands. It's a scientific fact. Now, with this platter they normally do not do any substitutions, but the staff was flexible and able to accommodate me this time because I happen to have a split pea allergy. So we substituted the split peas for some cooked kale. Everything was fabulous, cooked and seasoned amazingly. Pairing each part of the platter with the injera is pure heaven. It's so fun trying different combinations of the lentils, veggies, and meats. The best part is getting to eat the injera at the bottom of the platter that's got all of the sauces soaked into it from all of the meat and veggies that were on top of it. I love Ethiopian food and am always excited to come across a new Ethiopian restaurant since they are less common. I hope Red Sea is around for a while!

The restaurant is really pretty and intimate inside, so it's a perfect date night spot. Our server was very polite and informative on the menu. I don't want to provide any negative remarks, so please just review the photos to see how lovely everything looks.
