This is my updated review after 9 years. Since COVID, I've mostly ordered takeout because whenever I dined in, the place never felt very inviting. Lately, though, I've noticed more people eating in, so we've gone back a few times over the past couple of years. Dosa is my favorite, and since it's something you really need to eat right away, dining in makes sense. We've tried gobi Manchurian and a variety of other dishes, but dosa is still my favorite. Unfortunately, the service is basically nonexistent. No one checks in to see how things are. The last time I ordered a masala soda, it was terrible. I tried getting the server's attention but no one came over. I ended up paying $5 for something I didn't even drink. When it was time to pay, I waved for the check and was told to come up and pay instead. Why I tipped, I honestly don't know--I wasn't happy about that at all. That said, the food is generally good. The sambar wasn't great on our most recent visit a few days ago, but overall the restaurant is always clean and the prices are reasonable. I'll be back, but I really hope the owner or manager reads these reviews and understands that customer service truly makes a difference. read more

After a week of Florida adventures, I was craving for Indian and thank god I was able to find this authentic Indian restaurant - Woodlands Express. My order: Chole bhatura Hakka noodles Gobi Manchurian Loved the chole masala! I could have just eaten it by itself. The poori became cold but still it was tasty and felt good. We're vegetarians yet we havent been there in several years. Woodlands was always very good. And this time, with the family celebrating Mothers Day, they didnt let us down. The atmosphere is casual and clean. We were seated almost immediately, and served their cold filtered water. We ordered a full selection of southern Indian dishes along with their fresh baked naan and other breads, and of course a mango lassi. Everything arrived at the table within 10-15 minutes and each dish had a unique taste & was delicious. The service was excellent. No need to wait years - we'll be back again soon. read more

The paper masala dosa was thin, crisp, and generously filled, served with flavorful chutneys and sambar. The idli were soft and fresh. The chana bhatura was the standout -- the chana was perfectly spiced, rich, and full of flavor, and the bhatura was soft and fluffy. Easily one of the best chana bhatura we've had. Simple presentation and authentic flavors made the food really enjoyable. However, I'm giving 4 stars because the dishes didn't come out together -- one dish arrived much earlier, and there was a noticeable wait before the others were served. read more

Since we're traveling to Florida, this was a struggle to find an Indian restaurant who caters south Indian food. We looked around and found this place to be Catering a perfect blend of south Indian Indo Chinese vegetarian food as soon as we entered the restaurant you get a feel of being in India somewhere they have very beautiful ambience. The place was very neat and clean as well. I spoke for a few minutes with the manager to understand what were the best dishes that I can order based on my liking recommended a bunch of things which we didn't have time to wait and eat so we ended up taking it to go their service for super good they made sure that the food doesn't get cold and they packed independently and individually in different boxes. They were very courteous to add some extra chutney and some other other items with it. It was super full a heavy bag of food. We were visiting the Miami area & were hungry for some South Indian food. We were expecting a lot given what we had heard about this place from our friends who are local to south Florida. I'm not sure if it was an off day for them - bit of a disappointment I'm afraid. For instance, I was told that the momos were their specialty but they were ok at best. Indian in Lauderhill! Parking here is easy as it is in a strip mall that doesn't have a ton of shops. It does not look like a fancy restaurant but don't let that fool you. The food is authentic and delicious! We had the sampler as it was our first time. All of the dishes were delicious! They have a great pepper sauce you can ask for on the side. The staff is friendly - appears to be mostly family as you see little kids and babies running toward the back area. We came here for lunch because I wanted to try their dosas. We ordered their Masala dosa, Mysore spicy dosa and North Indian thali. Service was fast but most of the servers do not speak English, which is not good. They also forgot to give me Rassam with the dosa while another table got it. The inside is nothing special in terms of the ambiance, and they do need to work on hiring better staff. I have been here few times before and found the south Indian food good but today we were disappointed. We ordered 3 Masala dosa, 1 sambar vada and one butter paneer... The sambar tasted nothing like sambar. It tasted more like tomato soup as there were no spices and dal that brings out the taste in authentic sambar. I recently visited the Lauderhill location of Woodlands Indian Cuisine and had a disappointing experience. Upon entering, I held the door for another customer, and even though I was ahead of her in line, she was served first. It seemed to me that because she spoke the same language as the staff, she was given priority. When I addressed this with the man at the counter, he acknowledged that I was there first but still refused to take my payment before hers. I felt overlooked and disappointed by how the situation was handled. I understand that this may have been an isolated incident, but it left a negative impression on me. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I don't plan on returning. If you are any other race other than Indian, do not come to this place because they will not make you feel welcome and they will always put their people first. I just want to start off by saying I'm not even close to being vegetarian lol. The flavor and taste was off the charts! This meal was better than a lot meals I had that weren't vegetarian. I was nervous to try it because I'm not vegetarian nor am I familiar with Indian cuisine. Everything was really really good and we tried an assortment of things. The thali was really good but the Manchurian was my favorite. The curry options in the thali were really good. The restaurant wasn't packed but our waiter was nice and attentive even though the staff didn't speak much English. It was clean and spacious. We sat at a booth. We had an average experience here. The food was good but not stellar. There was a bit of a language barrier with the Spanish speaking staff, but we eventually got thru it; however some of our questions about the Indian menu did not get answered. Also, there was not a lunch buffet on the Friday that we went, which would have been nice to try some of the different menu items since the staff couldn't relay what some of them were. For the price, I would go to one of the other Indian restaurants in the area like Kababi's, Curry Cafe, or Arun's Kitchen. read more

This place hits the spot every time I come here. Can't confirm if it's the most authentic/best South Indian food ever but it's 10/10 for me at least. Got the Mysore Masala dosa & I'd def recommend it. It tastes incredible and has a good amount of spice in it! I wish there was more Aloo in it but a girl can always dream. Sambar is also just as good! I'd recommend getting the chai to end the meal with. You can taste the ginger and it's a perfect way to end the meal. I have been going to Woodlands for over 15 years now and hands down, it's the best south Indian cuisin in the area. Their food is authentic and SO flavorful. Their dosas, samosas, and chana masala are off the charts! The chutneys and sauces are so delicious. Even if you aren't a vegetarian you will love the food. Admittedly the decor and ambiance leave a lot to be desired & ownership/management has changed but the food is consistently good, I've never had a bad dish!
