I actually had to spoon a lot of it out before I could even start eating. Even after that, I felt pretty sick afterward. The spices were okay, but there was zero heat--very Americanized version of Indian food. The dal makhani was also disappointing: bland, overly buttery, and lacking any real texture. My husband and I were big fans of this restaurant when it was on Andrews Avenue (and I worked nearby). We lost track of it and just discovered its new location in Oakland Park. We went for lunch on a Monday and were the only diners for the hour or so we were there. The place is large, seating at least 80. And servers are very attentive. We had the 1/2 chicken tandoori and the lamb kadhai, both medium spicy. And of course, an order of naan. The dishes were brought to our table by the chef with the tandoori sizzling and the kadhai hot. They were accompanied by rice and a tray of four different sauces. (My favorite is always the tamarind chutney. I especially like it on my naan, after the meal, as a sweet treat.) The tandoori was tasty and moist. The kadhai was a wee bit dry and a tad salty. Nevertheless, the flavors still were good with thin strips of ginger used as a garnish on top. There is no buffet and no lunch menu. The meal with 2 entrees and an order of naan with tax and tip was $47. Be warned: There is a more than 3% surcharge to use a credit card. Since they were charging more than we would make from the credit card for the purchase, and we had just enough cash, we opted to pay with cash. read more

The service was excellent. The entire time our server was very attentive and offered a few recommendations. We started with the pea samosas which were very strong in flavor and spices but very good. I also ordered the garlic naan which OMG I could have a dozen. I had to order extra to go. For main we shared the lamb chops and the lamb Rogan Josh which were both delicious. Went to Bombay Cafe for the first time yesterday and I think I found my new fav Indian restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious and arrived hot. The food looked so good, I totally forgot to take pictures of the entrees I got (paneer bhurji and palak kofta). I have a hard time finding a good Indian restaurant because many times I feel as if the various gravies taste the same or have a lot of sweetness added however, this was not the case for Bombay cafe. For those who used to go to their old location on Andrews Avenue (I never did and their sign is still up there), this will be a bit of a change. It's now on the south side of Oakland Park Bvd where the former Peruvian restaurant was located. Parking is easy out front. There's no real ambiance inside here, but you won't miss it. There's no lunch buffet (which they used to have) and no separate lunch menu. They have the same menu for lunch and dinner. That being said, what we ordered was wonderfully delicious. My husband got their lamb Rogan Josh. I ordered their chicken tikka masala. Both come with white rice. And he added an order of garlic naan. Both entrees came out piping hot with the tenderest chunks of meat in their savory sauces. The server hadn't asked for a spice level. The rogan josh was a tad more peppery than the tikka masala. Both had a depth of spices, however. We both really liked our meals. My husband had about a third left and took it home. I had eaten all the chicken in mine, but also took the sauce home along with some leftover rice. (We added some more meat to the sauces and had it again for dinner that night). So glad we got to try this restaurant. And sorry we didn't come sooner to their former location. read more

This location is a big change from their former place on N. Andrews. It has a much more open and modern feel, and the place looks spotless. Based on their new website, we came on Wednesday for their daily luncheon buffet. We were disappointed there was no buffet, and the waiter even claimed it doesn't say so (we had to show it to him). Lunch and dinner apparently uses the same menu and prices. There is a pretty large selection of Indian vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes, and even Indo-Chinese. I selected Lamb Vindaloo and my two friends both ordered Tandoori Chicken. The vindaloo was creamy, tasty and just the right amount of spice and heat. The lamb chunks were cooked nice and tender. The chicken came in sizzling platters. The white pieces were bit dry, but the dark pieces were perfect. The naan was great, and the condiment assortment added to the enjoyment of the meal. While we didn't get a buffet, we did get fresh made-to-order dishes and not over-cooked food in steamers. read more

My sister who absolutely loves this place took me here for dinner. We ordered some garlic naan, lamb vindaloo, chicken and shrimp. The lamb vindaloo was my favorite!! The meat was tender and soft. The sauce was delicious and it came with plenty of rice. This definitely amazing comfort food. Each dish had its own distinctive flavor. The garlic naan was an excellent side, warm and delicious. We washed it down with some Taj Mahal. The service was great, answered all our questions, made excellent recommendations and was very kind throughout our entire experience. My coworkers and I came here for lunch thinking there was a lunch buffet - there isn't. But that's ok! We sat down and ordered some onion bread and naan along with our entrees. They had many vegan and vegetarian options along with lamb, goat, fish, shrimp and chicken. They even had a section of the menu that was indo-Chinese! I went with a classic chana masala while my coworkers ordered chicken tikka masala and aloo gobi. The chana masala was so good!!! A little on the spicier side but amazing! The baby was hungry & starting to get cranky so we asked the owner to bring is some rice just to keep her calm. 40 mins go by, the baby ate all of her rice & we see our food is no where in sight. Suddenly we see the guy from the back coming with a tray of food but he's not coming towards our table. He is serving the table next to us that arrived 20mins after we did. Obviously we were upset. We were waited on pretty soon after that and were brought some type of tortilla chip with different dipping sauces. I wish I would've caught the name! We ordered garlic naan to start and it was amazing - so delicious! I ordered the chicken tika massala and my friend ordered the chicken madras. They were both a pretty big portion and definitely filled us up. However, the meal itself was okay. I've definitely had better at other restaurants but it was still good. The workers were very friendly and accommodating and that's always refreshing when going to a restaurant. I would come back but maybe get something else next time. Also! If you like Indian food, this is a hidden gem! A small intimate place with some fantastic food! Once you walk in and smell the aroma, it already tantalizes your taste buds. I also appreciated the artwork and decor. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. However I think today provided a challenge for them being Valentine's Day. So the service was a bit slow. By recommendation of our waitress, we had the Chicken Tikka and Chicken Jhalfrezi with the Garlic Naan accompanied by a red wine. Everything was absolutely delicious! We love Bombay Cafe! They have a lunch buffet during the week and dinner buffets on Wednesday and Sunday nights. Their buffet has plenty of vegetarian options. Along with the dinner buffet they bring fresh naan and simmering chicken to the table (I'm vegetarian, but my husband loves the chicken). Delicious desserts included with the buffet--we always leave stuffed and happy! The dining area is large enough that we typically never have to wait for a table. They have a more private room to the back where large groups can have some space. The staff is kind and courteous.
