Pretty good in general, very good for the price. Joojeh Kabob was moist, tender, and had solid flavor. Most Jooj in the DC area is either too dry, skimpy on the safron, or both. Not here. Koobideh was also very tender and juicy. Flavor was slightly different than I'm used to, but not in a bad way. Seems to be sumac in the kabob by default, so probably keep that in mind if you have an allergy. Both dishes were served over an enormous amount of rice and with a grilled tomato, and with some fresh bread. The staff was quick to hook me up with some raw onion and sumac on the side once I asked. Price wise, it looks similar to Moby Dick pricing, and my experience was better than any recent Moby experience to be sure. Menu is fairly extensive for a casual spot, bordering on ambitious, so I'll be back to try more. Staff is super friendly and making a clear effort to go above and beyond. They hooked us up with quite a few extras on the house, and were extremely energetic and attentive. The place is very new, so it makes sense for the owners to want to butter up the community to get into their good graces, but if the level of service, price point, and food quality all stay consistent, I don't have any problem handing out a 5 star review. read more

As a big middle-Eastern food fan, I was excited to try this place and I wasn't disappointed. Their eggplant and okra stew with fresh bread is my new favorite thing to eat after a swim at Wilson pool. Their chicken fesenjan in a sweet walnut sauce is also really good but too much for me (their entrees are really enough for two people). My family is kind of picky when it comes to kabobs (kabobs are part of our culture). And let's face it, there are a lot of bad kabobs in the greater DC area. We are very happy with Maman Joon! The chicken kabobs in saffron will be our regular go to dish for sure...they are juicy and tasty. The koobideh beef kabobs are large and delicious. The cannellini bean salad is nicely balanced and very fresh tasting, as was the tabbouleh! The rice is perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the falafel is fluffy and light! Overall the portions are a good value, especially compared to other kabob places that overcharge for small amounts. And the flat bread? Our daughter, who is very picky about her bread, was eating it up. The sauces were a perfect addition as well. We are definitely looking forward to trying other items on their menu. So glad they are in Tenleytown, as the Chevy Chase area really needed this style of restaurant. The other kabob spots in the area not so great, and the Olive Bistro Cafe (Turkish restaurant), which had awesome food, unfortunately closed (they chose a bad location). read more

This place is fantastic! Years and years ago there was a great place in Bethesda called Villa Gourmet and ever since they closed there just haven't been great kabobs around-- until now! We ordered the family combo for two and the portions were incredibly generous. The koobideh kabob (both beef and chicken) were insanely flavorful and juicy. They melted in our mouths and we couldn't eat them fast enough. We also got the dolmeh which were fine but probably our least favorite thing and the hummus which was more runny than I'd like but the flavor was wonderful. The homemade bread with hummus was a great combo! I love that they make their own bread, it was chewy and delicious unlike other places where the bread is always dry. They recently opened so I think they're still getting their flow down and as a result things were a little chaotic. But the staff could not have been nicer or more friendly. We will definitely be returning frequently! So glad to have this place in DC. read more

They messed up my order and then when I brought it to their attention, they were not apologetic at all and instead overcharged me to fix it. I was impressed by my first visit to Maman Joon, the new Iranian restaurant on Wisconsin Ave NW in Tenleytown. The food was superb, from the eggplant appetizer, called Kashke Batemjan, to the delicious lubia polo--a Persian-style rice and vegetable dish- to the very special Fesenjan, a pomegranate, walnut and chicken dish. Living in the Washington DC area I've had lots of Iranian food but nothing like this. The restaurant is small and cozy, but the food is as good or even better than the more expensive Iranian restaurants in Georgetown or Northern Virginia. And the owner was so warm and welcoming, just like the food. Can't wait to return! read more
