The food here is really good and the staff is very friendly. We ordered the filet mignon, lamb, and chicken kabob. All were good, but the chicken was hands down the best one. It was very well flavored. If you want to try this place out, order the chicken kabob. You won't be disappointed. read more

I went there not having any expectations, just another kabob place. Once I tried their food, I was surprised how tasty it was: fresh, succulent, savory. I strongly recommend this place. It has a big variety of choice for everyone. And I'm pretty sure you'll come there again and again! read more

Visited this place many times before and they have the best food in town, Peter is very nice and helpful. Love the location food and staff personalities. Try them out and see it yourself. Thank you Peter for your great customer service. read more

Food is fresh and meat is juicy. Very clean and well plated! Owner is extremely nice. Highly recommend if you want good Persian food

Delicious food! We ordered via Door Dash and the food was packaged so smartly and thoughtfully.

Maman Joon Tenleytown has the best hummus I've ever tasted from anywhere in the world. Not just DC. A high grade olive oil must be used to give it that distinct flavor. The consistency is so smooth and the garbanza beans (I learned, because I asked) are soaked and cooked in-house rather than being procured as a paste from a restaurant supplier. Persian (Iranian) cuisine is known for its crispy rice (tadig). You have to pay careful attention to the menu because you will find hidden gems there. They do offer tadig!!!! There are also stews (hard to identify on the menu and should be their own category). So much here than just kabobs! It took me several visits to figure this out. Fesenjan (chicken stew with pomegranate walnut sauce), Okra Eggplant stew, and beef stew etc! Plus, many ingredients sourced from Iran like special limes. This looks like fast food (and its location gives that impression) but it is not. It is all slowly, carefully. and lovingly simmered. If it were somewhere else and had white linen tablecloths Maman Joon would be considered fine dining. read more

What a great find ! Owner opera, very friendly & everything was outstanding. A terrific addition to the neighborhood. So reasonably priced too. Lamb, beef & vegetarian dishes we had were all outstanding. Hint: try the liquid dough--delicious ! read more

service was wack food was good but they gave us all the same thing and we all ordered something different, then they doubled down. did not appreciate the gaslighting. the atmosphere was cute but that was about it. and my friend found hair in his food which was gross but we still ate it. read more

Great place for Persian food had it delivered by Uber Eats I am visiting DC from Delaware high recommended this restaurant for Persian cuisine. I had the nd the Dolems both were delicious I haven't had Ghorme Sabzi since my late mama bozorg used to make it for us on family gatherings I loved Ghorme Sabzi it was fantastic read more

Clean, yummy, and great service .Can be busy on the weekend n you have to wait a little.

Pretty good in general, very good for the price. Joojeh Kabob was moist, tender, and had solid flavor. Most Jooj in the DC area is either too dry, skimpy on the safron, or both. Not here. Koobideh was also very tender and juicy. Flavor was slightly different than I'm used to, but not in a bad way. Seems to be sumac in the kabob by default, so probably keep that in mind if you have an allergy. Both dishes were served over an enormous amount of rice and with a grilled tomato, and with some fresh bread. The staff was quick to hook me up with some raw onion and sumac on the side once I asked. Price wise, it looks similar to Moby Dick pricing, and my experience was better than any recent Moby experience to be sure. Menu is fairly extensive for a casual spot, bordering on ambitious, so I'll be back to try more. Staff is super friendly and making a clear effort to go above and beyond. They hooked us up with quite a few extras on the house, and were extremely energetic and attentive. The place is very new, so it makes sense for the owners to want to butter up the community to get into their good graces, but if the level of service, price point, and food quality all stay consistent, I don't have any problem handing out a 5 star review. read more

We stopped here due to a very high rating and it held up very well. We spoke to the owner Peter and he was very hospitable and friendly. The food was very authentic and delicious. Peter came out and spoke to us and even gave us some foods to try complimentary. They had great customer service. Even the cashier, Alma helped us and answered our questions. I would definitely recommend this place and come here again. read more

Great food and hospitality. Authentic and fresh Persian food. Will certainly go here again

Good food, fast service and clean environment. Soltani is great and of course the fresh bread.

Excellent food and great service. They roast the kabobs over the fire and everything I've had here is delicious and for a great price. Very friendly staff here as well. Highly recommend read more

Overall terrible kabobs and not good Persian cooking techniques. The food lacked any robust flavor. The photos posted on Yelp are stock images from other websites. read more

My family is kind of picky when it comes to kabobs (kabobs are part of our culture). And let's face it, there are a lot of bad kabobs in the greater DC area. We are very happy with Maman Joon! The chicken kabobs in saffron will be our regular go to dish for sure...they are juicy and tasty. The koobideh beef kabobs are large and delicious. The cannellini bean salad is nicely balanced and very fresh tasting, as was the tabbouleh! The rice is perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the falafel is fluffy and light! Overall the portions are a good value, especially compared to other kabob places that overcharge for small amounts. And the flat bread? Our daughter, who is very picky about her bread, was eating it up. The sauces were a perfect addition as well. We are definitely looking forward to trying other items on their menu. So glad they are in Tenleytown, as the Chevy Chase area really needed this style of restaurant. The other kabob spots in the area not so great, and the Olive Bistro Cafe (Turkish restaurant), which had awesome food, unfortunately closed (they chose a bad location). read more

Really delicious Persian food and amazing prices! The koobideh was well-seasoned and juicy, and I couldn't believe the portion size given the price! Looking forward to eating here again! read more

Great food and wonderful service the meal for 3-4 people was not enough for 4 adults and one child (we even supplemented with two stews) delicious food and fantastic service read more

Good effort from a relative new-comer to the area. Food is tasty, rice is up to standards, meat is tender. Easily compares to Persian food in Los Angeles, home of the largest Persian community outside of Iran. Good prices, especially considering the community where they operate. read more

This place is fantastic! Years and years ago there was a great place in Bethesda called Villa Gourmet and ever since they closed there just haven't been great kabobs around-- until now! We ordered the family combo for two and the portions were incredibly generous. The koobideh kabob (both beef and chicken) were insanely flavorful and juicy. They melted in our mouths and we couldn't eat them fast enough. We also got the dolmeh which were fine but probably our least favorite thing and the hummus which was more runny than I'd like but the flavor was wonderful. The homemade bread with hummus was a great combo! I love that they make their own bread, it was chewy and delicious unlike other places where the bread is always dry. They recently opened so I think they're still getting their flow down and as a result things were a little chaotic. But the staff could not have been nicer or more friendly. We will definitely be returning frequently! So glad to have this place in DC. read more

Restaurant just opened about a week ago, great meal, wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Highly recommend the chicken kabob, beef koobideh and the fesenjan. They also suggested the beef chenjeh but they were out for the day when we went. The interior has been nicely redone and there are several tables outside as well. read more

About time a place like this opened with great kabobs. I love their chicken kabob. It's best in town. Juicy and seasoned to perfection.

Very clean but the actual food is not the same what they have in the app. I like the cleanliness.

Really wanted to like this place but their customer service was terrible. I know they're still new and working out the kinks but my visit today was a pretty bad experience and inexcusable. They messed up my order and then when I brought it to their attention, they were not apologetic at all and instead overcharged me to fix it. The food is just okay so it doesn't make up for the terrible customer service. I won't be back. read more

As a big middle-Eastern food fan, I was excited to try this place and I wasn't disappointed. Their eggplant and okra stew with fresh bread is my new favorite thing to eat after a swim at Wilson pool. Their chicken fesenjan in a sweet walnut sauce is also really good but too much for me (their entrees are really enough for two people). This place reminds me of places in NYC, as I think another poster also said. Good food, good value, and quick. Not something I am used to in DC so I hope it sticks around! read more

The food here was incredible. The flavors and quality of their dishes shine amongst other Persian restaurants in the DMV. It honestly tastes like it's been cooked right at home. Aside from their delicious food, the customer service I received was impeccable. Sayeed (I hope the spelling is correct) was a gem. Run, do not walk to Maman Joon!! read more

My son changed his mind 3 times before settling on the Koobideh Sandwich; he absolutely swooned after taking his first bite. He swears it's the best sandwich he's ever eaten. We also ordered the chicken kabob entree; the chicken was insanely good, so juicy and flavorful. Such a fun and friendly staff and excellent customer service. We can't wait to go back for more...and are looking forward to when they begin serving from their amazing Milkshake Menu. read more

Deliciously authentic Persian food in DC! Besides the taste, it's GENEROUS portioning that makes Maman Joon authentic. It all comes from Alex's warm personality, welcoming smile, and family-like and honest hospitality. As Angelenos, we have wide and easy access to high-quality Persian cuisine in LA and I have to say that Alex's food is nothing short of LA restaurants. I am really glad we found Maman Joon and enjoyed DC's Persian food during our short stay here. The 40-minute trip was totally worth it. read more

Maman Joon - Nice, clean, fresh, you get it hot and it's grilled in front of you! A place where you get your moneys worth. Love it! - Mediterranean Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

I was impressed by my first visit to Maman Joon, the new Iranian restaurant on Wisconsin Ave NW in Tenleytown. The food was superb, from the eggplant appetizer, called Kashke Batemjan, to the delicious lubia polo--a Persian-style rice and vegetable dish- to the very special Fesenjan, a pomegranate, walnut and chicken dish. Living in the Washington DC area I've had lots of Iranian food but nothing like this. The restaurant is small and cozy, but the food is as good or even better than the more expensive Iranian restaurants in Georgetown or Northern Virginia. And the owner was so warm and welcoming, just like the food. Can't wait to return! read more

Excellent Persian food! The kabob koubideh (ground beef kabob) is my favorite kabob there. It is delicious! I enjoyed the fresh bread that is made on site. I couldn't stop eating the white rice! It was so light and aromatic. The staff is very courteous. Will definitely return for more. read more
