Green Onion Pancake
Bella S.

I grew up in the SGV area so have been to the original Mama Lu's Dumpling House many times before. This location is one of their newer locations. They do have their own private lot on the side of the restaurant, but you have to pay like a lot of places in the West L.A. area. Personally, I am still biased towards the original location as I just feel the food served at the Alhambra location is the most authentic. The restaurant is quite spacious and the decor matched the type of food served. What I found to be cute was the hanger in the ladies restroom is in the shape of a lobster, matching their seafood theme. 1. Peking Duck (4/5) You can order half-order or full order. We got the half-order which came with 4 fluffy and pillowy steamed buns. I'd say the half-order is perfect portion for 2-3 people to share. The duck was cooked well; meat was tender and the skin was crispy. Comes with a side of freshly sliced cucumber, green onions and peking duck sauce. The peking duck sauce was a bittersweet too thick and bitter for my liking, hence I knocked off a star here. 2. Pork Soup Dumpling aka Xiao Long Bao (3/5) Each order only comes with 6 dumplings, which I thought was pretty skimpy for the price. The dumplings were decently juicy, but dough was on the thicker side and the meat filling was a bit lackluster in flavor and texture. I've definitely had much better XLB elsewhere. 3. Green Onion Pancake (4/5) Pretty decent green onion pancake that's fried to a perfect crisp and had a good balance between dough and green onions. I liked the garlic soy sauce they serve it with. 4. Fried Coconut Bun w/ Condensed Milk (4/5) These little unhealthy, but super delicious fried coconut buns reminds me of my childhood. Something about Chinese bread dough gives it that floral/coconut-like fragrance. Dip these perfectly fried buns in some sweet condensed milk, you will have yourself a treat. Please NOTE - eat these quick and fresh because if you let it sit out for too long, it gets hard as rock. 5. Shanghai Rice Cake (4/5) One of the better rice cakes I've had. The rice cakes were cooked to perfect chewiness and seasoned decently well. It contains shredded pork, green peas, cabbage and carrots. I personally felt something was missing within the seasoning though that could've brought the flavor out even more. 6. Garlic Chinese Broccoli (5/5) Chinese broccoli is unique in that it does not resemble the typical broccoli you would think of. It has a thick stalk with a very soft, leafy top. They cooked this well and the garlic seasoning was light, but yet fragrant. Service was ok. Staff were friendly, but a bit awkward at times when trying to communicate with you -- possibly due to the language barrier? I did appreciate the fact that after they take your order, they pretty much leave you alone to eat in privacy. They did help us pack our leftovers, so that was a nice touch. Overall, I'd come back again to try out their other dishes.

The food here is my favorite Chinese on the west side!! We ordered: 18. SHANGHAI STYLE CHOW MEIN 42. GARLIC PEA SPROUT 34. CORN & EGG SOUP Beef 29. CHICKEN FRIED RICE 51. PEKING DUCK (Whole) 45. EGGPLANT W/ GARLIC SAUCE 1. JUICY PORK DUMPLINGS (6) Service is fast especially when seating and ordering drinks! Ambiance is a typical Chinese restaurant with nice lighting and tea pots. An outdoor and banquet hall available too!

Mama Lu's Dumpling House is a fantastic family-style Chinese restaurant with a Taiwanese twist. Everything is meant to be shared, which makes it perfect for group dining. We tried a variety of dishes including soup dumplings, spicy wontons, pork shumai, noodles, golden fried shrimp, wings, plus cocktails and desserts -- and every plate was flavorful and satisfying. The dumplings are especially juicy and clearly a standout. Dim sum is served daily, and it's great to know they also sell frozen dumplings to enjoy at home. A solid go-to spot for comforting, well-executed Chinese food in Beverly Hills.

Since we've been visiting my Los Angeles relatives for the past 25+ years, we've often driven to the San Gabriel Valley in search of regional Chinese cuisine, though we lean towards Southern Chinese flavors. We had seen several favorites that we usually return to, and Mama Lu's Dumpling House is one of them. During this Holiday visit, my brother-in-law was hankering for dim sum. He mentioned Mama Lu's, so I thought we were going to drive to Monterey Park or Alhambra, but we were surprised when he drove us to the former Capital Restaurant in Beverly Hills. Upon entry, I didn't see any changes to the interior décor, and the servers were recognizable from the former Capital Seafood Restaurant. However, the menus seemed much more extensive, and we now expected similar food quality and flavors to those at the other Mama Lu's. Our friendly server recognized our family and explained that they were sold out of beer, especially the Taiwan beer, which we usually order when eating dim sum. Apparently, because the day before, their restaurant was slammed by huge dinner parties, and their alcoholic beverages hadn't yet been restocked. But she offered us Suntory's All-Free non-alcoholic beers to sample. Admittedly, we pooh-poohed the non-alcoholic option, but we were surprised by this beer's crisp, refreshing taste. The server provided us with their dim sum menu (items ranged in price from $8 to $12 per category) and regular menu (appetizers through dessert). We used the dim sum checklist to select our "usual' favorites such as the shrimp har gow ($9), shrimp & pork shiu mai ($9), dried shrimp & pork dumpling ($9), baked BBQ pork buns ($9), and beancurd roll - vegetable ($9). As if we didn't order enough for our foursome, we added an order of shrimp, chive & pork dumplings ($13), beef pan-fried noodles ($21), and pork chop with spicy salt ($18). We found the shrimp har gow wrappers to be delicate and translucent, holding the generous filling even as they were picked up from the steamer basket with chopsticks. But we were slightly disappointed with the dry, overbaked dough of the BBQ pork bun and the thick, doughy wrappers of the shrimp, chive & pork dumplings. Most of the flavors and textures were pleasing and reminiscent of previous visits to the former Capital Seafood Restaurant and Mama Lu's - Monterey Park. We'd happily return for more, as this location is just a scant 20-minute drive from my BIL's home.

Stopped by Mamalu Beverly Hills after traveling and it was such a satisfying meal. The space is stylish and less oily or crowded than most Chinese spots. The soup dumplings were juicy, and the salt & pepper ribs were crispy outside but tender inside. The XO eggplant was a surprise favorite. Great place if you want Chinese food that feels lighter but still flavorful.

I love that there's a Mama Lu's on the west side now! When visiting my bf in Mid City, it'd be hard to get authentic Chinese family style or dim sum like they have at Mama Lu's and we'd always have to go towards Pasadena/Alhambra areas. Now, it's more accessible for the Culver City/Beverly Hills, and Fairfax districts! This is also the only Mama Lu's I've been to that had cocktail service!! I really enjoyed my lychee martini and I was so happy to even have access to one here!! This is a perfect place for big gatherings. If you're going out to eat with a big family, this has options for everyone. The dishes are big and shareable. The table setting for 5+ people includes the similar to a lazy Susan rotating plate in the middle to make it easy to order a lot and have everyone access it. Getting into the food, I noticed that this location had a separate dim-sum menu with new items that I haven't seen in their usual menu such as salt and pepper soft shell crab, shui mai, and even vegetarian options such as mushroom dumplings. I feel like xiao long baos are a non-negotiable order when I come here. All of their greens are good, but the garlic green beans are a classic if you can't decide. The salt and pepper calamari was also really good, but the star of this meal for us was the super tender beef in XO sauce. The sautéed onions sweetness and the savory from the xo sauce made this dish disappear first out of everything we ordered. It was also my first time trying Mama Lu's Peking Duck plate which came with baos, green onions, cucumbers, and hoisin and it was really good. The duck was so savory, juicy, and tender. It made for an excellent bite! Overall, I love Mama Lu's, all their locations, and hope that they continue to do well to keep expanding to more and more locations.

I'm just going to get down to the food. My favorite was the steamed fish. It was very flavorful and I loved how the sauce was very light. I chose it because I know it was a healthier option. As a very little pork eating person, the pork dumplings were really juicy and the Shanghai Pork Rib was also a hit for me and for the table. You gotta get in your veggies too! The House Stir Fry had the right amount of garlic to give it that nice punch. Of course I am biased about the fried tofu because I just love tofu. Let's talk about the wings. Crispy crispy goodness. The first crunch will want you wanting more. Then...the highlight was their new dessert. It has a puff pastry on top and when you break into it, it's the most creamy and delicious almond milk. It's like melted creamy almond jello. Yes, I finished mine. The staff were all kind and hospitable. The manager was very mind and informative with all the dishes as well. I thank them for giving us a great experience. The place is very clean. The plates and dishes were all so pretty too. It's a great place to celebrate any occasion.

Back at one of my favorite Chinese restaurants and it never disappoints! Got the Juicy Chicken XLB and they're honestly so good every time - the soup inside is perfectly seasoned and you can tell how fresh they make them. Their Chow Mein hit different today! The noodles had that perfect wok flavor and texture that I love. Tried the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce again because I'm obsessed - the eggplant is so tender and that garlic sauce is just incredible. The French Style Steak was amazing as always. I know it sounds random for a Chinese spot but trust me on this one! And of course had to get the Peking Duck - the crispy skin with those pancakes and scallions is just perfection. This is definitely one of their signature dishes for a reason. Jack the manager is seriously the best and always takes such good care of everyone. Thanks for having me back! This place consistently delivers on flavor and quality. If you haven't been here yet, you're missing out! Instagram: @hungrytamale

Mama Lu's welcome to the neighborhood. Finally real authentic Chinese food in Beverly Hills, add one more option places to go to during lunch hour and yes they have lunch specials set as well. Their lunch set prices are very reasonable and the amount of food you get is fantastic. As for all or most Chinese restaurants be prepared for MSG overload. I'm not complaining Each lunch set comes with an eggroll, soup and either fried rice or steam rice. For this lunch visit we ordered thr following lunch set. Pork Chop with Spicy Salt Eggplant Fish Filet with Black Bean Sauce All was good and delicious. We also got a side of the pork dumplings to share which great as well. Service was quick and friendly as for parking there is street meter parking and they have there own lot ( not sure how much that is) All and all, happy that Mama Lu's is here.

Who eats Chinese Food in Beverly Hills? You will want to now since @mamalusdumplinghouse made its mark off of La Cienega Blvd next to Lawry's. Mama Lu's is bringing all the authentic flavors from The SGV and Chinatown to Beverly Hills. If you think PF Chang's at the Beverly Center was real Chinese Food, you are about to wake up to REAL AUTHENTIC CHINESE flavors in your mouth! You will taste the difference and be like where has this flavor been in all of my life! Feel free to pick and choose what I ate with my friends. We were celebrating new friendships and we went all out! Plus service is fantastic. I used to visit the original Monterey Park location pretty often, so I was excited to check out their new Beverly Hills branch. Overall, it was a nice experience -- though personally, I think the flavors at the original spot are a bit better. That said, if you're in West LA, this location is super convenient and definitely worth a visit. The dim sum wrappers were a bit on the thicker side, which was slightly disappointing, and the beef wrap felt like it might have been pre-made -- so that took away a little freshness for me. But the ambience and cleanliness of the restaurant were excellent, and the prices are quite reasonable. It's a solid spot to consider for a weekend brunch, especially if you're in the area.

I've been coming here for the past two years, and their quality is stayed consistently high, if not even improving! They also have an amazing cocktail menu (which is more unusual for dim sum spots) and weekday lunch special menu from 12-3 PM, which features select dim sum and traditional Chinese dish combos at VERY affordable prices (all under $20). Honestly, everything I've tried on every visit has been AMAZING, but I highly recommend asking your waiter for recommendations and specials, since I've been able to try so many new dishes that I probably wouldn't have ever ordered. Absolutely unacceptable…read more We waited 10 minutes to be seated in a restaurant that was at most 30% full. Then 20 more minutes before anyone bothered to take our order. After ordering dim sum, which is typically fast and casual, we waited 45 minutes with no food. At the 30 minute mark, we politely asked for an update. Fifteen minutes later, still nothing. No explanation. Just a half-hearted apology and no sense of urgency. Instead, a random dish we didn't order was dropped off as "compliments from the kitchen." A freebie doesn't fix over an hour of being ignored. We had a hungry 5 year old with us. After a total of about 75 minutes with zero food, we told the waitress we were leaving. Her response? "Ok." That's it. No apology. No attempt to make it right. Just indifference. We even left money on the table, not because anything was earned, but because we have standards, even if this place doesn't. If this is how they operate when the restaurant isn't even busy, I can't imagine how bad it gets when it is. Plenty of other places that actually value their customers.
