We were craving dim sum after some Sunday morning tennis in Griffith Park. NBC Seafood in Monterey Park was too far, and Golden Dragon in Chinatown felt like a parking headache. So we landed on Kingdom Dim Sum in Thai Town, off Western and Hollywood Blvd. According to Yelp, it was the closest, highest-rated spot nearby. For $50, it hit the craving but didn't quite deliver on flavor or finesse. Here's the breakdown: Xiao long bao: Wrapper-to-meat ratio was off, and there wasn't enough soup. A little too pork-forward without the balance. BBQ pork bun: Glazed and overly sweet. The pork was decent, but minced too fine and not generous enough. Also, sticky fingers required me to hand wash mid-meal. Siu mai: Accidentally ordered the scallop/shrimp/pork combo. Flavor was fine, but the racquetball-sized portions felt too large for classic dim sum. Pickled cucumbers: Needed more pickling, but decent portions. What saved it from a 2-star? The service. Caught me by surprised how good this place is. Portions are def big and for the price, I'd say it's pretty worth it. I heard about this place online and decided to make the trek to Hollywood to check it out. I read all the reviews about parking underground, but I was lucky to find a spot on ground level in the middle of the week, middle of the afternoon. I went with another foodie newbie and we ordered as much as we thought we could finish (we ended up with lots of leftovers). The glutenous rice with chicken was one of our favorites, with lots of chicken filling and a huge portion that could easily serve 4 with an order of 2 pieces. I was looking forward to getting the chicken feet, which was served in a huge portion (I took half of it home). I found it a very mild version of what I'm used to in NYC, but still very tender and satisfying. The pork ribs were meaty, not too fat, and had a nice hint of black beans. The shrimp har gow were fantastic with a thin wrapper, huge chunks of shrimp, and the filling was very lightly handled. One of our favorite items on the menu. The rice paper rolls with BBQ pork were so full of BBQ pork that it was almost like eating BBQ pork with just a thin bit of rice paper. Both the rice roll and pork were tender and delicious. The Chinese broccoli came finely chopped and chilled, which actually made it easier to eat. The pickled cucumber was another favorite dish, so much so that we ordered an extra to go, because it was one of the few dishes we finished! Sometimes OC and SGV is really far for some delicious dim sum but this was a fresh and authentic hit close to home for my husband and I :D It was about a ~30 min drive on a weekend morning and luckily, we didn't hit any traffic coming here. Parking is limited on the same level as the restaurant so we found parking underground at the same plaza. It's a small and casual spot that feels cozy. We were the first ones to arrive when they opened and got seated right away. The menu is on a QR code so you can order through online I believe or order with a staff member. We thoroughly enjoyed all the food, which includes the rice noodle rolls with shrimp, Chinese broccoli, salt & pepper chicken wings, pork & shrimp siu mai, shrimp har gow and BBQ pork bun. Kingdom Dim Sum did a great job for chicken feet. I can tell this is one of the best chicken feet I've had in LA. Their chicken feet can beat some dim sum restaurants in SGV tbh. Other dishes were good too but I definitely recommend chicken feet here if you're craving for some good chicken feet. Prices are slightly higher than other places but portions are generous so I think it's worth the price. I'm glad that I don't have to drive an hour to SGV for dim sum anymore. The food came out quickly and was piping hot so you know it's fresh out of the kitchen. The food and drinks were served with paper plates but don't let that fool you because the food was delicious. I'm a big fan of the chicken feet, it might be scary to others by the looks of it but it's very flavorful. The baked BBQ Pork bun with puff pastry was my favorite as well, the sweetness of the bbq pork and the puff pastry is a sweet and savory combination that you must order. The Scallops Pork Shrimp Siu Mai was something I never tried before. Scallops in a siu mai? I never had it before but after tasting this combo, I've became a fan. The Sticky Rice Seafood Shrimp Ball was an unique item that was filled with shrimp, and sticky rice with a bouncy texture that I never thought that I would like but ended up enjoying. I also tried the egg tarts, rice noodles with shrimp, green leek dumplings, sesame ball with red bean, deep fried dumpling and baked BBQ bun all were solid and a staple at dim sum places. Wifey wanted to try the noodle place next door and I spotted dim sum. Because of the price point it got me curious and since the noodle place was ok for me to bring dim sum over, here I am. It's located inside the Ralph plaza so there's an underground parking garage and also parking outside the restaurants. The place itself is not that big. There's 8 tables but some are for 6 while others for 2. I came around Monday 3:30pm and there's 3 tables filled. I was happy to hear the waiter and chef speaking Mandarin so right off i know it's authentic. I really like the spacious and clean kitchen. I ordered egg tarts, egg custard, scallops pork shrimp sui mai and chicken feet. Didn't want to order too much as I'm eating next door as well lol but def want to get a feel for the food here to see if there's a need to return if I'm ever in the area (it is close by my church). It took a long minute for me to get my food which was something im not use to as dim sum is suppose to be fast and quick and my noodles next door got cold by the time it was ready. So I tried the egg tarts first because that's usually a giveaway for me to see if they're actually legit and happy to say the egg tarts was legit. The sui mai was good with a whole piece of scallop on the bottom. Honestly they were all good and I'm actually down to come back to give other items on the menu a try. Service was very friendly. Thankfully, we found parking quickly. The shop is small but the Hollywood stars aligned and we were seated right away. They have dangerous things on the table that let your party keep ordering, lol. We scanned the QR codes to see what's good and we were happy to see photos. The pricing was decent. The portion sizes for the shumai were huge so the value was there. You could split them into 4! I thought it was unique that they have corn in them, but we chucked it up to the differentiation of the meat inside. We loved the steamed and baked buns. My wife and 2 friends and I ate here earlier today and came away impressed with the quality of the food. We hadn't been to a dim sum place in a while and this one came recommended so decided to give it a try. It's in a shopping center with good parking and also across from the Metro stop at Western and Hollywood. There's also a really nice Daiso store here. We ordered a bunch of dim sum from their menu and all of it were prepared in an open kitchen area. The bowls arrived and I could tell everything was fresh. We were all satisfied. I think we ordered 10 or 11 dishes and the total price including tax was $76 before tip. That's very reasonable. And parking is free. Also the ladies bathroom was clean according to our friend. The dim sum menu, while not as comprehensive as you'd find in DTLA and east is a good representation of typical Cantonese style dim sum and the restaurant staff has added recommendations and new items at the front. Yo, finally a good dim sum place in Hollywood! Didn't expect to find a place like this by Thai Town, but this place doesn't disappoint, even though my first time having this was togo. Place was quite clean, I believe the place is fairly new. I also love that they have Apple Pay, which makes things so easy and convenient! Food I would recommend giving the bbq pork steamed bun, shrimp wonton with chili oil or the shrimp Siu mai a try for those that are trying this for the first time. My daughter liked the sesame ball the most, I think kids just love sweet pastry. It is always nice to be able to not only eat dim sum at the place but be able to enjoy it to go. One would scan a code and orders through the app. Also, I saw people mostly ordered takeouts instead of dining in. The dim sum food was made to order and fresh. We ordered several items, don't remember all, but including soup dumplings, custard buns, crab steamed dumplings. I really liked the crab dumplings; they were big and had the crab seafood taste in every bite. The dim sum style here was not exactly Cantonese if that's what you are used to, but the plates we ordered were good nonetheless. I think the restaurant is still in its soft opening phase but I was very impressed with their service and food! The restaurant is located in a pretty busy plaza but there is an underground parking which made finding a spot super easy. Baked BBQ pork bun with puff pastry: 10/10 This tasted really really good hot out of the oven. They don't skimp on ingredients and bun was filled with hot, flavorful, yummy BBQ pork. Chicken siu mai: 6/10 My first time eating a siu mai that was made out of chicken. Tbh, not really my cup of tea. I think if you like chicken, you would like this. The texture was a little rough for my liking. Crab shrimp har gow: 10/10 You can actually see and taste the crab meat in this! It was a really good combination and I really enjoyed this dish. Fish siu mai: 8/10 The flavor by itself was a bit lacking in this one, but it was much better after I dipped it in the chili oil. This was very chewy and kind of reminded me of a fish cake. Shrimp wonton with chili oil: 9/10 Basically a shrimp har gow but made with a wonton wrapper instead. Not really what I expected but it was pretty good with the chili oil. I recommend to eat this immediately or else the wonton wrapper will harden. Baked egg tart: 10/10 The filling was perfect - not too sweet and not watery. The outside tart was perfectly crispy and not too oily. Perfect dessert to end with. Another one of my favs. Overall, I really enjoyed the food here. It's a shit ton of food and comes in char shu chicken, pork, or crispy lemon chicken cutlet. I always try to finish the box on my own but it's too much food. Absolutely delicious. Try their coffee jelly while you're there too!! Parking on the top level is difficult, honestly just skip altogether and go straight to the parking level below.
