Many times have I gone by Chinatown Express and underestimated. This is truly a case of - don't judge a book by its cover. Chinatown Express is a hole-in-the-wall type of spot on Western with great takeout and delivery options. I've now had delivery from here twice and been pleased with everything I've had. Walnut Shrimp ($15.50) - This was a generous portion covered in their creamy, milky honey mayo based sauce. I think it needed a bit more sweetness to it, but was a good walnut shrimp dish. Honey Shrimp ($15) - I was curious if this would be different than the Walnut Shrimp so had to test it. It's not, loilz! The same gooey goodness without the walnuts for 2 quarters less. Again, liked but didn't love it. Cream cheese wontons (6 for $5) - Awesome deal, so packed full of flavor for wontons, they were almost more like rangoons. Nice crispness and really tasty sweet and sour sauce to dip the crisp bits in. Kung Pao Chicken - Not deep fried and packed full of veggies, great dish to balance things a bit. It was not spicy at all if that's a concern for you, though slightly sad for me. They did include a packet of hot sauce though, so it all turned out okay. Orange Chicken - Back to deep fried American Chinese eats goodness! I loved it, great flavor with more actual orange fruit tang to it than just sweet sugar. I found that refreshing and enjoyed the difference in flavor and textures in the dish. Cans of pop are $1.50 which didn't strike me as egregious. Overall, been super happy with Chinatown Express as my new cheap eats Chinese delivery spot! I've become a regular.

Catering party tray (small) of chow mein. Freshly made within 15min and enough for 20+ people.

Amazing, authentic Chinese food at an affordable price. I have been looking for good, affordable party trays to bring to holiday parties this season and Chinatown Express has been the answer to all my prayers. On the outside, they seem like your average hot food bar style Chinese lunchbox joint but this is an absolute powerhouse of an establishment providing delicious, authentic Chinese food at a great price. I have ordered party trays several times in the past month and they never miss. I call in a day in advance (sometimes the day of) and they are able to whip up my order within minutes! They don't have a catering menu so you will have to call in for prices but they have small and large trays. The small trays are a lot more food than you think and range from $25-40 dollars depending on the dish. They do party trays for just about everything they have there: orange chicken, chow mein, potstickers, etc. I have gotten so many compliments on these party trays and have had the food myself. It is always delicious and piping hot. The orange chicken stayed crispy after several hours and the dumplings are always a favorite. The woman who runs the cashier and answers the phones deserves an award. I've heard her speak at least 3 different languages and think this place truly highlights the beauty and diversity of LA. Parking can be challenging in this small lot but you can park in the 7/11 spots.

Pretty good Chinese food! I loveeee Chinese food and this hit the spot! Sad they didn't have fountain drinks BUT they came in clutch with the Arizonas. Workers are very nice!! Area is a little ghetto but overall felt safe eating in:)

Amazing prices and portions! Tasty! I ordered off of ubereats so I can't comment on the service but it was prepared very quickly! Even over ubereats they packed the food in! I got combo B with fried rice, potato chicken, and babreque pork. I also got the salt and pepper chicken wings (delicious) and the cream cheese rangoons (also delicious) highly recommend!

This place has some of the best value you can get for a fast food Chinese experience and it's way better than a chain like Panda Express. The portions are super super generous and you get both chow mein noodles and fried rice. A 2 item combo is only $10.60 with cash or like $11.40 with a card. Very tasty and if you're on a budget one order is way more than 2 meals.

Chinatown Express has gotten pricer (yes everywhere has). They cheated me out on the beef broccoli. I had to tell the lady can I get some beef with that beef broccoli. I didn't order just veggies. So she put two pieces. This place has gotten stingy. The only good part is the teriyaki chicken. The egg rolls suck now. Parking sucks. Employee lady was OK cause she looked at me crazy for asking for more meat for my beef broccoli which it didn't have. Just tiny pieces. Would I go back. I'm ok thanks.

Ordered delivery because I was in the mood for some Chinese food and this place had good reviews. Prices are decent Food is tasty BUT I found a hair (it was short and straight- I have curly hair) in my chicken so I couldn't even finish my meal I got so grossed out. I was going to give this place 5 stars until I pulled the hair out of my mouth If the cooks/workers aren't wearing hair coverage they definitely SHOULD!

We had two orders of slippery shrimp, kung pao chicken, eggplants with hot and spicy garlic sauce, juicy steamed dumplings, and pork fried rice. Overall, both restaurants in Chinatown and Pasadena provide great food quality. The ambience was cozy with dim lighting. Our round table had a wooden rotating tray. They have pictures of celebrities and politicians who've visited their restaurant. Service was relatively quick, but there was a 20-minute wait for the dumplings. Valet parking can get difficult when the lot gets full. A few cars entering the narrow driveway had to reverse out of the way to let others leave. The kung pao chicken was very tasty with a good amount of spice. I noticed that the slippery shrimp didn't taste as spicy as the portion from Pasadena. Reviews say that the spice is adjustable. Regardless. it tasted great as it came right off the pan. The pork fried rice was delicious with a savory flavor that didn't seem overpowering. I thought the juicy steamed dumplings were the weakest dish out of our whole order. There wasn't enough flavor and heat from the broth. I didn't try much of the eggplants, but they tasted adequate for me.
