If you're looking for a low priced dining spot offers a lot of options, Mama Hamil's offers a great buffet. The barbecue ribs were surprisingly good and you can stuck your plate as much as you want. The line went quick on Entry and the staff was constantly cleaning the tables. Overall the decor is family style seating

I tried Mama Hamil's for the first time today and I get the hype! The food was so good. It's a good place to go if you want Southern cooking or bbq. I appreciated the many vegetables to choose from and the fried fish was delicious. They open at 4pm for dinner. We got there within 5 minutes and it was already a lot of people. There is plenty of seating upstairs and downstairs. However, for the amount of people, I do wish the buffet was spread out a bit more; it was a bit tight. Hand sanitizer at the beginning/end buffet would be nice too. I enjoyed just about everything. I thought the Mac n cheese was just okay, but I did appreciate that it was more of a homestyle baked mac. Atmosphere is very casual. The building has an old farmhouse or barn feel from the outside. Inside is wood tables w checkered cloths. Decent prices. Plenty of parking. Overall: I'd go back!

I really didn't enjoy my food here and found EVERYTHING to be VERY bland. My mother and aunt love this place and when I looked at the menu I could tell I was probably not going to like the food here but I would still give it a chance. So I don't eat pork and based on the menu I assumed most of the vegetables would be full of pork and that assumption was 100% correct. I had two plates of food which probably wasn't worth the price of admission here. The two plates of food I ate here were just very bland to me and nothing I would want to eat again. My mother mentioned she thought the food was far less flavorful than it had been on her past visits. Overall I can see why lots of people would love this place and if you want to stuff yourself like a hog with a lot of hog flavored food then this is definitely a place you will enjoy.

So things have change since the last time I been here. Price is up and quality is down. Still have a lot customers as before. My complaints are all the sides like mash potatoes, green beans taste like it is from a can or made from a packet. Chicken and dumplings had no meat. Ribs are salty and dry Fried chicken and bake chicken is still good. Service is still quick and nice. They have AC on the top floor now which is more comfortable than before. If you want to fill your belly this is still a good place to go. $14 for lunch and $17 for dinner.

This is definitely a place for you to stop by if you're solo or with even a big group. They have so many different options of food that anyone will find things they like to eat. The food is all cooked ok but nothing is delicious and it's fairly easy to make your own plate. It's an old neat place to visit for lunch. There is basically zero service but I one was mean at all.

Food is always amazing!! My family comes here at least 3 - 7 times a week!! The main two waitstaff, Bertha and "Tip" (Jonathan) are wonderful and that is the two we try to have!! Great personalities!!

I have fond memories of dining at the old restaurant which was much smaller than this one but served the same great food. Fast forward to the present and the only thing that has changed is that Mama Hamil's is in a much larger building. I had lunch here earlier this week and can say this food is just as great as it ever was. Because this restaurant serves such good food it had to expand to serve its customers. Let me give an example. When I arrived last Wednesday at 11:09 am they were already slammed. The parking lot looked like a football game was being played with the number of cars there. Inside, my wait in line to pay was only about 6-7 minutes so that made me happy. The line moves fairly quickly. For lunch my price for the buffet with a drink and tax was.......$14! Yeah, that's not a typo. Then I got a plate and started visiting the various food stations for salads and other appetizers, veggies, meats, bread and desserts. I filled my plate to the hilt and then tried to find a place to sit. Most of the 2 & 4 person tables were being used so that left sitting at one of the two very long benches communal style where there were a few spaces open. It's a great way to meet people and I sat among several people all remarking how great the food here is. EVERYTHING that I ate was delicious. The meats and veggies were made just like your grandmother did and just made me smile while gorging on them. Not only is the food delicious and all you can eat but to only pay $14 total including drink and tax is a steal. For dinner the price only increases about $2 and I think they offer even more food items then. How can they do this? Mama Hamil's is a Mississippi institution and one of the best in the South. There is only one. Come and enjoy the very best in Southern cooking and save some money too.

Wow! On my way from Memphis I was checking for a good place to eat that was good and not out of the way! I decided yo try Mama Hamil's. When I started to read the reviews to be sure I wanted to go here, MY review from 9 years ago was the first one!!! I loved it then and NOTHING has changed in 9 years. Excellent service and THE BEST food ever! Cozy family atmosphere and Gramma's cooking. Don't pass this up!!!

Wide variety of food. The smoked meats are delicious, but the chicken has been dry the past few times. Lots of veggies, breads, salad. Nice ladies serving tea. Lots of deserts.

Excellent food done really well. True Southern fare. Menu is limited in that I went twice a week apart and found the same thing being served except for a couple exceptions. All in all this is an excellent place to eat if you are passing through or have not been here in a while. Friendly staff, excellent food at a decent price. read more

This is a popular dining institution, cafeteria style, make that Buffay style in south Madison County, Mississippi but come hungry with $14 per adult, but, try to avoid the rush hour crash so get here at 11:15 or 115 the receding for several hundred but it doesn't feel like a giant convention hall it's quite Quaint with old signs from 100 years ago. Today the barbecue chicken the black beans the mac & cheese and several other things were excellent. We've been here twice, both times we really enjoyed the buffet. The only drawback is findibg seating on ground level, so both tines we went upstairs to dine. Wished their salad bar contained more options, otger than that the grill chicken and ribs were delicious. read more

It is a buffet with average to low quality food.. Greens were cooked till about to evaporate. All fried, nothing grilled. BBQ chicken cooked to rock. Worst of all, at 7:50pm, they remove the food trays while plenty of people still in the restaurant. You go for food and come back empty handed. The decor is old such that I don't think anybody cleaned them since they opened in 1971. It is very busy, I think it is because they charge $15 per person. I am sure they lose more customers than they realize because there are still customers willing to pay less for a buffet. read more

Excellent food in a very timely manner. I went on a Saturday for lunch. Parking made us think we couldn't get in there were so many cars. The line for the buffet was very long but went extremely fast . We had our food and we're eating much quicker than most places. Everything I ate was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend Mama Hamil's. read more

Great value and great selection make this place a home run. I generally don't do buffets. I worry about food poisoning and it's almost impossible not to gorge yourself (well, myself anyway). So... much... endless... food... But hey, the locals we were with took us here, and I'm glad they did! For about $10, you get unlimited quality food with great selection, drinks, and dessert. Salad offerings are way better than expected (yes, I managed to get a healthy in to cancel out ... you know, everything else), BBQ was pretty good, corn was good, cornbread was perfect, bread pudding for dessert was awesome... I can't even remember what all I ate. Service was great and smiley and felt like good southern hospitality should. The original Mama Hamil's is a small log-cabin-type building closer to the main road. The new building is HUGE and set far back from the road, with a large parking lot. Be prepared to walk, and have your GPS and Yelp map handy to find the place. It's definitely set back from the main road and not visible at first. It's kind of at the top of a small hill. If you want good southern food at a more than fair price, check this place out. Solid. And great value - let me stress that again. Unbeatable value. read more

If you're looking for quality that's a step ahead of Cracker Barrel, but in a buffet setting, you've found the right place! The concern is that the pandemic and upcoming flu season make places with a set-up like this breeding ground for illness. You share tables with others as well. In all, for southern fare at a relatively affordable all you can eat price, it's a nice option. read more

If I could give ten stars I would. If you like Southern style food, You will not find a place any better. And then you pay $11 for a buffet and this includes your drink It's also like that you go get your plate and you go find a chair, you may sit at the table with 20 other people, I love that. That's how it used to be before cell phones you actually have a conversation while you eat. read more

Mama Hamil's is a good southern food buffet. It tasted and looked like the food is being prepared fresh in the kitchen as it is needed. My wife and I have been here a few times after it was recommended by a co-work in my office. The fried chicken was great with a nice crispy skin and juicy meat, the sides are truly amazing and may steal the show. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone missing a good down home meal. The service staff is very friendly and attentive keeping drinks full and old plates cleared. The only slight problem I have found is the seating set up it is all open and self seating. This leads to the first floor fills up quickly after opening leaving the only seating upstairs. For young people this completely ok, but if you have someone with who is disabled or elderly that's a big problem. I have seen people having to wait on of even help other older or larger customers up the stairs. For me I will keep going and enjoying the great food. read more

Discovered Mama Hamil's in a trip to Jackson in 2015, and made a point to come back on our way to NOLA! As northerners, we were delighted to finally find a buffet with authentic soul food at very reasonable prices! Mama Hamil's has an assortment of southern favorites, including ribs, greens, and black eye peas. We were most excited about the fresh corn cakes with delicious slabs of butter, and the crusty peach cobbler- Complete with soft-serve ice cream from the machine included in the buffet. My only concern in visiting now is that I've since adopted a pescatarian/ vegetarian diet, so options are a bit limited if you have dietary restrictions. The huge, community-style dining room also features an upstairs loft area that can accommodate large parties, and the staff is so welcoming and friendly, which really tops off the southern charm and hospitality. We love Mama Hamil's and can't wait to visit again! read more

This is the best Southern cooking that you can get! Lunch was $24 for the 2 of us and it includes your drink. The waitresses are all very kind and are usually running to try to to keep up with everything. With covid I'm sure they need extra waitresses. The food is always perfectly seasoned and you can tell this is some grandma's recipes. I can't say enough good things about this place! read more

I love this place. The catfish, smoked chicken, ribs, broccoli slaw, Lima beans, hocakes etc. the Buffett is very reasonably priced and pipping hot and plentiful. I hate they don't have one anywhere else. This place needs to be duplicated in the Atlanta area. read more

This is a country Buffet that all the locals love, and after my visit, I can see why! $11 for the buffet and a drink, that includes tax. The buffet includes at least 10 different sides, 6 entree options, breads and desserts. I got a little bit of several things so I could try everything and it was all great! The seating is a little different. There are individual tables, but the only seating that was open when we got there were two long picnic tables down the middle of the restaurant, so we snagged our spots and started eating. The waitress came by immediately and asked what we wanted to drink (the drinks are not self service) and brought them over to us super quick! I would definitely recommend this spot for lunch! Check the hours if you're going to stop in, I think they are only open for lunch most of the week and lunch and dinner on the weekends. read more

I havent been to Mama Hamil's in years and I won't make that mistake again when I'm craving some good, southern comfort food. I was a little nervous about going to a buffet during these Covid times - but they have their process down and I felt completely at ease. And the staff there is just wonderful and super friendly! About the food - it was all fresh, hot and delicious. I tried everything from coleslaw and potato salad to fresh veggies and mac and cheese to the tastiest fried catfish. And don't forget dessert - the bread pudding and banana pudding are worth it!! read more

Wow...only 10 bucks! Hard to find, even with a GPS. Super crowded on a Tues afternoon. Food was plentiful and many selections. BBQ chicken & Mac & Cheese were my faves. Wait staff was attentive. No complaints from me...! Give it a try...did I mention it was only $10? read more

There plenty of tables and booths to seat a plentiful of patrons. And if you need a little bit more private, you can request a private room depending how many are in the party. 4.5 Stars - Service: our server, Andrew was wonderful, professional and has a great sense of humor. We bantered throughout our dinner but the conversation never crossed over to make anyone uncomfortable. He was observant of our needs and when to bring our next course. Our glasses stayed full with our beverage. 4.25 Stars - Food We ordered from the dinner menu instead of lunch due to our timing at 3:00. Let's just call it "Linner". Haha. 4 Stars - Grilled Swordfish- My wife ordered the dish and came with a decent size grilled swordfish fish, sauté spinach, creamed mash potatoes, and a beurre blanc sauce (lemon, butter and dry white wine). The swordfish was thick and moist; not dry at all. The beurre blanc balanced the bland spinach and the seasoned swordfish. The creamed potatoes were creamy, buttery's and not too salty. 3.75 Stars - Pan seared Redfish with cube fried potatoes, sauté green beans, beurre blanc sauce and top w a Chilean tomato salsa. The redfish was moist and tasty but I wish it had a little bit seared on it for a crunchy factor. The cubed potatoes were good but nothing to write about. The fresh sauté green beans could have a bit more garlic butter. 3.5 Stars Side dish: Deep Fried Brussel Sprouts. Hot, steamy and fresh. Has a slight crunch on the exterior leaves and was seasoned w a sprinkle of salt. 3.75 Dessert: Crème Brûlée and coffee. The crème brûlée crust was crunchy and the vanilla egg custard was good and smooth. It would have been better was a scoop of fresh whipped cream to go with the fresh fruit and crunchy layer. 5 Stars - French pressed Italian coffee. The coffee was a highlight of the dessert. It was hot, fresh, and strong. Just like an Italian coffee should be. It was between an espresso and caffe' Americano. Our, server, Andrew did a wonderful job on the coffee! I definitely recommend this place and we will be back. Don't forget to ask for Andrew, if he is available.

So, I hit up Mama Hamil's in Madison, Ma and man, it was a real Southern feast. I grubbed on some comfort food. The fried chicken? Crispy goodness that had me feeling all kinds of satisfied. And let's talk about those mashed potatoes - creamy and the many vegetable options are what I really needed. Turnip greens, Lima beans, black eyed peas, okra, a great salad bar and more!!! But the star of the show? The catfish. I'm not No fancy schmancy stuff here - it's all about that authentic Southern vibe. The place is large but had a cozy flair, like your grandma's kitchen, and the service is friendly as heck. So, if you're into down-home comfort food that hits the spot, Mama Hamil's is where it's at. Full Disclosure, Professor caught a damn Snorlax right out front of Mama Hamils. When you pull in and drive through the gravel parking lot, you might think - Is there really a pokestop over here? Yup and the pokes are better than you'd expect! As I said earlier, I caught a Snorlax and a starter during my visit. There is a gym in the cemetary next door, but you won't catch the professor anywhere near it. I aint going to get a bunch of damn ghost just for a pokemon gym on a cellphone game. food is great. the only place i know you can get livers that isn't a gas station. me and my crew ate 3 plates then went back for banana pudding. read more

Their buffet has so many different varieties of food to choose from. The price is awesome. The food is beyond delicious. I treated my mom to lunch there and she loved it. The buffet is $12 per person and that includes your drink with free refills. They have excellent service and great hospitality. They have good southern soul food to tender chicken and ribs cooked on the grill on the buffet line too. There's so many delicious vegetables, meats, salads and desserts to choose from.
