I went here for the first time the other day. It was lunch for a coworker's birthday. The space is nice, the ambiance is nice and the food is really, really good. They have great lunch specials for very reasonable prices and very generous portions. We all had something different and everyone was happy with their choice. I had mostly vegetables and chicken, but the pad thai looked really good. My coworkers were also big fans for the sticky rice with mango and fried ice cream for dessert. Staff is very friendly, too. I went here for a quick weekday lunch, and it was good. I ordered off the Lunch Express menu and had ginger scallion chicken and rice. The portions were a good size. It also came with two spring rolls, and they were very good. The Lunch Express also comes with the soup of the day, which was delicious. The staff was very friendly and food came out very quickly. Malay is my "go to" Morristown restaurant. I love Asian cuisine and Malay's food is probably the best that I have ever enjoyed. I am a regular customer and attempt to have lunch there on a weekly basis. I hesitate to recommend any meal because I have tried many and each is as good as the next. For dinner, my wife and I take our adult kids to Malay, along with our grandkids. In addition, many of our friends have been introduced to Malay and have become regulars. They all have commented on the cleanliness of the restaurant and the terrific food. Maggie and her entire staff are extremely courteous, friendly, and have a great sense of humor. NO! NO! NO! The previouls place (Andaman Sea Recipes) was so much better, this is your usual commercial run of the mill, pseudo Thai restaurant. They want to cater to the masses, so if you know Thai food, this is not your place one single bit. Overloaded with sugar (they don't have to, but they won't go the extra mile), the sauces are pre-made, not much the waiters can do anything about it. But not as good as the previous owner (before Levine)...Andaman Sea Recipes, that guy was one heck of a chef (cooking in NY as I was told...not sure where though). Anyway, Just a bit more expensive than other Thai/Malaysian places. If you amend a dish, watch out, they have no problem charging you and not just a small charge, they want you to pay for their new décor. Added eggplant to a chicken dish and they charged $5 additional. The menu is a bit strange but I guess I am comparing it to other Thai restaurants as this place is Malaysian and a bit Indian and less Thai. I will go back as the chef here is very good. Stay away from the honey squid appetizer as it is expensive and in my opinion awful...it's a strange crunch as if it were crunchy insects...YUK! But, the entrees and other appetizers are really good. I was a big fan of the former Andaman Sea Recipes before that was replaced by Thai Andaman Sea which was just okay. Then the rent increased (I read) and they moved on. After a complete transformation, Malay opens with new ownership/chef and I am glad to have a such a restaurant in town. The menu is extensive ranging from very reasonably priced to moderately priced, non-spicy to very spicy, rice to noodles, vegetables to meats, Malay to Thai, etc. It is a satisfying place to eat and the staff are pleasant with good service. You can even eat outside with the beautiful view of the Morristown traffic and the train station. The few dishes we tried were all good quality and tasty. This place probably deserves 3.5 stars. Food is fine, but nothing to come back to if you don't live close by. We like Malaysian and Thai food and this place delivers it, it is just you can feel the heat but no taste afiliated with it. Hands down the best Sesame chicken I've ever had. Just the right amount of crisp and the sauce is amazing. The service is great and they remember you if you come in a second time. But at the cash register they post a sign insisting on a $20 credit card minimum, which is contrary to card network rules and indeed also the Federal "CARD Act" which requires card networks to allow $10 minimum charges but allows card networks to prohibit minimums above that. Unlawful == no business from me. One of the waiters apologized, said it was the management's decision and he knows it's unlawful. Maybe some Yelp 1* ratings can help set the manager straight. read more

I loved the vibe the restaurant gave off. I also loved the service that we got. We were treated like loyal customers despite the fact that this was our first time. Unfortunately, one thing I did not love was the food. We went there for their restaurant week lunch special and were able to get the lunch special dishes for 8 dollars. So although the food wasn't too great, I guess I can't complain. But I was not impressed. My particular favorite is the Malay Char Kway Tow and the curry puffs. Even in delivery containers, the food is always nicely presented. Recently visited Malay for the third (and final) time. Pretty good Malaysian food the first two times out. Upon ordering, the server was pushy, trying to get us to order additional appetizers and soft drinks. My chicken appetizer was very salty. Okay, avoid that one in the future. The entree I ordered was absolutely sensational. Wow! I took a sip of water - wow, their water even tastes good. Uh, oh. Telltale sign of MSG. Not heavy MSG, but it appeared that it was used. (Had it been heavy, my jaw would have ached a bit.) Someone in our party got a headache after the meal. She said she has problems with MSG. We did not ask if they use MSG, though based on the prior experiences we didn't think they used it. Not so sure now. You can always ask a restaurant to not use MSG, but you shouldn't have to because the food should stand on its natural preparation. read more
