Some of our friends have been raving about this place,saying this is where they'd get the best Thai in the state. Whilst I'm a bit reserved to make such a statement,our experience was truly a well rounded experience. We ordered a number of appetizers from Chef's special menu, then several entrees including soup,salad, noodles and curries. The only non-authentic meal ordered was the French Soup,which I found too sweet for my liking,but all else was really flavorful. Picked up food here for two this week - the online ordering for pickup took some time to complete as we had to make an account with seamless and could not just use it as a guest. Pickup was easy and the food was ready a bit earlier than the estimated time. We got the curry puff and chicken skewers and we both ordered chicken pad thai (spicy and medium spicy). The food was excellent - flaky pastry with super flavorful filling in the curry puff and tasty chicken with delicious peanut dipping sauce. The pad Thai was very good - it actually had heat and spice as well as great flavor - many Thai places will not make anything truly spicy for take out, but the balance here was just right! I always have a wonderful experience at the Morristown location. Every time I've gone was for dinner and it's always been bustling - in a good way. A few reviews wonder where the French is. It's not exactly fusion, IMO. The French aspect is more in the precision and attention to every ingredient and recipe. C'est de l'école du Cordon Bleu. They serve French onion soup, an excellent filet mignon with French fries (can't get more French than that), steak au poivre, and a few other items, but I usually go for Thai. I've been to the Somerville and Basking Ridge locations and always go for Thai. All 3 locations are excellent and it's not any pricier than other restaurants I frequent. I'm not exactly looking for a bargain when I dine - excellent quality ingredients and the preparation by trained chefs needs to be worked into the price. Regardless, (I was reading some other reviews) every time I've been to the Morristown location, I've had excellent service and delicious fresh food. As for ambiance, it suits my expectations fine. I like the dark wood and the lighting - nothing harsh. They do a great job with the downstairs too. I almost like it better than the upstairs. My go-to is the sea bass. A true must! Seriously. Get the sea bass! It's consistently delicious and always piping hot. No dish sits under a warming light in that place. All meals are served fresh, hot and at the same time! Many fine restaurants are incapable of pulling off that trick. The shrimp-crab spring roll is better than anywhere and I dare anyone to prove me wrong - lol. I don't even know of a restaurant that has such an exquisite spring roll. In addition to the spring rolls and sea bass, we had pad Thai and the pad see ew beef - both perfect (chef kiss). The noodles in both were perfectly textured and flavorful. IMO, it's hard to find a Thai restaurant that puts so much care into every dish. It's obvious the owner and the kitchen take pride in every morsel they present. I can't wait to go back. I love it there but also like to keep it special. read more

A French Thai restaurant close to the green. They have a small menu but consistent food. Don't expect extra spice as they lean more towards French base than Thai. The appetizers are great! The decor is warm and welcoming. read more

Exotic looking food, place is well maintained, service is good except that it feels like 1 person is handling all tables, effect of covid, a scene that has become common in many restaurants. We ordered the Thai red curry, sushi and soft spring rolls. The spring rolls were yummy, the sauce that came with it was especially nice. The red curry was good but seemed pretty runny for a coconut base, it was ok and so was the sushi- pretty good. It is reasonably priced so that is a plus point. read more

I had a chance to stop in Origin Thai 2 for dinner on a weekend and REALLY liked it. I opted for take out and food was ready in 10 minutes. The shrimp pad thai had 5-6 shrimp and was delicious. It wasn't too heavy and there was ample food. The shrimp and scallop dumpling were very tasty. It came with four dumplings and a small container of sauce. I'll definitely be back. read more

2nd time here, 1st time was over a decade ago. Still absolutely delicious. A little bit of a letdown was the escargot. For the price, I believe it was 15 or $16, you've got maybe five snails and they weren't especially seasoned. Despite garlic butter, it actually like salt and flavor. I had the green curry with rice & shrimp, that was delicious. Catching up on reviews during this pandemic and was here earlier this year for a friends birthday. I can't believe I've lived in Morris County for so long and didn't know about this place. It was my first time here and what a great location to celebrate a birthday (or even a date night)! The restaurant has so much space to accommodate large parties (there are 2 floors!) and the ambiance is pretty nice and well decorated :) Prices are a bit pricier than your typical Thai restaurant but there are fancier menu items here. Service was great considering we had such a large party. We ordered quite a few appetizers to share and I ordered the lamb chops for my main entree. Another perk is that it's BYOB! I would lean more towards 4.5 if I could rank it that, but super good, definitely would go back!! We got sat downstairs, a lot quieter than upstairs which was nice. Service was good - waitress was there when we needed her but did not see much of them since they were so busy, glasses were always full of water, food came out quick. Dinner at the folks. Take out. But where? My parents like Origin so on my way from here to there, I picked up a large bag of treats. My folks can no longer tolerate spicy food. No matter. Everything was very fine without the burn factor that I enjoy. Two duck dishes. One Tamarind. The other roasted with a potato cake. And my Mom enjoyed wild boar. With a sauce with coconut milk and lots of green peppercorns. Terrific. Really enjoyed the food. And the order was ready on time, a plus in my book. See you next time. read more

Officially my newest favorite thai restaurant in NJ. I know that's bold if you read my other 40 reviews on thai restaurants I am always raving about the uniqueness of the flavor pallet however, Origin Thai 2 beats all of them by a mile. When you think thai food, it's a basic 6 ingredients with fresh basil to make any dish perfect -- but it's the ratio & imbleshment to those recipes that let Origin Thai 2 stand out from the rest. I came here to try the staples & their French/Thai fusion methodology did not disappoint. The perfection from the chef in team I am not entirely sure how to put into words other than it was 'perfect' -- take a look at my pictures, they have depth in flavor, incredible heat, perfect texture and most importantly adhere to the traditional profiles of Thai cuisine. The actual restaurant is beautiful, clean & spacious -- when you walk in, you'll only see 8 or 9 tables however, they have a fully renovated basement dining area for additional and/or private dining. They had exceptional management & load balancing with respect to service as they were at 100% capacity yet still very promptly & politely brought our delicious dishes to us. In fact, I believe a chef had to come out & bring some dishes as to not keep any guests waiting! Honestly, if I have said anything at all, it's that Origin Thai 2 is out of this world amazing, thank you for a wonderful dine-in & then went back the next day for take out experiences, we will be back again this weekend and maybe next also!!! read more

MTown has a number of really good restaurants.... this is one of them. There's none better here. An the menu is very unique-- fresh seafoods and meats, great sauces and rolls. Salads are also excellent. If you're in Mtown for a show, or just some eats, make sure to give this a try. And BYOB makes adds to the great experience! read more

We're always happy to grab a meal at Origin when visiting family in Morristown. Whether we dine in or get takeout, the dishes are excellent and the portions are so generous! My own preference is their great curry selections, but family members love several of their other meals. Also, the staff is really friendly and recognize us even though it may be months since our previous visit. Highly recommend! read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Morristown and my go to when guests visit. Everything I have ever gotten here has been tasty (all the guests I bring when visiting always LOVE) and the portions are large! My sister and I got the pad se ew and green curry and split. Can never decide which one I love more.. both amazing! Prices are great too for the portions! Staff is very attentive filling our waters often and asking if we were okay (almost too much at one point to be honest...) Only comment I have for improvement is in regards to covid. I understand them being cautious but the plastic cups/lids/straws seemed wasteful when you're still using the silverware etc. as someone who is cautiois with plastic waste, this was bothersome. Menus / credit card holders etc were the usual plastic ones so the cups really seemed unnecessary. Outdoor seating is available and I did notice them wiping the chairs and everything down which is great to see read more

Service price, skin color The moment er walked in the waiter was not happy, we walked in the place had one couple sitting, yet waiter rushed us to order every thing all at once, one more person was to join us, told us if you do not order now you won't get your food after all other tables gets their food, they had only two people working, prices per dish was $20 and had to order one per person, appetizers did not count quantity was small, food was good, lady added 22% tips for 6 people, left over curry and rice staff gave me one container mixed together. I come here for the whole fried "fish of the the day" which is always red snapper($40). Those who get frightened by their food looking like the animal which it came from, caveat emptor! This one is served head on! Be prepared to use your fingers to eat this creature properly. Last night we ordered the special appetizer sampler($18). A limp curry puff. A tasty seafood cigar. The Peking duck salad was the only thing of substance on the plate. And tuna tare tare on seaweed salad. The tuna was supermarket grade, greyish and sad. The portion was barely visible and the poor fish was mashed into a paste. We always order the Pad Kee Mao which is consistently OK. In essence this place is upscale garden variety Thai. It is pricy and not particularly authentic. "French Thai" they call themselves. Ten years ago.. everything claimed to be fusion.. and this place got swept up in the the mania. There is no French influence here. French onion soup is on the menu, and escargot is available. But do two appetizers really warrant a catchy "FUSION" title. There are two floors. Downstairs is typically only open weekend dinners, feels like a basement.. no windows and low ceilings give it dungeon like intimacy. Went in with a small group where everyone ordered something different - from the chef's special menu to the classic pad thai, everyone was extremely satisfied. Not only was the front-of-house staff friendly and helpful, but the chef came out and talked with us! She told us a little about the thinking behind her experimental approach, really embracing fusion, and making it such an enjoyable experience. Would strongly recommend to anyone who likes thai staples done right, or is feeling adventurous and wants to see what the chef has invented lately. You will not be led astray. read more

I was absolutely shocked, delete to see that my favorite in Morristown restaurant has a 3.5 star rating. This is definitely a five-star place. The food is delicious. If you doubt me, try the crispy, curry noodle, or the salmon, or the pad Thai. It's great for takeout and it's absolutely awesome to eat in. It's a beautiful, small, cozy restaurant with a great Thai or southeast Asian feel, and a lower level, which is great for larger parties. Please do not for a moment doubt that the service is not good. I really like the people who work there they are friendly, attentive, and kind.! I've been waited by most of them for years. They kept an eye on my water glass, which I always appreciate. I ordered the Pad Kee Maow Lunch, "medium spicy," and found it fresh and delicious. Food full of flavor! Everything was cooked well and came out in a very reasonable time on a Friday night. My table got the Thai bbq ribs appetizer (it was one of the specials) and it was absolutely phenomenal. Crispy and sticky on the outside and falls apart when you bite into it; and let's not forget about that bbq sauce they put on it. So delicious! For our mains I got the Bangkok duck and it was also fantastic. The sauce was very flavorful and the duck was crispy on the outside. I tried my friend's red curry with shrimp and it was just as good maybe even better, it actually has a little bit of heat to it which is usually not the case in Americanized restaurants. Will probably get that next time. I got the rest of my duck to go and although I didn't give them the rice they gave me a fresh little ball of rice packed away. Will be back! read more

We came in on the Friday night of Labor Day weekend. The staff was friendly and attentive.My husband and I started out with a delicious, crispy Shrimp & Crab Roll appetizer. We had 2 very different entrees, as this is a Thai/French Fusion restaurant. He had the Muscovy Duck Breast with a Grand Marnier reduction sauce and a potato tart, which was like a square slice of flavorful scalloped potatoes. His duck was tender and delicious, especially with that special sauce. The potato tart was flavorful and perfectly cooked. I ordered the Royal Massaman Curry with Jumbo Shrimp. This traditional Thai Curry was perfection! The heat was beautifully balanced with the creamy, sweet coconut milk-based curry. It came with aromatic Jasmine rice. This was so good! At 5:39 pm on a Sunday night and found the waitress not very friendly throughout the evening . She was in a hurry for us to order appetizers and meal together. You had to order 6 dishes as 6 people othereise $5 extra for every plate yiu share . in addition automatically add 22 percent regardless of how poor their service was. A distinctive weird smell in restaurant . Food was average and very small plates compared to the many Thsi places in NJ that we as thai food lovers have visited. The food here was very good, except for the soup. Their Thom Ka Gai was horrible, and I mean unpalatable. I have had this soup many places, many times, and it is a favorite for me. At this restaurant- I couldn't even eat it. I rarely leave food on my plate, but this soup I just couldn't consume. YUCK. Now for the salmon entree- it was DELICIOUS and so flavorful. Went here for lunch with some friends and we were the only ones at their outside table. The service was very great and very timely/quick! The lunch specials came with really good spring roll and salad (too much dressing I thought), but great value! I got the pad see ew with tofu - thought it was okay flavor, something tasted a bit different but happy with the portions! My other friend got the pad see ew with beef and really enjoyed it! My other two friends got the papaya chicken salad which they thought was okay / wouldn't order again but was very fresh and came with really tasty rice that I ended up eating lol. Overall, I would try this place out again - definitely go for lunch if you are looking to get more bang for your buck! read more

Good food, but not so good takeout service. My husband and I unfortunately are not able to go out much as we have a young infant at home. Therefore, we have to settle with takeout. This place used to be good for dining in (I can't speak for how dining service is now), but their takeout absolutely sucks. They give you the smallest portion of rice with the curry entrees, etc. Not even the half pint standard size you get from Chinese restaurants. It's pretty ridiculous as rice is relatively cheap and entrees cost a pretty penny. However, that's just a small part of our frustration with this place. We paid for two extra small rices and do not receive them even though my husband asked the server to make sure!! Either this place stopped giving rice with the curry/basil entrees or there was a lack of care with our order. Also, the server never asks us if we need utensils, chili sauce, or napkins, etc. It's almost as if you need to double check everything to make sure your order is right, which in my opinion is unacceptable. It's ashamed as the food is pretty decent, we probably will not order from here anymore due to the poor service and corner cutting. read more

I don't understand how others haven't t given this place more than 4 stars. This is hands down my favorite Thai place near me. It's has a nice selection with a wide range of veg, seafood, and poultry dishes. The menu is unique compared to other north Jersey Thai places offering your regular menu items of pad Thai or pad see ew. Every time I go back I ask myself why I don't go more often (it's about a half hour away from me). They have always been consistent with top notch quality food. I got the Muscovy duck. Oh my God. I dreamt about this meal that night. Everything is super fresh too. We ordered the scallop and shrimp dumpling and the veggie rolls. I usually get meals with meat, not just veg in them but God damn this roll is so high quality and fresh. I honestly am surprised this place hasn't gotten more hype. Food is good...but the service can be a little slow. The staff was quiet and we had to flag them down each time we needed something (including ordering). The menu is not what I expected, but had the things I love. Its a great lunch spot, although for this trip I was here for dinner. I would say as far as Thai goes its authentic and tastes good. Giving it less stars bc the service was so slow and inattentive. I am willing to go back and give it another shot.
