Sunny Kitchen is one of my favorite Chinese takeout places. At the time of this review I have 90 "check-ins" on Yelp, which means I've probably been there at least 300 or more times. Unfortunately, I feel compelled to knock one star off my previous review, because the part of Sunny Kitchen which I loved the most is gone. No more sushi. The Chinese food is still excellent and the prices are still good, but the sushi at Sunny Kitchen was what really set it apart from other places. From what I understand, the sushi chef chose to retire, and I can't begrudge him that. He worked hard and earned it. Sadly, they don't plan to replace him. Again, the Chinese food is still great. Today I had the Sesame Chicken lunch special and it was delicious. The staff is still friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant is still clean and pleasant, but damn if I don't miss the sushi. read more

It's always Sunny in East Hanover whenever I hit up this place for some of their exceptional made-to-order deliciousness. For many years now I've enjoyed stopping in and grabbing takeout for just about everything that this outstanding menu has to offer.   Can't never go wrong with the classic dishes and even all my favorites from Pepper Steak, Spare Ribs, Sesame Chicken, to General Tso's. Sunny Kitchen is a no-frills Chinese/Japanese takeout spot that pleasantly surprised me with the quality of the sushi. Came in here pretty famished and got the lunch special which is really quite affordable at $7.25 in addition to a crispy cucumber roll, which you can customize with what they put inside if you want. For the lunch special I got salmon avocado and spicy tuna and I must say that the spicy tuna was probably one of the best I've had in a long time. Though this place is very unassuming, I highly recommend you coming by and trying the sushi. I can't really speak for the Chinese food but it seemed pretty popular here because people were coming in an ordering it very frequently. This is more of a takeout restaurant but there are a few tables you can sit at if you want. read more

This is my go to Chinese food restaurant. It's close to my house (walking distance) and the food is on point. I usually get steamed dumplings, egg roll, wonton soup and either Chicken lo Mein or steamed chicken and broccoli with white rice and sauce on the side. I have no complaints. The foods is always hot and fresh. The broccoli is always crisp. They've never messed up my order. You will not be disappointed here with whatever you order. I'm definitely a regular. read more

Pork w. Garlic sauce and shredded beef were AWFUL. We can smell ketchup in Shredded beef - making the whole dish taste totally weird. This is listed in their Szechuan specialties. Pork with garlic sauce was TOO sweet, making it Called the owner- asked if he would make something else because we hated so much. Stopped in for lunch while in the area. We decided to eat in, be forewarned, this is more of a takeout place and there are only 3 tables. Went with a seaweed salad and the three roll special for $10.95, Alaska (cucumber, avocado, salmon), spicy tuna and shrimp tempura. All were decent size, with the spicy tuna being the better of the three. Prices were reasonable and the service was quick but the place was like an ice box and not very comfortable. read more

Just got off the phone with the rudest person ever! Absolutely horrified by how someone working in the service industry can act like that! Didn't ask how I'm paying for a phone/delivery order, tried hanging up on me, finally as I am giving my card # I realized I never even got the total so after reading off my card I asked for a total she started YELLING at me to give the expiration first, after I gave the expiration she gave me the total and hung up the phone. I have no idea if and when my food is arriving (card just got charged - twice - called to find out why, the reason is the rude woman forgot to mention delivery charge so they went ahead and ran the card for a different amount on their own). I am praying the food leaves a better impression than the lady on the phone did. There is a very good reason why Seamless/Grubhub and Delivery do so well and it's to avoid rude people like that. UPDATE: I ended up picking up my food and the staff at the restaurant were really nice (the male staff). Food is quite decent. Updating my one star to 3 stars. I hope they either keep the woman away from phones or explain to her that her attitude will drive customers away. read more

Nope. Got a bunch of lunch specials. Each was bland and dysfunctional in its own unique way. Bland and swimming in oil. Cheaply made and gross. scallops....eew. Chowfun was almost white. Fried Rice was oil and soy sauce. Chicken and Broccoli was almost passable but for the oil. Lomein was a solid 2 on a scale of ten. read more

When you need a General Tso's Fix...Who do you call? HK Kitchen. They are fast (10-15 minutes for delivery), the orders are right, and everything I get there is consistently good. They recently(last year or so) added scallion pancakes, that need some work to get better. Can't beat prices, and speed for dinner. Only 2 booths for eat in....so really a take out/delivery place. Bonus...get your megamilions tickets there. Rarely a line when everyplace else is packed. read more

It pains me a little to write this review. Hong Kong Kitchen was my rave for the longest time. I touted to friends and coworkers that it was a really good place for take-out chinese food. Now it has all changed. The last 4 weeks this place has nose dived in quality. First of all, they are all screaming and yelling. Then when they deal with you, you get the feeling like they can barely be bothered. Now the most important part of any take-out meal, the food. I really do not know what happened but the food has become tasteless. This is not the opinion of just one bad week but 4 consecutive weeks, The food was tasteless. We did not want to believe we could be experiencing it, which is why it took 4 weeks for it to sink in. In those weeks, we ordered garlic shrimp, sesame chicken, spare ribs, pork fried rice, shrimp lo-mein and a couple other dishes. I am here to tell you that every meal had little or no taste. The food is not bad so you will not get sick from it. But if you are looking for a full flavored meal. forget it. How do you make a garlic meal (which is supposed to be spicy) tasteless - totally bland. I hope they turn things around to what was, because they used to be really good but those days are gone, I am sad to say. read more

I used to come here back when I was in Middle School, which was approximately... 6 years ago. It was hard not to come here to get my Chinese Food fix, as it was right across the street. But then I came here a couple more times in high school, actually once in senior year. I have no idea what I was thinking. This place is straight up greasy and NOT ballin'. Not off the hook. Not.. straight up gangstah. Actually, maybe it's a little gantstah. It's just grease, with chicken thrown in. And maybe some rice and I don't know, a vegetable? But once it hits your lips, it's so good. So. Good. I'm glad I live on the other side of town and am somewhat intrigued by the Nasty Woman at Hunan Wok because otherwise I'd be all up in HK Kitchen's grill. I have a thing for fat, especially during the lunch day. Oh and I've sat down here each time, because who doesn't like to eat in unsanitary conditions? But still, we all know that Chinese food leads to a most filling and affordable lunch. And sometimes that's all a girl really needs. That and a big ass quart of Hot and Sour Soup. read more

I don't know how many times I burned my legs from keeping the take out on my lap as a kid (yeah I guess I wasn't the brightest crayon in the pack.. should have put it on the floor.. but I've had upside down lo mein mishaps). This is the only take out Chinese place I've ever used in town (sure sure.. I went to Royal Buffet and that rando one near the old Pearl Express but I never got take out). I went here recently and I'm pretty sure the same people own it. They're doing much better than their next door ever changing neighbors. The food quality is still the same (been going here at LEAST a decade.. methinks more). Oh..HK we've been through a lot. Does anyone remember their cinnamon period? I don't know.. but all the lo mein that came out of that place tasted like cinnamon at one point. I still ate it. haha.. Or the excessive onion period? Ate that stuff too. My mom always got soup from here whenever I was sick. Even my health food brother even used to eat their dumplings (steamed of course). Decent food. Great prices (their combo lunch specials are a steal). Portions have gotten a tad smaller (they're using plastic containers instead of the aluminum.. not sure how I feel about that), but that's good for us that always want more more more. Sushi was very fresh. This is definitely a "to go" restaurant. I enjoyed the usual sushi options (California Roll, Spicy Tuna, Spicy Shrimp, Shrimp tempura and Tuna Tempura). The miso soup was a good size, filled with seaweed/tofu/scallions/onions, loved it. I would definitely order from them again. The prices were very reasonable! read more

I work around the corner and go here for quick and quality sushi. They have great and cheap lunch specials (2rolls for $7 and 3 rolls for $10- but don't quote me yet). No one wears gloves...filthy aprons & store, I saw the cook wiped his sweaty forehead, then reach for the container and picked up the chicken to cook!! I called it to their attention, he then reached for the broccoli to cook and never washed his hands! Cheapest and best! Excellent vegetarian options, especially for a place that doesn't cater exclusively to vegetarians. BAE likes the meat options and often gets the General Tsao's chicken. It was a nice surprise when I noticed they had opened another Asian cuisine choice along Ridgedale Avenue in East Hanover. They did a nice job with the look...very contemporary decor. There are lots of choices on the menu, including sushi. This is nos just another Chinese food takeout joint. My dish was delicious. If you know Hong Kong Kitchen and you like it, trying Sunny Kitchen is a no brainer. The same people who own Hong Kong are the ones who opened this new spot. This place offers the best chinese food I've ever had. I dined in twice and it was both very satisfying. The food was very fresh and delicious. Me and my friends ordered crab rangoon, chicken wings, chicken pad thai, sesame chicken, and chow fun. I'm generally a picky eater but I enjoyed all of them and would recommend them to my peers. We're vegetarian, and a lot of places in the area have mistakenly given us meat or had really greasy food. This place has been consistently awesome for vegetarians. The Thai, sushi and Chinese dishes are delicious and wonderful. They are so nice there, friendly, reasonably priced. Stopped by here looking for a new sushi place in East Hanover. I didn't realize until I got here that it was mainly a takeout place but they had 2 seats for eating in. The inside was probably the cleanest takeout place I've ever seen. The food was fast and delicious, my sushi was super fresh.
