Very unassuming location with surprisingly good, authentic Chinese. I've been here several times and have tries most of the menu. The bao are all great along with the dumplings. There are plenty of uncommon choices to try that cover all types of palates. Noodles are also great if you're looking for a larger meal however I prefer to order several of the smaller dishes to share. Service is quick and efficient while prices are very reasonable. A hole in the wall place with delicious authentic food which you would not expect from the fancy exterior. There are a decent amount of tables for dining in although it seems like they cater more to the takeout crowd. Everything we tried tasted authentic and made in house and not generic frozen then fried stuff. We enjoyed the braised beef noodle soup, dumplings, and scallion pancakes. Personally I would have enjoyed the dumplings and scallion pancakes even more if they had been accompanied by the sweet vinegar soy sauce which would not be authentic so that's just me! My sister ordered soup dumplings from two towns over. I figured fine, fine, I'll order something. She's got the taste for them, and maybe I should do that for myself... because they were wonderful. Totally her thing. I got the very unusual pig ear dish because why not, ultra authentic. Weird texture but tasted good and just something fun to gnaw on and wonder about. I also got purple rice congee for the table that was delicious and loved by all. Short verdict since this was delivery, so nothing I can comment on service or ambience. East Flour in Livingston continues to fill a special niche of Chinese cuisine that is sadly hard to find in the suburbs: a menu of just noodles, dumplings and dim sum. The menu isn't large, and the dim sum is limited, but what they do offer is all freshly made and delicious. Sadly, one of my favorite menu items, the Beef Tendon Noodle Soup is no longer offered. I can only speculate that beef tendon was just a step too far for Livingston palates and it wasn't selling. Maybe one day they'll bring it back. Fortunately, their most popular menu item, the Pork Soup Dumplings ($9.95), are still on the menu and remain excellent. Always prepared fresh, they take a few extra minutes to make, but it's worth it. The dough is just the right thickness, and always perfectly cooked. They arrive still steaming and the soup inside always provides a burst of flavor that, when combined with a little soy sauce, vinegar and chili oil is one of Chinese cuisines' truly perfect bites. My only criticism is they only offer chopsticks and flimsy plastic disposable silverware. Neither is ideal for eating soup dumplings, but it's really a minor complaint. The staff continues to be friendly and efficient. The restaurant is small inside, but I've never been unable to find a table. If you're unfamiliar with soup dumplings, Google them, then visit East Flour. You'll be glad you did. read more

I've been here 3x already in the past few weeks. My favorite is their pork soup dumplings, beef noodle soup, and the seaweed salad. Really good hole-in-the-wall Chinese specialty spot. Specializes in noodles and dumplings, which both hit the spot. Menu is not super extensive as they focus on making the dishes they offer well. The noodles are excellent and we left stuffed from the generous portions. The crab/pork soup dumplings were also a hit. There's also a pork and shrimp dumplings that are larger the typical dumplings and with fresh ingredients. This store does busy takeout/pickup business but there are several tables available for dining-in. Very glad we gave this a shot again recently and it will become a staple in the area. read more

Heard about this place for a while, finally got a chance to try it tonight. I had the beef tendon noodle soup, and hubby had the pork chop noodle soup. They are both excellent! I really like the spicy level of the tendon soup. The texture of the noodles are excellent. Also had the purple rice congee. It was really good. Price is not cheap, but the food is good. Randomly saw this place pop up when I typed in "Restaurants" in Livingston. I was looking for a quick bite and when I saw "dim sum, bubble tea" - I looked no further. Let me just warn you, this place looked closed down when you arrive. It's very dark from the outside and the windows are covered up. I had to check Google to make sure it didn't close down. To my surprise, there were people in there. The person who took my order was super nice! Not much room for seating on the inside - maybe like 3 tables. Seems more of a take out. Let me start with the bubble tea. I really enjoyed it because it was not painfully, candy sweet like some bubble teas are. I got the passion fruit black tea and that's what it tasted like- not artificial. The boba was nice and chewy. Next, the scallion pancakes were amazing. Super light and crispy- and the plum sauce was a perfect match. The peaking duck buns were also amazing!!! What a great filling to put in a bun. I've tried East Flour twice now. Once with outdoor seating and once takeout. Right now they are take out only. The first time I tried the spicy hot pot which was very good as well as a variety of delicious appetizers. This time I started with special beef noodle soup. Fantastic with a rich broth, a lot of beef, bok choy and noodles. Definitely would get that again. My Daughter got the braised beef noodle soup which she liked but it was spicier than she expected. The pork soup dumplings were excellent even as a takeout item. Pan fried veggie dumplings were big and tasty. The pan fried Peking duck bun is outstanding. The chicken noodle soup my wife had was good and she was impressed with the quality of the chicken. The won ton soup was good. This is in the rotation for us. We also coconut sweet potato milk tea which although a bit chunky was good. I tried the Longan honey lychee fruit tea. No boba but delish. I am not a bubble tea drinker, but they had a large selection to chose from. I was here for the noodle soups. I LOVE noodle soups-they are my ultimate comfort food from childhood. Since I was feeling a nostalgic, I went for the beef tendon noodle soup, soup dumplings (soup dumplings!!!!) and spicy chicken gizzards. If you have never had soup dumplings before, please try some. I had my spoon ready to catch the soup and these did not disappoint. While they were a bit small, they were full of flavor and I was very satisfied with the amount of soup. The noodles, and more importantly the soup, were good as well, with nice flavor and not too oily. I ended up going back and ordering the beef spicy hot pot....along with more soup dumplings. The spicy gizzards were not as spicy as I would have preferred, but they were delicious and we ate the contents of the small container in one snacking session while watching a baseball game on television. It is a small place and it's limited in terms of seating, but I wouldn't expect much from a restaurant that opened during COVID. Definitely a takeout kind of joint. As for the food, they have Taiwanese/Shanghai style foods and it is fantastic. I had the minced meat noodle and it brought me back to my time in China when mixed with the soy sauce and black vinegar . The chicken noodle soup was okay but I did like the chicken more than other places. Feels like you're having authentic regional Chinese food- there are quite a few Taiwanese and Cantonese options. I ordered via UberEats. Food arrived still steaming, so that was good. I ordered the braised beef noodle soup, scallion pancake with chili beef, and Sam sun dumplings. All were really good- tasty, fresh, good portions. I add chili crisp to everything, but the soup had a nice flavor without it. The beef was soft and it was a generous portion of noodles too. The dumplings were full of meat and the dough was not thick, a perfect bite. The scallion pancake was a little oily, but crispy and the beef was flavorful. This place is definitely authentic but that's not necessarily a good thing. I feel like Westerners need to be warned. It's a hole in the wall complete with dirty floors, cardboard boxes and shelving everywhere due to lack of storage space. There is no silverware, only plastic ware (which makes eating soup dumplings problematic). You'd be better off ordering takeout. The pan fried dumplings are nice and doughy. Do NOT order the chicken feet. They are served cold in a plastic to go container and they refused to warm them up stating that it's not traditional (they've always been warm at any other dim sum place Ive ever been to). The dim sum selection is not that diverse. Don't expect taro cakes or sumai or hawkow or phoenix roll etc. They do have what they call a leaking duck roll but it's some kind of sauce that was sweeter than I expected with bits of duck. The hot pot is nice, but again, super authentic so if you don't like the taste of spicy szchechuan peppercorn, I would pass on it since that is the only flavor in it. I Would not return. read more

This location used to be Hakuta Ramen. Now it is East Flour. Hopefully that clears up any confusion. T We have fallen madly in love with this restaurant. The first time I came to try them out I had a car full of kids and called to order while in their parking lot. The lady was nice enough to bring my order out to us! That was so super helpful and nice I was blown away. Once we tasted their food we fell madly in love so quickly! Their soups are so amazing. Such rich flavor. Like a big hug in every bowl. Very comforting and delicious. You can tell they pay attention to every detail and put so much love and care into their food. Noodles are handmade fresh and delicious. We come 30 mins away to enjoy the food here. Soup dumplings I haven't found anywhere else and they have them here we order at least 2 every time!! I loved my food from East Flour. I've gotten both take out and dine in and it's always been good. Small staff that works hard is quick despite being a small team.
