Oriental Kitchen is located in a mini mall. There's not a ton of parking and be careful with pedestrians wandering around the lot. There isn't much space inside the restaurant, so I am assuming most orders are take out. I ordered the House Special Lo Mein. It was typical of most Chinese restaurants. There seem to be more lo mein noodles than I'm accustomed to and the shrimp were small and of decent quantity. No surprises here. A few weeks ago, my husband and I found ourselves both sick (achoo sick) and struggling to cook at home. Eventually we decided to order takeout from Oriental Kitchen after passing by it countless times while driving down S. Livingston Ave. The Yelp reviews seemed to be hit or miss, but we were pleased. It was good Chinese takeout (vegetarian husband approved). OK doesn't skimp on the variety of veggies in its vegetable fried rice. We both liked the vegetable with bean curd (#128). The Moo Shu Vegetable is pretty good also. I would have wanted some wood ear mushroom up in there, but the vegetables were fresh and sauce was tasty. We've ordered a few times since then. So I had a chance to try out some non-veggie friendly but childhood favorites - fried chicken wings, boneless pork rib, and cold sesame noodles (under the appetizer menu section) - thumbs up. we have been loving the food from Oriental Kitchen discovered it last month and have ordered 3 times already but last night I was huge disappointed. my Egg Foo Young pancakes were completely burnt on one side . They had to know they burned them but served them anyway, they were horrible. That is not good customer service to serve you customer food you know is ruined. I saw him wiped his nose with his bear hand and proceeded to drop the mucous from his hand onto the grill into the items he was preparing. sick and disgusting is how I felt. I had already paid for a pick up order, i told the cashier that I did not want my order she can keep the money. she did not ask me for an explanation bc she saw me looking at the cook when he did that. Order food on a weekday at 11:30 for pickup at noon. When I arrived at 12:05, the store was closed and nobody was inside. I got other food and they never called about my order. When I called them at 2:00PM, I was told I needed to go on-line to cancel my order which was not possible and otherwise I would be charged for food. My credit card was charged and the person on the phone was totally unapologetic. Food is marginal, service is terrible. Avoid, there are much better options. read more

This has become one of our new favorite Chinese food restaurants. The food has been fresh and very good. It's that simple. Their egg rolls are crispy and not very greasy at all. Wonton soup is good but I like the wontons better than the broth itself. I literally almost devoured an entire quart of pork fried rice the last time I ordered it. Cooked to perfection. My husband really enjoys the General Tso's and I have been ordering the white meat chicken chow mein which is full of white meat chicken and "just the right of crunch" vegetables. Service is fine - the place is nothing to write home about on the inside and the parking can be a b*tch in that lot, but it's worth it for a good meal from this joint. read more

The food here is REALLY good! Everything is well seasoned and it's not greasy at all. The restaurant is extremely clean and there's plenty of parking. The lady at the desk is always nice when we order in person or over the phone. This is our favorite place to go to when we're craving Chinese food. I am going to start out by saying - the food is good! There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. However, the customer service is horrible. One night after work, I ordered my food and went to go pick it up. When I got in, I asked to pay for my food. I gave the lady who always wears the hat my card. She snatched the card out of my hand and I was taken aback from that. So, she puts the receipt and my card on the counter, I reached to get both and of course, she snatched it out of my hands as well and she gave it to the other customer standing next to me. The customer told her thats not their card. She just stared at me and gave me both, however, did not say sorry for snatching it out of my hands. They are very stingy when it comes to extra duck sauce and hot sauce. They only put one of each in the bag and if you asked for more, they will have an attitude. I called once and the guy answered. Superb. This place is the best take out Chinese in Livingston. I always try when I'm in the mood for Chinese to go there for lunch. My favorite thing there is the Chicken with Garlic Sauce. The best dish on the menu. Not too saucy and has a perfect amount of spice. The best is the lunch special. For a little more than $5 you get a huge portion of what you ordered plus Fried Rice. Plus for 50 cents more a pop you can get an egg roll or soup. Ok, now the fried rice. It has the perfect amount of vegetables to rice to egg ratio. Honestly, I love this place. Really enjoyed the food here! Have been on a bit of a mission to find some good Chinese food when that craving hits and had several disappointments until now. The food is very fresh and comes in very big portions (this was a nice surprise!). The container of my sesame chicken was about to burst. Another plus was speaking with gentleman up front, I learned that general tso's is actually deep fried earlier and not made fresh. It is cooked again later with the sauce since apparently it needs to be fried for a long time. He recommended the sesame and it was a great call. It tasted fresh and again was in abundance! This is the best Chinese takeout place in Livingston. My family and I have been eating here ever since the early 90's and when I was a kid. Their beef and broccoli, egg foo young, hot and sour soup, and the ultimate best chicken wings. My family and I fight over the chicken wings because of how juicy, tender, and crispy they are. The customer is not always right!!! In the past I would have given them 4 stars as they are the better chinese restaurant in town. I have been ordering from them for years, but doub't I will be ordering from them again after tonight. Our order was incorrect and I called them to try and get it resolved. I give it short of a 5 star rating because I do miss the original owners when they ran the place when I was a kid when the restaurant was next to King's by the old VHS store. The cashier could be a little less pushy and the prices are kinda high but it is livingston so I don't expect nothing less than overpriced things. Our first time in many many years ordering from OK. We typically get from Mr Chu. But we had some errands around ORiental Kitchen, so figured, why not ? Feh ! Food was pasty, soggy, not much taste and quality of the steak and chicken was awful. Hunan beef could only eat a few bites of the steak and spit it out and gave to the dog. Veggies were ok but in that pasty sticky sauce. Chicken in steamed chicken also rubbery. Ps, the guy answering the phone was not helpful when ordering and hard to hear him. Everyone's tastes vary so I guess it would explain how my opinion differs with others here. I've gone here several times. It's just ok. I wouldn't call it great or even above average. Just very average Chinese food. And, with so many other places in the area, I would try elsewhere. The only possible reason for me to go would be the prices because the prices other Chinese restaurants in the area seems insanely high. The price here however have gone up since they moved to their new location. So, even this is not a compelling reason anymore although it's still slightly cheaper than say Chef Wong. read more

What a classic Fubar. I ordered from phone so i could easily pickup. Hoping the new guy who answered the phone who spoke with a handful of marbles in his mouth got the two item order correct. He was obviously panicked as it was busy and he was the only one up front. Both phones were ringing non stop. A man walked in with an angry face and said he wanted a refund. Why. He ordered from Doordash. He got the wrong order and it was double the price it should have been. He gave an $11 tip. He said to me because DD screwed up this guy told him he would have to drive here to pick up his cold meal. The man behind the counter went on a tirade for 15 min, meanwhile many phone calls were not picked and the store had a line of 5 people. Customer service =0. The guy said he was calling Amex and nobody was getting paid. If you are not prepared to do business, you will not have a business. Get rid of this oaf and bring back the girl. I agree to Tyrone B. I am local at Livingston for 17 years. I order Oriental Kitchen's food from time to time. They are best take out food place around here. If you have problem with OIL just ask them put less in the dishes. They will gladly do it for you. I gave them 5 star because the food is really good.
