"Meh"lawi's Pizza Went for the second time this weekend and was again left unimpressed. To begin with, the line was long and the prices were high. It then took 25 minutes to make and get to our table a pizza that should take all of 10 minutes to put together and cook. All of this would be fine if the food was actually good but it isn't. The crust is soggy, the toppings are uninspired and the cheese was not fully melted. Really unimpressive. I want to like it but I just can't. read more

The lunch special was outstanding! Pizza, drink, and salad for $10. Delicious!! The salad had micro greens galore with arugula, radicchio, kale, shaved Brussels sprouts, spinach, endive, and more and the white balsamic dressing was light and flavorful!! The pizzas were much larger than expected with an airy wood fired crust that was soft and chewy and not greasy at all. We had an arugula citrus pizza that had a mountain of arugula and the balsamic margherita (sp?). Both were absolutely delicious and we have plenty left for dinner. The service was friendly and helpful. We just had an unexpectedly amazing lunch and I highly recommend this location. read more

It's a 5 star simply because of how delicious their dessert pizzas are. I have been coming here since they opened and I have to say the only thing I'm disappointed in is their higher prices... And smaller portions. They have been stingy with their fruit lately on the dessert pizza which makes me sad when I feel like I am over paying for it. BUT I get it. Giving a meal to those in need in Africa is worth the extra money. That's awesome. As far as their regular pizzas go, they're good, just not what you'd except from a normal pizza. So if you're a papa johns, dominos, or little ceasers fan, this probably isn't the place for you. I hope they continue to keep up their high quality and fresh ingredients! read more

For those times you can't decide if you want a pizza or a monstrous tostada there is Malawis. I've had soda crackers thicker than that crust. There's a decent pizza called the "Santa Fe" that is more tostada than pizza, but the others lean the other way. All I've tried have been good. Even the sample smores dessert pizza was good. The best part are all the "good cause" signs around me whilst I ingest a whole village's worth of calories. I do feel good about myself! read more

I really love this place but why have the sizes of the pizzas shrunk? The pizzas are all delicious and I have yet to try one that I am not a fan of. My wife agrees and especially loves their dessert pizzas. However, the prices have increased and the sizes have decreased which is unfortunate. Almost $12 for some of their pizzas! And for us foodies, they are personal pizzas for sure. The flavors and toppings are creative and delicious like I said before so while we do enjoy eating here, it has become less frequent. I feel like the bill is unfair for a non-sit down restaurant with no waiter service. read more

Think of it more like an unfolded quesadilla. The crust is tortilla-thin and the ingredients (albeit tasty) are spread thin. Hopefully the kids in Malawi are getting something a little more substantial. The breadsticks are underwhelming; literally sticks (well, braids) of bread with very little flavor. The sauces are good and the ingredients taste fresh, but you're not getting much pizza for $10. If you bring a BYU basketball ticket within a day of the game (assuming the Cougs scored at least 80 points, which they usually do), you get a two-for-one deal, which makes a mediocre price into an excellent one. read more

I'm a fan of Malawi's. Not the best pizza in the Valley (p12 in my opinion), but good enough to keep me coming back every 2 or 3 months (which is a lot for me. The fact that it's walking distance from my work is a bonus). I seem to always get the Capri or the Thai pizza. I generally try to try most of the menu for places I go to somewhat regularly, but those have kept me happy. Both are a fresher option to some of the heavier, but good options like Bbq chicken. The dessert pizzas are awesome too. Rarely get them because I normally only eat 4 or 5 of the slices. I always intend to save them for my wife, but usually they get eaten as an afternoon snack in my office. read more

I should start by saying that I am a GIANT pizza fan. Wait...I don't mean I am a fan of giant pizzas, although I love giant pizzas too. But I digress... What I mean to say is that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE pizza. And I'm usually not too hard to please, so take this review for what it is worth. I had the Chicken, Bacon, Ranch pizza and thoroughly enjoyed it. Granted, I have had better CBR pizzas (that is what we hardcore pizza fans call it...okay, that's probably not true, but for the sake of brevity, I will refer to it as such). The pizzas are thin crust, but not lacking in flavor. My wife had the Caesar salad which she too really enjoyed. Let me warn all who enter that this restaurant falls into a category that is ever increasing in our society and fooling us into paying higher prices. Expect to pay sit-down prices even though this is not a sit down restaurant. I'm tired of these restaurants where you order at a counter, yet because someone brings the food to your table, they expect you to pay more and give a tip. Don't these people realize that Carl's Jr. has been doing this for years? I don't think that anyone after having their food walked to their table at CJ tells themselves, "Gee, what service, I wish they were charging me as much as a sit down restaurant, and please let me tip you for providing 1/100th the amount of service of a typical server." Now that I am somewhat off my soapbox, I am not typically a fan of fancy man's pizza. Fancy man's pizza is typically thin, overpriced, and served in a fancy setting that is a far cry from your traditional lower-class man's pizza parlor. This pizza fulfills all of these requirements but it stands out in one aspect: it is actually pretty good. The restaurant while fancy is certainly inviting and pleasant. There is a huge selection of fountain drinks, far more than typically found in most restaurants, and that I love. If it weren't sorta expensive it would probably be one of my favorite restaurants in Provo. read more

The pizza here is great, but the atmosphere is confusing. The servers wear hairnets and baseball caps of the most garish orange. It looked like I was in a cafeteria. This restaurant used to be very classy looking, but recently looks less and less so. The price that they ask for the pasta and pizza demands a high sense of sophistication and presentation. People are paying 10 dollars for a single pizza. When the standard of appearance is that of McDonalds, that should render the pizza less expensive. The food is overpriced, and there is not enough atmosphere to make up for the difference. read more

Loved Malawi's! I got the Pesto Roasted Chicken pizza, and the hubs got the Safari. We both loved our pizzas. The thin crust is remarkable, and the pizza was packed with toppings and flavor. Really fun place to take the fam. Located in the river woods and there is a lot of space. The line can back up a bit just to order. it's really a fast casual version of California pizza kitchen. So you can save a few bucks but the quality is very average. I ordered the Thai chicken peanut pizza. It came with a pile of lettuce on top but I couldn't really find any cheese. Good flavor overall but the crust wasn't very good. read more

Had not been here in a long while because they closed the Lehi/ Highland location but had two $20 gift cards so drove from Draper to eat with my daughter. The one gift card said it was a promotional card so you had to spend the whole amount in one sitting. I ordered $20+ of food and gave them my gift card. They said they couldn't accept it because the old GM gave these out too much-probably embezzled the money from the customer then gave these promotional cards instead of a valid card. The cashier claims they even called the new GM and they could not accept it so I gave them my other gift card and they tried to plug in the number and claim they couldn't accept it because it was only valid at the Spanish Fork location... this wasn't purchased at the Spanish fork location so how could it only be valid there. The person who gifted these to us got ripped off and I wasted my time coming here considering they wouldn't honor any of the $40 I had in gift cards from their restaurant. Seems shady. Off to eat pizza somewhere else. read more

I love the idea of them donating a meal, but if they're going to charge as much as they do to sustain that idea, then the food needs to be a little more creative; don't just offer the same idea for a pasta and a salad and a pizza...shake it up. read more

I had the Malawi Capri pizza and loved it! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The pizza was amazing! The ingredients were very fresh. The pizza was thin crust and had Alfredo sauce, cheese, and balsamic vinegar drizzled with tomato and basil on top. Everything tasted very light and very flavorful. Reasonable food, but way overpriced. Thin crust pizza is good, this is not that. It's a soggy tortilla for $10 and it's not filling. Had the Greek salad which was good but $10 and no protein included. i gotta admit that when i first saw this restaurant, i was confused. i thought "i didn't know they had pizza in malawi?" i get it now. took me a little bit, and i finally found someone to explain that one to me. anyway, to the food. since we were coming here to eat real quick before heading on a trip, i didn't get too adventurous with my ordering. i just got their pepperoni pizza, so i could share it with my kid. and i got their salad with caprese (don't remember the name). the pizza was pretty good, but my kid didn't take to it. i'm learning more and more that she has specific tastes, and she prefers thick crust on her pizza. one day, i will change her. oh! but the salad! it was soooo good. really fresh. really filling. really tasty! my husband ordered the pesto with chicken, and his was outstanding too. his dish was so good, i kept trying to dip my pizza into it. unfortunately, the table was so large i could barely reach. overall, we had a pretty good experience. the atmosphere was nice. the place was enormous and super clean and bright. staff was friendly and helpful, especially since they had 2 ordering stations and a giant new-to-us ordering system. i'm a big fan of their soda fountain too. ginger ale at a soda fountain speaks volumes to me. i do have one question: wouldn't one order equal to many meals for children in malawi? read more

It's really clean there, and the big plus is that for every meal you buy there they donate a meal to the county of Malawi in Africa. The pizza was great even the dessert pizza. Food was great. They had everything I would want in a restaurant, tv's, small cubed ice, big seating areas, a tree, and an open kitchen. The temperature was really cold which made it hard to settle in at first. The workers were great and helpful. However the manger (I'm assuming) was kinda pushy while taking our order. The atmosphere was pleasant and the food was pretty good. I liked the variety of pizza choices. After much contemplation and back and forth, I ordered the Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza. While I didn't find anything amazing about this particular pizza, it was good. The Mac and Cheese pasta dish I ordered for my kids was pretty decent too. The biggest and best part of dining at Malawi's for me (and why I gave them 4 stars) is their gluten free options. Most of the members of my extended family have Celiac's Disease, and it's almost impossible to find a place we can all go out to together. Malawi's has now given us a new and great place to go together. We ordered a gluten free dessert pizza for everyone to share before we left and it was awesome. It's hard to find gluten free foods at a restaurant, but it's even harder to find gluten free foods that taste delicious and are affordable too. Way to go Malawi's for accomplishing the almost impossible. read more
