We were very impressed by Malawis! The restaurant was clean, including the outdoor seating, the staff was friendly, and we got our pizza rather quickly. The ingredients all tasted fresh (I don't typically like tomatoes but really enjoyed the bruschetta on the chicken bacon ranch pizza). We were very impressed by the quality! If you are a fan of wood fired pizza, you'll be a fan of Malawis.
Place was empty on a Saturday in July. Odd, but the whole mall, was empty. We had the place to ourselves and they've redone the place. It's smaller than it used to be. The veggie pizza was okay. Lacking in flavor. I added crushed red pepper but it needed more. The Malawi pizza was more flavorful. We do like the thin crusts, but I'll have to try a different pizza next time. Their lunch specials were nice because it came with a side salad but if you look at the photo, they put the salad on a plastic lid. Since the remodel the restaurant feels more fast-dining compared to before the remodel. Not sure when the remodel happened, it's been awhile since our last visit.
Malawi's Pizza was good. They where really fast cooking the pizzas and getting them to us. This is a more fancy type of pizza so it might be for everyone. My kids disliked the five cheese pizza. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice.
Now if you are looking for some cheap good pizza go to Costco because this is definitely more gourmet. However, if you are looking for more than just a average pizza come to this place and give it a try. I usually get one of the signature pizzas but during this trip I was with a toddler so I stuck to just cheese. Either way it was still delicious. I won't go here without grabbing a breadstick and ranch. It's my favorite part of the meal. I also love that you are doing some good when buying a meal there.
Malawi's is a good pick when out for pizza. They downsized and reduced the menu, but still have some great options for the family. We get the meal combo that comes with a personal pizza and side salad. The BBQ Chicken and Pesto Chicken pizza are flavorful. Wife enjoys their plain cheese and bread sticks. A meal purchased here will be matched for a child in Malawi, Africa. They changed up the design completely when they downsized, making it feel like a fast food chain when dining in.
So I technically would do a two star review because of the following two reasons: I'm a picky pizza toppings person and when it comes to a Margherita pizza, I find that most places don't put enough basil on it. So I made sure to stress this point with them and asked they put extra basil on it. Unfortunately, they didn't and the BBQ chicken pizza we got was basically burnt on the crust to the point you couldn't enjoy the flavor. However, due to the cause they are a part of, the friendly and happy seeming staff, and nice casual interior, I decided to give them a 3 star rating. I would have loved to do 4 stars but I just can't get past those two reasons. On the other hand, each pizza was pretty tasty. The chicken bacon ranch was delicious and decent. The fresh parsley on the BBQ with the onions and sauce was a surprise of blended flavor in the mouth. The BBQ sauce also wasn't over powering. The sauce for the Margherita was an almost perfect flavoring. The pizza dough is the perfect thickness and you don't feel like you have a dinner roll left over for the actual crust part. Lol I will be willing to try them again but I think it may be a good idea to make sure the pizza isn't burnt, or that the extra toppings were added before serving the pizza to the customer. It would have made this a great experience instead of an okay experience.
Changing from two stars to five. Originally I wasn't enjoying the pizza first time. But they've gone a lot better and I've learned to order what they are best for. Every time I come in the owner has called me and welcomed me back. Very friendly and very comfortable place to be. Just don't order the margarita pizza or it will fall apart. Instead go with the barbecue chicken and you will not be led astray. Also the lunch special is really nice. It comes with a drink and a small salad. A perfect size lunch
The bread twists were really good, I especially love the grain side with the ranch. The chicken bacon ranch pizza was better than the pepperoni, but my son ate the entire pepperoni so both were really good. They bought out the pizzas within a matter of minutes because they were cooked right from the wood fire pizza oven. They were offering a limited pumpkin dessert pizza which took longer because they had to pull that from the freezer/fridge to thaw it. It was quite tasty drizzled in Carmel syrup.
I haven't been here for over a year, I went here with a few friends for lunch today and it was AWESOME! We all got their lunch special that was $10 it included a pizza, salad and drink! The pizza came out looking just like the picture and tasted amazing! The Manager Mark even let us try the strawberry Carmel dessert, it was so yummy. The food presentation and the Employees were friendly! I definitely won't wait another year to go back, I will be going a couple times a month! Thanks guys for an amazing lunch!!!!
Malwai's is pretty good. I would not say it is the best pizza in the workd but it is relatively good. Theg also have pretty good salads, pastas in desserts. Would not be my first choice for pizza, but definitely a top choice when in the Riverwoods. The atmosphere here is pretty cool with the tree in the middle, the african inspired art pieces ans they have a few tvs hanging up as well.
It's rare that I give a place 5 stars but this place is 100% deserving. I have been there many many times, tried many things from their menu and have never been disappointed! Really nice staff, great pizza! Got chicken bacon ranch cauliflower pizza and the olive oil was a nice touch! Plus you buy a meal a meal goes to a kid in Africa! The owner also brought our son our a free little dessert. Fun place! read more

It was a busy Friday night. They warned us it might take a while even though we were seated immediately. We get it. They said maybe 30 minutes max. 40 minutes later our burnt pizza arrived. Burnt pizza. Burnt breadsticks. Not good. Not tasty. The wait would have been worth it if it was great pizza. It had all the appearances. They make it fresh. The fire is blazing in front of you. And then they give you unacceptable burnt pizza. They had to see how burnt it was but I'm sure they didn't want to start over after it took 40 minutes to burn our pizza. read more

We went to the movies so decided to eat before the movie.. first time at this little outdoor mall and really nice area.. we are from outta town so it was cool to enjoy the area.. my pizza loving family truly enjoyed the pizza we devoured it. It was Amazing!! Fast and delicious. Will return!!! So goood!! read more

I haven't been here for over a year, I went here with a few friends for lunch today and it was AWESOME! We all got their lunch special that was $10 it included a pizza, salad and drink! Malawi's Pizza is definitely worth a try! I tried it years ago and wasn't that impressed but I'm glad I gave them a second chance. I recently tried it again and the pizzas were so good! My favorite was probably the Capri pizza. It was so light and delicious! I loved the grizzle of balsamic on it! I also had the Citrus Arugula and it was good to! It was so fresh with the arugula on top! I would say the pizzas are on the pricey side being around $12 each. However, you could share a pizza depending on how much you eat. The pizzas are good size. I definitely will be back to try out more pizzas! read more

Amazing! All the food was fresh & made super fast & delicious!! We got the margarita pizza (light & airy crust!), breadstick with marinara sauce, & Caesar salad were all gone before I even got a chance to take a picture The berry greens salad pictured was also SO good! They also give back meals to kids in need in Africa so definitely check this place out! read more

The Pizza is amazing - with its thin crust cooked to perfection in a wood burning oven. I am from NYC and I know good pizza... The salad I ordered was AMAZING - I am going to say it was the best salad (named Berry Super Greens Salad) I have maybe ever had. I ate in with two friends who also throughly enjoyed the food and dining experience. Brave Malawi's ! I am coming back soon - I loved that Citrus Arugula Pizza ! read more

We've made a few visits to Malawi's since we began visiting Utah on a regular basis. When it first opened we were big fans and we still enjoy it but not quite as much as we used to. First, it's a pizza style comparable with Mod, Pieology, Blaze, places like that except you don't really create your own pizza. There are a variety of pizzas to choose from however and they appear to be cooked in a wood-fired oven. The crust is thin which allows for very quick cooking time. The pizza is fine. It's not great pizza but again it's very comparable to the places we mentioned. The biggest difference is really the cost, as Malawi's is more expensive. They do donate a "meal" to children in Malawi for each meal sold in the restaurants so maybe that is part of their rationale for the pricing. They offer a variety of pastas and salads as well. Again, decent food. Again, overpriced, especially the "half-size" portions. Keep in mind there is no table service here other than to drop off your food. The decor inside is beautiful and themed to their mission. The service has been good, though it seems sometimes all of your order arrives at once and at other times half of your group is done eating before the remainder get their food. You do stand in line at a register to order. If price isn't an issue for you this is a unique place in some regards and perhaps a place your guests from out-of-town might enjoy. read more
Ok, let me first say this...any organization whose purpose is bigger than just making and selling a product, you have my respect. And so it is with Malawi's Pizza. Here is what their website says, "For each meal purchased in one of our restaurants we donate a nutritious meal to a child in Malawi, Africa." AWESOME. Now, to the food. Malawi's pizza is just okay. I've tried four different kinds of pizza and the only one that I end up coming back for is the Malawi Capri pizza. It's actually a very good pizza. Also, the Berries and Cream dessert pizza is very good too. But to rate the restaurant from an overall food standpoint, it's a three star Yelp rating. But with a higher mission than to just sell pizzas, I'll give it a fourth star. Come out and support Malawi's and have a pizza. And let's be honest, pizza is pizza! read more

I really loved the overall concept of this place! I was very intrigued by the traditional African decor and music in the background. Even better every meal you purchase is contributed to a child in Malawi. The food itself was okay, I ordered a pasta dish, which was very filling. I wish there were more locations outside of Utah and Texas... come to the east coast! read more

I have only had their pizza when they were catering during an event, but it was good enough to make me want to visit this location. Every pizza I tried (and I had 6 different kinds, so much for my diet) was excellent. The thin crust was consistent and delicious, just the right amount of crisp and sweet. The cheeses and sauces they used sang in harmony in my mouth. The dessert pizzas were also great. The berries they used were really fresh and juicy, and the chocolate overload was deceptively rich. I was skeptical a very thin crust pizza could taste so chocolatey and rich but boy was I wrong. The whole experience with Malawi's pizza was a good one, with great tasting oven fired pizza, friendly caterers, and the fact that they support a good cause. read more
