I went to Malai Kitchen because I had $10 off through CityTins. To start - the ambiance is so gorgeous and welcoming. The tables are spacious, and they even offer a temperature regulated patio. Our server was wonderful, super attentive and diligent. The eggplant/sticky rice complimentary starter was great. I wasn't a huge fan of the actual food. The shishito peppers were just alright, they varied significantly in spice which felt like a gamble every bite. I ordered my go-to thai dish, red curry with tofu and veggies, and it was one of the worst I've had. Usually red curry is a little sweet with creaminess from the coconut milk, but this one was super herbaceous, salty, and unbalanced. Overall, I totally could have just ordered the wrong dishes, but I won't be returning. read more

An amazing meal from start to finish. Got to try so many flavors because we came during happy hour which is all day Saturday and Sunday, and the deals were great. The Saigon Spritz was so refreshing. Tried the Vietnamese meatballs, the seared ahi spring rolls, and the spicy edemame. All soooo good. For entrees we tried drunken noodles and pad se ewe, in addition to the kids buttered noodles which my son inhaled. Both similar flavors. Perfectly seasoned and every noodle and veg was perfectly cooked. I def would order the drunken noodles (added shrimp) over and over again. The beef was melt in your mouth and the shrimp was delicious. Finished off with the banana custard. The banana was brûlée'd and crispy, sooo good. It was a nicer resteraunt for sure. You can tell from the amazing staff interaction. They were all so patient and sweet with a toddler. Two last notes, at least half the menu was gluten free which was a DREAM. No shortage of GF or vegan options. Lastly, everything coming out of the kitchen was timed SO perfect. The apps and drinks were fast, the entrees came up just as apps wrapped up. Just great. We visited Malai Kitchen on a weekend evening as a small group and received excellent service. My team and I met there after work and the Malai Kitchen menu was able to accommodate everyone's dietary needs, spanning from gluten-free to pescetarian, and even vegetarian. The service we received was very attentive and the waitress was funny and very animated. The food tasted quite good, although the spice level could have been hotter. I was warned my fish curry was going to be spicy but it turns out it wasn't. Not a bit deal, really, but having known... Everyone seemed pleased with their order, we had no complaints! The mixed appetizer plate started our Thai food party. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The decor was nice and the lights not too bright. There was background music but not Asian style music. More like a mix of rock and roll over decades. When our food came out , it was delicious and plentiful. My Panang curry with beef tenderloin and vegetables was cooked very nicely. I ordered it with three stars and while it was a little spicy, I ended up sprinkling the house made sirachi sauce on it to bring it to the level that I liked. We waited more than 10 mins for our first drink, when the restaurant wasn't busy at all, and even longer for our second one. Disappointing! Last week met a niece from Denton for a birthday treat - they brought out the fun fresh carve coconut with rice pudding as a fun dessert for us - very unique again in flavors. I like we can order 'very spicy to no spice' - for some in group does not do heat in their dishes but we are the polar opposite with 4-5 for heat. Attentive service every visit with manager stopping by to check on our table every visit. Nice out door seating if Dallas weather permits; but also a fun bar area and indoor seating. We had great service for our large group. I really enjoyed the eggplant dip and sticky rice appetizers, but my pad woo sen was very delicious. My first experience not withstanding, every time I've been here the food is consistently delicious and well flavored, the service is exceptional and the staff friendly. Every person working there is always paying attention and addressing every service need. Whenever we have out of town guests, we can count on a great dinner experience here. Everyone was kind. The vibes were great. Beautiful indoor and (covered) outdoor spaces to sit including a chic modern bar. I got the Panang curry and subbed chicken and tofu for the beef and it was quite literally to die for. The combination of flavors was incredible. The ambiance is always nice and the service is top notch. The complimentary sticky rice and eggplant dip is interesting. The dip is a bit sour and cold.. not my favorite. I had the Thai eggs Benedict. This is probably the most unique eggs Benedict I've ever had. The coconut biscuits were flavorful and crumbly. The eggs were perfectly runny and the plump shrimp paired well with the Thai chili hollandaise. The dish had a slightly sweet flavor. Was not expecting the rambutan so that was a nice surprise. Overall, I think malai had interesting dishes and does Thai fusion well. If you're looking for authentic, I wouldn't come here. read more

I fine Thai establishment that's a step up from the mom and pop places, but not too fancy that you cant just pop in on on any occasion. I mostly ordered appetizers on this occasion, because we already had a pretty big breakfast that day, but knew getting an entrée would have meant leftovers. Drink wise, they have their own brewmaster, which a lot of places cant say they have. They have quite a variety of in house drinks, and the IPAs are especially top notch. The imperial rolls are just ok. Not as crispy as an egg roll, not as refreshing as a spring roll, and about as big as a finger. They had a sauteed veggie taste, but that's about it. The sauce that comes with it was quite liquidy and didn't really enhance the dish. The ahi tuna tartare is good, but what really makes this better is the in house made chips! These things are thick, full of oil flavor, and super crunchy! The crab dip was good, although it should be called crab curry dip. It had this deep, earthy taste with the crab still standing out. The shrimp chips are a nice touch, further enhancing the shellfish taste. The chicken satay is ok, especially since they don't seem like they are cooked on a charcoal pit. The peanut sauce was pretty good though. The tacos are a real treat! Super crispy, full of pulled pork, plenty of pickled veggies, and a decent amount of cream. I actually was hesitant of ordering this, since this isnt necessarily a thai dish, but its worth it. I look forward to trying more items here when Im in the area and in the mood. read more

Was in Dallas for the weekend and went here to celebrate a friend's Birthday. We had a large group of around 18 people and were somewhat accommodated although not very comfortably. Ambiance of the place is modern, relatively intimate but nothing too unique. I ordered the Panang curry with extra beef and I must say as a Thai fan and curry fan I was extremely underwhelmed. I ordered my curry with a 4/5 spice and tasted almost none. The overall curry flavor was lacking depth and unfortunately tasted quite bland. It did not scratch my curry craving but it must be said the portion was large and quite filling. My girlfriend ordered a noodle dish which I tried and it was far better so I suppose I just ordered the wrong thing. Service was fine considering the large party but despite this, our check took roughly 25 or more minutes, it may have been more. Even with a large group that is unacceptable. Really nothing too special about this chain and I hate to say but a bland curry is something I never thought I would experience but not I know it is possible. Maybe try other dishes from this place but wouldn't recommend what I ordered. I give three stars because of trying my girlfriends dish which was good, ambiance and portion/value for money was solid. read more

Right off the bat when being seated for a table the customer service was great. I made reservations and they were super considerate of where I sat, offering me multiple table options to pick from to enjoy dinner. Waiters were so prompt on checking in to get drinks and refills, offering recommendations and ensuring the food was great and even asking for feedback on some of their newer items. Booths were comfy and the restaurant noise was perfect to have a private conversation and hear each other without hearing what the table next to you is talking about. Food was well seasoned and tasty, great prices, and I enjoyed the different style of beers they offered as well as the free samples to make a decision on one. By the end of dinner I can say for sure that they have *the best* staff that really take care of you. read more

I had high expectations of this place with 4.5 stars. When we walked in it was busy and clean with nice decor. Our service was slow, and it was after 1 so not really a lunch rush. As we were near the kitchen i saw our server standing there on his cell phone a couple times. So you know, great service. They brought out a complimentary rice appetizer that i thought was interesting, although its one rice patty and there were two of us...seeing as its just rice doesn't seem like it should be a big deal to give one per person. The dipping sauce was interesting and I was glad to try something new. We werent super hungry, but my mom and i shared a chicken satay and the lunch special of the day, tiger noodles. The satay was good- the peanut sauce was just ok. It came with a second sauce that was really bitter and i did not like it at all. Per the menu, its a chili shallot relish. The tiger noodles are wok seared vermicelli noodles with beef tenderloin in turmeric-ginger sauce. The beef pieces tasted really good but the noodles were bland. Didn't taste ginger at all. I love thai and vietnamese food and have had a bunch and i was really disappointed. We asked for a side of limes which brightened up the noodles but it still wasnt quite enough. Could have had more ginger, garlic, scallions, fish sauce, i think sweet chili garlic sauce would have improved the flavor...but yeah. I hate to judge a place on just one or two dishes but with all the restaurants in dallas a meal like that doesnt make me want to give it another shot. read more

Eric R. and I were looking for a late dinner and he found Malai kitchen. We recognized the location from other restaurants in the past, but this was our first time at Malai, and we were so glad it was here. Since it was less than an hour before closing, the restaurant was not too crowded. The staff was very kind and answered all of our questions. Everything sounded good. We learned that this is a microbrewery and the beer is brewed in the Southlake location. Eric R. got the octoberfest on special, and I ordered a flight of three beers: the peach iced tea wheat, the Bia Hoi (rice and pilsner mat), and Thai PA (brewed with lemongrass, ginger, galangal, kaffir lime, cilantro, turmeric, coriander and five different American hops) which was surprisingly my favorite (and maybe the only IPA I have ever liked?!) We were given sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves with a roasted pepper eggplant dipping sauce as an amuse bouche! We got the tuna tartare to start. Eric R. ordered the jungle curry (which surprised me since panang is his go-to) and I ordered the lemongrass mussels. Everything was delicious and we took home the last of the broth from each of ours combined and made a new soup out of it the next day. The service is very good here. Our waitress, Kaylee, was very kind and knowledgeable. I think the dishes were an interesting approach to Thai food but not my favorite. The green curry had a great presentation but the balance between the spicy and sweet of the curry was not there. I've also had the drunken noodles here and I think they are solid but not what I'm looking for in drunken noodles. Their specialty appetizer calamari was really good. What a great experience! My husband and I were invited by an older couple from our church, one of whom is in a walker and a little hard of hearing. Everyone was so kind and accommodating right off the bat, which I really appreciated. Then there was our waiter. He ROCKED. When we told him it was our first time there, he jokingly sat down to give us the what-for about what to expect. It was a thorough explanation and he was clearly knowledgeable about the menu. He was also patient as we figured out what we were ordering. Service alone is worth five stars. But then there was the food. The food! Everything we ate was superb. I unfortunately photographed nothing but the dessert, therefore my memory isn't serving me well, but I know I had the drunken noodles and loved them. We also got an appetizer sampler that was great for the table. Let me just mention the desserts: I love coconut, but coconut cream pie has never really appealed to me. But we were with dessert enthusiasts who also like coconut, so we went with the Mango Sticky Rice Smash and Coconut Crème Pie. DEAR LORD IN HEAVEN - the coconut crème pie is honestly the best dessert I've had all year. Presentation for the sticky rice was more impressive, but taste-wise: pie. All the pie.
