My friends and I came here because we wanted something soupy and filling. This is a place where you can build your own hot pot and they charge by the weight. The staff: The staff here is friendly and welcoming. Ambience: This place is average for the noise level. The tables, counters, and chairs were all clean with no trash or debris visible to the eye. My friends and I each got different soup bases. The tomato soup base was flavorful and is my favorite. My brother got the spicy soup base, and he said it was delicious. My other friend chose the beef bone broth, and he said he would definitely come back again for this soup base. Overall: This place has delicious food with their soup bases. The only issue with this place is that there are not enough parking spaces outside.

I tried Mala town and it was different, you go to a restaurant and basically there is not a menu, you just have to choose and pick the main ingredients and quantity, at the end you pick the base broth from the screen behind the cashier and pay for the quantity just picked; When the food is cooked and ready the waitress brough me the dish, in this traditional pot and it was good; It is a very cool place to try, the flavor was very good, the ambience is cozy and you don't have much interactions with the staff, I guess it is a great place for introvert people to enjoy a good meal; I am going to be back soon

I've heard a lot of hype regarding Malatown but never had the chance to go. My friend and I planned a dinner date for Wednesday at 5:30 PM. Thank god we came at the time we did because it was packed by the time it hit 5:45 PM. You grab a bowl and some tongs. It's buffet style in the sense that its like an assembly line or veggies, meats, and starch. You pick what you want and put it into the bowl and then you pick out your broth. I picked out sukiyaki and got an array of things. Spinach, mushrooms, wagyu beef, shitake mushrooms, fish balls, udon noodles, and probably much more haha. I had a little over 2 lbs of food in my bowl, they charge $16.99/lb. After tax, tip, and fees my meal came out to a little over $40. It is a great concept but is very expensive. I'd rather go somewhere ayce for that price.

I am back here for the third times, but is very disappointed that the selections were reduced dramatically. They don't serve Tong-how, my favorite beginning for hot pot. No lamb in the meat selection. Not coming back here any more.

I really enjoyed my meal at Mala Town! The concept is super fun and the ingredient bar is incredibly fresh with tons of great options for veggies, noodles, and tofu. The broth was rich, flavorful, and hit the spot. I wish they had a bit more variety when it came to the actual meat options. That being said, the overall food quality was really good and I'd definitely come back when craving a solid hotpot bowl!

Finally got a chance to try Mala Town's dry pot! The interior was clean and easy to navigate, with an option to choose your toppings as you make your way to the register. Upon checkout, they measure based on weight and allow you to pick your prep of choice (tom yun, tomato broth, spicy beef, or dry pot). Delicious!!! And so glad it is vegetarian friendly!

Great concept and delish ramen! I love to create my own meals so this is perfect for me. I was able to go heavy on the things I like making the perfect bowl. I went with Sichuan the first time and I regretted it. It was FIRE and I wasn't strong enough to handle it. I ended up getting medium spice the next time and it was perfect. I drive an hour to eat here and I never regret it.

I came back to Mala Town to try the spicy mix with peanut sauce, but I wasn't really into it. I like spicy food, but I definitely prefer the beef bone broth base. The flavor and spice just didn't hit for me this time. As always, the staff are super friendly and the place is always clean, and I'd still love to try some of their other bases next time I visit.

The concept for this restaurant is unique and awesome. You walk in and grab a bowl, put in whatever ingredients you want in your soup then they will weigh it, you select the broth and you pay .. I had the sichuan base and it was soooo flavorful and spicy. I did add some extra soy sauce, garlic and oyster sauce. It was phenomenal. I'd go back for sure.

I go to this place a lot since they opened! Super good malatang and I'm so glad there is finally a place in Edison. This place is a pay your weight (at the moment is 15.99$ a pound) where you pick everything up from a buffet style area and then they cook it in the soup you like. I'm obSESSED with the Szechuan soup base. It's an extremely spicy soup base but it just hits differently!!! I tried the spicy stock soup base but it doesn't hit the right spots like the Szechuan one does. The selection is super big as welll! They have all the goodies that most places don't have like hotpot noodles, quail eggs, haidai miao (sometimes :(( ), and more! The service is always good and the place is cute. There is a self serve bar with sauces and drinks. The tea definitely helps a lot with spice, so if you don't want your nose running the whole time I recommend drinking copious amounts of the tea. I parking though is horrible. There is very little parking which I think is sad since on Saturdays and Fridays or just at night in general this place get pretty packed.

I love hot pot and couldn't wait to try this restaurant! When I arrived I parked in the lot. The place was packed when I walked in. Helen helped me, and I had a tad wait. When a seat was available, I got my bowl and put in the items I wanted: Scallops Shrimp Spinach Corn Egg ramen chicken Rose blossom lemonade I weighed the items, and the broth I added was beef broth medium spice. They cooked it in the back. It came out in about 15 minutes. I tried the food and it was very good but super spicy. The drink took a while to come out, which was the only real issue. I also had the tirimisu, and that was frozen, but when it thawed out a bit, it was good! All in all I had a good experience!

Love this HotPot and the whole concept. The place is clean and the hot pot self service ingredients section has quite a wide variety of selections. We have been here a few times and have gotten the different combination of sauces and have always enjoyed the bold flavors. Staff is great and I wish they open up a location in Morris county.

Love this place so much!! It's a bit off the beaten path, past the H Mart complex. Drove past it a few times and finally decided to stop in. I am so glad we did because this place is really really good. You pick whatever ingredients you want, and there are so many options, protein, seafood, veggies, tofu, noodles, etc! Then you can pick the broth or do the dry pot for the ingredients to be cooked in. Take a seat and they will bring you the food in less than 5 minutes (seriously, how do they make it so fast!!??) I personally love the dry pot and the chicken broth. Also, the free iced tea is absolutely delicious, and perfect to offset the spices. My new favorite place and can't wait to come back soon!

Service was nice as they will help you with the ordering. Some of the staff could speak cantonese there which was nice rather than just Mandarin and English. Although it is expensive for hotpot, you get your money's worth with the variety of seafood you can select. You get 2 soup flavors. There were seafood options you don't normally find like mantis shrimp, conch, abalone, small sweet shrimp, razor clams, crab, etc. They also had sashimi, bbq skewers and other hot foods in addition to the hotpot. They also give you a complementary lobster or sea cucumber per table. They had a good variety of drinks to choose from. Another unique offering is they provide durian for dessert. If you pay in cash at the end, they give you free milk and fruit tea drinks per person to go. The drinks are from LaanKee. They don't have any discounts like birthday or senior. A nice feature here when ordering is that they let you choose between 2 portions: more or less. The best strategy is to get everything in the first round with a 'less' portion so you can try out all the different foods available and then order more of what you want later on. This also helps prevent wasting food which they charge by pound if there is alot. Definitely recommend checking out this place at least once to experience it. This place is perfect for all the seafood and durian lovers out there.

Because it was so uniquely good and I made it a mission to bookmark this in my mental food archives. For anyone who has eaten hot pot many times from all restaurants available throughout NYC, you typically dip and cook your foods in a broth and focus on eating just the cooked foods. Here is a different story, you enjoy drinking the broth altogether with your food. Lots of things I found fascinating was each table had a chicken timer on top for the staff to see when the golden broth was at each table, to ensure it sustained well and not foamed up and wasted. This broth was so mindblowingly good that I did not even needed to go to the dipping sauces station for my meal. If I had to describe the taste without degrading the broth, think of it as an elevated chicken egg soup but 10x's better. As the flavor does justice because it's brewed for 10 hours with care and pride. The staff did a good job and our server made sure when we added the food for cooking, they instructed how long to cook each item: Wagyu beef, abalone, greens and noodles to not soil the broth's flavor. This place was easy to get a table for 2 on a Saturday night, maybe because on a flood watch day. Very comfortable seating and even the drinkware and dish equipment were top notch to enhance our experience. Important factor too with hot pot dining, there's no aftermath hot pot odors stuck on your clothes as this broth did none of the sort. I've never had this type of hotpot before and anything new that leaves a memorable experience for me, makes me want to food research further, like how this type of broth idea started. A good option for those not wanting to do AYCE for hot pot and pay a reasonable cost. One of the meals I will have dreams of and remember for a long time.

You can order additional items à la carte to add to your broth. We ordered king oyster mushrooms, enoki mushrooms and the shiitake mushrooms pulled with shrimp paste. They also have a sauce bar for any of the food you cook in the broth, but the broth was so amazing and delicious we didn't even visit the sauce bar during our dinner. The place is a decent size. Lots of tables of various sizes. There are tables various sizes around. This hot pot place the tables have only one burner, so if you have multiple people, you will need to agree on the broth that works for all. In addition to the hot pot broths and à la carte ingredients you can add to the broth, they also have appetizers, rice and noodles. Our server was so sweet. She walked us through the menu and made sure to grab a kids tray for my daughter to use to eat her food. She came by often to check if we needed anything extra. She also gave us a container to pack our leftovers and broth to take home. We all were super happy with our meal and service.
