First of all, the parking at this popular Asian mall in Edison was horrendous; you need to be mentally prepared, lest you get riled up and ruin your mood for a good meal. I remember this hot pot place from a long time ago when it was called Little Sheep. It was supposedly regrouped and rebranded as Happy Lamb in 2017. It is a bit old-fashioned in that instead of an individual hot pot for each seat, it offers one stove per table and up to two different broths for the pot. Also, aside from the proteins which you need to order through the wait staff, we get to grab the rest of the side ingredients ourselves, unlike at more modern hot pot places which must be explicitly ordered. In this way, I can take just one piece of calamari and one slice of winter melon, grab more if I like it without troubling anyone, just like at a regular AYCE buffet. Another plus is that it's finally possible to track your own items!!! The thinly sliced meats are always nice. The mala beef was really spicy, even after swishing it in the broth a few times. The giant prawns were the star of the pot--so sweet and tasty--until I realized none were deveined, at which point I stopped eating them. The beverages (e.g. plum) and dessert soups (coconut sago and white wood ear), while sounded tempting, were all disappointing. They were poorly rendered and over-diluted. Service was on point. I love to visit this restaurant when I am craving hot pot! I catch the lunch special which is $24.99/pp at specific hours and includes unlimited meats, drinks, and access to "buffet" which has a bunch of additions like noodles, veggies, and sauces for your broth. If someone isn't feeling soup, the buffet does have fried veggie spring rolls and shrimp fried rice. There are also more broths available in this area. Service is quick and staff is always around for questions or help. The restaurant is very clean and everything always tastes fresh. Give it a try! read more

I have been coming here for over a decade. They are also consistent. Service here is always efficient. There has been some recent changes with the buffet style self serve hotpot. Now there is buffet style for you to pick out your own veg, tofu, and shrimps. Self serve drinks dessert etc. They still take your order for meat and bring it to the table. We did the VIP hot pot which was 10 dollars extra and to be honest not worth the extra nothing to complain about but there isn't much extra you get, the regular menu has everything needed. My fave broth is mushroom and tomato, you can split your hot pot for different flavors. The lamb served here is always the best lamb ever. There are so many veg choices. My party of 4 visited on a Friday around 6:30pm and was seated promptly. The restaurant filled out throughout the evening. We opted for the regular ayce option for $31.99 per person. There was a number of meats to order from the waiter and you could get vegetables, mushroom, fishballs, noodles and other items yourself from the buffet area. There is also sauce bar and some cooked food to choose some. Soft drinks are also included in the ayce price. The meats came out relatively quick and wait staff were friendly. Went to happy lamb because it was one of the few places that lets you put in the ingredients yourself into your own hotpot. Unfortunately the quality of the food was just so terribly bad. I am sorry but for 38 dollars a person for it to be a buffet style with no service is a little disrespectful. It has the quality of a chinese buffet as well, the meat was terrible quality. Honestly the only way I could tell the difference between the wagyu, the ox tongue, the lamb, and the beef was by appearance. In terms of taste they were all exactly the same. The place really gave the vibe that it was a chinese buffet for 38 dollars a person. I really do not recommend this place, I am very shocked it received four stars. Between the entire hotpot we ate (all the greens, mushrooms, meats and seafood) we ate one of their chicken wings, which was really good. So I guess there is a silver lining. I really hope they up the quality of their food, and try to avoid treating customers like livestock to get their buffet veggies (with no visible proper way to disinfect grabbing utensils, so you dont know if someone used one for raw seafood) and instead went for a more refined experience. read more

BYOB which was great. No cotton candy machine but they had a variety of seafood options, mushrooms, pickled pig ears/wood ear mushrooms, organ meats, vegetables all were fresh and were readily restocked. They also had some dessert soups off to the side including sago and red bean. Despite the restaurant being full our waiter was easy to get a hold of if needed but we didn't really need it since the portion sizes of the meat brought out was perfect. The spicy wasn't even spicy and it was very mid. No umami at all - Selection of meats / veggies were fine? Pretty average selection, nothing too special. Their fish balls are absolutely atrocious. My friend described it as "is this sh*t in the middle". Do not get that. - Also, there were so many flies? gnats?? around the produce EWWWW. So... I really enjoyed this place the first time I came. The second time, me and my boyfriend got food poisoning. I wasn't going to post a bad review, but I saw other people had the same issue just as recently as we did. I recall when I was there, some of the vegetables and greens looked unwashed. There was a clump of dirt sitting at the front of the tray of greens, so I didn't eat them but I still got sick. I really hope this place improves to be more sanitary. Been here probably 5 times and every time, its been a banger. Love the BYOB and the selection will not disappoint. Great for large groups or two people. Great with kids or no kids. My kids love this place. The AYCE was well worth and every time I come I have not been disappointed. They have a large selection of drinks and premier stuff in the back. They are very attentive that the pick and clean up your table with dishes. While it's still all-you-can-eat, the experience is very different now. However, the restaurant is now largely self-service. Other than the cuts of meat, everything else--noodles, vegetables, seafood, and sides--needs to be picked up from the buffet line. While I appreciate being able to choose exactly what I want, I miss the convenience of having everything brought to the table. Overall, I found the experience underwhelming. The selection, quality, and pricing at KPot down the road are significantly better in my opinion. I had previously visited Happy Lamb with my family, and our first experience was so BAD!!! We all ended up with stomach aches and food poisoning right after eating. The buffet station was a complete mess, and the ingredients were sitting out at the wrong temperatures. AND they were looking like they had been picked over for hours. The meat was mediocre at best, and the soup was so off-putting.. I've been to many hotpot places, but this place was the only one I'd never drink the broth at. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and went back today with my boyfriend, hoping maybe we had just caught them on a bad day. Somehow, it was even WORSE!!!! We ordered the half-and-half broth (the spicy and mushroom) and both sides were AWFUL. The mushroom broth was so bland, tasting like watered-down dishwater, while the spicy broth was unpleasant, with a strange aftertaste that made us genuinely question whether it was safe to eat. Just one bite of meat from the spicy side nearly made me spit it out. It tasted old and poorly stored. The udon noodles from the buffet station were literally crumbling apart like they'd been sitting there all day. The buffet ingredients looked unkept and disorganized, with no sense of freshness or care. The smell of the restaurant itself was horrid, which only made the experience worse. Being in there did not feel real.. the servers didn't even check up on us once. We didn't even last 20-30 minutes before asking for the check. I truly wanted to give this place a second chance, but after two consistently awful experiences, I can confidently say I will never be returning. Please save yourself from this place!!! Came here for AYCE on a weekday lunch, where for just over $20, you can get a tasty hot pot meal. The $20 tier does come with regular lamb. There is a higher tier with higher quality meats, but it didn't seem to be to be worth the price differential (at least at lunch, as this tier does not have a lunch discount). I found the meat quality to be really good for AYCE. The pieces were not too fatty. The other good thing about the meat is that if you ask for larger servings, they actually give this to you (other places often just give a standard serving). I also appreciated that the non meat items were self service, so this way it was easy to get items without having to wait for a waiter to come take an order and then deliver. I've come here a few times to eat. The place has a nice selection of vegetables, noodles and other such foods to choose from. This Happy Lamb establishment has a bit of a different format. This place is essentially an all-you-can-eat hot pot buffet, where you get the items yourself from a designated bar area. There's 3 tiers that you can choose from: 1) the value, which is basically anything from the buffet bar selection, then 2) the house special, which includes various meats like lamb, and 3) premium, which comes with even more VIP items, free soft drink and dessert. My family and I got the original bone broth soup for the hot pot. We chose the house special option too. Pretty good! I will say, this place gets crowded a lot sometimes, especially on Friday and the weekends. I'd recommend coming during lunch on a weekday Monday through Wednesday or Thursday if possible, just to avoid more crowds and waiting times. read more

We came here after going to two restaurants with extremely long wait times and were happy it was only a 5-10-minute wait. For dinner you can choose the standard or the premium option for higher quality meats/seafood. They were doing a special where the premium was $36/$37 instead of $40 so we opted for that option. Once we ordered our special items the other food choices were displayed buffet style. The quality of food was pretty good everything was fresh. They ran out of 2 broth options and the music was a bit too loud. But I did like the variety of options they had, and the unique drink options included in the premium option. I've always enjoyed the house special, which includes fatty beef and lamb, among others! It's about $33 per person on weekends, so about standard as other AYCE spots. What makes Little Lamb special is the broth!! It is consistently the most flavorful hotpot broth I've tried, and there is usually no need for other dipping sauces. I think there's also a great selection of vegetables, seafood, and other meats in the buffet set up as well. The service for ordering meat is efficient and friendly. I love that they have a buffet style for all ingredients - it's not that common, most places for AYCE hotpot you order from a menu so they bring things out in set portions. Sometimes you just want to try a little something and now with buffet style you can portion it yourself, or if you LOVE an ingredient you can just load up on it without any shame. Pricing is very decent, there are different tiers if you want more premium ingredients or not. I'm sad we didn't come try this out until living in the area for over a year, but we'll definitely be back! Staff is nice and accommodating, I really have no complaints. The buffet needed to be refilled but they had difficulty keeping up. I don't think the shrimp was ever filled. The sauce bar was pathetic. The hot pot bbq was all oil, same with the sesame sauce.
