The hostess was not very welcoming or seemed happy to be at work. Our server was slow and had a rude moment. There were some staff members that were smiling and welcoming. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice. It was well decorated and looked like a nice place to have a nicer meal or spend time with others. It is very loud inside and we had trouble hearing each other. The chairs at our table had food on them. The food portions were large and we liked most of the things that were ordered. Highly disappointed. We came in for drinks. We sat at a table, and we had to ask someone if we go to the bar or someone comes over to give drinks. The waiter comes over, who barely cracked a smile and just stood there waiting for our drink order (this place was not slammed so not sure why he was having an attitude). I stumbled upon Makers Union while searching for a dinner spot with available seating, and I'm so glad I did. The staff greeted my party warmly, and we were seated promptly. Makers Union offers an extensive menu, including a great selection of drinks from the bar. We started with the Nachos as an appetizer (not pictured), and the portion was generous enough to satisfy our group of five. The prices are reasonable across the board for both appetizers and entrées. I ordered the Makers Flatiron Steak with Fries, and I was especially impressed by the broccolini it came with--perfectly seasoned and a great complement to the meal. My friends ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich, Lamb Chop, and Alfredo Pasta, and they all enjoyed their dishes as well! The ingredients were fresh, and the meats were cooked to perfection. We came to Makers Union early Sunday afternoon for a brunch. Upon my entry, multiple staff members stopped to ensure that I was assisted, which I greatly appreciated. Shortly after our table was prepared, we were quickly seated. Our waiter was warm, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. He also was very patient as half of our party altered our orders when he was half way through taking the table's order. Our food came out fairly quickly. The portion sizes were big, in my opinion. I had the burger definitely which hit the spot taste wise. I also sampled the brussel sprouts which were flavored very well. Parking is abundantly available, which includes both street parking and garage parking (which is free on the weekends). Overall, really good experience. read more

Makers Union is definitely becoming my go to spot in Reston Town Center. I recently tried them for dinner and I really enjoyed it. I had been before for brunch and when they were done up for Christmas. Really anytime you visit you will have a great time. For this last visit, I had the painful punch sangria, it tasted like Christmas with the cinnamon and allspice, I would get it again. For an appetizer, we got the spinach and artichoke dip. It was really good, I just wish it had more chips served with it. For the entree I got the chicken piccata. The serving size was huge, so I was able to have some for lunch the next day. The chicken was flavored really well and it had a lot capers, which I love. The service was speedy, we didn't have to wait too long for food. Starting with the positives, the plates were pretty and the chairs were comfy. Unfortunately, the rest is negative: We were seated and it took 20 minutes for someone to come over and say hi. It took another 10 for them to fill our waters. Our coffee and first round of drinks didn't come until 45 minutes after we were seated. The restaurant was not busy with staff standing everywhere... Our iced coffees arrived as hot coffees with the milk already mixed in, which is usually brought on the side. Since it took so long to come, we decided not to say anything. The coffee was $6 a cup, which was ridiculous, especially because it was incredibly mediocre and took 45 minutes to come. The $32 "unlimited" brunch is not unlimited at all. It is extremely complicated for no reasons. Of the hundreds of bottomless brunches in the area, this is the only one I have seen that works this way. Your table (whether you have 1 person or 8) chooses 3 entrees and 3 starters. They bring out a portion they say reflects the size of your table, and that is it. Not refilled aka not unlimited. Everyone has to agree on the exact order and egg cooking style, which was basically impossible for our large group. Some of us split off and did a la carte for this reason. The beach themed decor looked like cheap decorations from Amazon or Oriental Trading and was falling apart. The poached eggs were aggressively over cooked. The yolk was hard and crumbly. The tortilla chips were paper thin, like something you'd get with nachos at a stadium. Looking for a brunch spot and this one seemed like a great place to be considering how many people were there in the morning! We decided on the unlimited Mimosas and I tried every Mimosa flavor! I'd say the berry flavors were considerably the best ones. For an appetizer we got the spinach and artichoke dip. It was great on a cold day outside which we opted for outdoor seats next to the heaters. The portion size was huge so definitely recommend. I opted for the makers scramble and it was a lot bigger than I expected! It had an array of breakfast potatoes as well as loaded eggs with some many different mixings within it. My girlfriend and I have been here a few times for brunch. We've even come here for brunch with some friends and the brunch deal is good but sometimes wish the food was a little more varied. The mimosas are nice and great if you're looking to drink for a good deal. The food can be ordered a la carte or bottomless as well. The bottomless food is good and I really like the scotch eggs. But many things are forgettable even now as I write my review. The French toast was really good off of the a la carte menu. I think the service here is usually just good. Nothing has ever made me say "Wow!" here. But we typically get food and drinks in a reasonable amount of time and the servers are always nice. The ambiance here is upscale casual. It's definitely somewhere you can dress casually but still feel like you're in a more upscale feeling place. That's Reston Town Center for you. It's usually best to park in the parking garages as street parking is super limited. Give it a shot and see if it's for you. Eli was extremely polite, professional, and attentive. He was quick with our orders, getting our drinks and food out, and checking in the perfect amount. The 1-year old in our party loved his tattoos, and Eli was very sweet with him. He was also extremely accommodating to getting us seated in a spot that fit the wheelchair and a height chair. I will say on paper the menu looks really delicious, and it's a lot to choose from, the only thing I think I didn't care for was that with the unlimited brunch, you aren't able to choose various items from the menu when you want a refill on food, you have to get a refill on the foods you ordered only. Service was cool, our waitress was very busy and it was a lot happening. The inside was really nice, but we sat outside since the weather was very nice. The downside to sitting outside is that there were quite a few bees everywhere lol also, I didn't know people could bring their dogs to eat with them on the outside patio, so that through me off as well. So if allergic, eat inside! What an experience! We both had the ribeye steak with green beans and outstanding parmesan french fries. The steaks were cooked to perfection, portion was huge (14 oz), enough for another meal. Not your average American Fare! The first time we went here, I was a little skeptical, but they really do have some flare with their traditional "pub-esque" menu. I will go on and on about the food, which is well-prepared and DELISH, but Maker's Union does have a nice vibe, decent size patio in the front and very attentive staff as well. They have some decently crafted cocktails, refreshing, not overly sweet, though I wouldn't say this THE place for cocktails or anything. Their beer list is also on the smaller side, though it is local and craft focused. Now enough about that... onto the important stuff... I honestly need to try the nachos - I am not sure why I haven't. Every time we come they pass by me, this mountain of melty, meaty pile of goodness, enroute to somewhere else and I secretly wish they would drop them off at my table by mistake... Somebody try them please and report back :) Our go to though for appetizers are the New Zealand Lamb Lollipops - the sauce and tabbouleh pair perfectly and there is not even a hint of gaminess to them -- just truly delicious every time -- and the brussels sprouts, because everyone needs a little vegetable in their life! Also - these aren't your average blue cheese and bacon variety you can get just about anywhere, so if you like a good fried brussels sprout I highly recommend this combo that hits all the right notes - a little sweet, a little heat and a whole lot of spice! I always go for the bowls for my meal and I have to say the Poke Bowl is THE.BEST! Just a wonderful combo of fish, vegetables, sauce and rice. The food was well prepared and had clean plating, I got the chicken & waffles and it was beyond expectation. For the $27 price point it was well worth it, coming in with 4 pieces of fluffy waffles and 4 pieces of lightly breaded fried chicken. Properly seasoned and the sweetness from the syrup and honey butter was a phenomenal combination. The service was spectacular, our Server Reef was diligent and mindful of everyone's needs be it allergies or preferences to beverages.
