Stopped here on a whim in between a wedding ceremony and reception, and I'm so glad we did! We were able to sit at the bar and talk with the bartender since it was in between the lunch and dinner crowds. He was very knowledgeable on all of their drinks and menu items, and he gave us some tips about our next visit (which will definitely happen soon!) They don't take reservations, but you can call ahead and put your name on the list so you won't have to wait 2+ hours. They also are starting whiskey classes once a month which sound fun! We tried the Old Fashioned which was fantastic. We also had the House Board- loved everything they put on it, especially their pork pate, and the Duck Poutine- sooo delicious. Outdoor patio is shaded. Foot traffic minimal. The food was so good. Started with side salad with rosemary garlic dressing. Radishes cucumber corn adorned the greens for the perfect combination of summer flavors. Mac and cheese was so delicious and the deep bowl kept it warm right to the last bite. Burger was cooked just right and was tasty. But the real surprise was the creamy ice cream sundae with both Carmel and chocolate syrups. One of my top five for best ice cream. I've been wanting to check this place out for a while now and finally was glad to visit last night! We called ahead, but when we arrived, there was no wait anyways for a table of 2 (pretty nice for Friday night at 9pm!). The ambiance was nice, definitely a fan of the lights inside. For the food, we ordered the brie curds, duck poutine, lamb chops and house board. Everything was delicious! The house board contained some great meats and cheeses, along with candied nuts and honey. The taleggio cheese was our fave! The duck poutine was very dry for a poutine but when you give me cheese, potatoes and meats together, I can't help but eat it all. Fried brie was also very good and complemented the sweet sauce perfectly. Finally, the moroccan spice rubbed lambs were done phenomenally. The salad, onions and the seasoning went very well together! I was very happy with the food, but not too happy with my Ginger Please drink. It was overly sour and didn't taste like well-balanced cocktail I was hoping for. My BF's sazerac was great though! Stumbled upon this place while walking thru Glen Ellen during a business trip. Loved the vibe of this place- tall ceilings & lots of space between tables. It was Wednesday night but by 6pm all the tables and the bar were filled. The cauliflower tatertots were fried just perfectly. The shrimp and grits were full of flavor and the shrimp was big & juicy. The poutine had a wonderful deep Smokey flavor that lingered and gave the fries so much added depth. Unlike some restaurants that claim small shareable plates, these small plates were rather generous making it easy and fun to share with friends. The atmosphere inside was perfect and just felt natural, another upside to the decor is that it definitely fit the style of food they serve. Glen Ellyn has become a real restaurant town, and Maize and Mash is one of my top favorites. The maize salad and chopped salad are both phenomenal, as are almost all the appetizers. First time in the place and my first impression is it is not really big and spacious but the ambiance and the atmosphere is nice and the interior was really lovely. Since it is not a small place there are only few tables inside and seats on the bar counter. I was glad I was able to seat inside for better atmosphere and they also have outdoor seating. I was alone and the staff was really nice and friendly who checked if everything is okay. I only ordered the house burger which is served with fries. I wanted to try their poutine but I would not able to finish all the food so I just did not order it and also the burger has a nice portion and its prices s reasonable. The burger is cheesy, juicy and it was really good. I like it so much. The fries are good too and the cocktail is phenomenal. This is definitely a great spot to dine in with friends and family. What a find! In Chicago for business and found this gem via Yelp. First, Main Street in Glen Ellyn is adorable. The restaurant was packed on a Wednesday night and we got a table in about 30 minutes. We shared the Scotch Eggs appetizer. We both thought the appetizer was very good but our highlight was the Southern. Large chicken sandwich with honey, bacon, Gouda, and a fried egg. Sooooo good. As much as I loved the sandwich I can't leave out the fries. I wanted to focus on my sandwich but I kept going back to the fries. During our meal, the fire alarm went off and we were going to have to evacuate and the staff did a great job "rounding" on customers. The fire department showed up and gave an all clear. The staff continued to apologize for the mishap. I was only worried about leaving my sandwich behind! read more

The space is lovely, all dark wood with beautiful light fixtures. Also, apparently, there's a private room up the stairs that has comfortable seats. The place was packed when we arrived, but it was well worth the 20 minute wait. The food is classic American comfort food with an added zest. The southern fried chicken sandwich was perfect. The cauliflower tots will change your life. Our small group made it through a good amount of the menu, and it was all amazing! Brie curds, wild mushroom pasta, Mac n cheese, French fries, scallops, lamb chops, a vegetarian version of the croque madam, the turkey sandwich, and the beignets (without the marshmallow filling). On to the drinks, equally great! SAZERAC was a smooth balance of rye whiskey and the black licorice of the absinthe. SACRED SAGE was still all about the bourbon, not too fruity. COFFEE TIME was a great warm drink to end the night, if you don't want to get a dessert( we just got both!). Service was great! They were slammed when we got in, but Maggie was still keeping up at the bar. We got a table and the other servers were great as well. Food allergies were checked, acknowledged, and discussed. Light, flavorful, served at right temperature. I have eaten here now dozens of times and it is always great. The staff is super friendly and we have always had a great meal. I have had several different dishes but my husband always gets the Southern and we have to get the cauliflower tots for a starter. I have been here for both personal and business lunch/dinner. You can easily hang out for a leisurely meal or quickly get in and out. Sometimes we have had a wait usually on a weekend night right at prime time for dinner but most of the time we are seated immediately. Their upstairs area is a nice alternative if they are really full we had to eat in the lounge area upstairs one time but not a big deal. One thing I wish was they were a bit more kid friendly as almost all tables are high top but that is probably by design to be more of an adults only night out. read more

If I could leave my review as zero stars, I would. I brought my grandson in for math tutoring but it turned out to be a restaurant and bar. Why do they have to have a plus sign in their name? It was very confusing. We did have a bite to eat since we were there and it turned out to be a great restaurant. We ate here on three occasions. It is more a drop in have a drink and an appetizer type of place. I was just ok with my dinner. We sat upstairs and it was freezing, the air conditioning was way too much. The downstairs bar scene is fun for having drinks with friends. I've been here a few times since they opened, and feel the same each time...it's a fun atmosphere: lively, well-lit, well-designed, etc. Cauliflower tots are great, as is the Maize salad. Drinks are good. But seating is super limited: only 12 or so tables. And, we've had a few items that were egregiously too small, like the $15 shrimp and grits. I've enjoyed my time here but on my last visit left hungry...which you shouldn't feel when you spend $100 for two people. It'd be nice to see them tweak the seating, allowing for more two-tops instead of so many four-tops, or adding more public seating upstairs. read more
