I've been a long time fan of Maison Premiere's amazing cocktail program. And when they started doing oyster happy hour I was even more thrilled. However, since my job was nowhere near Williamsburg I never got the chance. Recently though, I had a friend visiting town and I got myself an early day and met up with him for a Williamsburg outing. When I told him about oyster happy hour he was game and we made it just in time before a wait for a table formed. And after this visit, yes, hands down the best oyster happy hour in NY! Most oyster happy hour programs in NY only offer Blue point oysters and they aren't really that great in my opinion. Maison Premiere's oyster happy hour offer everything on the menu for $1 or $1.25 at the most. That is amazing! Especially when the selection and quality of their oysters allows them to price it at $3 and more during regular hours. So if you're an oyster fan who also finds $3 a piece oysters ridiculous this is your place! My friend and I tasted practically everything on the oyster menu except for Blue point and ones that he was very familiar with in Canada. On top of this amazing deal you get to have it along side incredible cocktails. Their mixologists are fantastic and watching them work is like watching an elaborate show. My friend enjoyed this as much as he enjoyed his drink. They have plenty more to offer in their food menu and I'd love to go back for dinner. In the meantime I can now say that Maison Premiere and Upstate are my two favorite oyster bars in NY. read more

Sorely and bitterly disappointed in this over-rated, pretentious fake French restaurant. The menu is illegible in the dim, "romantic" lighting, probably a blessing as the monstrous wine list is over-priced and our selection required a run to the liquor store. The Maison Plateau was forgettable with dry lobster, average oysters...much effort was made to fluff it up so it doesn't look like three tiers of ice. Their $1 oyster happy hour is one of my favorite things in this city. M-F 4-7PM, you can sit at the bar and get an ever-changing list of 20-25ish different oysters that are all $1 each. Though seriously, happy hour in NYC needs to be pushed back an hour or two because who really gets off before 6 or 7? The bar seating is limited, I'd say about 20-25 available and it fills up fast. It's very hard to find a seat as it is a free for all so it'd be harder to get a seat at 6:30. The cocktails are great and the unique thing about Maison Premiere is that it is known for serving absinthe, slow drip or in cocktails. The licorice flavor can be off-putting for some but the cocktails are definitely worth a try. I personally love the regular Hurricane. MP does a great version with passionfruit that pairs well with a sunny spring or summer day. The bar staff are adorably dressed in bowties and vests. Most have hipster mustaches. The decor is quaint, dark wood, dimly lit and you won't want to miss out on seeing the throwback bathrooms. Waits for tables have generally been 1-2 hour waits at least. The food is great but extremely small portioned and relatively expensive. For my money's worth, I think of this place more for happy hour or just a place to get some oysters and a few drinks and then go elsewhere for an entree. Everything about this place was delicious - the food, the drinks, the oysters. Will definitely want to come back and try some of the other cocktails - I can't remember the name of the cocktail I had but it was one of the best drinks I've had in NYC so far...I know it had egg white frothy goodness in it, and every sip was better than the one before. The bartenders definitely care about their craft and know what they are doing here. Oysters: The variety and freshness made up for the size. It as an East-to-West coast assortment, and it was so, so good, especially paired with the nameless amazing drink I just mentioned. The pacing of the food and drinks was also perfect, which I think really added to the quality of the experience. Never felt rushed and it made me enjoy my food/drinks even more. After oysters I ordered an absinthe drip cocktail, which made me feel justtttt right. For my entree I ordered the Shrimp and grits, and it also hit the spot. Huge pieces of shrimp. This has to be my new favorite spot in Brooklyn or NY in general.. Stopped in for Happy Hour while on a business trip recently. First off the place is done so well. The decor and ambiance in the bar area are amazing. I read they were going for a NOLA style restaurant and I would say they nailed it!! Seems they didn't leave one detail unfinished. Next the drinks. They are known for their Absinthe cocktails. I've been to a lot of craft cocktail bars and some places overdo it in my opinion. All three cocktails I tried were pretty amazing. All had their own different taste while still accenting the Absinthe. The bartenders really know what they are doing here. Finally.. The food!! I'm an Oyster fan which is why I came and I was not disappointed. I simply ordered one of each happy hour oyster and couldn't have been happier. Came out on a giant serving plate and they were all sweet/salty/briny in their own way. Very fresh and very high quality. We waited.. a really long time.... but, other than that we had an awesome experience! We hung by the bar and waited for the rest of our party which were all on different people's times... -_- Anyway, once everyone was there we were seated about 45 minutes later. The bar was busy, which is always a good sign. It was a Sunday evening and the place was buzzing like a Thursday night. Once seated our wait staff made some pretty awesome wine and scotch suggestions that we went with. Of course those suggestions were obvious upsells, but they were nevertheless fantastic choices. We went with the 166 Cour-Cheverny, Herve Villamade, "Les Acacias," 2009 $62. and for Scotch we had a round of Isle of Jura $21 a glass. For appetizers I ordered the DELICIOUS: Lobster (Nova Scotia) New England Style $17 - which was totally worth the experience and flavors. Then I had the Five Fish Stew which comes with one piece of: Cod, Clams, Prawns, Mussels, Oysters for $13 and was absolutely scrumptious! and finally, to top off our dinner meeting, we had the "La Maison" Plateau which comes with (12 oysters, lobster, crab, scallop, 4 shrimp, clams) for $80. It had some wonderful and very good seafood. [see pic] Aside from that I ordered 5 Blue Point and 5 Beach Point oysters which were simply phenomenal. Still one of my favorite places after all these years! Oyster happy hour is simply the best - they always have an amazing selection of great tasting oysters. The decor of this restaurant is simply gorgeous, and I love how elegant the staff looks - dapper ties/suspenders and beautiful floral dresses. The drinks are super yummy and def worth the price. My friends and I promptly arrived at 4pm on a Friday and had no issues getting seats at the bar (group of 6). Be smart and come early. I love the wrap around bar and cool, speakeasy aura. Basically no dining tables, so it's really a place to go with ONE other person. Oysters I ordered all East Coast oysters because we live.. on the east coast and that is what you should do. My favorite was definitely the Copp's Island because it was surprisingly voluminous and succulent, but everyone has different taste. Drinks I hate licorish so I hated my absinthe drink. This spot located in the heart of Brooklyn is definitely a must try. It is a great restaurant if you love Seafood and Oysters. I went on a weekend in the summer. Parking is usually hard to find however that day it was luckily easy! The restaurant had a nice dark European feel in my opinion. I was seated outside in the back of the restaurant which felt very Cozy. The decor with the Christmas lights made it feel like a different environment. This establishment is known for their oysters. They have so many to choose from which it can be overwhelming if you're not an oyster addict like I am. The oysters ranged from $2 and up which is not a bad price compared to other places. They also have happy hour $1 Oysters as well if you make it in time. Drinks and Food was good especially my Sea Urchin appetizer. As a speakeasy enthusiast, this is hands down my favorite one of all time! If you want to splurge a little on amazing gourmet cocktails, this is absolutely the place. My favorite is the Maison Piña Colada. The drink always come served inside a fresh coconut. Probably the BEST dollar oyster menu in all of NYC. Do you know how rare it is to find something other than bluepoints on the happy hour list? Not that I have a thing against local oysters, but it is such a treat to find varieties (and almost 20!!!) from Willapa Bay, Hood Canal, Rhode Island, and PEI. I could come every week! Good for small groups inside or outside (both are equally as speakeasy-chic) but personally, I recommend coming with one person and sitting at the bar. This used to be one of my all-time favorite places in the city -- somewhere I'd recommend to out-of-towners and would delight in going to myself. This past weekend, I got violent food poisoning from a shrimp dish at Maison's brunch. Using both deductive reasoning (it was my first meal of the day and the symptoms started around ~2.5 hours later) and blood tests at the ER (yes, I got that sick), I was able to point the finger conclusively at the shellfish brunch I ate at MP. When my dining companion called to let them know - as I could barely lift my head from the toilet much less make a phone call - they were incredibly rude and basically absolved themselves of any responsibility by saying that nobody else had this problem. I will NEVER go back to Maison and I will NEVER recommend it to another friend. I am horrified by the service and more importantly by how unbelievably ill I got from a pricey brunch. The last time I had food poisoning this bad was from street food in India, no joke. read more

While it did take about 45 minutes to get a table, they took down our number, and text us when our table was ready. We waited across the street at a sausage bar (also a great place). We tried about 15 different types of oysters, their bread, and a cocktail. Everything was delicious, the service was great, the decor and the ambiance were fantastic. It was fun watching the bartenders turning out cocktails from our table. The staff were dressed in prohibition-era garb, which was really neat! My boyfriend is an oyster fanatic and when he found out about Maison Premiere, he ensured we went ASAP. I also have had friends rave about their happy hour and the quality of the cocktails. We decided to stop in on a Sunday afternoon while in the area. Before hand I looked to see if there was any possible way that I could make reservations through Open Table, which was not even an option. After investigating via their website, they limit or do not even take reservations. We were preparing for the worst upon arrival. Luckily enough, it was busy, but not packed. My party of three was able to be seated at a table within five minutes post arrival. The staff that greeted us was very professional and quite friendly. Once seated, our server went over their menu and ordering style for the table. Our server was well versed and knew her menu. We asked her what cocktails she recommended based upon our usual drink preferences. Her suggestions were spot on! Each one of our cocktails were delicious and beautifully crafted. The prices for the cocktails were the standard $12-17 each. The price you pay for a cocktail there is so worth it based upon the quality and the size. We were recommended by a friend to order the "Chef's Selection" of oysters, which consisted of twelve oysters of four different varieties that day. The ambiance of the establishment is very charming with antique flares at every corner you look. The decor of the interior gives me the feeling that I am taken back in time to a Parisian restaurant circa 1920's. I love the warmth of the atmosphere. If you love oysters and a good raw bar in general, then this is your place. Being that I am from out of town, the chances of me making a happy hour is slim to none. With the possible exception of the guy in baggy jeans, sitting in the bar being way too into his date, I was unquestionable the least hip person in this very hip, 20's inspired seafood bar / restaurant. I did not mind. The staff, fashionably dressed according to the 20's style, was lovable, helpful, smiling and attentive. They seemed to have it all under control, providing service with knowledge. The restaurant has a cool vibe, but is also cozy. The music was old fashioned, as it should, but I also recognized something from the 50's and 60's every now and then. The noise level was between average and loud, creating the perfect buzzing sound you expect from a place like this. I found this place based on the New York oysters map, and had the Chef's selection of oysters for starter. The selection represented both east and west side of the US, and they were all delicious. For main dish, I had the sea bass, which was perfectly cooked. I wasn't too happy with the sides, they were good, but nothing special. I should probably have trusted my cravings and gone for some of the tempting raw dishes on the menu. Although I'm not a dessert person, I was tempted by the description of the cheese cake. When it arrived, I was a bit disappointed by the balance of the ingredients. However; It turns out that the large amount of creamy cheese did not need all that much crunch or chocolate. And although this place probably fancies itself a cocktail bar, that is nothing special these days. I'm all right with "too cool for school" service at bars, but not when I am eating. You've got a tie and a mustache...wow...that's so cool...you are absolutely entitled to be a d-bag because you are soooo coooool. And I will just neglect that fact that you tool my drink when it was still about a quarter full. And that the prices on the bill didn't match the menu. So, where does the second star come from. But once you step into that time portal, you conjure up romantic notions of making this place a habit. Even their happy hour prices make that somewhat of a possibility. This oyster cocktail bar has managed to do what Disneyland valiantly attempts and halfway succeeds to accomplish with complete physical and historical transformation. Stepping into Maison Premiere takes you into an ephemeral world of exquisiteness much like Owen Wilson in Midnight in Paris. Wearing anything that was invented after 1886 is a fashion faux paus. Oh, and there's an absinthe fountain. A gorgeous backyard garden awaits your romantic fantasies. The servers are wearing suspenders. They have pull chains in the bathrooms. Go now and be forever grateful you did. Drink recommendations: Their champagne cocktail (I cannot conjure up the real name for the life of me...but it comes in a pewter cup, garnished with a beautiful bunch of mint leaves and is incredibly refreshing). Also, the Moscow Mule, which may or may not appear on the regular menu. But surely anything you ask or describe the more than capable bartenders can serve it up to you. A little appetizer of their warm, soft bread will hold you over through any of your absinthe cocktails. Make sure you go here to enjoy the ambiance with a special friend or someone, fully expecting to have a deeper philosophical conversation than you've ever had before. This place can single handedly be the reason I'd move to North Brooklyn and give up my South Brooklyn beach life. The drinks, Pimms Cup, BlackBerry something with absinthe, the President. .. God I'm ruining the drink menu but they're all AMAZING. LIKE AMAAAAZING. The oyster bar is the best I've been to. The wait is insanely absurd. You're talking two to three hours to get IN THE DOOR much less seated with a drink in hand. Now you know it's serious when the line is that long in the midst of a city wide snow storm that's about the shut it down. Inside you're taking to a new world, blast from the past, curly hair, red lips and aphrodisiac heaven a these oysters. It's like Pleasantville meets the Prohibition era. Yep that's exactly right. I've never eaten anything here outside of scallops, oysters and a lobster dish. Food is fresh light, their house maisonette sauce is amazing for the oysters and sitting in front of the guy making your gorgeous hand craft drink or shucking your oysters just adds to it. Frankly speaking, the poached oysters caviar dish was not bad, however, we ordered a dozen of oysters on the higher price point, and they served us with cheap oysters instead. I should have say something to the bar tender since he was the one who served us the cheap oysters, but since I was sitting at the bar area completely filled with customers around me, he would be really embarrassed if I pointed it out in front of everyone. We were seated at U-shaped marbled bar by a very important and serious looking maitre'd. Really yummy oysters...I can't remember which one H and I preferred over the rest, but they were sooooooooooooooo fresh and delish. The texture of the lobster tail was really good and roe was done perfectly. We noticed the time on the clock...I don't think it was daylight savings time, since the clock was exactly an hour earlier. Large variety of oysters? LOVE it! But the wait for happy hour was just overkill. My boyfriend & I waited an hour, which we were fine with. But then it took another 15 minutes to seat us. THEN it look another hour and then some for our oysters to come AFTER placing the order. The waitress was kind enough to compensate us with free cocktail shrimp so I give her credit for that. But another downer? The portion of the other dishes we ordered weren't exactly worth what we paid for... Overall rating? Meh. Maybe the hype ruined it for us :/ read more

1$ Oyster happy hour from 4-7pm! Come to poppa'! Fans of A Geography of Oysters by Rowan Jacobsen will should be flocking here by the dozen, be it if you live in NYC or are just visiting. A lot of oyster happy hours in New York only sell the usual Blue Points for a buck, but not here, you get the full 20 or so selection at full discount. The rebirth old New York hipster decor may or may not be your thing. But regardless, if you're a connoisseur of bivalves your time will be well spent at Maison Premiere between 4-7pm. A note to customers: It will be jammed between 4-7 so expect a well worth it wait. A note to the pastry chef: The cheesecake is awesome but the 1 tablespoon portion for $9 is pushing it. read more

Maison Premiere is without doubt, a new favorite. The moment you step over their threshold, you are transported back into old Paris. Every touch adds to the perfect bivalve ambiance. Although my tardy dining companion made us too late to enjoy the fabulous happy hour deal ($1/oyster weekdays before 7PM), I was still beyond satisfied with our meal. If you aren't anxious for a table, be sure to loiter around the bar and pounce on the first spot that opens up, as they will serve you molluscs right there. The boy and I opted for a half dozen Caraquet and another half dozen of the Sewansecott, which were fresh and perfectly prepared. They slid right off the shell and slid down your throat, and the homemade condiments accompanied them wonderfully. The drink list at Maison is well crafted, and reasonably priced. I started out with a refreshing gin julep (who knew?), and switched over to a crisp glass of Chenin Blanc to wash down my oysters. If you have any questions on which libation is best for you, be sure to ask the knowledgeable and friendly Brian Quinn as he will undoubtedly steer you in the right direction! Maison Premiere is the first place I've been to in a long time that hasn't used an abundance of citrus to mask the taste of alcohol in their cocktails. Instead they focus on a quality balance of ingredients that make their concoctions dangerously drinkable. Paris? Yes you'll get that Parisian vibe in this place! The restaurant/bar decor have that frenchy feel and even the attendants are dressed for the part. We started with the Maison Absinthe Colata which was a glorious choice. We missed the oyster happy hour and ended up choosing our oysters (price range about 3x more after HH). They have superb service which undeniably makes any dining experience even more pleasant. I love a well decorated bar because it just makes my whole tipsy experience so magical. HAHA My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night to grab a small bite and drinks before our reservation at Peter Lugers. We were told that the wait would be 45 minutes so we waited outside under the heating lamp since it was cold outside. I was so excited when I walked in and saw the warm and cozy decor. The biggest source of light in here are the candles that were lit everywhere. The bartenders were looking so dapper. Everything in here reminded me of what I imagined post prohibition would look like. Even the bathrooms had vintage looking toilets! Now onto the food! We're from the west coast so we wanted to try east coast oysters. We order only east coast oysters (Shooting Salts, Fishers Island, Cotuit, & Spring Creek) and top neck clams. All the oysters were good! They taste just as good as west coast oysters. I forgot which drink I ordered but it was good and very strong. We came here for a special occasion and the staff behind the oyster bar was informative and helped us choose the oysters for HH (comprehensive selection of 11 different oysters ranging from $1-$1.25). Out of the 7 dishes ordered, our favorites were chilled scallop (lightly seared), chilled octopus (perfectly cooked), and venison tartare (light and flavorful).
