It was a pleasure to be invited to SSUNDAZE, a Secret Summer festival, here in Long Island City / New York City on a Sunday afternoon and evening a few days ago. It was good to go and feel great about the environment. We knew what to do. Located at The Foundry on 42-38 9th Street under the 59th Street / Koch bridge, this was an excellent place to be July 26th. The weather was nice. The team was warm. The greetings were friendly. The visitors were enjoying themselves. And yes, the alcohol was flowing. It was the place to be for the feeling of an event you might have attended or created on another day. We went to the four different bars to choose from. Each one with different versions of old standards. SSUNDAZE Tequila. SSUNDAZE Vodka and Gin. SSUNDAZE Cocktails. Or a SSUNDAZE soft drink. All was available as you made your choice. We had to start a Tequila Sunrise with fresh cinnamon and ginger leaves. We also had a Vodka Lemonade, also made with ginger and a little bit of honey. The drinks were light and tasty, with a touch of summer in them at this time. It was not heavy for the day. We also saw an offering of white or red wine that was slightly cooled for the day. There were even other choices of traditional vodka tonics, gin and tonic, and other choices to have at your convenience. It really depended on what you wanted and when. There was even an away of water and soft drinks as you walked around. This was from Topo Chico to take and have at any time. You would find Ginger Ale, Sodas, Iced team, Lemonade, and more. You would even find plain bottles of water, or try for water that was a bit different and fresh with a little taste. All was yours today. As we enjoyed the visit we did talk around to the team who could fill us in on the place. Whether you wanted to hold an event for 1,000 guests or a wedding with only 125 people, you could do that here. The Foundry and the events could change for the event you wanted to hold at the time. There was a list of 5 or more convenient chefs and restaurants to select from. There were also local bars, winners and cocktails to choose from. There was a group to select and bring in when you were going to be there for your event. Better still, the location was able to be redesigned based on the purpose of the event and how it would manage best for what you wanted to do. Is it worth it? Yes, if this is what you would like. There is talent. Ideas. Talking. Food and beverages. Thus, as a guest, you can enjoy and talk. What you take is for you to have. Some of the talent there was strong. People try. We all enjoy the people who are there. In fact, we should move forward with the events and see it. Or show it. Do we have a show. A wedding. An event. Can we then think. Drink. Eat and have fun.

Four words: Book This Venue Now. Don't hesitate!!! I've been dying to write this well-deserved review (and also to find an excuse to post more of my incredible wedding photos). We searched for wedding venues on Yelp, and The Foundry was the second site visit we did. My husband and I immediately fell in love - both with the gorgeous space, but also the amazing people who work there (hi Lindsay and Angela!) - we knew right away this was our place. It's truly a secret garden oasis in NYC. I love that when you're driving there it almost feels like you're going to the wrong place, but then when you walk in, it's insanely stunning. Important things to note: - You have to be prepared to bring in all of your own vendors, this is just a raw (gorgeous) space. - The staff at the Foundry will give you amazing contacts and recommendations for who to work with - they make the process easy and fun - There are so many options for how to set up your event, which we loved. We used the main space for the ceremony & dancing, the greenhouse for cocktail hour, and the outdoor area for dinner which was literally one of the most beautiful places I've ever been (amazing views of the Queensboro bridge). We also were able to use the DuVall rooftop next door for photos - insane. Our friends have VERY good taste and have been to tons of weddings and NYC events - the number of people who told us this was the most beautiful wedding they've ever been to is a big one. I could go on and on - but I'll leave it here. If you love NYC, want to work with amazing people, and want your venue to blow the minds of your guests, The Foundry is it!

I didn't know it when I first started looking but The Foundry was my DREAM venue! It is the perfect mix of a rustic garden blended with NYC and the 59th street bridge in the background. It is simply beautiful. All of our guests were impressed and we were lucky to eat outside as planned. Our guests were amazed that a venue like this exists so close to NYC and had fun exploring the spaces, and even bathrooms which have relics of when The Foundry operated as a factory!

My husband and I are wedding photographers and The Foundry is one of our absolute favorite venues. There is absolutely so much to photograph there within the property and the adjoining Ravel Hotel. As a customizable space, it is always a treat to see its appearance change for every event. It is a top notch venue and every wedding we have photographed there was incredible!

A definitely pleasant bonus (sanctuary) for your run-of-the-mill, overwhelmed, jet-lagged, outta towner staying at The Westin @Times Square.

I never dreamed of having a wedding but when it came to planning our own wedding we knew we didn't want to get married at a banquet hall. I love greenery but since my husband wanted hard liquor served at our wedding, Napa was out of the question. I was recommended by two of my coworkers to check out the Foundry. One of them even got married there even though he was a UK resident at the time. The Foundry was definitely a stunning unique space amidst a desolate area. What drew me in was the lush ever growing ivy wrapped around the exterior of the old restored building and inside the greenhouse. I never imagined finding a garden venue in the city. As everything in life, we decided to check out other alternatives before making a decision. I brought my husband to probably ten venues before going back to the first venue we checked out. Everything else paled in comparison. My husband and I had our concerns of the limited capacity the space could hold but it helped us narrow our guest count to our closest family and friends. Our point of contact - Angela and Lindsey were very responsive. I probably emailed them daily during the weeks leading up to the venue but they always responded promptly and usually within the hour. Since the Foundry was naturally beautiful in itself, I kept decorations simple with lots of greenery, candles and ivory flowers. It definitely looked like a secret garden on the day of our wedding and served as an amazing backdrop for photos. Thank you for restoring this 19th century building so that my husband and I could share our special day with our closest friends and family.

Having three bridal suites upstairs was such a bonus, and the parking lot made things easy for vendors coming and going. From the start, Amelia was so detail-oriented during our initial tour and allowed us unlimited site visits, which was incredibly helpful for planning. Midway through, our main contact switched to Arthur, who was amazing, so sweet, accommodating, and customer-focused. Frank was wonderful as well, even granting us three extra hours of venue access and allowing us to ship a large mirror ahead of time, which was such a huge help and greatly appreciated. On the day-of, Arthur and Kat were the main on-site coordinators and they were incredible. I did hire a third-party, day-of coordinator and I don't regret this, as it helped give me peace of mind to ensure everything stayed on track! Honestly, the entire staff went above and beyond. My guests raved about the bartenders, especially the bald gentleman everyone loved (I am sorry I didn't catch his name) and the wait staff were so attentive and kind. Guests with dietary restrictions felt especially taken care of thanks to their thoughtfulness. I didn't catch everyone's name, but I do remember one person named Rafael was soooo sweet and was very attentive. Overall, I have noticed they have excellent staff retention (many of their staff have worked there for many years). That alone makes me happy and made me feel comfortable booking them. And the food... wow. From hors d'oeuvres to the grazing board to late-night pizza, everything was delicious. I received so many compliments, which is VERY rare for wedding food! I didn't eat much that night, but The Sanctuary kindly packed us (a LOT) of steak to-go, and my wife and I devoured it at 3 a.m. It was incredible. I ate that steak for lunch the two days following our wedding! At the end of the night, one of the staff members even helped us load our personal belongings into the Lyft, which they absolutely had no obligation to do. I truly cannot recommend this venue enough. It's a hidden gem that doesn't nickel-and-dime like other places and truly values building great relationships with their couples. If you're considering The Sanctuary, I would ABSOLUTELY book it!

To anyone looking to get married there, we had 150 guests and the space was perfect for that number. The tented dinner area was comfortably yet still intimate and the sanctuary lounge offered ample space for the dance party to end the night. Also, there is a parking lot the venue utilizes with spots for about 30 cars which was a big help! In addition to the Sanctuary's support, what helped our big day was having an outside coordinator and being very prepared ourselves.

This review is of how this event coordinator organized our wedding ceremony and reception this September, at a venue called T Studio in Astoria (you can see amy review of that venue separately). Things they organized well: * For the most part the package is reasonably priced and a lot of the things are included (e.g. DJ, photographer, staff, décor) etc. However, as we've learned later (see below), this organizer takes on more than they can logistically handle and it would have been much better if we actually organized some of these elements ourselves. * The food -the restaurant this coordinator ordered catering from was very good. * The décor was in line with what I wanted, BUT...see the list of "buts" below... Things they organized.... NOT so well: * There were multiple warning signs early on that this wedding coordinator is not very detail-oriented. Communicating with her was hard--she took a long time to reply to emails and things were disappearing in the thread. For example, she sent us our wedding contract three times, each time with errors in it. * They set up very late so there's no chance to check everything--and that's too bad. For one: THEY MESSED UP THE TABLE SEATING. I provided a correct seating chart way in advance and we only had 8 tables (!). And somehow they couldn't get that right and put the same guests at two tables, which completely messed up the whole arrangement and resulted in two of our guests actually eating dinner in a back room next to garbage cans (!) because they wanted to sit together. To make it worse, the coordinator was trying to deny it in a conversation with me later. * Multiple things that were part of our package were missing during the event, including a coffee station and a water station. I myself (as bride) had to run to the bar every time I wanted a glass of water, and towards the end of the event the guests informed me that there is no coffee! Which was in our package! They refunded us for the cost of the missing items ($125! Out of ~$14K), but well, we only had one wedding. * The bar RAN OUT OF WINE before the event ended. Already the bar under this company closes 30mins before the end of the event, and all we had on offer for wine was house red and house white. * The ceremony took place on the terrace: there was a loud air conditioning unit that practically drowned out our vows. * I wanted to add a champagne reception to our package, and at the beginning I wanted to manage it myself, but our wedding coordinator offered to take care of it for an extra charge. BIG MISTAKE. They did not get enough champagne and were serving glasses with embarrassingly tiny amounts of champagne at some point. I would have bought the bottles myself had I known in advance! * In general, the staff assistance was non-existent. My parents and multiple guests reported that the staff offered no guidance, the guests were confused as to where they were supposed to go or what to do. * We paid for "passed hors d'oevres " as part of our package, which were supposed to be distributed before the ceremony. My parents reported that a waiter showed up 2-3 times out on the terrace with a small plate of hors d'oevres which lasted for just a few people. * The décor was also included in our package including tables and altar décor. The wedding coordinator did provide a vision board and we discussed getting specific things, like fairy lights and lighting up the aisle with candles/lampions. There were neither. The coordinator said she made a budget decision to not include those -and did not inform me about it! But based on all the other fails my guess is that she simply forgot. The part that particularly irked me was: I found a Love-shaped balloon on Amazon and offered to buy it and bring it for decoration, but the wedding coordinator said she'll take care of it. You've guessed it...there was no balloon. I could have easily done that myself. * My general impression is: when you're planning a wedding, you can't possibly think of every single thing as the bride. That is why you hire a wedding organizer to take off some of the load (and pay them money for it!). Foresight and support was completely lacking from this vendor. I had to think of everything myself and spell everything out, and on occasion even the instructions I gave them were not executed correctly. From things I didn't spell out but I had hope that they will interpret them, here's one example: we provided little bottles of bubbles for guests to use during the ceremony. The event coordinator distributed the bottles on chairs for the ceremony, but provided no instructions to the guests to use them. Result: there were no bubbles during the ceremony or at any point. You just expect that an experienced wedding coordinator would know to "manage" the crowd and give out instructions. Needless to say, I cannot recommend this vendor.

This review is so overdue!…read more We had our reception here last October. The space is huge and you are really able to transform it however you'd like although the managers do help you with some standard seating layouts. We had 120 guests and the size was just right. We had plenty of room for seating buffet tables and dance floor. They even provide a bartender for you to use that night. I'll post some pictures which tell more than I can in the writeup but it's definitely worth 5 stars, and the main reason was John. When crap went wrong he calmed us down. Took us drinks and food in the back and to our table. Reminded us to relax and enjoy. Our DJ which we brought on our own was late and I started to get worked up but John cooled me down. He also helped us plan and figure out a lot of things as we had not a clue in the world what we were doing. He made it worth every penny. They also have many vendors to recommend should you need them. We used theirs for the tables and chairs and also the waitstaff. The prices were reasonable compared to other vendors and trust me, we checked. If you're looking to do a wedding on a budget and paying for yourself, you should use the Aurora Gallery.
