The Aurora Gallery is an event coordination company, NOT a specific venue; they work with multiple venues. This review is of how this event coordinator organized our wedding ceremony and reception this September, at a venue called T Studio in Astoria (you can see amy review of that venue separately). Things they organized well: * For the most part the package is reasonably priced and a lot of the things are included (e.g. DJ, photographer, staff, décor) etc. However, as we've learned later (see below), this organizer takes on more than they can logistically handle and it would have been much better if we actually organized some of these elements ourselves. * The food -the restaurant this coordinator ordered catering from was very good. * The décor was in line with what I wanted, BUT...see the list of "buts" below... Things they organized.... NOT so well: * There were multiple warning signs early on that this wedding coordinator is not very detail-oriented. Communicating with her was hard--she took a long time to reply to emails and things were disappearing in the thread. For example, she sent us our wedding contract three times, each time with errors in it. * They set up very late so there's no chance to check everything--and that's too bad. For one: THEY MESSED UP THE TABLE SEATING. I provided a correct seating chart way in advance and we only had 8 tables (!). And somehow they couldn't get that right and put the same guests at two tables, which completely messed up the whole arrangement and resulted in two of our guests actually eating dinner in a back room next to garbage cans (!) because they wanted to sit together. To make it worse, the coordinator was trying to deny it in a conversation with me later. * Multiple things that were part of our package were missing during the event, including a coffee station and a water station. I myself (as bride) had to run to the bar every time I wanted a glass of water, and towards the end of the event the guests informed me that there is no coffee! Which was in our package! They refunded us for the cost of the missing items ($125! Out of ~$14K), but well, we only had one wedding. * The bar RAN OUT OF WINE before the event ended. Already the bar under this company closes 30mins before the end of the event, and all we had on offer for wine was house red and house white. * The ceremony took place on the terrace: there was a loud air conditioning unit that practically drowned out our vows. * I wanted to add a champagne reception to our package, and at the beginning I wanted to manage it myself, but our wedding coordinator offered to take care of it for an extra charge. BIG MISTAKE. They did not get enough champagne and were serving glasses with embarrassingly tiny amounts of champagne at some point. I would have bought the bottles myself had I known in advance! * In general, the staff assistance was non-existent. My parents and multiple guests reported that the staff offered no guidance, the guests were confused as to where they were supposed to go or what to do. * We paid for "passed hors d'oevres " as part of our package, which were supposed to be distributed before the ceremony. My parents reported that a waiter showed up 2-3 times out on the terrace with a small plate of hors d'oevres which lasted for just a few people. * The décor was also included in our package including tables and altar décor. The wedding coordinator did provide a vision board and we discussed getting specific things, like fairy lights and lighting up the aisle with candles/lampions. There were neither. The coordinator said she made a budget decision to not include those -and did not inform me about it! But based on all the other fails my guess is that she simply forgot. The part that particularly irked me was: I found a Love-shaped balloon on Amazon and offered to buy it and bring it for decoration, but the wedding coordinator said she'll take care of it. You've guessed it...there was no balloon. I could have easily done that myself. * My general impression is: when you're planning a wedding, you can't possibly think of every single thing as the bride. That is why you hire a wedding organizer to take off some of the load (and pay them money for it!). Foresight and support was completely lacking from this vendor. I had to think of everything myself and spell everything out, and on occasion even the instructions I gave them were not executed correctly. From things I didn't spell out but I had hope that they will interpret them, here's one example: we provided little bottles of bubbles for guests to use during the ceremony. The event coordinator distributed the bottles on chairs for the ceremony, but provided no instructions to the guests to use them. Result: there were no bubbles during the ceremony or at any point. You just expect that an experienced wedding coordinator would know to "manage" the crowd and give out instructions. Needless to say, I cannot recommend this vendor. read more

This review is so overdue! We had our reception here last October. The space is huge and you are really able to transform it however you'd like although the managers do help you with some standard seating layouts. We had 120 guests and the size was just right. We had plenty of room for seating buffet tables and dance floor. They even provide a bartender for you to use that night. I'll post some pictures which tell more than I can in the writeup but it's definitely worth 5 stars, and the main reason was John. When crap went wrong he calmed us down. Took us drinks and food in the back and to our table. Reminded us to relax and enjoy. Our DJ which we brought on our own was late and I started to get worked up but John cooled me down. He also helped us plan and figure out a lot of things as we had not a clue in the world what we were doing. He made it worth every penny. They also have many vendors to recommend should you need them. We used theirs for the tables and chairs and also the waitstaff. The prices were reasonable compared to other vendors and trust me, we checked. If you're looking to do a wedding on a budget and paying for yourself, you should use the Aurora Gallery. read more

I recently came here for the Love Sprung event. I'm not getting married but 2 of my best friends are so since I'm a good bridesmaid, I decided to tag along. The Aurora Gallery is inside a warehouse-type building in Astoria. You go up a couple of flights of stairs and are led into a medium-size space. The gallery can be used for nearly any kind of event. My friends are not using this as their venue but one of the managers gave us some information on how many people can be seated (120). I found the space to be a bit cramped with just the vendors along the perimeter so I'm unsure how a seated dinner would be comfortable. I did like the exposed brick, though. The bar area is small but for an event like this, it works. Overall, it's a nice space if you want to do something on the smaller side. I cannot see a large wedding reception taking place here. Plus it's a unisex bathroom which I know some people are uncomfortable with. read more

I went to the Aurora Gallery in May for the Art House Astoria Second Annual Gala. I had won a couple of tickets as a courtesy of Yelp Queens so thank you very much for letting me go! My friend and I had a great time talking to people, learning about the organization and enjoying some vino. The Gala was so cute with all the little kids running around lisetning to the beautiful, live music being played in the front of the room. I can see why so many people say this is a great space for art openings and other various functions. The appeal is certainly in its wood floors and very high ceilings. read more

My wife and I had our WEDDING ceremony + reception here on 11/11/2017. It was exactly what we were looking for! The Aurora Gallery has a rustic and familiar feel to it. Naeema keeps it real and allows you to be flexible on most things although it is easier to just trust her and her staff on small details. For the wedding, we tried to mix & match a few items, but ended up going with their Classic Package with catering from William Hallet (excellent food), alcohol (plentiful) and DJ (Joe). We brought in our own photographer, flowers and dessert which worked out well. Highly recommended all around. They are fair with prices and won't gouge you the way other venues in NYC do. My now wife and I held our wedding ceremony and reception here: it was the best choice we made when it came to the planning process. Naeema and the staff of the Aurora Gallery were personable, more than helpful and knowledgeable, and displayed what seemed unending patience as we went about choosing the details for the wedding. We planned the whole day ourselves and it simply wouldn't have been possible without Naeema's input, who helpfully shared with us her experience, specially at the moments when our inexperience with party planning was obvious (how much ice to get, etc.). We also received the help of two staff members and a bartender procured by Naeema, who made the entire thing run smoothly and paid attention to all details. The space itself is beautiful, with hardwood floors, high ceilings, exposed brick walls. The gallery provided us with a basic decoration package which meant we only had to add some touches. They provided us with tables and chairs, and had a wonderful sound system. We had 70 guests, and the space did not feel cramped/crowded, nor did it feel too big. Overall I can't imagine finding a better, more flexible event space for their prices and value. read more

My wife and I hosted a wedding reception here and for flexibility of both space and staff, you can't get any better. Beautiful hardwood floors and high ceilings make for easy decoration. A few lights and other touches can transform it into whatever you're going for. The staff (I say staff, but to be honest it's one woman doing pretty much everything from bookings to arranging the furniture) was incredibly flexible and helpful, even letting us come in the day before to set up our decorations. Overall I can't picture finding a better, more flexible event space in the city for their prices. read more

We hosted our SURPRISE wedding at Aurora on October 8th. It was such a fantastic event space! The lights and lighting went perfect with our decor. Naeema and John were both extremely accommodating throughout the entire process. John was our event manager for the night and he was all we could have asked for. He was so helpful during setup; making sure the lighting and furniture was exactly how we liked it. He brought us food and cocktails throughout the evening and constantly made sure we had everything we needed. I would HIGHLY recommend the space! read more

NYC brides: look no further than the Aurora Gallery!!! We first stepped into the space on the first blizzardy Saturday last January. I was getting worried about pulling off fall wedding in NYC while holding to a budget, and was quickly put at ease when I saw this space. Not only does it have large window and lots of light, it's just charming as can be, and can be altered to set the stage for any event you could imagine. Naeema, the venue coordinator, is a superhero. She was available for my questions of all sizes, and at every point made me feel comfortable and at ease. They offer incredible (TRULY INCREDIBLE) package where you can opt to bring in your own vendors. We decided to go with theirs with a few add-ons. I'll shout them all out later. Naeema was truly what every bride needs. I was able to rest and relax and focus on the task at hand: getting married! She helped us wrangle a 20 person choir, a 12 person wedding party plus readers, an officiant, and 100+ guests, not to mention an entire staff of servers and bartenders. She is cool under pressure and is true to her word every step of the way. We couldn't have pulled this off without her, and wouldn't have been to enjoy our wedding day with as much peace and serenity of mind. Here are the package vendors I have to shout out: DJ Joe: He was fantastic! He engaged with the crowd just the right amount and played the most amazing assortment of tunes. Our guests were up and dancing the entire time, having a blast at every turn. A very detailed questionnaire he submits allows him to be very receptive to your music needs/ tastes. William Hallet catering/ John: They are AMAZING. John from the gallery and Chef George from the restaurant hosted my groom and I in a delicious wedding menu tasting, and believe me, this food is the real deal: delicious, intriguing, and sophisticated. We also chose to bring our families here on Thanksgiving and they were the most warm and gracious of hosts, even on the holiday and despite the fact that there were several large groups there. Mariana at Glyp Photography: Mariana and her team are wonderful, and her photos are great (we have yet to see the final product and will add more the review later!) On the day, Mariana and her team were fun, engaging, and efficient and not overly obtrusive. I can't wait to see all the images they captured from the day! We had our wedding party here, and it was a really great experience. The space is fabulous, and very versatile, and the staff is amazingly patient and accessible. You know how you think you planned really well, and then you realize you only brought one corkscrew and no scissors and forgot to do about 17 other things? No problem, they will have you covered! The hardest part was getting people to leave at the end of the night. ;-) It's close to a couple of different subway lines which is key when you get outside Manhattan. There is also an awesome party store within walking distance if you need things like extra tablecloths, and grocery stores etc nearby for other supplies. Over the summer my fiancé and I had our engagement party here. It was the best decision we made and everyone is still talking about how unique our venue really was!! We had our wedding celebration here in Dec 2017. This was the only venue we saw and it was exactly what we were looking for. They offer different setups and packages depending on your needs. We had table setup for 96 seated guests with plenty of dance floor space. We had our own DJ and food brought in. We had them do the table decor and basic liquor package (we brought in additional top shelf liquor). Naaema and Jon were great. They were accommodating and went above and beyond to make our event a stress free and memorable one. I highly recommend this venue. read more

We had our wedding at Aurora Gallery on 10/22 and it was everything we could have hoped it would be. Naeema was always responsive when we had questions leading up the event, and John was super on the ball and helpful as our event manager on the day. He accommodated every request we had, and helped make sure everything was exactly how we wanted it and ran as smoothly as possible. Everything went off without a hitch, and we could not be happier. The space photographs beautifully as well. Every other NYC wedding venue we looked at stressed me out because of their pre-set packages or hefty pricetag with little to show for it. I had an amazing wedding here!!! I love the space and how you can so easily design it to suit your needs and aesthetic. The owners are so great and helpful, and they offer packages where they'll take care of everything for you - the catering, drinks, decorations, DJ etc. You can do it yourself too but it's nice to have that option. (Plus they know their services are reliable!) I had Naeema take care of decorations for us after telling her what we wanted and it was perfect. John made sure everything went smoothly on the day of. Me and my now wife used Aurora for our wedding reception in Oct, and could not be any happier with our decision. If you are looking for an open space for a do it yourself event whether it be a wedding, birthday, or a party of any type then you should definitely check out Aurora. From our first meeting to our final walk through to the big day they always made things as easy as possible for us. We dealt with John for the entire process and he is just a cool person to deal with, he is laid back and not trying to make things more stressful then they need to be, he will go out of his way to help out if it calls for it, he came in early from home the day of our wedding just to let me upstairs to bring in the alcohol and decorations, it's little things like that that make a big difference. As for any wedding vendors you might need I would strongly suggest going on their website and checking out all of their preferred vendors, they are preferred for a reason! We used just about all of them and they all were amazing! And best part none of them will break you in your budget. Aurora will from time to time have an event to showcase their space and all of those preferred vendors will be there, we went to one of those events and spoke to all of the vendors face to face all in one location, doesn't get any better than that! They even provide a bartender for your event which is included in the package price. They also have their own DJ booth and all equipment for the DJ ready to go. They also provide tables for your event and will have it all set it up the way you want it for your event. We had an extreme amount of compliments for our reception location, absolutely everyone loved the vibe at Aurora and we are extremely happy we chose them. Bottom line is if you are willing to put a little extra work into your event and want to save a lot of money by not choosing a traditional party hall then I strongly recommend Aurora gallery. Some people don't want the extra work and stress of an open space to plan it all yourself but it definitely worked for us. read more

We held our Engagement Party at Aurora Gallery on 6/4, and we received SO MANY compliments about what a great venue we chose. Many people though it was basically a wedding, because everything was that nice. We had about 80 guests, and the space could have easily fit another 40 or so comfortably. The lighting and decor combined with the industrial history makes for a beautiful and unique setting. From the first walk through tour up until the date of the event, we always felt we were in good hands. John is skilled at what he does, and very experienced. He kept telling us how many of these he's done, but we were still blown away on the day of event when he jumped in to help take care of catering, setting up, and put out various fires that always seem to come up on the day of your event. Both John and Naeema are very genuine and as far as NYC goes, these are the kind of people you want to be working with when you're planning an important event. There's no corporate america sales team here, just honest, hard working and experienced New Yorkers who know what they're doing. If you want a beautiful, 'outside the box', unique venue, then I urge you to hold your event here because nothing comes close in terms of accommodation, friendliness and overall value in the NYC area. read more

This is false advertising. This place is terrible. It's dirty, dusty, and old. The few sofas he had there were stained and ancient. The bathrooms are small, disgusting and claustrophobic. I couldn't believe it was the same place shown in the pictures. The owner is simply taking pics of other people's set up how ever many years ago and advertising it as his venue. He is also very uninformed about what the "packages" are and extremely condescending. Every question that I asked his responses were "didn't she already answer that? Or "Whatever she told you that's the price". Although I was given a quote for seating, etc. It's simply the space that's being rented out. He doesn't own any furniture. You pay him to pay someone else to rent it. It's a mess. Bottom line, it's false advertising and needs to be taken down from all these sites. Maybe they should consider cleaning a bit before showing to potential consumers. Sweep, dust, mop, maybe even polish the floors a little bit. read more

My husband and I had our wedding reception here in June and it was absolutely wonderful! The space is great and can be customized to any event and they even provide you with tables and chairs as well as some decoration and the artwork of your choice. At the affordable price, so close to Manhattan, it's unbeatable. Perfect for a tight budget wedding or other event as you can bring in your own alcohol and are free to pick vendors of your choice. We held our baby shower here in May and it was absolutely perfect! We had around 60 guests for a sit down dinner and easily had enough space for a large dance floor (we hired the DJ they recommended, Joe, and he was amazing!) and an area to serve food. The gallery has large windows which let in a lot of light. Since we had a DJ and wanted a dance atmosphere they lowered their blackout curtains and turned on their uplights which really helped get the party started. Both Naeema and John were easy to work with and very accommodating. John was the one who set up for the shower the night before and was there on the day of to make sure everything ran smoothly and was perfect, which it was thanks to him and his amazing staff. We had so many guests tell us that the party was too short and how great the space was. I would definitely recommend Aurora Gallery for any event! read more

Everything was a dream! Everything was perfect! Everything went beyond any expectations we had envisioned. We are more then happy with everything and how our wedding turned out. We had our 'rehearsal brunch' at the Aurora Gallery the day before our wedding and it was perfect. Working with Naeema throughout the planning of the event (before and day of) was so great--she's professional, super organized, creative, easy going and helpful. The room looked gorgeous (included the beautiful lanterns, fabrics, furniture, and of course the amazing in-house art), our guests had the best time, and it was an all around fantastic party. It could have been our wedding! It's really conveniently located, close to a few subway lines and had a really great/hip feel that really we couldn't find anywhere else in the city. There's also tons of parking right outside which was great for our local family. The space could be used for so many different types of parties...shower/birthday/wedding events etc...I can't wait for our next bash! read more

***Reserving The Aurora Gallery was the absolute best decision I made! My 2 daughters celebrated their birthdays (Sweet 16 & 18) at The Aurora Gallery. They decided they wanted to have a "Sweet" themed dance party for their friends. 100 teenagers, a DJ and plenty of decorations including a candy tree, lollipop ceiling and a big ol' bounce house! Naeema, the manager and all around event expert, was incredibly personable, professional and pleasant to work with. Naeema and the entire staff were helpful and involved during the planning stage then gently stepped in several times during the party to check if we needed anything. One of the highlights of the night was when the dancing stopped and the video my daughters made was projected onto one of the gallery walls. I went to this gallery for a break dancing event called "Unlucky Breaks" hosted by the NYC dance crew Floor Obsession. Immediately I was impressed by the clean and polished wooden floor, their set up of chairs for spectators. They also put up more colorful and abstract art that really set the vibe of the space for a fun and silly break dance event! This is definitely great space for all kinds of events! read more

And I'm an artist so I wanted to include my artwork in the decor. Aurora was perfect - they have really competitive prices, a great venue, flexibility, and experience. We hosted our wedding ceremony and reception at Aurora Gallery in March. It was beautiful. Both John and Naeema were easy to work with and very accommodating. Naeema was there for us during set-up and John stepped in when a bartender called out sick (we only found this out later when we ran into him on the train!). We had 75 people and I think this was the perfect number but you could easily go up to 85 and still have plenty of room for dancing (our families were dancing machines so the extra room proved vital). Overall, it really transforms into a gorgeous space that is one of a kind. We could not be happier. read more

Naema is the space coordinator and is knowledgeable, helpful and was overall terrific for our needs and wants before and on our workshop day. We had our wedding reception at the Aurora Gallery and it was great. Naeema was very helpful in helping us plan and provided useful insight. We met with her a couple of times before the event and she professionally answered all our questions. She offered us recommendations of vendors we could use; we went with some, but not others, which was fine. This way, you can personalize your event, the way you want it. For example, we had our event catered by Wild Ginger, who provides delicious vegan food, and by a seafood restaurant we also love. On the day of the event, the place looked great and and our guests were very pleased. Disappointed with the response I got from the Gallery team. I sent an email inquiring about the facilities and some other general questions for my wedding in 2016. I understand it's far and I am not looking to book the venue today, but I expect a better response than "check with us in the summer". Definitely not contacting them again. read more

Aurora Gallery hosted our wedding reception on 03/18/17 and everyone we spoke to had nothing but great things to say about the event.  We opted for "Classic Wedding Series" package which includes the venue for four hours, in-house furniture and décor, catering from a local restaurant plus staff, 5 hours of photography, DJ services for the duration of the event, a day-of-event coordinator, a bartender, among other things (a great value).  A few things you should definitely expect to factor into your budget are drinks, as they have a dry bar, and any additional décor touches you'd want to add, such as flowers.  John and Naeema the managers of the venue, were an absolute pleasure to work with - very friendly, accommodating to requests, and quick to respond to questions.   The space was able to comfortably accommodate our reception of over 50 people, with room to spare, and as you can see from the pictures, is a nice blank canvas to work with (hardwood floors and exposed brick) and customize to make it your own.  You hear a lot of horror stories about wedding food, but our guests really enjoyed the food, which was provided by local restaurant William Hallet.  The photographer, Marianna, was very responsive and did everything we asked of her the night of.  The DJ, Joe, was a bit unresponsive at times leading up to the night, did a great job during the event, playing the music we requested, feeding off the crowd, and keeping the party alive.  The day-of-event coordinator, Vivian, was very proactive in terms of organizing the timeline of the event, set our expectations for what realistically could and couldn't be done, and kept the night running smoothly.   Only a few negatives to note on the day-of, but all of which were handled quickly and smoothly. 1) We sent over a guest list with a specific seating chart, but some tables were combined without notifying us.  We got there early and noticed this, and after telling Naeema, she dealt with right away so that the intended tables were ready before the guests arrived. 2) We asked for two vegetarian plates to be provided for a couple of our guests, and once this came to our attention, we notified John who quickly contacted the caterers, who had it ready within 10 or so minutes. 3) One of the side dishes we requested for our menu wasn't present the night of, but they made up for this in the end. In all, it was one of the greatest nights of our lives and we were so happy that we chose to go with this venue.  Expect to put in a little extra work yourself, but this was completely fine with us, as it made the event more personal and intimate. I had my wedding reception here on September 15, 2012 and felt compelled to put in a good word about the place. The space is located in an easily accessible area of Queens that is also really nice (has a movie theater, Starbucks and various restaurants). I loved that it is a big open space that you can set up anyway you like. It comes equipped with a bar and fridges as well as furniture you can use such as tables, chairs, and actual couches and such. My husband and I chose to decorate very sparingly letting the space speak for itself but you are given free reign to design as much or as little as you like. The woman who is in charge (not sure I can use names here so I will leave it out) is great. Very straightforward and easy to get in touch with about anything. The price was great for the amount of time we used it for. If this same space was in Manhattan it would cost twice as much to use. On Saturday July 15th my husband and I had a party for our children at The Aurora Gallery! It was GREAT!! We were celebrating high school and middle school graduations!! It was exactly what we were looking for. A lofty space with brick walls, gallery art hanging on the walls and two lounge areas (where we placed some games for people to enjoy) made for a very UNIQUE venue!! All of our guests commented how cool and different it was! We had over 80 people, adults and teenagers. The room fit everyone comfortably. There was a DJ booth and plenty of room on the dance floor. Naeema and John, the event managers, were very friendly and accommodating! We did not need or ask for much. We catered food in and got our own DJ. The Aurora Gallery managed the bar and it was great! When Naeema asked, "What is your "theme", I said, "No theme I love the room just the way it is!" Except for hanging my kid's graduation gowns on the wall and hanging a bunch of personal pictures in open frames for people to view as the walked in .... that was it! The room really is beautiful and different! Also, the Aurora offered a photo booth area (well worth the money)! It was a huge hit with everyone! :) If your looking for a place other than your typical catering hall room ... The Aurora Gallery is it! Highly recommend! read more
