Maison Cheryl in Clarendon was wonderful this evening for dinner ( we'd previously had an excellent brunch). The restaurant is spotlessly clean, wait staff are extremely friendly and competent. My husband loved the Crab Bisque and Orecchiette with bay scallops and shrimp. I found the crispy Honey Truffle chicken with baby broccoli and Yukon gold potatoes very tasty, light and tremendously satisfying. The dessert of mini Madeleines with fruit and Creme Chantilly was spectacular. We highly recommend this restaurant for brunch and dinner! Def 5 stars! read more

As a D.C. resident, it is often not worth the trek to Virginia to have a nice night out. Or for anything, really. Maison Cheryl is one of those expections to the rule. I had a lovely Friday night out in a charming and buzzing bar. I got quick and personal service from the manager, Jody and bartenders Natalie and Justin. The espresso martini is just what you'd expect from a craft cocktail that marries coffee with booze. I'll have to come back for my other favorite coffee booze combo: the Irish Coffee. But the entree could be enjoyed by Jose Andres himself. The Chilean sea bass was the best I've ever had. The flavor pallet of thai peanuts and green curry is masterfully paired with sweet resd bell pepper and cococut which accomanies a perfectly charred and tender filet of fish. Chef Bobby excells with this recipe and I'd recommend coming to Maison Cherly just to try it. The atmosphere and size is perfect to come alone, for a date, or with a group of friends. Parking is ample and only 20 minutes away from D.C. I will certainly be returning any time I feel like leaving D.C. in the future. Maison Cheryl has a cozy almost dinner crossed with simple French restaurant vibe. It's cute and has a fun neon sign at the back saying i don't want any pain but Champagne in my life. The food was between a 3.5 and a 4. It was good but not "wow I'll be thinking about that for days later!" We had and shared the Baked Brie, Crispy Cauliflower, Devilled Eggs Three Ways, Honeynut Squash Soup, and the Truffle Wagyu Burger. We also had cocktails. I don't remember what my spouse had but mine was a Hot Toddy and that was by far the best Hot Toddy I've ever had. The service was quite good and we had no problems there. Would recommend. read more

I got the Wagyu burger with truffle fries. I also ordered a non-alcoholic beverage with mint, lemon, and some ginger. Forgot the name but the flavor bursted in my mouth. Soo good. The server made the recommendation of the burger. I told him I had flown in from Albany, NY and hadn't eaten since breakfast at 7am. It was a toss up betwen the Wagyu Burger and the Honey Truffle Chicken. I guess you can't go wrong with either but my appetite dictated the order. Hats off to our waiter. I was not a fan of sitting a super small table and would have preferred a more comfortable setting. It's a small and snug dinning room so be prepared to keep your elbows in. Dinner - not the best place to go with small children due to the ambiance. I knew there was something suspicious when I could get a Saturday dinner reservation for 7 people that afternoon. There's a reason why they aren't very busy. The food was mostly a miss. The Brussels + Bacon and Baked Brie were good, otherwise everything else was very... ok. You leave not feeling satisfied, only full. What a horrible feeling, to be full but not happy. The Prime Steak Frites was overcooked and the Maison Wagyu Burger was undercooked. All food was so dull and mild. The only entree that had much taste was the Chilean Seabass, however it was not worth the price. The Prime Steak Frites were also tagged as MP (market price) and was way overpriced and not at all worth it for how terrible it was cooked. For a French/American restaurant, they served a subpar Thai curry-flavored seabass. It was very confusing. The Bucatini + Fried Burrata was also very lame. I would've forgiven the tasteless food if the service was excellent, but our waitress wasn't accommodating at all. If anything, she was grumpy. We ordered apps to share (which we communicated that we were sharing) and we had to ask for small plates. We put on the reservation that we were here for a birthday and handed them a cake with a cake topper that said "happy birthday", and she still asked us if we wanted them to bring out the cake whole or sliced. I'm used to restaurants understanding that usually the cake comes out whole with candles/sparkler and "Happy Birthday" is sung. The cake was handed to us and we sang "Happy Birthday". It would've been nice if the staff also sang it too. For a $30 cake fee, I would've liked that little extra to make the birthday special. Once the cake was cut and served, again, we had to ask for utensils. The service we received was equivalent to a fast food restaurant... absolutely lacking. At least at fast food restaurants, I expect no service. The restaurant itself was small and very minimalistic. Bathrooms were clean. The restaurant did not accommodate us as a party of 7. We were so cramped and close to another table, it was difficult to get in/out to go to the bathroom. This restaurant is roughly $50/person, which in my opinion is not at all worth it. Though the food was great, the unexpected cockroach that paid us a visit during dinner was not. Having a cockroach scurry up the wall behind us, and then fall onto the bench (and one of our jackets) made the evening memorable, but for ALL of the wrong reasons. When we hailed our server to point out the unwanted dinner guest, his expression indicated this might not be an abnormal occurrence for the restaurant. The lack of concern or apology from any of the restaurant staff was disappointing, especially for a restaurant of that caliber. I came here with my colleagues on a Friday evening and was pleasantly surprised. Upon entering the restaurant, everyone from the bartender to the hostess was so welcoming and attentive and were shown to the last outdoor table available immediately. I had arrived earlier than my colleagues who were running slightly late but the waiter came over a couple times to make sure I had what I needed. We ordered Brussel Sprout for our appetizer, which was so delicious and my main entree, the fried burata and pasta (they rotate the type of pasta based on what I see from past photos), and it was SO delicious! I had just returned from my trip from France and Italy and was craving pasta and this did not disappoint. They have a great selection of wine, though I ordered a rosé aperol spritz which was not too sweet or bitter. Overall, definitely worth a visit! read more

Disappointing on food, service, price point and ambiance. Wouldn't recommend and we won't be back. The waiter told the table next to us that they were a French bistro with American food... not sure how that works. Minimal French influence on the menu and didn't see any French influence in execution. Service was lazy despite being one of only 2 tables when arriving and one of 5 when leaving. The food itself is really under seasoned. The "spicy" crab and avocado was a particularly poor flop with no spice or salt at $23. The waiter (tall tight haircut) didn't clear our starters before our main came out and just stood there until we lifted the plates, popped the mains down, snatched the starter plates away and slunk off. He was more interested in sitting at the bar and doing some sort of paper work. No water refill- slow to bring a menu back so we could order a second drink. I left half my main course- wasn't asked if I liked it or if I would like a box etc. just bad service from apathetic people. No flow to the meal at all.The total price was eye watering for what we experienced. There are way better options in the area. read more

This place is tucked next to a popular Mexican restaurant in Clarendon and has a nice vibe inside. It's small, but not cramped. We were seated in the very back, which while nice, happened to be right by a piece of art on the wall lit up with the brightest lights in the whole restaurant. It felt like we had a spotlight on us. We ordered one cocktail, a coke, and two appetizers. The bill was more than my entire dinner bill for two at my last visit to Gyu Shige in the Mosaic District! We tried the truffle butter fries and the shrimp tempura. While both were nice, the fries were $11 and the shrimp were $19. The fries weren't worth $11 (are any fries worth that price?) and the shrimp weren't worth the equivalent price of a dinner at most places. I felt like this is one of those trendy new places where you pay more to say you ate in Clarendon. Our server was nice and made the overall experience better, however, I think the value isn't there for what you are getting. read more

Disappointed by food and service last night. Menu described venison with MOREL MUSHROOMS, a seasonal delicacy - and usually pricey. It also came with asparagus and gnocchi. The mushrooms were NOT morels - and waitress knew it but did not disclose when I ordered. When brought to her attention she said they were brown button mushrooms or something to that effect. She could not understand why I would complain. I accepted the dish which I should not have. Venison okay - asparagus was SHAVINGS of less than one asparagus stalk. I counted 4 miniscule gnocchi. Food was cold, poorly seasoned, and came out haphazardly. Waitresses tried to bring us food and drink for other tables multiple times. My pesto bucatini was cold including the fried blob of cheese making it rather unappealing. I suspect the owner or someone talked to us at the end and she was nice, but there are a lot of problems here. They need better management and better kitchen quality control. The rest of my party was very disappointed with their food as well. Salad was sad and uninspired. No oomph in the dressing. It didn't taste of much. Not sure how someone could recommend this place. Such a vibe. They is a very relaxing and pleasant bar with great food! The prices are pretty normal for the area and the drinks were fantastic. We got a pair of French 75's, truffle fries and the Brussels sprouts with bacon to start off the evening. Then we ordered their crunchy shrimp dish and their ratatouille with bacon. Both very good, and perfectly portioned, although I think the ratatouille could easily be shareable. My wife and I went here with some friends for dinner last night and had a great experience. It's a little hard to see from outside until you're in front of it - they're working on getting a sign out front but the Arlington permit process is very slowly. That said, once inside we were welcomed warmly and seated immediately (we'd made a reservation). The inside has a clean, classic bistro look. The music was not too loud which I appreciate as an elder millennial; this is a place to converse and enjoy the company of others. We ordered appetizers, drinks, entrees, and dessert. The food and drinks were all fantastic. They have a great cocktail menu and I would definitely recommend ordering one of their house cocktails. I also highly recommend the shrimp tempura and the crispy cauliflower appetizers. I ordered the Maison burger with bacon and it was a perfect medium as ordered, and really felt like an elevated burger with the wagyu beef and melted brie - would recommend! My friend got the steak and it was cooked a perfect medium rare as well and he was very happy with it. The croissant donut for dessert was delicious. Everyone at the table enjoyed everything that came out. Service was friendly and the restaurant was clean and comfortable (including the bathrooms!). They are still new and just doing dinner for now, but are apparently planning to expand to brunch which I definitely intend to check out. I'll also be back to try other things on the menu. read more

My husband got an old fashion and It was probably the best old fashion either of us had ever had. Our tempura shrimp appetizer was incredible as well as our entrees. I was so excited to try out this restaurant since my boyfriend and I used to frequent Heritage Brewing Co and needed a new local date night place! Unfortunately it ended up being extremely sub-par. I had a reservation for 8pm, stood at the front until around 8:15pm when someone came and seated me. Shortly after being seated, we ordered two glasses of wine, an appetizer, and our main courses. I was appalled when at 8:53 our appetizer came out and we still had no wine. The waitress apologized multiple times for the slow service but seriously!? Almost 45 minutes for a glass of wine!? The main courses came out about 30 minutes later, we tried to order another glass of wine but after 15 minutes of waiting for our second glasses told the waitress we didn't need them. The service itself was one star (although it wasn't the waitress' fault, she was clearly overwhelmed). The ambiance was also not great. It was cold and bright white lights were throughout the restaurant. It was not the romantic feel I was hoping for. It felt very cafe-ish, which was weird because the guests/diners all had nice clothes on and clearly expected a little bit of a nicer ambiance. The only redeeming thing was the food, which was good, but not worth the ~$100 we paid for it. If the service and ambiance improved I would love to try it out again, but until then I can't justify going back. read more

Date night. Great time! Picked out a reservation for this place based on the ambiance. Huge fan of the white palettes against the lighting fixtures they had. Not a big place, felt cozy, laid-back but still sleek. Onto the food itself, we got the cheese board as an app, with the Honey Lavender Duck Breast and Maison Wagyu Burger as our entrees. My partner and I were unfamiliar with duck so we rolled with that and were very happy with the result, partner can't stop thinking about it after dinner. As for the burger, I asked if I could remove the bun because I wanted to keep it low-carb and our server accommodated that by subbing the bun/fries with soy-glazed Brussels Sprouts which combined with the burger was definitely tasty. Service was attentive and catered to our needs in a timely manner. Overall couldn't be happier about our visit here, would try for another chill outing here again with friends next time. read more

Here's a story: If The food had been spiced and properly seasoned, we would've given this five stars. It is unfortunate, because the ambience of the restaurant, the service, and the location were all great. However, my husband ordered a steak frites which was a beautiful cut of beef but completely unseasoned. Also, the green peppercorn sauce had no peppercorns! I ordered the Seabass in a curry sauce. Anybody knows Seabass knows it does not need a heavy sauce. So while the sauce was delicious, it completely overcame the fish. We'd love to give this place another shot. Went here for dinner with two girlfriends on a Friday night. The bar looks like a nice spot to have a drink and I think this would be a great date spot. I had the burrata pasta which was a very large portion and really good. My friends had the duck and a salad with chicken. FYI the chicken was bone-in. The duck was good too but a little sweet. Interior is elegant/super clean (nice touch with a fresh rose at each table) and service is perfectly friendly and efficient (was actually amazed how well the host/server handled so many tables). Ben always has a great cocktail recommendation to pair with the food, although at this point , he knows what to make me without being asked. Maison more like Lameson. Just kidding it's actually really good. So the number one thing is this place is very pricy. For 1 app two entrees two drinks and dessert it was around 150$. The food was delicious though it's a very safe bet. I had the scallop pasta thing that was awesome and was a solid portion. Appetizer was not a solid portion but again it tasted great. Drinks however were not very good but that might be more of a me thing hating all bitter liquor and DC in its entirety only having dark liquors for some reason. Service was also really good, I only saw two people in the whole restaurant but they were very on top of everything. I'm going to give it a 4.3/5. If your parents are coming into town and want to take you somewhere nice, this is a good safe place to take them that's fancy enough. However, there's better places for cheaper and there's better places for that price. read more
