South Shore Nails, a beloved staple nail salon in Alameda, continues to be a go-to destination for…read morenail enthusiasts. It's been a decade since my last visit, but their exceptional customer service remains as impressive as ever. I recently visited on a Friday evening, hoping to schedule an appointment for the following day. To my delight, they offered me the option to get my full set of gel nails immediately. Lani, the talented nail technician, took her time and ensured that my manicure turned out beautifully. Despite the rush, she maintained her patience and attention to detail, resulting in a flawless finish.

Lily, GIRLLL.....you KILLED it!…read more Okay, I was a bit hesitant at first because I have been EVERYWHERE trying to find someone who can nail (pun intended) my Pinterest board and let me tell you, no one has been able to do it like Lily. I literally sat there watching her amazed by her talent and how she was able to get my design so spot on. Like, FINALLYYYY. Now for the salon itself- I came in at 2pm on a Friday and it wasn't too busy, but it definitely started picking up around 2:30ish. I did notice Lily had another appointment who walked in and was booked for 2:40pm when we were still probably another 30 minutes out from being done, so it looks like they overlap her appointments a bit. I think they need to be careful with that because personally, if I have an appointment, I expect to be seen at my appointment time or wait no more than 5- 10 minutes. We all have places to be, right?? Especially when you're booking with someone because you specifically want THAT person. Nails at Southshore is definitely on the smaller side. There aren't a ton of pedicure chairs, I'd say six total and there's not really a waiting area besides literally two folding chairs lol, so that's one thing I think they could improve. BUT, they do seem pretty efficient at getting people in and out. Also, this next part is absolutely NOT their fault but South Shore management really said, "You know what would be perfect right outside a nail salon? A children's playground." So either come with AirPods or be prepared to hear kids screaming while you're getting your nails done because Lily's station is literally right at the front door. I was fighting for my life LOL. Anywaysssss, back to Lily- She's super sweet, VERY talented, took her time and care with my design and absolutely nailed what I wanted. Basically, she's my new nail girl now. I'm locked in. (Photo is 4 weeks out as I failed to take a photo after getting them done. Still looks amazing!)

I walked in while she was finishing up a pedi on a customer. Her salon is very quaint, clean, comfortable, and almost spotless! She's very sweet and kind, and easy to have conversations with. I asked for French manicure and she told me the color looked good alone and I agreed. However, I stuck with my decision with getting French to look clean for a potential interview in the following week. She said she can try French on a finger and let me decide if I want to continue. I asked for thicker line but she told me it wouldn't look good thicker, and that most people do thin. I have to admit that I most likely won't return for French nails, but a gel manicure is fine. Be advised she doesn't use alcohol and a brush tool to give you the perfect clean white top...& just wings it using the nail polish brush (hence the results). FYI Gel French mani is +$5 which wasn't mentioned until it was time to pay and I asked for the breakdown. I did appreciate her attention to my bottom foot callus when she was lotioning my foot. I told her I used to run a lot and that sucker formed. She took her tool and started clipping it off. Thank you, Linda! **update on my nails 13days later... I'm shocked at how the polish has been peeling and lifting. Normally my gel polishes last me over a month and doesn't get caught to my hair. Pretty bummed this is the quality and work within a short timeframe because I did enjoy the 1-1 time here.

Updated Review:…read more Beware of faulty use of product/MMA! My nails remained on for over a month, in that time span TWO of them fully broke my nail beds. Upon coming in for removal (soak off), techs buffed my nails, and soaked repeatedly. It took soaking and buffing 3 times. I spoke up, noticing the stubbornness of the product further adding to my suspicion of MMA use. I said "I have never seem acrylic behave this way", pulled my hands away, and removed the last foil for a closer look. Despite being soaked and filed 3 times, the "acrylic" had a glue, gummy like texture. So sticky in-fact it stuck to my hands when i touched it to show the tech the clear indicator of them not using normal products. The owner (male tech) had an absolutely disgusting attitude. He said "I know you, you left me bad review. You hate me, you hate my buisness. You came back to make me mad". At this point, we get into a slight altercation as I (also a small buisness owner) was shocked at his unprofessionalism and adult tantrum he was throwing. His attitude worsened when I requested to see the bottle of monomer they used. Any ETHICAL, licensed salon would comply with no issue. Instead the owners aggression worsens, he even tells me I could get out of his salon and leave. The salon and all techs refused to show me what they use. That is a concerning reaction to me, a customer, asking to see products that will be used for a service i am paying for. I even came with a girlfriend as we have an upcoming trip. I was sincerely hoping to be wrong about their product use and have a good spa day with my friend. She also caught side strays of disrespect from the owner (yelling at her) despite it being her first time in. I was so embarrassed bringing my friend into this situation and having her sit through disrespect. Due to the owners hostility, I wanted to leave ASAP. I asked the tech to stop the soak off, and stop filing my nails as they were left BRITTLE and breaking. In despite of all of this, he still charged me $10. I paid, $10 is nothing, i guess he must really need it. The owner's attitude was concerning, he would yell at me then retract and act calm and collected. He was too focused on the fact that I had left him a previous review instead of rectifying the situation. (The way any ethical buisness owner would) After the altercation calmed and he finished with his client (yes, there were clients in store when he was denying my request of products etc) He kept trying to make casual conversation with me and educate me on "their technique" since " I am not professional" (I am NOT professional... Im studying law not nails or cosmetology..) It was such a bizarre interaction to have someone so emotionally unstable come at me that way. The technicians performing my friends service were visibly uncomfortable by their bosses behavior and denial of request. One technician looked visibly shocked and removed herself from the situation. If he feels comfortable speaking to customers the way he did, I can even imagine how he speaks to employees when issues arise. After the horrible experience, my friend and I went down the road to Glossy Nail Lounge (brand new! grand opening 6/26) and got pedicures/manicures with proper service and products Sorry Boy, you must treat ALL customers with respect, something I learned in my field of work, you never know when an inspector or board member can walk into your establishment.

Nobody rushed me with "hello what do you want" or shoved a color wall in my face before I even sat down. I actually felt like a person, not just another number to get in and out. It wasn't until I was sitting there that I realized how used to bad treatment I'd gotten. Other salons trained me without me even noticing, packed into a tiny space, treated like I'm on a conveyor belt, rushed out before my nails even had time to properly dry. I had honestly forgotten my time and my experience mattered. Delane's brought that back for me. The professionalism was on another level too. No games with the price going up if you don't tip in cash, which is honestly tacky and rude and tells you exactly how little they think of their customers. Nobody crowding me in next to three other people either. It was calm, it was peaceful, it actually felt relaxing instead of stressful. And the cleanliness. Towels were fresh, equipment looked properly cleaned, none of that murky blue water sitting in a dirty container that's clearly been there for who knows how long. Even the bathroom was clean, and that alone tells you a lot about how a place is really run. Once you go to Delane's and get treated with that kind of value and respect, you won't want to go back to anywhere else. And honestly, you shouldn't have to. Ask for Brandi.
