Updated Review:…read more Beware of faulty use of product/MMA! My nails remained on for over a month, in that time span TWO of them fully broke my nail beds. Upon coming in for removal (soak off), techs buffed my nails, and soaked repeatedly. It took soaking and buffing 3 times. I spoke up, noticing the stubbornness of the product further adding to my suspicion of MMA use. I said "I have never seem acrylic behave this way", pulled my hands away, and removed the last foil for a closer look. Despite being soaked and filed 3 times, the "acrylic" had a glue, gummy like texture. So sticky in-fact it stuck to my hands when i touched it to show the tech the clear indicator of them not using normal products. The owner (male tech) had an absolutely disgusting attitude. He said "I know you, you left me bad review. You hate me, you hate my buisness. You came back to make me mad". At this point, we get into a slight altercation as I (also a small buisness owner) was shocked at his unprofessionalism and adult tantrum he was throwing. His attitude worsened when I requested to see the bottle of monomer they used. Any ETHICAL, licensed salon would comply with no issue. Instead the owners aggression worsens, he even tells me I could get out of his salon and leave. The salon and all techs refused to show me what they use. That is a concerning reaction to me, a customer, asking to see products that will be used for a service i am paying for. I even came with a girlfriend as we have an upcoming trip. I was sincerely hoping to be wrong about their product use and have a good spa day with my friend. She also caught side strays of disrespect from the owner (yelling at her) despite it being her first time in. I was so embarrassed bringing my friend into this situation and having her sit through disrespect. Due to the owners hostility, I wanted to leave ASAP. I asked the tech to stop the soak off, and stop filing my nails as they were left BRITTLE and breaking. In despite of all of this, he still charged me $10. I paid, $10 is nothing, i guess he must really need it. The owner's attitude was concerning, he would yell at me then retract and act calm and collected. He was too focused on the fact that I had left him a previous review instead of rectifying the situation. (The way any ethical buisness owner would) After the altercation calmed and he finished with his client (yes, there were clients in store when he was denying my request of products etc) He kept trying to make casual conversation with me and educate me on "their technique" since " I am not professional" (I am NOT professional... Im studying law not nails or cosmetology..) It was such a bizarre interaction to have someone so emotionally unstable come at me that way. The technicians performing my friends service were visibly uncomfortable by their bosses behavior and denial of request. One technician looked visibly shocked and removed herself from the situation. If he feels comfortable speaking to customers the way he did, I can even imagine how he speaks to employees when issues arise. After the horrible experience, my friend and I went down the road to Glossy Nail Lounge (brand new! grand opening 6/26) and got pedicures/manicures with proper service and products Sorry Boy, you must treat ALL customers with respect, something I learned in my field of work, you never know when an inspector or board member can walk into your establishment.

I came here for lash extensions and ended up in the ER and urgent care (twice)…read more I've had lashes before without any problems. But came here for a more natural look after being referred by a friend. I told the tech from the beginning of the service that my eye was burning. She continued anyway. This continued on throughout the duration of my service, with the tech leaving without explanation during the process. That night, the pain and redness started to get worse. The next morning I went to urgent care who then sent me to the ER. After multiple tests, I was informed that my eye was cut and that I had chemical burn in both eyes. As if that weren't bad enough, I woke up the next morning with both eyes nearly swollen shut. Apparently the lash glue they use is extremely strong and caused an allergic reaction. I suffered temporary blindness and had discharge from both eyes. I texted with the salon about this multiple times. I also returned and the manager stood there without even acknowledging me. When I asked to speak to him directly, he told me that "it is what it is" even though I brought my medical documentation with me. I had to ask for a refund which took several days. And I have since been given the run around about the claims process to help get my medical bills covered. I understand that things happen, but it's how this was handled that left a very bad taste in my mouth. I do not recommend this business and will obviously not be returning.

Peter was exactly what I was looking for!…read more So I posted on Nextdoor that I was looking for a good place for a haircut in the San Leandro area that would be good with Asian hair and do a fade in a particular way that I wanted. It was suggested to go to Peter at Modern Nails & Hair! So Peter and his wife as soon as I approached the door was just so eager to offer service. As I was welcomed in and came to sit down, I was offered water (I've never gone to a place for a haircut that offered water)! That was a nice touch. Peter took care to ask me exactly what I wanted and did his best to comprehend the particularities I was seeking for my hair & fade. Then he went to work... The most remarkable aspect about him and his service was that EVERY SINGLE STROKE was meticulously deliberate with so much concentration and consideration!! If you're thinking of having a quick cut, think again. But I absolutely love & appreciate that and prefer it; I feel that how long a person takes on my very simple straightforward haircut is how highly I end up regarding them. And let's just say that with such deliberate, considerate strokes, it ended up regarding him very high after all that was done...! One interesting thing that they do here is he uses disposable barber capes to drape over you. So if that's a priority or an impressive consideration for you, you can look forward to that and all it entails. Also, it seems they utilize the practice of locking the door during business hours; I imagine it's for when they need to quickly go in the back or something more security conscious. If Peter wasn't in the room at first, I might've thought the place was closed (saying this so you don't make that wrong assumption). The place was nice, spacious, neat, clean, and well-lit. There were the standard tables to get nails done and seats to get hair dried. I didn't take much notice as I was only there for a straightforward haircut. The parking is not so great. There is no parking in front of the establishment. The closest thing to parking being directly in front of this place is across the street; but good luck jaywalking across the very busy downtown E. 14th street traffic. You can either do what I did -- gotta walk from the lot and through the small plaza (Los Pericos is part of it; NOT the Pelton one) or the nearby lot of Leisure Cafe or Asia Delight/Sons of Liberty. One thing I have to keep in mind next time I go to him is to be sure to bring cash; as that's what he insists/prefers as payment for my haircut. But I'm not going to fret too much because he -- for as "highly" I end up regarding him after all he did on such a simple man's haircut -- does it all just to charge so affordably for it! He's cheaper than most of the places around the East Bay and I wouldn't be surprised if he's going as low as the lowest around! Just for comparison, my last 3 places for years were Wink's Hair Studio in Castro Valley (got too busy for a simple men's haircut), Kevin's Cut in San Leandro (he was perfect but only takes cash and was $18 before the pandemic but is now $25), and Daniel's Hair Salon in San Lorenzo (couldn't quite get the fade corners). In the end, I am one of those men who is a loyal customer and sticks to going to the same person/place for years and years to the next generation, and I'll be going to Peter until he retires or my genes cause me no more hair to cut!

I walked in while she was finishing up a pedi on a customer. Her salon is very quaint, clean, comfortable, and almost spotless! She's very sweet and kind, and easy to have conversations with. I asked for French manicure and she told me the color looked good alone and I agreed. However, I stuck with my decision with getting French to look clean for a potential interview in the following week. She said she can try French on a finger and let me decide if I want to continue. I asked for thicker line but she told me it wouldn't look good thicker, and that most people do thin. I have to admit that I most likely won't return for French nails, but a gel manicure is fine. Be advised she doesn't use alcohol and a brush tool to give you the perfect clean white top...& just wings it using the nail polish brush (hence the results). FYI Gel French mani is +$5 which wasn't mentioned until it was time to pay and I asked for the breakdown. I did appreciate her attention to my bottom foot callus when she was lotioning my foot. I told her I used to run a lot and that sucker formed. She took her tool and started clipping it off. Thank you, Linda! **update on my nails 13days later... I'm shocked at how the polish has been peeling and lifting. Normally my gel polishes last me over a month and doesn't get caught to my hair. Pretty bummed this is the quality and work within a short timeframe because I did enjoy the 1-1 time here.
