For my first appointment, I booked for the next day and wasn't sure if it was going through, so now I just DM her directly to check in. Super easy once you know the flow. Sam herself is super sweet and easy to talk to. She recently went solo with her business, so it's just her now--and honestly, I love that. It's chill, one-on-one, and you can tell she really cares about quality. She has a gorgeous selection of colors and uses high-end products, which I think is why everything lasts so long. I left my manicure today with bleeding and angry cuticles*…read more I walked in with no hangnails or anything, truly perfect untouched nail beds and clean nails, and left with bloody and aching fingers. I don't get manicures regularly so I didn't realize the man doing my nails was butchering them until it was too late. Basically, he used the machine for gel removal/nail buffing to completely annihilate my nails and cuticles; instead of using cuticle softener or soaking my hands in warm water, he went straight in with the machine and essentially drilled everything off. The surface of all of my nails is now ruined, and I have cut up cuticles that are bleeding and aching. I went home and put Neosporin and band-aids on all of my fingers. I can't stress enough that none of these fingers had hangnails or anything that would warrant roughness/leave them this red and bloody. Multiple staff members saw the blood and did not offer any kind of discount - they did put some rubbing alcohol on two of the fingers, but it didn't feel like enough to mitigate infection risk.

Ree took her time to actually soak my fake nails off and when that was all gone, she took care of my real nails and cuticles. I only get manicures before special occasions but they'll all be with Ree from this point on. This is a family run business. Ree shared they've been there for 30+ years. I believe Anna is her mom? Anna was there too. All the other clients there were regulars. I can see why! Only small downside is they don't have a parking lot and Castro Valley Blvd can be busy but not impossible to find a spot close by. They accept cards with a 2% service charge but do have Zelle to avoid fees or good ol cash.

After some searching, I found Carrie through IG and the rest is history. She's a master at her craft and truly creates a unique experience for you. She'll assess your nails, their health and strength, and provide recommendations on what's best for you. On top of that, her studio is IMPECCABLY clean and organized. Every tool is sanitized and wrapped and she provides hand sanitizer. But most of all, her work truly lives up to her name. She takes her time with each client -always on time and never rushing to get the job done. Whether I was doing art or just a solid color, I truly felt like I was a priority. For those of you who aren't familiar with Japanese hard gel, keep in mind that this is a bit different than your standard "gel". It's SO much healthier for your nails and lasts so much longer. However, appointments take a bit. At minimum, expect to be here for 90-120 minutes. I know - this seems long - but it's SO worth it for the girlies who want long lasting, strengthening gel. Don't bother with standard gel manicures you get at most salons! They'll strip your nails and leave them brittle. I've been going to Carrie for two years and my nails have never been stronger.
