My review echoes that of the other reviews for this company. Strike One: They wanted to charge just under $50 for them to come and do an estimate. How is this acceptable? We've had other services visit our home for much higher costing jobs, and they have never charged us for an in-person estimate. The lady on the phone suddenly found a coupon, while we were on the phone and after I complain, which just about covered the estimation cost. Strike Two: We had an appointment window between 3 and 5 PM. We received a message just before 3 PM saying that our electrician would not be able to make the appointment and for us to call back and reschedule. No, we will not reschedule. If charging for an estimate isn't enough, poor planning and missing an appointment for potential business is. My wife and I are not sitting around home all day with all the free time in the world, so we are not going to give the company a second chance when there are other competitors. It appears as though others have experienced these issues based on the reviews I am seeing. I have, at times, heard negative things about these guys, and I am glad that we decided to go elsewhere. My normal plumber was unavailable & recommended Mainstream. I wish I would have read reviews first because my negative experience is exactly the same others have had. I was given options of "1) fixing the problem for $300 2) replacing the toilet for $700 or 3) replacing the toilet with an oval toilet for $800." Admittedly, I was rushed & wasn't able to clarify the options (I'm the homeowner so wasn't onsite meeting with the technician). After work was complete, the invoice states "replaced rusted bolt connecting tank to toilet & gasket." We're talking about $10 in parts & 40 minutes it took him to do the work!! Must be nice to charge $600/hr for your labor! I called to get a better explanation & was told this was all done for my benefit because their guaranteed quote means I don't get charged extra if it takes longer than they thought. Clearly this just means they make all their money with extremely high estimates. This should have cost $100 max. I know it. They know it. Everyone knows it. Yet they refuse to fix this. read more

Their prices are 3 times more than what a normal electrician charges. Their business model is to charge for estimates and prey on desperate people. They quote the customer a huge inflated estimate and say they can start immediately in hopes the customer is desperate enough to pay 3 times the normal amount to get the work done. The hook is they charge for estimates up front, if customer rejects the quote they still make $79 for 5 minute estimate. read more

Made an appt yesterday for this morning between 8 and 10. No one showed but I got a call stating they were to busy to come out until after the holidays. Then she said they would have come out but some guys didn't finish their job last night and had to finish. Two different stories, no show appointment and a my contractor and his guys waiting around. Tell me last night you were to busy so I could call someone else. Bad business. read more

They must have a huge overhead to deal with. I needed a repair on my water heater. They charged me $75+ just to do the estimate. The cost to repair plus fix a water input pipe began at $1,600+ then if I needed a new water conditioner installed that would be another $3,000. They supplied me with 6 quotes that ran from there up to $12,000+. They did not tell me my heater was still under warranty. After recovering from sticker shock I got the entire job with a new water conditioner and repaired water heater for well under $1,500. If I would have gone with their original price it could have been fixed in a day or to. When I called to discuss pricing my voice mail wasn't replied to for over 24 hours. These folks should be looked into by BBB or anyone else in that field who can protect consumers from predatory pricing. read more

For whatever reason my review on Google isn't public so figured I'd try yelp. I had a "free" camera inspection done by Mainstream Electric on my main sewer line. After this service I was informed my only option to fix the problems found in my sewer line mainly roots would be to reconstruct the entire sewer line. I have never had any issues with my sewer lines, drains or toilets prior to this "free" inspection. Two days after the inspection my basement flooded and my toilets and showers stopped draining. I called Mainstream and they dispatched the following day a technician out to evaluate the situation whom had very little knowledge on plumbing. I was instructed to use as little water as possible and to not flush my toilets until they were able to come out and do sewer work a week later. I had an old water heater which I decided to get replaced with a new water heater from Mainstream as well. The men who installed my new water heater did a good job. However, this is where the company itself fails because its been 14 days and still no one has come out to inspect my new water heater. Mainstream is supposed to contact someone to come out and inspect their services which has not been done yet. Mainstreams employees tried to upsell me and told me certain parts of my house were not up to code and prioritized fixing these "properly" instead of prioritizing the job they were called out to perform. I've realized I've been scammed as Mainstream told me the only way to remove the roots in my sewer line would be by redoing my entire sewer line. I will add there was also a small area of my sewer line pipe missing which could of been repaired without having to reconstruct my entire sewer line. During day one of services performed they flushed my sewer line and literal feces were sticking to the ceiling of my downstairs bathroom. The drains in my sinks, toilets and showers in my upstairs and downstairs bathrooms exploded. The basement was not as bad, there was just sewer water all over the ground. The employees asked if I would "like to have them clean up their mess" which I obviously replied "yes" they informed me they did not have any cleaning supplies so they would have to go into town a 20 minute drive to go get some cleaning supplies. As they were gone I started the cleaning process myself because I couldn't stand the smell or mess. After returning from getting supplies they asked me again if I would like help cleaning and I replied "no thank you I got it" after already cleaning up 90 percent of the mess by the time of their return. They did clean up the basement before leaving to the best of their abilities. Before leaving on day one I asked the project manager when I could expect them the next day which he responded 7am. Come the next day, Mainstream did not arrive to my house until around 10am after I called the company. They did their remaining services, assured me the job was done and left without even testing any of my toilets or drains to assure that they did the job right. One of my toilets now didn't work at all after they "finished" their work which they never double checked. Come to find out while reconstructing my new sewer line they also blocked off where my toilet connected to the sewer line. I called Mainstream, they dispatched someone out to snake my toilet which obviously didn't work which left me with a detached toilet overnight and sewer fumes leading into my house. The next day they sent the original guys back out who did the job wrong in the first place to saw my toilets pipe in the basement and reroute its plumbing to the main sewer line. They "accidently" blocked off the toilets plumbing when reconstructing the new sewer line. They also were unaware that my toilet was detached and I had to ask them to call someone out to get my toilet reattached. Also now my downstairs sink does not want to drain anymore. With all this extra work needed after not doing the job right, my wife have to call out of work as well. To sum it all up my "free" camera inspection ended up totaling to over $20,000 and a barely functioning sink. read more

Had a coupon so called for a routine cleaning. Was given the "lone maiden special" where they disabled the furnace and said it was dangerous and a new one was the only solution. They didn't even clean it (which they were paid to do). Called someone else who turned it back on and inspected it. NOTHING wrong with it. This was my second time to utilize Mainstream. This first time they came out the process was good and I am always getting the coupons in the mail, but I will not be utilizing their services ever again! I was told someone would come out today from 11am-3pm. I thought wow that is a late window, but I would take the day off. I received a call around 12 stating they were busy and would not be able to show up until 3pm-5. I thought well that is a little inconvenient, but I took the day off so I would deal with it. I explained I have a hole in my ceiling and a fan needs to be replaced and cold air was coming into the house. Second call at 3:30 stated they were busy and would not be able to get to the issue until January. Poor business letting someone sit around all day and then not providing a solution for a week!! **BEWARE THEY'RE THIEVES** ***VALUE YOUR MONEY AND CALL SOMEONE ELSE*** **LONG REVIEW** Our sewer line was backed up with rocks from an animal trying to burrow down by our outside clean out after the lid fell off and got rocks in it. Which clogged the line and was causing sewage to back up into our basement shower and toilet overflowing onto the floor down where my children sleep downstairs. So we called this "plumbing company" and they sent out a young plumber named Jaymin who scoped our line and said it was broke and rocks caved into it and we would have to replace our entire sewer line and take up the concrete floor in our basement for a tune of $24,000. Or we could use a jetter and have them use high pressure water to blast the rocks out at a cost of $1,800. So after discussing with my wife we chose to do the jetter to save money they scheduled us an appointment later that week and the 2 plumbers came out and stood most the time in our driveway talking then came upstairs hours later when I was at work to tell my wife they couldn't do nothing for us and took our $1,800 and left my wife, kids and myself to shower elsewhere and use the restroom at the gas station down the street for 2 weeks without any word from them after many attempts to call every time we tried calling them the receptionist lady said she spoke with David the manager and he would call us in a few days he never did so we called again and the lady answering the phone said the same thing repetitively and David never called us back. So we called GOLD SEAL plumbing and they came out the next day gave us and estimate and then the following day after that they had a team out here at 8am and fixed all the issues and gave us another outside clean out for less money then mainstream charged and robbed from us. Im not saying this place WILL rob your money I'm simply putting our experience out there in hopes to save other local hard working families from this same experience. Value your money and go with a good company that wont take advantage of your lack of knowledge in plumbing as their advantage to take your money and tuck tail when you call to work something out with them!!! read more

Plumbing/Electrical contrators. DON'T use Mainstream Plumbing/Electrical. I was totally taken advantage of when I experienced a flood in my Condo in downtown Spokane on Christmas Eve. I knew better but given the timing and situation I allowed and agreed to a repair that I though was greater than it was and given the fact it could have effected other people in my building during the holidays not to mention a very good tenant who was displaced. Long story short, Mainstream lead me to believe it was a bigger issue than it was and I thought they would repair that day. However they didn't even do the repair till the following Monday (normal business day, normal hours) because they said it was do to getting parts, not true after seeing what parts they needed. I had a second opinion and was told the parts couldn't have been more than $500, they spent less than a normal business day doing the repair and charged me over $5200 ! That is roughly over$ 562 an hour after parts. The repairman called me from my Condo after he had completed his repairs and said he had to collect payment at that moment. I told him I would and DID but needed an invoice. When I finally received an invoice it wasn't separated as to cost parts vs labor. I Repeatedly requested the amount of labor separate from parts and was totally ignored over weeks. I was told a supervisor would contact me which never happened. Finally I contacted the State Attorney Generals office and was told to send them a final demand for a detailed invoice which I did. Was told to file a complaint with the Consumer Protection Division if they didn't comply which they haven't still. So I am filing and anyone else who has experienced the same price gouging from Mainstream should also! I have recently become aware of many stories like mine with this company, I have never ever filed a complaint against a contractor but this is so egregious I can't just ignore it. I don't want anyone else to be exploited like I was. It was a holiday and they totally used that to their advantage, and remember they didn't make the repairs till 4 days later on a normal business day in normal hours, no after hours, no emergency service, just pure exploitation and price gouging which is why they refuse to disclose the hourly rate and total parts cost because they would be exposed for their exploitive practices.. SCAM ARTISTS!!! Firstly, they never showed up for their appt. No call. No nothing. We had to call them...don't know why I agreed to a 2nd appt. So they finally come the next day to clean and inspect our furnace and he tells my wife that the unit is way too old and it's rusted thru n thru and he doubts it will make it through the winter. (When I got home, I checked it thoroughly and there was a little surface rust but it was still very solid.) Next, he tells my wife to turn up the thermostat and come down to see the Carbon Monoxide readings. He puts the sensor at the flame and where the gas comes out and the meter shoots through the roof! He tells my wife that the furnace is not even safe and is dangerous! (I had a rep from Avista AND another independent furnace guy come in and they both said that you ONLY take CO readings by popping a tiny hole in the duct and letting the sensor sit for a few. They said our CO levels are perfectly safe. They also both said that taking a reading off the direct flame and gas line is a scam technique to get people to think they're getting poisoned and need to replace third unit immediately.) Lastly, mainstream gave me some written estimates for 3 furnaces and they were from almost $7k and up. Two other furnace companies said that they can do those exact same model units fully installed for about $2k - 3k less. Don't fall for these scam artists! They try to fool you with fear and panic into thinking you must replace your furnace this second of you'll die from CO gasses or freezing cold. read more

Our home is a cinderblock bungalow built in 1947 on a concrete slab with radiant heat. We got a new panel and a 220 outlet put in the mud room to bring the dryer in from the garage into the mud room with the washing machine. We also had a lighting fixture put in the dining room, two heaters installed in the back bedroom and another 3 outlets installed in the back bedroom and bathroom. Also had two other lights installed in the front bedrooms. We called, they told us the fee for their people to come out to give us a quote, we accepted the charge, and they came, on time. We showed them what we needed, they answered all our questions and gave us a bid that was flexible so we had the option of opting out of anything. We chose to let Mainstream do it all and we don't regret it at all! Could we have found someone to do it cheaper; probably. Yet this house is old and complicated by a slab base, a low roofline, ancient plumbing and electric, and inside walls made of cinderblock. These guys aren't learning on the job, and had the experience to deal with all these complicated issues. They not only came on time, but called ahead 20 minutes before they arrived everyday. It took four days to complete it all and they never failed to show on time and give a hundred percent. Also, all the warranties, permits, and billing were presented and completed. We never were blindsided by anything and always able to make an informed decision every step of the way without any sticker shock. We had a fixed bid which was adhered to. So any changes along the way didn't require another negotiation or bid. Cody, Austin, Marc, and Larry were an amazing, professional, hard working, ethical, and honest crew who were a joy to work with and they solved all our rehab problems in this old South Hill home. As far as cost goes it not "just" putting in this or that, it's knowing what to do with the unexpected behind the walls, and having the ability to problem solve effectively on the spot, knowing what the city inspector wants and will allow when problem solving so they don't have to come back "again" to redo anything. We're very glad to have worked with this company. They did a big job in a timely and professional manner with a super talented experienced crew. read more

BUYER BEWARE. This company caters to the ignorant and makes everything convenient at a price. They also use subtle pressure tactics while being very friendly and personable. My neighbor is an older, single woman that needed a hot water heater replaced. The quote was $3,000...for a standard, 50gal hot water heater installed. The reasoning was a "difficult install". The norm in contracting service is to have a standard install rate - not upcharge for "difficulty". I got involved and she was able to get a second quote from a local company that has been in business over 30 years. Final price? $1100 + tax.....that's right - less than half the price. Consumers - please do your homework and get at least 2-3 quotes. Do not believe all the reviews and take the first one to pop up on google unless you want to be stereotyped as an ignorant homeowner and get ripped off. read more

I couldn't be happier with the work of Mainstream Electric, Heating, Cooling and Plumbing! After my first conversation with Todd Damschen, the process moved along quickly. Electrician Bob Morse walked through my 98 yo house with me, listened to what I wanted to accomplish and noted areas of concern/ need. Within an hour Bob presented me with five financial packages, from "do it all" to "repair the biggest issues." The next day they began worn and for much of the next four days there were five electricians working at house. They rewired most of the home, put in an upgraded electrical panel and installed new outlets and fixtures. In addition to Bob, the crew included Mike Pool, Austin Colms, Cody Caudell and Austin G. They were hard working, knowledgeable, considerate, good communicators- and just pleasant to have around. Thank you! read more

We had a backup in our main sewer line. They offered what sounded like a good price to come out and fix it. The technician brought an almost toy auger to try to clean it out with nothing more than a chain on the end, nothing to cut out anything. Almost instantly he decided he couldn't fix it and called out another guy with a video. He didn't even run the video into the pipe before they gave me some "options" to fix it, starting about about $2500. I went to Lowes and got some drain cleaner and dumped it down the main access. Then I needed to wait overnight. By morning the clog wasn't cleared, so I called Bulldog rooter. Just before he got here, the clog cleared itself due to the drain cleaner. This tech had a camera and professional grade auger with him. He ran the camera all through our line, and all was clear. When I started to describe to him what had happened the day before with Mainstream, he interrupted me in mid sentence and said "It was Mainstream wasn't it"? I should have looked at the Yelp reviews before calling them. Be careful. Look at all the one star reviews, and call someone reliable, such as Bulldog rooter. read more

If I could rate a zero I would. I called Mainstream On late Friday or Saturday 7/23/17 or 7/24/17. Expressed a need for a very knowledgeable tech to come out and evaluate an air flow issue I am experiencing with new equipment. At the time of the call I explained that my work schedule presented itself as the following Tue-Sat. 6am -3pm. I was told that they could have a "knowledgeable tech" out on the following Monday (6/26/17) set for arrival around 12 noon and would be leaving no later than 3pm. I then stated that would be great however I did also have an appointment with a Doctors. at 3:45pm that day as well and I would really appreciate the arrival time frame to accommodate this. The rep stated and ensured me that she would make very detailed notes so this was not over looked. Monday 12 noon rolled around and a Dispatcher by the name of Chris called to confirm I was home, upon confirmation he stated that he had a tech that just got done with a job and would route them my way. 1.5 hours later no one was on location. I called Chris back and inquired as to where the tech was. He then stated he would look into it and return my call. Upon returning the call he stated that they were further out than what he originally understood them to be. And they would be on location soon. I then inquired as to when and how far out they were. When he informed me of their whereabouts it turned out that the technician was over 30 minutes away. At this point I opted to reschedule because knowing the depth of the project the tech would need some time to evaluate the issue and look over the information I had for him. Chris then stated he could have the tech out on Tuesday 6/27/17 after 330pm. I get home on Tuesday (6/27/17) to receive a call stating that they could not make it and they could set my on the schedule for 6/28/17 from 8am to 10am. (This means they do not pay attention to anyone's requests let alone read notes.) I highly suggest that you steer clear of this company by all means this experience in of itself leads me to believe, even though very polite and courteous they do not care. When I addressed this concern to the operator I was told that they address 1 customer at a time and then the next on the list takes precedence. If this were true I would have been kept in the loop voluntarily on their behalf. That did not happen. I would not have had to call on the original date set to inquire the whereabouts of the tech if this were true.. Or even if I had been politely notified they would had read the notes and let me know. Instead of waiting till the last minute to apprise me of said situation. I repeat this company seems to be very uncaring in time management. Which does put a bit of a "speed bump" in the road to begin with. I expect that they will come back with some corporate response to this review. Instead of trying to proactively correct the issue. We turned on our heat for the first time just over a week ago, and the furnace failed to switch on. So we called Mainstream, from which we had been receiving (many) solicitations for servicing heating and cooling systems. Their person came by one morning, looked at the furnace, and said that two relays had failed. He wasn't sure if after-market parts would be available for a furnace as old as ours. But his 'supervisor' would have to come by to check his work and give more specifics about the needed repairs and possible replacement furnaces. (The story should now start to be suspiciously familiar from other YELP reviews). The supervisor comes by some hours later and announces that there is also a cracked motor, and that the motor unit and relays would be about $1,500 for parts. That's what it would take to get the furnace working. But he had options for replacement that ranged from a low-end of just over $12,000 to a high of over $20,000. And the good news was he could have a crew come in in a few days because of a cancellation, that is, if I could commit right away. I decided to wait to get another opinion from a different company we've worked with in the past. That person came a day and a half later, replaced one small part - not the relays or motor - and had the unit up and running in 10 mins. I also ordered a new furnace from that company, which was roughly equivalent to the $12,000 system from Mainstream, for less than half the price. I assume their fictitious needed repairs, which supposedly might not be easily done, was just a way of putting me under pressure, leaving me to sit in a very cold house, to pay over twice the needed amount for a new furnace. And by the way, the A/C unit, which Mainstream said was on its last legs, was fine according to the other company. I don't know where Mainstream gets its business, but my recommendation is STAY AWAY! read more

We needed our new gas line grounded as well as a new masthead & electrical grounding for our home (circa 1975) & possibly a new big electrical box. We called to have someone come out for an estimate (their TV ads always say no job is too small) .. well, they were supposed to come out this past Monday, they called & said they couldn't make it due to a job site problem they were currently working on which is understandable. Rescheduled for today...they called & told us 'Honestly your job sounds just too small for us to deal with & it might be next week or the week after until we could get out there for an estimate'... Basically telling us to find someone else, they weren't interested in our money. Ok Mainstream!! Done & Done. Mr.Electric is more than happy to do our work & they are much more professional to deal with. read more

Giving rate of one as tech came same day as call made for service. We had a leak from our upstairs laundry into our basement furnace room and we had turned off the water. Cody spent an hour walking all around the home advising all the plumbing was done incorrectly and that our copper pipes in our 1977 home should all be replaced. He misdiagnosed the leak as a broken pipe and offered repair for $5100. The big push was to sign off immediately for the leak repair and all pipes replaced for $25000 or $27000. Keep in mind we are seniors and we have no water and this feels really scary and initially agreed to the $25000 crazy plumbing repair but called back a few hours later to cancel totally any service with Mainstream. I had a friend refer us to another plumbing company who came over after Mainstream left and analyzed the leak correctly. We had removed a baseboard that had been nailed into a copper water pipe. Home Depot contractor apparently nailed into the pipe by mistake years ago but no leak until baseboard removed. The plumber repaired the leak for $350. We are hoping no others are sucked into these scare tactics. read more

Called mainstream to have them check why our furnace was putting out enough air in vents. Was told they would be here in the morning as they would call before they arrived. Never showed up when they said they would be here. Finally showed up then the service called and said they would be within 30 minutes. They never checked furnace or tell us why the air was not coming out the vents the way it should be. But did talk us into vent cleaning and they found a part that warranty covered. Total charge over $2200 dollars and we never received any itemized list of charges enough though we contacted then numerous times. We complained that they never even addressed the problem that we called them for in the first place. Was told by service a week ago a tech would come out. Never seen them and their service department would make excuses for them. After a week a waiting they wanted to schedule for next week. Tired of waiting. Very poor way to run a business read more

We called weeks ahead to schedule service so we could have flexibility to schedule a date.That is where the problem started. Took over 10 calls in 4 days to finally get a hold of their "scheduler". Fast forward 3 weeks. Ironically, they called 2 hrs before the TIME and DAY we agreed on to say they only had us on "standby" with no guarantee for availability that whole week. Took time out of work schedule for that specific time (because you have to be there during the service) They also didn't care to make any effort with their mistake. read more

I called them to fix a toilet that keep running and for an estimate on replacing a under counter sink. They charged me over $300 to replace the flush valve for ten minutes work and checked the rest of the tank. It only cost about $100 when I had it done in Texas. Their estimate to replace the sink, labor only was close to $3,000. Got a handyman to do it for $150. The toilet later overflowed and caused a massive leak. read more

Rescheduled and was promised I am first appointment of the day. Then I got the call at the time they were supposed to be at my house that they had to cancel that time also. Buyer Beware! Low trip charge, high labor fees! First, they were a day late because they "only had one plumber" on the day I was scheduled. I called around to get an estimate for a kitchen faucet leak. I was quoted a $69 trip charge and was told I would receive an estimate prior to work being done. The plumber said he really didn't know what was wrong with the faucet but tightened a nut on the top of the faucet saying that's all he could do. He removed the faucet handle, turned off/on the water and tightened the nut. Took him less than 10 minutes. He then went to his vehicle and spent at least 20 minutes to do the paperwork, which included an invoice for the $69 trip charge plus $79 for the work performed (no estimate had been provided) for a total of $148 for less than 10 minutes work. He also came back with an estimate to replace the faucet ($350 labor + trip charge+ faucet cost) and a tune-up service contract for my HVAC unit (which we had never discussed). He was putting pressure on me to buy this contract even though my home is only 1 1/2 years old. I received a call from Susan at Mainstream the next day asking how the service was and I told her I was not happy. She told me a manager would call me back on January 25th . . never received a call. I understand I am paying for expertise when I hire a plumber, electrician, etc. but this is an outrageous charge and I didn't appreciate the pressure I received to purchase the HVAC coverage. I feel like this was a bait (low trip charge) and hook (outrageous labor charge) scenario. read more

Zero stars for this company, forced to do one star, had an appointment scheduled they called the day before rescheduled, made a new appt, then called a few days later to reschedule again. They had big jobs that were taking a long time, so didn't have room on their schedule for my job. We had Mainstream Electric come out to take a look at our AC unit, the tech maybe took about half of an hour and then told my husband the compressor was jammed and that he could not get it unjammed but that maybe his manager could. He stated from past experience sometimes they can get the compressor to become unjammed and sometimes not. He was gonna pass this on to his manager. He made it sound like the manager was gonna come out and take a look at it himself since he has so much more experience. About a half hour later the manager called and said that due to the age of the AC unit which is 20 plus years old we would not be able to get any parts. I doubt they called and I truly believe they had no intention of calling because a new unit would be 7000.00. So my husband got a hold of the guy who put our AC unit and our furnace in 20 plus years ago, who is retired but came over and took a look at it and he put a capacitor in that cost 44.00 with labor being 79.00, which is what I paid Mainstream to come out. So total of 123.00 to fix our AC unit and guess what, you can still get parts for this unit. I am so damn mad, fuming mad to be exact. Oh and guess what, the compressor was not jammed at all! Once I already had the appointment set in place I heard 2 people tell me to be careful, they are not a honest company, especially if they think they can get one over on you and when you think about it, being as old as it is, it is believable. But guess what it was a lie. They lied twice to me and my husband (my husband knew this did not sound right at all). The first lie was the compressor was jammed and they did not make parts for this unit anymore! So they quoted me 7000.00 and all it took to fix it was 15 minutes and a total of 123.00. I have both good and bad to voice. First, the gentleman that serviced my house was extremely friendly and professional and he did a really good job (thanks Larry). The staff that I spoke with when trying to schedule the appointment were extremely friendly and helpful. Now for the downside. I was originally quoted a $50 "come out" fee which I believe is reasonable as most plumbers charge at least $80 to step on premises. However, once Larry arrived, I told him what was needed, was extremely specific and he indicated to me that he "needed to go over my whole house plumbing system and give me bids on stuff." Um, what? I don't need you for that, I need you to install a basic, generic tub spout. He indicated to me that it was their policy that they have to give me bids on other items. I said I was going to be replacing kitchen faucet in near future so I guess he could write a bid on that. Um, OUCH! Mainstream is extremely deceptive in their pricing. When we finally agreed that all he was going to do was replace tub spout, he wrote me up a bid to the tune of over $200!!!!! For a basic tub spout? What? The bid he gave for the faucet and tub spout was over $550. I said, wait a minute, I don't see that that has the $50 "come out" charge and Larry indicated he waived that. Very deceptive pricing practices if you ask me. Over $200 for a tub spout install that took a mere approximate 15 minutes is ridiculous! Plus I was told they have most parts on the trucks but of course he had to go buy my part which was probably less than $10. I would not recommend Mainstream unless you are prepared for sticker shock. I would recommend them for the work that they do, but with the "sneakiness" of their cost estimates, I don't think I would use them again. I would rather use the guy who charges $80 to come out and then actually charges me a reasonable fee to do 15 minutes of work. read more

I purchased my furnace from them a few years ago. I called them to have the annual service and because it was not staying on to heat the house. It took 4 business days to get an appointment. They called on appointment day to reschedule for the next day. They called again on the next day to reschedule. At that point, I called another company who said that they value their customers too much too keep pushing their appointments off. I won't be using Mainstream ever again! read more

Purchased a new stove and needed a couple of things done. Scheduled an appointment with them for a week out and received a phone call a few days later saying that they've decided that they didn't want to honor the appointment and weren't interested in the job any longer. We were only going to have them rewire an outlet, taking it from 220 down to 110 and then change out a breaker, for the same reason. I believe they got a bigger job, which they could charge more money for and decided our little job wasn't worth their time. Would definitely not recommend wasting your time with them! read more

Mainstream Electric set up an appointment with me to look at my electrical needs and determine a quote. When they didn't show up, I called them. I was told they were not going to show up. Also they were never going to show up because I am out of their service area. Why did they set up the appointment? I wasted an afternoon waiting. Be aware they have positive testimonials on their website, but it is not possible to write a negative comment on their site. read more

At approx. 1:30 pm, I sent a message requesting an electrician to come out and fix a bad breaker switch at a clients house, and that I would be paying for the service. At approx. 1:40 my client was contacted by a Mainstream representative stating that they received the request and that an electrician would call him back when they were available. At 2:40 someone called my client inquiring about his furnace and debating whether he needed an electrician or an HVAC technician. My client told him specifically that there wasn't anything wrong with his furnace it just wouldn't come on because the breaker was shut off and wont turn back on. They said they would call my client back. No one bothered to call him back (lousy customer service if you ask me) so at 4:45 he called Mainstream back to ask if anyone was going to come out and fix the breaker. He was informed that yes, someone would come out but now it would be an "after hours" charge. At approx 6:45 an electrician arrived and in 5 mins had the breaker switch fixed, for $320.96. The electrician apparently had a conscience because he told my client that he didn't understand why this was an "after hours" call when we had been in the system since 1:30 that afternoon and it was such an easy task. The invoice stated that I called to report a "furnace not working". That is not what i said, I said that the furnace had been turned off at the breaker but that the breaker would not turn back on. So poor listening skills resulted in the debate over whose service call it was, HVAC or Electric. The only mention of the furnace was to make them aware of the sense of urgency required, in order for my clients not to freeze without heat. Had this not delayed the dispatching of an electrician there wouldn't be any need for "after hours" charges. Makes me wonder if stalling is the way they make more money off of people in emergency situations like this. So I wanted to speak to someone within the service dept. about the poor customer service we had received. When I called the first time I was told that they would relay my message to the manager. So I explained my situation and how I thought that their failure to listen to what services i was requesting and follow through in a timely manner could have prevented the after hours charges, and that even their own employee thought it was an unnecessary after hours call. So the call center lady put me on hold and came back with a message from the manager. Sorry we didn't call early enough and that was when they could send someone to do the repairs and the charge of $320.96 would not change. So I called a second time to request to speak to the manager and was told she was at lunch and would call when she returned. That call never came. The following workday I called back and was told that she was in a meeting and would call me back. She called back while I was at lunch , so I returned the call and was told that the manager had left a note for me that the charges would stand and if the client wanted to speak with her about it they could. I stated that I still wished to speak to the manager and haven't heard anything. ****My experience with Mainstream... lousy customer service, horrible dispatching, shady stall tactics to soak you for more money, and no consideration for their customers concerns. I will take my business elsewhere and wouldn't recommend Mainstream to anyone. read more
