In both cases of having work done, the electrician who did the work was very good. The first time we had major work done including replacing all the outlets in the house. The second time was because one of those outlets failed. They came out, assessed the situation and sent someone out to fix the outlet plus add LED lights in the bathroom. I agreed to that because LED is the more efficient way to go, however I do feel they try to maximize the work you have done to may the trip more worth their while. The work is done well, but is expensive. (Yes I understand you try to pay a living wage) I called last month and spoke to the receptionist, asking to have someone come and look at a dedicated outlet they put in 2 years ago that was not working and never got a call back for an appointment to look at the outlet. This was for an air conditioner during the recent heat wave. I called another company who came right out. Not only that, I've taken off work both days just for these scheduled appointments. I want to be fair, so I will start by saying my negative experience was a result of not following my own intuition. I'm writing this so others don't have the same experience and might have the presence of mind to just say no. I had seen Mainstream's adds on TV, and I try to patronize local businesses because they don't usually try to scam the locals. Here's my experience... When I called it was explained to me that they give no hassle quotes meaning they will quote a price and do the job for that price no matter what. Two technicians from Mainstream showed up quickly, which I appreciated. I explained I had a garbage disposal that didn't work, some of the pipes that hooked to the disposal were leaking, and the faucet was leaking and I wanted all that fixed, which was the same thing I explained over the phone. The two employees told me they had to inspect all the plumbing in the house as well as the water heater. This was my first red flag; my suspicion was that they were going to look for other problems and try to convince me they needed to be fixed, but I let them inspect the house anyway. They said all the shut off knobs in my three bathrooms and kitchen were old and should be replaced, even though they were working fine. They also told me there is no way to fix a leaking faucet other than to replace it, which was the second red flag. The employees went out to their van for about 10 minutes and returned with three quotes: something over $3000, about $2500, and $1600. I was a shocked at these prices, and of course this was the third red flag. One technician verbally explained what I would get for each of the three prices, but did not show me any detailed breakdowns. What I heard him say was that "option three" would fix the problems I originally described, which to me meant the leaking faucet, the disposal, and the connecting pipes. I thought $1600 was still way too much for this, but I don't have a lot of free time and wanted to get the job done. I asked for a breakdown of option three and was told that wasn't possible. This was probably the biggest red flag, and I should have just told them I wasn't going to use their services, but instead, I gave my signature electronically and off they went to get the parts. After they left I thought about calling them back and telling them I didn't want their services, but on the other hand, I really needed to get this done. The two came back and installed the a garbage disposal, which I searched for on the internet and found I could have purchased it for about $120 at Home Depot. They replaced the pipes as well, and all that took about 45 minutes. They got up and were ready to leave, and I asked, "What about the faucet?" I was told I had chosen option three, which didn't include the faucet. They gave me a $50 gift card for when they come back to install the faucet. Right! They'd probably quite me $2000, and $50 would really help! I just paid them and said goodbye, feeling like a real fool. There's no way they should have charged so much for what they did. In the meantime, I called another company because the faucet was still leaking. The plumber from the other company showed up and told me the leak could be addressed in other ways than replacing the faucet, but I chose to have it replaced anyway. His charge for labor plus the new faucet was about $375. While he was under the sink, he said, "Did you know your garbage disposal isn't installed correctly? It's not screwed in all the way, the pipes run up hill, which will cause a problem, and it isn't vented correctly. This wouldn't pass an inspection." Wow! I never even mentioned it had just been installed, and I didn't ever mention Mainstream. The new plumber asked me if I'd like him to fix the problems, and I said I would. He charged me an additional $150 for labor and parts. Including tax, I paid this person less than $600 to do twice as much as Mainstream did for $1600. After this I decided to call Mainstream to see if something could be done. They were very polite and professional and listened to my concerns. They called back the next day, as promised, and told me a manager had been consulted about the charges and they were reasonable, just for the pipes and disposal (incorrectly installed). They said they would address the lack of communication/transparency with the technicians as well. Again, I agreed, foolishly, to the high price without seeing a breakdown, and I paid the fee, so this is my fault. I'm astounded that a manager would think $1600 is reasonable for a disposal, a few plastic pipes, and 45 minutes of labor, and I'm disappointed in myself for not just telling them no thank you from the beginning. I wonder, if I lived in a more rundown neighborhood and didn't look like I could afford $1600-$3000, what the pricing options would have been? My hunch is that their quotes are for whatever they think they can get out of someone, not what's fair. read more

Contacted Mainstream at about 7:30 am (they're apparently open as early as 7 am) on 8/16/19 to make an appointment for two specific tasks by an electrician. "Lindsay," a perky, upbeat & thorough call screener, took a detailed request from me for an appointment between 5 & 6 pm to be scheduled the same day. (Fridays are my early days off, the only time I can get home by 5.) I explained that the appointment time on Friday was important because I was unwilling to pay any extra premium for a weekend or after-hours appointment. She said that wasn't a problem. She promised a dispatcher would call me back ASAP. FIVE HOURS-PLUS LATER, after no call, I called Mainstream back and was told, no dice, no appointment for the same day. As I called around to ALL other electricians listed on-line, it quickly became clear that Mainstream had waited so long to tell me there would be no same-day appointment, that no other electrician was available, period. I then decided to give them one more chance, calling back at 4:30 pm to make an appointment for the following Friday between 5 & 6 pm. After being put on hold twice, a surly woman came on the line & bluntly said any appointment at 5 pm or later would result in a $295 after-hours fee. (She didn't even bother to suggest a 4:45 pm appointment.) Furious, I emphasized that I would NEVER, EVER use Mainstream. EVER. And hung up. I would not choose mainstream electric at all, be warned..i had a rep come out for a full replacement of ac and furnace unit. was choosing their top of the line and was going to spend over $10,000 and had some extra questions and rep wouldnt call us back for 2 weeks and finally spoke with him and he is not willing to honor his own quote and wanted $1000 more even though i had a written quote..dont choose mainstream they are a rip off!!! read more

Mainstream Electric continues to be responsive and reliable as they were when we used them last year. I was surprised when I called on a Sunday afternoon and spoke to a live person who booked us an appointment right then! I had called for electric work but did not hesitate to book a second appointment when we found out they were now doing hvac and could be out in two days to add a gas line for a dryer we had purchased. We had been waiting for two weeks at that point for an Angie's List contractor who could not give us a date or time. Jacob D showed up and was not only very informative and competent but, simply put, a really nice person who cared about his work and the company he works for. The contacts at Mainstream who arranged the service call were very informative on scheduling and also pleasant. I highly recommend this company if you want electrical or hvac work done! read more

I'm giving 1 star, I would give a zero if possible. I have been trying to even talk to someone other than the front desk girls and nobody seems to want to return calls. Last week on the 20th I had taken a day off from work and had a morning appointment scheduled - nobody showed and I had to actually call 3 times to find out why. No offer of options, no "hold while I get our manager" just a "you'll have to reshedule" and a lot of attitude. Not happy at all about the lack of customer service and also having to burn another day off. Resheduled and have been trying to just get a verification that someone will come out as state on Monday, but again, nobody seems to want to call me back to even verify. Horrible customer service, and stop with the "How can I make you smile" nonsense, you can make me smile by a simple phone call. UPDATE: Just called and cancelled - Worst customer service ever and they don't seem to care one way or another. Just booked with a new company and had my Monday morning appointment verified as I waited. You just lost a good customer. read more

I am still in shock because I was charged $560 to install 1 ceiling fan in my bedroom. I bought the fan myself so that was for installation only. Once the installer entered my home I already had a bill for $50 just because he showed up. When I made the appointment and asked about charges I was given this vague response. I should have taken that as my clue. I wanted 2 fans installed but that would have cost me $1000 so I decided to just have 1 installed and be done with Mainstream. Never again!!!! read more

Very expensive! All we wanted done was install a ceiling fan, which we already had, and replace an old GFI outlet in the bathroom. I will admit that the electrician was very nice, informative, and on time, which gives them the extra star, however, he tried to sell me an entire breaker panel, new wiring throughout AND raise my power lines outside. He said that if someone stood on the railing of my deck, they could reach the wiring. Well, don't stand on the railing of my deck and reach for the wiring! That estimate came to over $9000. He did however offer a quote for just what we were asking for, that came to over $1800. I thought it was kind of high for what I thought was two fairly simple jobs that any handyman could do. I'd do it myself but I'm not a fan of electricity. So, I got another estimate. Advanced Electric did the job for $435 + tax and I wasn't charged for the initial estimate. To anyone out there, get estimates! And if they charge for their estimates, call someone else! read more

i hired too raise my power mast and put in a new 125 amp service panel....they did do that....it failed inspection twice...and 1 year and 1 1/2 months later(warranty on parts and workman ship only 1 year)...my tie down supports pulled out of my roof.....i was told that it would be a 49.00 dispatch fee and a charged service call...i just gave them 5000.00 american....the customer relations they have are pathetic....and obviously they workmanship is poor....they dont even stand behind it .....they didnt even secure the mounts too a joist....just the metal roof is all.pay again too have em fix it??.....hell no.....I WOULDNT HIRE MAINSTREAM TOO WIRE A DOG HOUSE OR AN OUT HOUSE.......get the idea....dogs---t ... read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. These guys reminded me of the clowns getting in and out of the small car at the circus. I originally asked them to fix the outlet for my dryer, and they somehow convinced me that it was a $4k project that required work that went way beyond that outlet and included the breaker box. The work took several weeks, the guys showed up late or not at all, they left dirty finger and hand prints all over my house, did not follow directions, left holes all over the inside and outside of my house and told me that I would need to get someone else to fix them because fixing the damage they had done to my home was not covered by their contract, trampled all over my newly-installed landscaping, and cut down bushes in my front yard without asking me. I asked for the work to pass a code inspection and they were very hesitant - why? I checked with other electricians and they said that they would not hesitate to confirm that their work was code compliant. At one point, as a peace offering for their incompetency, they offered to ground the outlets in my house that weren't grounded rather than charging me the ridiculous rate of $250 each. A week later, that offer became "up to 3 outlets." Huh?? I haven't heard anything from them for weeks, and today they called me demanding payment, and I asked if the job and the code inspection had been completed. They said they didn't know. Seriously?? Only give 2 stars as it appeared that work was competently completed otherwise a 1 star would be appropriate. I requested 5 outlet plugs and 2 light switches be replaced. When 2 technicians arrived, one visited with us while the other took almost any hour and a half reviewing our home. Why, that is not what I asked to have accomplished. After review he stated that he could replace all the switches and outlets for $5000. plus. The work accomplished for the 5 plugs and 2 switches was over $1000., wow how about that for an 1 1/2 hours work. They were at my home from 10am to 3pm, I guess that is how they justify the this unbelieveable amout of money. One of the technicians was very unprofessional with my family members and apparently was not aware of personal boundaries. I called the company and they said that they talked with him, gee whiz. What out for the sell job from these folks they will want to do more that you ask for. Watch out. read more

We needed to replace a 3 prong dryer outlet with a 4 prong, and change the dryer cord to match. The dryer is about 8 feet from the circuit box on the same wall. We just moved to this house after a month plus of hickups and problems. My Wife's nerves were frazzled, she wanted a working dryer. When the technician arrived he started to tell us why we needed to replace our main electrical cord coming into the house. I patiently listened to him and said fixing the dryer was our priority now. He went to his van and spent 30 minutes writing up 4 quotes. 3 were for replacing the houses main electric feed (I didn't ask for this), and the $1,083 quote for the dryer stuff. It seemed very high to me, but I am not knowledgeable about the cost of electrical parts. He took about 2 hours to do the job. He was professional and the work looked good and the dryer worked. Over the next couple of days I talked to friends and was told we were charged way to much. I researched retail prices online for the replacement dryer cord, 30 amp breaker, 4 prong outlet and 10 gauge 30 amp cord. I come up with about $80 for the parts. The permit was $65. And Mainstream charged $49 just to walk in the door. This comes to $194.00. That leaves $889.00 extra that was charged for ???? This should have been a $250 - 300 job not over $1,000.
