DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN YOUR TECH. **VERY SKETCHY** DO NOT GO TO HIS HOUSE EITHER. (PICS INCLUDED) TLDR: he took my solid state drive and won't give it back. ghosting my texts and calls since May 14th, 2024 in beginning of May 2024, i contacted (i believe his name is Charles, older fellow, i believe uses a cane) Main Street Computers to save my solid state drive that was recently damaged. Promised he was the best in the area on this service, even gloated it's his specialty. Told me to drive to his house in Sebastopol/Graton and drop the solid state off. Interaction was a little weird (social skills and ques wise) but he was confident and promised me he would be done within the week. I also gave him an external hard drive to use in case he needed more space for the recovery. Calls me two days later and says he's done. I got to his house, invited me in, and inside he handed me the invoice; however, as i was about to sign. i realized he didn't recover the files on my computer, but the 3 videos saved on the external hard drive and just slapped them into the computer... -_- I told him and he was not happy. i then realized - inside his kitchen and dining area - he had a set up of 3 cameras all around the space. one at the end of the dining area, one in the kitchen, one at the end of the living space (kind of down the hall). he exclaimed, "F*ck, Dammit", then promised me he'd do it right this time within the next couple days. the next day he calls me to return with my laptop as the solid state was encrypted. i arrived at 9:17 pm. i knocked on the door a couple times, heard some arguing upstairs so i waited on the porch. I then called him and then he said he'd come downstairs. i then hear some running, a couple second go by, and then i heard him coming down the stairs inside. He takes a brisk look at me, he looked a bit confused. out of it. he then takes 2 steps towards me and FALLS AGAINST THE WALL!!! I then thought he could've been drunk or on some something(?) I thought maybe i should go inside and pick him up, but i felt a weird energy and felt very skeptical, so i yelled through the door if he was okay. he just laid there. i then noticed the cameras outside on the porch too. this whole thing felt so on purpose. flight or flight came on so i ran back to my car. i looked behind me as i drove away and noticed a different man had ran outside, standing and watching me drive away, right where i stood. i drove to a lit gas station, gathered myself, and texted him if he was okay. he said "yes just hurt like hell." i couldn't shake off the thought that this was an attempted kidnapping or robbery. felt very much like a set up. to this day, he won't respond to any calls or texts. he also still has my solid state drive... thinking of getting the police involved. honestly i'm DEVASTED. I had very important files for my business and client's projects in that solid state. i was young when i started this business and did not know to back up files to an external. i then lost those clients, as well as all my personal files. an absolute NIGHTMARE read more

My normal tech guy took 2+ hours and couldn't resolve a printer issue. I spoke with Charles at Main Street Computers who remoted in to my computer and resolved the problem in 15 minutes. I'll definitely be using main Street Computers in the future! Charles, you rock! read more

I have to say that Main Street Computer is a place you can count on. The owner, Charles, is a dedicated, knowledgeable, and honest professional. At our company we have a number of computers in need of upgrades and Charles was just awesome in accommodating our need for zero downtime. No computers , no business. Charles volunteered to work on the weekend to get our first three upgrades, so we would have no downtime. His expertise is hard to match. I have a Technology Management MBA and understand a thing or two about computers and networks. Upon discussing our needs with Charles, he opened a Pandora box of knowledge that was a pleasure and an opportunity to learn a bit more. read more

I've been a customer of Main Street Computers for 12+ years and will continue to seek there help every time I need it. Charles is an honest person and very computer smart. He will get the job done, and if estimated cost of repairs is higher than the value of your computer, he will explain the options. Sometimes I think I can do it myself, and when it goes over my head he's there to answer my questions on what I need to do, or bring it in and he'll put all the pieces back together and doesn't take it personal. I am shocked at the negative reviews on here, we have had exactly the opposite experience. We had an easy and painless computer repair. Helpful, friendly, local shop! It could be a little more tidy but that's my only complaint *I had to open the "filtered reviews" to see that the other 3 reviews available are all extremely positive. I don't get the bad reviews, and they don't seem to explain themselves either. All I can say is I brought my desktop down for repair and was more than happy with the service and the price. The owner went over and above and I walked out thankful that I will never have to deal with Geek Squad again. In fact, knowing he's there to upgrade my components as I need them, I may never buy another computer again. read more

Because I am a virtual Luddite, multiple times over at least the past 5 years, I've turned to Charles and Main Street Computer to help me solve both software and hardware issues with various PC's. My single regret over all those visits is that I've neglected to leave him a 5 Star rating until now. Last week I received a new computer and was running into one problem after the other, simply trying to connect to my WiFi, transfer my files, my email etc. Charles told me to bring both computers in to his shop and he'd take care of it while I waited, as he has done for me in the past. I wasn't able to do that, so he offered to come to my home and do the work. He arrived on time, and as always, was able to take care of every issue....and all in about an hour! While I hovered, watching him work, he actually took the time to explain to me just what he was doing, and he did it in plain English. To make the experience even more positive, his rate beats any I'm aware of with tech home visits. Nothing to do with computers, but my daughter's cat, who is chronically anti-social, came out of hiding and for some inexplicable reason, bonded with Charles, sitting at his feet, following him from one room to the other, begging for his attention. He explained that he has two cats of his own, so he's a cat person. Just don't know how my daughter's cat could possibly know that...The cat doesn't even like ME! :-) read more
